Copying BaseSystem.pkg for 10.4.11

During a backup, my Library folder got somehow deleted. Later, when repairing disk permissions, I got the warning "no valid packages". I found under Apple support that this was due to my missing BaseSystem.pkg receipt. It instructs me to take a copy from another computer running the same system software.
My question: does it matter that my old MBP is a PPC computer running 10.4.11 and my new MBP is intel running 10.4.11, regarding copying its BaseSystem.pkg to solve the above problem?

Nope, if you re-install, it'll make a new one.
What it does/is for, is that it holds the versions of the basic installed software & the starting Permission settings for OS files and APPs.
The other PKG stubs in that folder hold updated version numbers & Permission settings, so when you repair Permissions it first reads that Base PKG then looks for updated information on anything it lists.

I have a powerbook g4 version 10.4.8 and I've noticed it's running very slow. Internet pages take a few seconds before any links are clickable, and programs are slow to respond and are locking up more. I leave my comp on at night, and run macjanitor regularly. I tried doing a verify/repair disk permissions and I receive a "no valid packages" message. After viewing the forums and internet, I see that I need the basesystem.pkg for my receipts folder (which isnt there). How can I get access to this file to replace it (preferably without having to search my closet for the install disk!)? I found a site online that has the downloads available, but the highest version was 10.3.5 -- does it matter that this doesn't match my current version of 10.4.8, or should I find one that matches?

I think your best option will be to reinstall the system from your original disk. It may be a pain, but its the best way to avoid other system conflicts/corrupt files/etc.

BaseSystem pkg

I visited a friend today who runs OS X 10.4.11. on an iMac G5 PPC. He couldn't get Disk Utility to work as it told him it couldn't find valid package. I hadn't seen this before so checked online.
Apparently, in Macintosh HD > Library > Receipts there should be a BaseSystem.pkg but there wasn't.
Now, my buddy is a technophobe so, although I was surprised to find this package missing I wasn't that surprised.
I went home (I run a flat panel iMac G4 PPC running OS X 10.4.11) and emailed him (1.8 mb) a copy of my Base System.pkg.
My question is - because he's nipped off for a couple of days - will my BaseSystem.pkg work on his Mac?

Problem:
I upgraded Leopard to Snow Leopard. Everything worked fine for a month. To free up disk space I deleted some of the iPhoto flders (modfied and original images). Everything worked still fine. Shut down the computer. Next day it was incredibly slow. At the same time the indexing was running. I stopped indexing, but stll slow. Every operation took minutes. I tried all the tricks that I found in the internet (repaired file permissions, repaired disk, cleared PRAM , moved big filed from desktop, etc.). After 24 full hours of trying all this I decided to erase the hard drive and reinstall, directly from the Snow Leopard Install disk, but it fails after downloading the packages. Below is the part of the log. Then I tried to use the old Leopard install DVD to reinstall Leopard, it then sais estimated time 12 hours or so and eventually crashed, spitting out a lot of "reportcrash" in the log. What is going on? I'm running out of options. Any advice? Would zeroing the hard drive help? If nothing else I plan to buy a new hard drive, since the only explanation I have is that there is a problem with the hard driven although the disk utility says it is OK. I need a bigger one anyway. Any ideas? Thank you!

It sounds to me like your Internal Hard Drive is failing.
I recommend you buy a new one, that is a good candidate for replacing the old one, but install it in an External enclosure and Install a fresh Mac OS X on it from the DVD. You can boot your Mac from any attached drive.
The new System can be used to get some work done, check your emails, and takes the pressure off resolving this immediately. You can also attempt to salvage files off the old drive if needed.
Once things seem to be working, then move the new drive inside the computer. Failures at this point may be due to bad cable, which has been a problem in some of these MacBooks.
Use security erase, write Zeroes, one pass, to re-write every block on the old drive. Any block discovered to be bad will be replaced with spares the drive holds in reserve for this purpose. If more than 10 blocks are pared on one pass, "Initialization Failed!" will be the result. Although you can try the erase again, there is some question whether you want to trust this drive with your precious data.

.pkg receipts and BaseSystem.pkg

Dear All,
I have read the existing posts, advice and knowledge-base articles on reinstalling the BaseSystem.pkg file after it being deleted. I deleted all receipts in an ignorant and aggressive clean up and have copied the file from a friend's machine - we both have Tiger.
Disk utility still reports "no valid packages" when I attempt to repair permissions.
Two questions:
1. I deleted this some time ago and have done software updates since (as well as the big one that came out yesterday), as well as installed Apple and 3rd party software. No problems. Should I worry any further?
2. If I should worry, what should I do next? I have a BaseSystem.pkg sitting in my library receipts folder from another computer that seems not to be recognised???

HELP!-need a basesystem.pkg file

My macbook pro running mac osx 10.4.11 started to do some weird things like report an incorrect amount of space left on my HD (went from 10GB to 60 overnight) so I went to disk utility to try to repair the drive and got the "Error: No valid packages" message. I've been told that I can extract the basesystem.pkg (which is missing) from the install disc and return it to the receipts file to get disk utility to work again. The only problem is I am out of the country right now and do not have the discs with me. Can someone running the same os upload the file for me? or if you have any other suggestions I would be happy to hear them! thanks!

You can download the CS6 trial version just like anybody else.
Once you download it, you can install it, input your serial number, register it and apply all necessary updates.
An alternative, if you know how to access your Adobe account, under My Products you'll find your Photoshop CS6 registration, next to which you should find a link to download CS6 if you originally bought it as a download

If you are referring to the original system reinstall discs that shipped with every Mac before Lion came out you'll need to contact Apple with the serial # of your Mac and order a replacement set of them.
Or look on one of the Auction websites or places like iFixit.com for a replacement set.
If your Mac came new with any of the Download Only versions of OS X, Lion, Mt Lion or Mavericks you don't need any discs to reinstall OS X. You use the Online Internet Recovery system or the built in Recovery HD partition inb the internal hard drive.
For the built in Recovery HD hold down the Command + r keys at startup. For the Online system hold down the Command + Option/Alt + r keys and keep them held down until you see a globe on the screen.

Problem with Copy To/Browse for Folder

Don't know when it started doing this, but now when I right-click and select Copy To and select Browse for Folder it only shows me folders that are under my W7 user name.
I need to get to my external drive, but it doesn't display Computer.
Strange and very inconvenient.
Looking for a solution.

Hmm, can't imagine how my workspace would relate to what drives Bridge reads using the Copy To. My drives show up just fine in the folders view. And also in the Export to dialog.
I keep my images on an external drive.
Folders that are not under my user name on C drive, but still on another drive show up in the recent ones in Copy To and access just fine.
So it makes no sense that Copy To>Browse for Folder only displays my drive C Windows user folder on that other drive.

My requirement is that the quoatation must get copied to sales order as it is along with the values for subitems also.
In copy control settings there is a field at item level called

In this if I maintain value
A: The variant is getting copied but the values for subitems is not getting copied the values for main material is in changable mode.

Purchasing> purchase Order> Define Screen layout at Document Level
Copy NBF as ZNBF > Details >Under Administrative data, item Make Info Update as Display
Copy NBF as ZNBS> Details >Under Administrative data, item Make Info Update unchecked
     Purchase Order> define Document Type> Create a Separate Doc Type ZSER for Service PO. Suppose ZNB is u r PO doc type of all other purchase
     Assign field selection ZNBF with ZNB. Delete Item Category D from Allowed item category of ZNBF for finer control
     For ZSER (Service Doc type keep only D as allowed item Category. Assign field selection ZNBS with it.
So You will be able to create all other purchasing except Service by using ZNB doc type and PO price will be updated from previous PO by means of Info Update option. For ZSER doc type you will be able to create only service PO and it will not take the reference of previous PO
For making PR mandatory for service PO there is no standard option. If ypu have some specific user for making Service PO then you can follow the following route:
TCODE OMET> Create function auth 15 , Check Ref to PR
SU3>PARAMETER> Maintain Parameter ID EFB & Parameter value 15

Using the clipboard for something like this seems wasteful (both for storing the number and for inserting an image).

Most probably, you have a 'private'-folder = part of an AVCHD-structure on your root-level of that drive.
Put it back into its folder (or any folder) - done.
Don't rip AVCHD-folders apart!
