Copying cd's into iTunes library
I'm copying a cd into my iTunes library the tracks all come over but are in a random order e.g. Instead of 1, 2, 3 they appear as 5, 12, 7 etc...... Can anybody help?
In the window where you see the track in random order, you have several columns. Each line is a song and the informations are spread on the line in different columns (Album - Name - Lenght - Singer.... etc).
If you click on the name of each column you sewt the alfabetical order according to tha conten of that column.
Try to click on the column which contains the track numbers..
I was thinking may be you have a different alfabetical ordere selected...

Copying wmv file into itunes library
I have a wmv file that I would like to put on my Ipod, but I can't copy it into the itunes library (nothing happens, no error message, nothing). How can I put this video in itunes so that I can put it on my Ipod
Look at it in Windows explorer - does it say it is WMA protected? If so, iTunes can't play it.

I apologize if this is already in the forum somewhere, I simply could not find this question being asked anywhere. We have an iMac running Lion with all of the latest updates as well as the latest version of iTunes. All of the digital movies we've purchased through iTunes, have been purchased through my iTunes account. However, my wife is the one with the iPad, and syncs it with her own iTunes library and her own Apple ID. I have turned on Homesharing for my library, and she can see my library from within her iTunes account. We turned on the feature to automatically copy new movies into her library so that she could sync those movies onto her iPad. However, I quickly discovered that it is literally storing a second copy of the movie file in her iTunes folder, and therefore eating up precious hard drive space. Is there a way for her to "check" movies in my homeshare library from within iTunes to sync with her iPad when she connects it, without actually copying those movies into her iTunes folder? If not, any suggestions on how we can solve this issue?
What you're describing is the expected behaviour. I believe though that is also is the easiest way to have all the contents available to both of you at all times. If you have a spacious hard drive you should probably allow this to happen as anything else will be harder to manage.
My suggestion would be the following if you want to try something different.
Store all your music at a location that is accessible by both of you — an example would be to use your Public Folder as the locations where iTunes will go and look for all the media files—. Your wife does have access to it.
In the Finder you will need to move the folder name iTunes Music to the location in your Public Folder (see above). Once that's done, you and your wife will have to go into the iTunes Preferences > Advance Preferences and un-check Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library. From this point on, you can continue to use iTunes as usual. You'll need to tell your wife what has been newly downloaded/imported into your iTunes so she can manually go look for those items in that Public Folder iTunes of yours and import them into her iTunes. She will not duplicate by doing that, but, like I say this is an all-manual work.
She can do the same, so you have access to contents she imported herself. One more downside of this is that both usernames have to be active in your iMac. If yours isn't, she won't be able to access any item (song, book, app) located in your Public Folder's iTunes.
I'm sure there's a way, if you have an router with external hard drive conectivity, for both of you to be able to access —independently— the iTunes Media at all times but I was just reading at another post that doing so can further complicate things.
Hope this helps. Please let me know what you think or decide to do.

Please Help! After downloading an album and dragging it into itunes I end up having multiple copies of the album on my hard drive. I do have (under Itunes preferences, advanced) copy songs into itunes library "checked". I'm sure this is the reason for the multiple copies. When I try to delete one of the copies of the album and go back to itunes and try playing a song, I get a red exclamtion point next to the song with an error message saying itunes cannot locate file. My questions are, Does Itunes literally make a copy of the song? If so , How do you know which file to delete?
Sony's own entertainment software on the Vaio plays merry **** with iTunes, worse there's no telling when it will kick in.
First head over to the Sony Vaio site and get the update for the software, that will stop it from messing with the iTunes database/library files when you connect your iPod.

With that stopped you can add the music back without fear of this happening again. -

How do I import just PART of a song from a CD into iTunes Library?
I am trying to get just a little bit of one of my songs from my CD into iTunes Library so I can use it on a website. I do not want the entire song. Can this be done?
No, not as far as I know.
You can, once imported, change the 'Start Time:' and 'Stop Time:' (Get Info, Options tab) and convert it, using the converter of your choice.
The copy will have the length between start and stop times.
Beware of copyright issues before putting (parts of) songs on a website.
If you own the copyright, it's no problem of course.
Hope this helps.

Often times when I copy a CD into my library it will break my CD into multiple albums in my library, each with only a few songs.
Usually this is because there might be songs where the artists has other artists in the song.
How can I compile all of the different albums (all with the same name by the way) back into one as was the original disc?Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

I have copied my CDs into iTunes (currently running v11) to play on my iPod. I have now bought a non Apple mp3 player to use when I am out running. How can I copy the many tracks I want from iTunes onto the new player?
ThanksI tried Notpod but can't get it to work. Part of the problem, I suspect, is that I can't create a folder on my player (a SanDisk Clip+). I also can't do this in Windows Explorer. Whilst I can see the Clip+ in Explorer, the option to create a new folder isn't there.
The error mesag I get in Notpod is:
"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit the application will close immediately.
InvalidArgument=Value of '0' is not valid for 'SelctedIndex'. Parameter name: SelectedIndex"
Then, when I plug the Clip+ into a USB port, iTunes thinks it is my iPad - which is because, I guess, Notpod hasn't worked.
I can drag and drop files from the Music folder where my iTunes tracks are stored onto the Clip+ and they get converted but I'd rather synchronise a Playlist from iTunes if I can.
Thanks anyone who can help -
HT3819 can I copy my wife's iTunes library to my iphone?
can I copy my wife's iTunes library to my iphone?
If you share the same Apple ID, it shouldn't be a problem. You can sync from your computer or download from Purchased.

Sometimes when I copy a CD into iTunes all of the songs do not show y up in one album, but mutiple albums, all with the same name. Is there an easy way to get all of the songs into one album.
Generally adding a common album artist will fix things.

HT4914 drag and drop file into itunes library
I am no longer able to drag and drop a song file on my Mac desktop into iTunes library..anyone know why?
JollyGeri, after I installed the 10.5.3 version a few days ago I began to have the same problem. The first time i used iTunes after the new install is when the problem of not being able toI manipulate my music by dragging and dropping began. My computer is a Mac and it appears you are using Windows Vista so the solution to my problem will likely be different than yours. I'll just mention that on a mac there is a program called disk utility and with that we mac users can have it repair permissions. After a second attempt yesterday to repair permissions I was able to move music by dragging and dropping as I previously could. However, when I opened itunes today and tried, the same problem was back. I've used the disk utility program to repair permissions again but so far the problem persists. I hope someone is able to help you with your situation. If there is a similar type of program on your windows pc, perhaps by repairing the disk permissions you may be able to get your problem solved. This is very frustrating and I believe there is something in the new version of iTunes that has caused this because I have not installed any other upgreades, etc. since downloading and installing the itunes upgrade. Good luck!

Is it possible to copy a DVD into iTunes and then upload it to my iPad? Is there any way of doing this?
Sure, just use Handbrake to encode the DVD movie into a format that is playable on iTunes and on your iPad:

Once the encoding is complete, move the movie file from your desktop into iTunes and then sync your iPad. Presto, the movie is on your iPad! -
Copying minidisc "files" into iTunes
I have a lot of personal music files recorded onto minidisc - killer technology at the time but pretty useless now.
Does anyone know of a way to copy these files, which I believe are strictly "linear" and must be played through unlike than files that can be copied and pasted, into iTunes? How about connecting to computer through audio in. Playback minidisc while recording the audio using Audacity. Same process is used when getting cassette tapes into computer.
How about these.
