Copying Audio CDs in not-iTunes format--how?

My MacPro has two optical drives, and I was trying to copy an audio CD from one drive to the other. (Of note, my Preferences do not specify iTunes as the program with which to open audio CDs.) As soon as I insert an Audio CD, all files on the CD seem to show up as iTunes files. When I drag them over to a blank CD and burn it (using the burn button on the blank CD's folder), they're burned as iTunes files. That's fine for computer-to-computer sharing, but if I want to listen on a car CD player, it wont recognize the files. So, how do I copy the songs in the original format without transforming them in any way? Thanks.

Hi Joseph,
You can create a playlist in iTunes as previously mentioned and then click the burn button at the bottom right hand side. It doesn't actually matter what format they are in, [from what I can tell/have experienced], as it will burn playlists in the .AIFF format anyway which is playable in the car or home audio system.
I have a mixture of AAC, MPEG & Apple lossless formats and even when mixed in a playlist they burn fine - and the same. Toast is an excellent program and does a great job of burning all-sorts so is recommended :0)
I only posted in case you were going to change the format of all your imported files to .AIFF before burning as it is time and space consuming!
Hope that helps?
Regards
B

    Hi,
Not sure you can do anything about this. I get vaiable import speeds - a lot depends on the actual disc. The Read Write spec is 24X but I rarely see speeds close to this.

  • Can't copy audio CDs to iTunes

I just installed iTunes 10 and now whenever I try to upload a CD, it reads the tracks just fine, but then tells me "the required file can not be found".
Anyone have any ideas about how to fix this?

So if I wanted to make playable cds (playable in a cd player) with the song names included on the cd, could I do that?
No. Well at least not that I know of. Your standard audio CD for a CD player does not contain the track information on the CD. You only see it on the computer because your iTunes or whatever is looking it up for you.
I hesitated writing this because there are mixed media audio CDs but these are complex and I don't think are what you want. With that kind of CD you might have the option of storing a separate text file with the tune names, but you have to use dual formatting on the CD and... messy.
You can of course burn AIFF files or MP3 files to a CD but these are not CDs that will play in a CD player. Well, again, there are some CD players that play mp3s, but I have never seen one in action so I don't know if they show the track information. It wouldn't be difficult to do so maybe they do do it. MP3s are lossy format which means they are lower quality than the original.

  • Apple gift card email not received (not iTunes). How do I resend?

  • My Apple remote now controls Aperture, not iTunes. How do I change this?

Apologies if this question has been asked already; my search didn't find previous threads. Anyway, this is a vaguely entertaining problem.
If I have iTunes and Aperture running, and am working in Aperture, when I fast forward, play/pause etc with my Apple Remote, these commands are applied to Aperture, not iTunes. Play sends me into full screen mode with the image I'm working on, Fast forward and rewind move forwards and backwards through my images.
I guess that's a neat bit of techno wizardry on Apple's part, but I'd much rather have my remote talking to iTunes than Aperture, when iTunes is a background application. How do I correct this?

Went into Settings - Mail - my work account - Domain.
Don't see a Domain listing in the Mac Mail program.

  • I've deleted songs from my hard drive, but not itunes. How do I find the missing file entries in itunes?

The problem I have is that there are songs in my library that are no longer on my hard drive. I've either removed them or renamed them. And now, when iTunes comes across one of these song entries it gives the the prompt to locate it. I know that there used to be a way to find all these, but with all the changes in itunes 11, I have no idea how to do it now. Is there an easy way to highlight and delete all of these entries?

"One of the benefits of Match, right?  Saving hard drive space."
I would not use iTunes Match as a backup. There are too many bugs and I don't think that's what they intended it to be anyway. The main advantage of using it is to make your music available on OTHER devices, not to replace the music on your original computer.

  • 7th Gen iPod Classic was unplugged during sync, now it pops up in Windows Explorer, but not iTunes. How can I fix this?

    Okay.
I have a Windows 7 x32 OS, and an 80gb Silver 7th Gen iPod Classic.
So, I bought an iPod used off of eBay and I recently decided that 80gb was a bit too much, so I was going to resell it on eBay and buy a smaller iPod.
While I was restoring it to set it back to factory settings, my computer shut off due to a power problem.
Now when I plug it in, I get a message from windows saying "You need to format the disk in drive :M before you can use it. Do you want to format it?"
It shows up in windows explorer as a Removable Disk, and it isn't being detected by iTunes. I plug it in the iPod says "Connected. Eject before disconnecting." with a symbol that it makes when it is syncing.
I've tried putting it in disk mode, and it still will not detect it.
Can somebody help me? I really don't want to be stuck with a broken iPod.
If anyone needs or wants any more information before they can advise, please feel free to tell me what you need to know and I will post it!
Thanks, and have a blessed day.

    Hello b0nvivant,
Thank you for providing so much information about the iPod issue you are experiencing.  I found an article with steps to take when your iPod is recognized in Windows Explorer but not in iTunes:

  • In System Preferences,  and CDs &DVDs, I've set the drop-down menu for audio CDs to open iTunes. can anyone tell me why it always reverts to Ignore?

Can anyone help me figure out why the setting in System Preferences and CDs & DVDs will always revert to Ignore when I set the drop-down menu to When you insert a music CD, to Open ITunes? I've tried iTunes Help and it told me exactly what I have been doing. I've even tried downloading iTunes again, to no avail. If anyone has had the same problem, please let me know. I would very much appreciate it.

In iTunes Preferences not system preferences under the General Tab there is a drop down in the lower part letting you specify what action to take when a CD is inserted
    Show CD
    Begin Playing
    Ask To Import
    Import CD
    Import and Eject
I believe this setting adds to the system preferences
    In system Preferences I have

  • If I want to transmit the audio infomation use my own format, how can I do?

In order to transmit the sound for secret, I want to change the default format by encrypting it.
    Is it viable?
If it is viable, where can i find the correlative data?

Seems like there are two directions you could go in. First, you could extend the Processor class to add support for transcoding a new audio format, and then you'd be able to encode/decode it the same way normal audio works. Good luck figuring out how to do that, and good luck find any sort of helpful documentation.
The second idea, which is going to be more documented, is to developed a custom RTP payload. You could then use any audio format, and just encrypt the actual packetized data with whatever data encrpytion scheme you wanted. Most hosts would simply reject the RTP payload if they intercepted the stream, and even if they did receive it, they would have to be able to decrypt it before they could play it.
For more information about creating your own RTP payload type, take a look at:

  • Audio CDs burnt off iTunes cannot be played

This is a rather curious problem - when I burn an album I purchased in the iTunes store to a CD it subsequently fails to play not only on my CD player and DVD player, but also in iTunes itself - in this last case the CD is recognised by iTunes and the Finder, properly displayed, but the songs won't play and iTunes hangs, just as my CD player does. Has anybody else experienced this problem?

    Gijs Kessler wrote:
I've got a very old CD player which does not handle Mp3 (didn't exist even back then), but that is not the main issue - I just ran a test by burning an album to disk which I successfully burned to disk one or two months ago. Same settings, same album, same Mac. The disc I created two months ago plays fine on both CD player and Mac, the new one has all the problems which I reported in my initial posting and does not play. It is my suspicion that this might be a bug in the 9.0.2 iTunes update which I guess was released between the first and second disk....
could it perhaps be a bad blank cd ? try another brand ?

  • Audio from TV not iTunes

Set up Apple TV v.2 and I when I try to play iTunes I get video but the audio is from TV. What's going on? What do I have to change? I have it playing thru home theater system using HDMI cable.

That will carry audio to your TV. If you want your home theatre to output audio you either need to connect via optical or if you have an older system there are two options: output from the TV to the receiver or purchase a converter.

  • NOT Remembering audio CDs I burned

I burned a mix of songs on a CD from a playlist, which posted the name of the CD on the desktop when completed. Then I ejected the CD to write the name on the CD and put it back in the computer to see if it worked. The name of the CD was changed to "Audio CD" and all the tracks were only track numbers. I found this quote on Apple's help page, but it is not working like they say it should. What is wrong? and what can I do? I am not going to type all the CD names my self! This must be a bug?
    "*Remembering audio CDs you burn*:
"iTunes also adds an entry to the "CD Info.cidb" file every time you burn an audio CD. This is how iTunes "remembers" the CD and track names for every mix CD you burn. The CD and track names are not burned anywhere onto the CD itself. If you insert the burned audio CD into another computer, the CD will be titled "Audio CD", and will have generic track names. The one exception to this rule is if you burn the tracks from an audio CD exactly as they are on a store-bought audio CD. Since the track length and the overall CD length is the same as the store-bought album, iTunes finds the information for the store-bought album when it looks the CD up online."

I record sermons for my church, then use iTunes to add the track title, who the speaker was, etc. Recently, since version 9 of iTunes, those track names do not show on the CDs I burn, even when the disk is inserted in iTunes, on the same computer the CD was burned on. In previous versions of iTunes, not only did the tracks show up on my computer, but they also were present when the disc was inserted in another computer or, into a CD player that shows track names. I have looked in the preferences to see if something isn't checked, but cannot find anything there, and of course I haven't been able to find anything in the iTunes help section. Any reason this changed in iTunes v.9? Is there a way to fix it?

  • Mounting audio CDs on osx 10.8.4 fails

    Hi out there,
I have read many tips about this going wrong, however none of the solutions paths provided did help me. Yes I checked filesystem, deleted CD preferences, updated iTunes etc. The situation hasnt changed: standard CDs do mount w/o problem on my superdrive. However "official" audio CDs do not. My selfmade data cds, audio CDs and DVDs including ready baught DVDs do mount the corersponding app. My feeling is that iTunes is not found and no other application for Audio CDs and thats why the CD is ejected after three tries of mounting them. Needless to say they dont show up in df command, disk utilty or finder. Of course I checked system preferences first and all media should open their standard app. I havent installed any non apple apps for music or DVDs. This is just bad and any input for more in depth trouble shooting more than welcome.

Clean the Optical Drive. The lens that reads CDs might be dirty or have fuzz stuck on it.
for example, see > CD and DVD Lens Cleaning Kit
Clean the CDs. Optical superdrives are finicky and do not like dirty, filmy, finger printed or scratched CDs.

  • Audio cd does not play properly

I have an early 2008 macbook with a cd/dvd combo drive. My problem is audio CDs will not play or import properly. The music scratches and pops and sometimes there is no sound at all. When I try to import the audio, sometimes the files will only be 10 seconds long, but the track on the cd is 7 minutes. Also when importing a CD some of the tracks in iTunes say "Not Available" where the length of the track is listed. DVDs, on the other hand, play fine.
I'm not using burned discs. These are brand new audio CDs.

I just started having the same issue, I just got a brand new cd and when I import the cd I get skips and scratches in the music. I just updated to 10.6 today, and I don't know if it is a problem with the new operating system or with my aging machine (most likely my machine because it is a '06 MB). I know it is not the CD because I can play it on my surround sound at home with no skips. Any ideas how to fix the issue?
