Copying and pasting symbols
Hi there gang,
We just bumped up to CS5.5 and one of the most frustrating things is that when you copy a symbol from one fla and paste it into another and it needs to replace a symbol in the other file, it can take up to a minute (even more a few times for me) to do so. Flash just hangs there. And I'm not talking about big heavy symbols with a lot of content in them, it can be as simple as a clip with a few vector graphics in them.
Does anyone have any insights on how to make this faster? Is there a setting I've overlooked?

It is a reproducible bug in conjunction with raster elements and/or raster effects inside symbol definitions. Do this test:
- Draw two paths
- Select one of them: Object > Rasterize
- Select both and define them as a symbol
- Place a symbol instance
- Copy and Paste
Look at the duplicate in the Symbols Palette. Then:
- Draw two paths
- Select one of them: Effect > Stylize > Drop Shadow
- Select both and define them as a symbol
- Place a symbol instance
- Copy and Paste
Look at the duplicate in the Symbols Palette.
The bug is there since Illustrator 10. As far as I remember, it is not a platform-specific behaviour. It doesn't happen with ordinary path objects.

Copy and paste pictures from preview to ebay problem
Hi.
I am creating adverts on eBay with my macbook and when I copy and paste a picture from preview, into the body of the advert it works fine and displays fine. I then save the advert and go to view it on my mac and all displays ok.
However my problem is when I view it on anything other than a mac. The pics just show up as a small block with a strange symbol in it.
Anybody got any ideas?
It seems daft that I can create an ad on a PC and you can view pics no matter what machine you use, yet when I use a mac it's not the case. I hope it doens't mean I have to keep using my PC.
So you know, I have tried it with the picture file being a ".png" file and a ".jpg" file and it made no difference.

MarkSorry to disagree but this isn't right.
I copy and paste on my PC and it works just fine to view on anything so if what you're saying is right then it would surely do the same on a PC.
Aslo it IS saving the image in the body of the ad because if I view it on another mac it displays correctly.
I'm not sure what you mean by you upload the pictures at the end. I want to type a bit about the product, then have a picture, then type some more and maybe put some more pics. Like this

The only difference here is these were created on a PC.
I must add on thing though. When I'm trying to add the pictures, I have them open in "preview" and I crop them by using the instant alpha cutting tool. Then I copy and paste it. I've even tried savingit as a jpeg file and a bmp file and makes no difference.

I am using MathType with Adobe InDesign in Mac computers (OS X 10.4.11 and Leopard OSX) . After creating an equation in MathType and copying to the clipboard I paste it in an InDesign CS3 file. When pasting the equation, which was written using an appropiate font (Time, Book Antiqua, or New Century Schoolbook, etc), the fonts change to Arial, independently of the fonts used in MathType. This does not happen when pasting the equations in Word. Using the Save As command in MathType and the Place command in InDesign, which I don´nt want to use, solves the problem. Does someone knows why this happens and how to cope with this problem? Thanks.
Thanks Peter. In fact, I had the preference for clipboard in InDesign set to "text only". However, changing it to include all the information (formatting, etc) did not resolve the problem. I continue getting the Arial font, whenever I paste an equation from MathType. I should mention that I am using a Spanish versión of InDesign CS3 and don´t know if this is causing troubles. I Hope to find an answer to this question in the near future.
The reason I don´t want to use "Save as" in MathType and the "Place" command in InDesign is that when a variable or an equation occurs several times in a given chapter of the Calculus book I am writing, InDesign creates a link each time I use it, even when "Copy" and "Paste" are used within this last application. In other words, once I "Place" an expressión or a symbol (for example the symbol for irrational numbers) from MathType and I use the same symbol or expression in the InDesign chapter or page, I get several links on the link palette. As a result, I have a lot of links, all of them referred to the same expression, symbol or variable. May be this answers what FivePicaPica says.
As I know, by the way, Macs and MathType are not limited to only two fonts. In fact, any of the system fonts can be used and "copy and paste" with Word. The problem arises when cpying and pasting from MathType to InDesign.

Cut/copy and paste on the iPad I get extra text
When I cut/copy and paste on the iPad I get extra text symbols like "%". Is there a way to just copy the text without the extra stuff? If I copy from Safari and paste into an email I have to go and erase all the extra text.
the % is usually caused by spaces. It's an HTML 'glitch' in that, in the brain and logic of HTML, there should never be a space, so when it sees them it inserts % to fill that void that it's logic says isn't there.
I'm not sure if there is a work around beyond maybe pasting it first into a text document, then from there into your e-mail and see if that makes the symbols go away. -
Hi. i would like to copy and paste the info in the composer field, year & grouping into the comments field within itunes. (so it would look like "COMPOSER - YEAR - GROUPING")

The script will copy the comment of a song and add it on top of the lyrics of that song (if you don't have any lyrics, it will only add the comment).

Itunes copy and paste get info
I have a lot of info written in the Comments field in my itunes songs and was wondering if I can get automator to copy that field to the Lyrics field. Each song has different information written in the comment field and I have thousands of songs so you can see how this would be tedious to do manually.

use to have not problem doing this in non mx version of flash
n freehand.. but now i copy a symbol draw from Flash Pro 8 n paste
it in Freehand MX, its shape become "polygon-ed"
in flash i draw a circle n convert to symbol..

Adobe Flash Copy and Pasting Scenes
When you copy and paste a frame or scene in Adobe Flash, whatever changes you make to one frame or scene cascades onto the other (that you have duplicated).
Is there a way to prevent this? For example, if I add text to Scene 1, it will add the same text to Scene 2 too because I duplicated Scene 1 to make Scene 2.

you can edit a movieclip instance without editing all instances of that movieclip by editing the instance on the movieclip's parent timeline. do NOT double click the movieclip instance and edit the symbol. -
Copy and Pasting Motion? Please help!
Im quite new to flash. It's really, really annoying me at the minute.
My situation: I've got 7 frames of animated motion that is exactly the way i want it. I want these 7 frames of motion to loop so it gets to around 300 frames. So rather than doing every frame manually (which takes ages) i went to copy and paste motion.
So i highlight my 7 frames and click 'copy motion'. Then I try pasting them and i get the error mesage (in the attached picture) that nothing is selected. But i've clicked on the 8th frame, the place were i want the motion to begin, but still it says this error message.
So then i insert a new frame on the 8th frame space and paste the motion over the top of the 8th frame, but it misses the first 2 frames of animation (therefore messing eveything up) out and the motion is also wrong on top of that!
Im desperate here, all i want to do is something simple and i dont know how.Yeah i want to animate my keyframes.
I know i can copy and past the keyframes, but thats not what i want because if i do that my character does not progress forward (or to the right of the screen in this instance). I want to copy and paste the motion so he goes forward (to the right of the screen).
I have the character and i want him to walk from left to right across the screen whilst moving his, arms, legs and head etc (the motion) in a certain way.
Also i had already converted my layers to symbols. I will attach another picture to show you my character. -
Copy and pasting from Word to Indesign problem
I am copy and pasting Japanese characters from Word 2011 to InDesign CC, but when I go to paste into Indesign the characters to not show up. They are replaced with place holder symbols. I need help!

If I copy and past from ID to Illy, is it vectorized?
I have some frames (no text) in an ID CS4 document that I want to copy and past into an Illustrator document. Do these things get converted to vector in the process?
This can turn into a very long discussion would help to know more about why you need to know, or a specific example.
The appearance palette will not give you a yes or no answer as to whether something is vector, but will give you valubale information to help determine that.
If appearance says group , you need to switch to the direct select tool.
Certain items like symbol could be bitmmaped if for example you had some text with a drop shadow (text would be vector, and the drop shadow would be bitmapped).
Pretty much everyhting is vector, except for these I can think of
Photshop effects
3D shape with a map applied
Illustrator Effects of (drop shadow, feather, inner outer glow) -
In 2012, if I copy and paste from one string to another, the text turns on Bold and Underline. Does this happen you everyone else? Is this a bug that has been or need to be reported?

Go to Solution.This problem existed way before LabVIEW 2012 but because of the random nature, you might not have bumped into it. It is not a new problem.
You are lucky with only bold/underline. Long ago, I got 20pt greek symbol (or similar) font for a while when pasting.

Need help for trying to unfreeze a message on my ical. I was trying to copy and paste some appointment info from one day to another on my ical and a message popped up saying the system responded with an error. All of my info was below the message. I can't get that message to go away or work on the ical now at all. I try to force quit ical and have shut down the computer and it still comes up. Any suggestions?

Try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find that Library folder, if you are using Lion, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart.
Next, make sure that you are not connected to the internet. Then to to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder and remove any files with "Cache" as a part of the file name. Use the same method as listed above to get to the correct Library Folder. Log out/in, or restart and check iCal for functionality. -
Sorry for short novel I am writing. I just wanted to cover as much backround as possible.
So, here it goes. I backed up my iphone 4 after renting a movie. The movie only played the starting credits before I was called on for daddy duty. A few days later the movie would not play, so I restored my phone from my backup. The movie would still would not play so itunes support refunded my purchase and ended my viewing privileges for that rental after verifying that I had not viewed the movie. I then had a problem with my contacts showing up twice in the contacts list after the restore. So I attempted another restore. All was well at this point. I then started having trouble with my pc and decided to copy the internal drive to an external source. A week later I had a system failure and did a factory restore on my computer. I re-installed itunes and tried to copy and paste the old backup into the new itunes. Now itunes just flat out does not see the backup file (I failed to mention that I did a factory reset on the iphone after the last backup, hopping to start fresh). Tech support had me uninstall and re-install itunes and then copy and paste the old backup into the newly installed itunes with no luck. The files are all there, but itunes just doesn't see them (itunes says the device has not been backed up to the cloud or to the local machine). We then tried backing up the factory restored iphone and replacing that restore file with one of my old backups on the external drive. Ok, this is where it gets weird. We replaced the guts of the folder but left the folder itself so itunes would continue to recognize the new backup folder with the old files. Whoohoo, itunes now see's a backup folder full of old files, or so we thought. The new files were deleted using shift delete so they would be gone for good and not mix with any files or folders. When I restore my phone, it restores the files that were deleted from the restore file (pause here for a moment and imagine the stupid look on the face of tech support and I while we silently wonder how files that were permanently deleted were restored). This left tech support and I both scratching our heads. My service issue was escalated to the next level. I waited for the phone call the next day that was scheduled at 10am to my wife's phone, but the call never came through. As usual, apple disappoints again. I just bought an iphone 5s and still have the iphone 4, and am looking for a solution to retrieve my contacts and restore to the 4 or 5s. I am guessing that files in other folders must be associated with the iphone backup in order for itunes to retrieve the files. HOW TO DO THIS: Copy and Paste THE selected Filename AND its entire PATH from Finder to another application as in document footer reference, or document database which has a path field to aid in locating the file later.
Finder, Spotlight and File Info (can be used to display Path) or using Command F, command I, etc. but user is not allowed to copy the path to clipboard.
This is rudimentary, yet the word Path, is unknown to Mac Help.

its tedious, but this should work:
open a terminal window.
Drag and drop the icon for the file in the terminal
window.
This will put the full path including the filename on
the command line.
Copy the path from the command line, and paste
(wherever).
Close the terminal window.
