"Copying audio files"

So why is that sometimes, when I'm working with software synths, logic will decide that in order to save, it must copy audio files from the samples?

I just posted this answer in another thread:
There is a little box at the bottom of the Save menue called "include assets", tick that and a dropdown menue opens giving you various possibilities which assets to save with your project.

  • Download Helper, even with paid converter upgrade, gives "Invalid Capture File" errors and will not record audio, with "File Creation Error - Unable to rename/copy audio file" Error.

Download Helper Screen Capture worked to capture video if the default "no audio" option is active. But, no audio. The "speakers" or "microphone" audio options are confusing....the audio to be captured is from the video, so what do you choose? With either "speakers" or "microphone" selected, the captured file has poor audio and no video. Re-capture efforts (speakers) get "Invalid capture file error" and "File Creation error- Unable to rename/copy audio file"
The paid upgrade of "Converter" doesn't work.
Instructive documentation - not very good.
Suggestions - Need time delay between initiation of "Record" and starting the video to be recorded.
Could use timer tracking of the record process.
Are there operating system limitations? (Have Windows XP Pro)

That is an issue for the developer of that Download Helper.

  • I need to copy audio files and projects from logic to an external hard as my MBPis nearly full and my external hard drive has packed up with all my files on it, any suggestions on how do I copy 200GB from my MBP to a new external HD

I Use logic and back my audio file and projects on an external HD ,this has now packed up . I have all the files in the MBP , but need to copy them to a new external HD, I have only 10GB left on my machine , how do I copy 200GB from my machine to a new External HD.
any helpful full advice would be appreciated.
    angus

Yes, just drag and drop them into the drive..
How long will it take? Hard to say without knowing the type and speed of the drives in question.. and even then it's hard to estimate... but does time really matter?
The fact you only have 10 Gigs left will/may slow the process down but it wont/shouldn't stop it...
If needed.. just drag and drop some of the files at a time.. not all of them.
Remember that copying files doesn't delete them from the original drive... You will still need to delete them yourself after they are copied over and empty the trash....
    However....
When you saved these projects in Logic (Pro X?) did you save them using the include audio files option?
If not, then when you move the audio files used in these projects... Logic will not know where they are to reload them........ and that will cause you issues.
    So.. if you didn't...
I would use this method instead...

How do you use itunes to burn audio files to cd?

    As explained here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/how-to/#management-cdfromalbum

  • Copying audio files to SD memory card

I have a 1GB Secure Digital card connected with a card reader. I converted an audio book CD to mp3 files using iPhoto. When I try to copy the mp3 files to the empty SD card, after 75 files and 342 MB, this message appears: "The item cannot be copied because there is not enough free space."
I can fill this card to capacity with JPEG files.

I also have this same problem on multiple SD cards and readers, although there is no such problem when I transfer the files on to the same cards with a Windows PC! I've also noticed that my Powerbook G4 puts an additional file for each audio track that uses no data, but just lists the file name again. It would be GREAT if someone could figure this out!!! Thanks!

  • Copying audio file digitized and edited in Sound Studio back onto cassette

Thank you in advance for your forebearance, I have so little experience with computer audio capibilities, but have been able (using Sound Studio) to digitized some of the audio presentations of our community so that they may be used on an ipod or listened to on a CD. Having the ability to edit the original tapes has been wonderful in that I have been able to delete a lot of unwanted talking, etc. Now however, i would like to use the edited file to make a new "edited" audio cassette ( for those members who still use cassettes). How do I do this? I have a Griffin iMic and a cassette deck that I used to get the original audio cassette into Sound Studio, but now in essence want to reverse the flow of audio from the computer's files back to the cassette deck. Is this possible?

Thank you Rhonda for your reply. Yes, my Ibook does have a cd burner and I did burn a cd of the edited material, but didn't realize my cd/cassette player could play a cd and produce a cassette of it at the same time!
After posting my question I hooked a "rca" harness of sorts, that terminated at one end with a plug that fit into the headphone jack of my cd player. The other end of the harness with the rca plugs I plugged into the rca ports of a seperate cassette deck. To my delight that worked. Your way however is so simple and effective; it certainly gets the job done without any wires, elaborate connections or a seperate tape deck. I never would have known that without your input. Thank you .
Thank you again for your help, I really appreciate it

  • Reloading saved audio files?

Basic question. I'm using LPX and I have it set to copy audio files into project. I then deleted one of my takes from the track / timeline area, which gave me a warning, asking if I wanted to save the audio file (as I had no other used instances of it at the time in my tracks). I said yes to save and it said it was saved to my project. Now I would like to go and listen to that take again. How do I open it? Where can I find it? I'm sure this is obvious to some of you, but any help is appreciated!

The upper right corner is the "Browser" icon.  If you click there, you should see all your project audio files.

  • Failing to import my own audio files (not copy protected files)

I'm having trouble getting external audio files to import properly into GarageBand, most specifically MP3 files. These aren't copy protected audio files, these are files I've created myself in other programs and unprotected MP3 sound effects clips downloaded from various web sites.
Here's what happens, I open GB and create a new project. I find the audio file that I want to start with, an MP3 file that plays just fine in QuickTime and iTunes. I drag the audio file into GB to create a new track. GB begins a conversion/import process or whatever it does to be able to edit an MP3 file. I see the progress bar filling up as it does this. When it is complete a new track is created with the MP3 file's name, however the track itself is empty. I don't see any content and there is no audio when I hit play. I don't get any sort of error message either.
I've tried playing with the MP3 file settings, changing them to mono, adjusting bit rates, compression, etc. but every time I try to import into GB this same process happens with no results. These audio files I'm creating play in all my other audio playing apps, so I'm confused as to what could be wrong.
Can someone tell me how I can get GB to import these files properly? Thanks in advance!

  • My older iPod Touch has music from another Apple ID, but I have had multiple other Apple IDs and I can't find out which ones they are from.  I would also like to know how I can copy the music and have it saved to my computer as an audio file.

So I have an iPod Touch, 2nd or 3rd gen., and it has music synced from multiple Apple IDs. I need to know how to copy that music as an audio file to save on my computer.

You can copy iTunes purchased from a device to your computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases - if the account is authorised on your computer's iTunes then you should be prompted to authorise it when trying to copy them.
Or there are programs listed half-way down this page which can copy them back : Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
You can then add them to your iTunes library via File > Add To Library, again you should be prompted to authorise the account if it's not already authorised.
You can also find the account that a track is tied to be selecting/highlighting it in the My Music part of your library, or the Music section of 'OnMy Device' when you select the device, and doing 'get-info' (command-i) - it will show on one of the tabs on the popup

  • Noob question - How can I copy a specific time sequence from an audio file

Hello, I want to chop up an audio file
into time-specific lengths.  How can I accomplish this precisely?  I know I can position the playhead precisely but
how can I copy a chunk of an audio file, for example, if I wanted the segment from 00:02:34.7
to 00:05:42.1?  Is my only option the "drag" selection of the
Time Selection tool?  Is there not an option to do some start and end point setting so I can be as arbitrarily precise as necessary?
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • How can I copy mp3 files from my Itunes library to an SD card for use in a non-apple phone?

How can I copy mp3 files from my Itunes library to an SD card for use in a non-apple phone?  I can physically copy the tunes as mp3's but the phone does not seem to be able to play all of them.   Do I need to copy an entire album or can I just pick & choose individual songs?   The phone is question is an LG running who knows what for an operating system.

AAC is Advanced Audio Coding.  Basically it's a format that sounds better than MP3 but doesn't take up as much space as a lossless format (like you'd have on a CD).  More than likely you've had that encoding turned on when you ripped your music into itunes (it's the default encoder).  Therefore your LG phone won't play them.
You need to turn off the AAC format by going to the iTunes menu, Preferences, General (at the top), then clicking the "Import Preferences" button.  Change the AAC Encoder to MP3 Encoder.  After that you'll have to make MP3 copies of your songs by right clicking them and selecting "Create MP3 Version."  You'll get a copy of the song that should transfer to your SD card and have MP3 encoding.  Hopefully your phone will play that.

  • Any way to export just an audio file?

    Hi All
Is there any way to copy part of a larger audio file, paste it in another track (or open it in the file editor) process it in some way and then export just that file? Been reading manual and books, but this one has me stumped. Only see tracks and busses for export.
    Thanks
    John

If anyone is interested, and it seems not, a helpful person another list answered my question: copy snippet from one file onto another track; solo new track; select just snippet; save. Finally I can add time-based effects to parts of a larger audio file!

  • Using The Same Audio Files On Multiple Platforms

When I import new audio into logic - often it will say that is creating wave forms for the display.
Q: I notice that the audio files on disk do not show an altered modified date - so where are these wave form displays being saved - on the audio file or inside the logic song?
Q: I am interested in possibly going back and forth between logic and Pro tools LE - and at different times using the same audio files for both platforms. Assuming I am not doing any destructive editing - is it OK to use the same set of files for both platforms - or do I need to make duplicates (I'd rather not)? Also, how does this wave form display get dealt with by going back and forth between the two platforms?

A: the waveform overlays are stored in separate,
temporary files - *.ovm files or something, but my
memory is fuzzy on that for now. The original audio
files are not modified in any way.
Hmmm... I've wondererd about this, too, and as best I can tell, Logic DOES modify the original files.
I just imported some stereo interleaved AIF files into a project (with "copy external audio files to project folder" disabled), and I couldn't see any evidence of waveform creation--a disk search by date revealed nothing looking like waveform overviews, and there were no modifications to the AIF file dates.
So... the next time I imported some AIF files, I checked the file sizes before the import...
Sure enough, the files got bigger by about 100K after being imported into a Logic session, even though the file's timestamps were not changed.
Looks like maybe Logic does write the waveforms into the files themselves ?
On a related note, the manual suggests that it's possible to change the "copy external audio files to project folder" setting after creating a project, but I haven't found this anywhere other than File->New... anyone know ?
    Thanks!
