Copying Clips to Tape

I want to copy some clips in iMovie 6 to my camcorder (Canon Optura 600) which supports both FireWire and USB.
Seems easy. But when I play a clip in iMovie my camcorder doesn't see it as input...it still records from the camcorder lens and microphone.
Any suggestions? This can't be hard.

Plug in FireWire cable and turn on power to camcorder. (Use charger to maintain battery power.)
Launch iMovie and select movie project.
Now, the tricky parts:
First, on the Optura 600...
1. Select "Play"
2. Press "Rec/Pause"
3. Press forward button (with right arrowhead and double vertical lines)
Now the camcorder is ready to receive the digital video signal via firewire.
On the iMovie side...
1. In the Share menu, select "Video Camera" At the bottom of the dialog it should show the Optura 600 as connected.
2. Click "Share" button.
If it works you will see the footage on the camcorder screen as it is received and recorded.

  • Capture Problems. 50 clips per tape.

Hi Everyone. I am in a bit of a jam. I have a dozen tapes to digitize. For some reason, FCP acts as if there were Time Codes breaks all over (although there is none). The result is my tape end up divided in 50 clips, which is really annoying because the director needs to derush and I need one clip per tape for that.
I am using: MacBook Pro 17 Unibody
    4 Go Ram - 500 Go HD
    Sony Z7 via forewire
Tried with HDV capture codec and Apple Pro Res 422 (when I switched to Appel Pro Res 422, it worked and I got one clip for an entire tape, but then it started splitting again for the next tape)
All your help & insights will be much appreciated.
    Take care.

you can go into your user preferences and on the first page, stop the create new clip on timecode breaks,
or you can drop all 50 shots on a new timeline then export as a self contained QT movie, then import that back in as one clip (you could even export a copy with the TC reader burnt in)
or when you are capturing do capture now and have device control set to non controllable, but you will lose the camera tape timecode on this one

  • Copying clips to subject bins

In reorganizing the large project I'm working on, I want to copy clips into bins by subject. But I'm worried that by doing so I'll wind up breaking the connection between the original clips (in bins by tape) and the sequences they will eventually be edited into. This seems to have been what happened to previous editors on the project.
Is it ok to do this or is it better to assemble clips by subject into sequences? My concern about this approach is that creating a lot of sequences will increase the size of my project and make in unweildy. Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Loch

See the manual on handling clips in the bins. It's okay to make all the copies you want and put them anywhere you want.
    Subclips? Different matter.

  • Can I copy clips from one project to another?  The clips are still frames captured within a video event.

Can I copy clips from one project to another?  The clips are frames saved as stills from a video event.  I try the copy & paste but it does not seem to work.

The video was converted into MP4 and then I could get it into iMovie events.  I had right clicked and saved farmes as stills.  ABout 50 of them,  When I tried to copy and paste those stills into another project I couldn't. They came up blank.
I ended up going to a Genius appointment at my APPLE store this afternoon and was told that those "stills" aren't really anything. Not a .jpg or video, so the program doesn't recognize them.  So instead I'm using the Project with the 50 stills and copying other .jpgs and video into it.  (This is for a 1961 Class Reunion, so it's old stuff).  Seems to work so far.
So bottom line seems to be I can use these stills created from a video in the project in which they were created, but no where else.  Do you know a way around this?

  • Copying Clips to New Tracks in Premier Elements 2

I am using Premier Elements 2 and I'm trying to copy clips from Video 1 track to another video track. When I paste the clip it always seems to appear on Video track 1.
How can I copy a clip from video 1 track to any other track i.e 2, 3 or 4.
    Many Thnaks.

Any time you use paste, the clip will go to Video 1 at the position of the CTI.
To place a clip on another video track, just drag it there.

  • Copying Clip in another Track

    Good morning,
I am using FCE 3.0 and am having trouble copying clips into another track. I have tried the Copy/Paste method as well as dragging the selected clip with the <Option>key.
The Copy/Paste method does not paste the clip at the playhead on a different track, and the <Option> key method simply moves the clip from one track to another.
I'm sure I'm missing some simple element here and would like to know what it is.
    Thanks.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
For the copy/paste way: pay attention to select the correct video and audio tracks targets.
Sometimes, it's easier to place your playhead right after the last clip of the sequence and paste. Reposition the resulting copy.
For the option drag: pay attention to use option key BEFORE clicking on your original clip, and drag.
Check if your tracks are locked.

  • Copy clip.  Edit copied clip w/o changing original

This should be easy....but I'm having trouble.
I want to take a clip (in this case a title) and copy it. I can do this part.
I then want to change the copied clip (ie change text) but without changing the original clip. Everytime I change the copied clip, the original changes also.
    Thanks

It sounds like you're talking about making a duplicate of a title.
To do this, right-click on the title in the project media panel and select duplicate. Then you can change each title separately.
If you use copy and paste, you merely clone the title and, if you change one, both change.

  • Copying clips between Sequences in Premiere Pro CS6

Had to go back to Premiere CS6 because CC started crashing when viewing a clip in the Source window.  Have to get work done so I went back to an older file in CS6.  In CS6, I had two sequences I was working between and when I would copy clips from one to the other, I would lose audio on the sequence where the clips were going (video is viewble though).  I could here it fine until I closed the project (after saving) and opened it later.  The projects are identical, just one had a few tweaks to the edit.  Same clips in the Bin.  Any way of updating, relinking clips, fixing this issue?

Seaspray -  I will let the experts correct any bad advice here and perhaps I am adding nothing you already don't know or are doing.   I recently went through the same exercise being new to PP CS6.   Is that footage interlaced?    I first drug a sample clip to the New Item button to create a matching sequence.    I had some issues when I wasn't being careful about sequence settings matching, particularly putting interlaced in a progressive sequence.   When I was ready to export, I chose the H.264 Blu-ray preset closest to my source footage.   I made sure the key video characteristics matched - frame size, frame rate, progressive vs. interlaced, if the latter upper or lower, PAR, etc. etc.   In some cases I tweaked VBR vs. CBR and bit rates.    I then produced separate .m2v and .wav video/audio files.   Then I imported those files as assets into Encore.   You should then see Encore tell you it does not need to encode the video or audio after analysis.    Unfortunatley, this process does require one encoding, but I don't believe there is anyway around that matter as PP CS6 apparently does not support "smart rendering".   However, I think with just one encoding you are not going to see your footage noticeably degraded.    Agreed, none of the monitors in PP or Encore should be used to judge quality.   I also noticed major differences playing back files on my PC with various media players vs. PS3 + big TV.

  • Premiere Elements 9 - Strange behaviour when copying clips?

    Hi,
I'm getting some odd behavior with Elements 9 while copying clips. I have a feeling I'm missing something obvious, but I don't know what it is.
There is a specific clip, which has been tailored to a certain length at a certain point in the video, that I need to copy elsewhere in the project. However, when I perform a copy and paste operation on it, the clip appears bu has a small red and white box in the top left corner of its timeline representation. Inside this is written "-15:2". When I play the clip, it is the same length but has reverted to the start of the video it was taken from. The red and white box disappears once I click the clip.None of my other clips do this when copied, and my project relies on accurate timing of clips to sync with some music. I'm going to have to use this particular clip several more times in the project, and I don't want to hand-tailor its starting point each time. What am I doing wrong here?
    Thanks!

Thank you for the quick reply!
Here's a quick screenshot of the clip. The red box and the details are both visible. If I were to play it then all attributes would be the same as the clip I copied except for the time of the clip start.

  • FCP crash while copying clips between sequences

Any insights as to why FCP crashes when I copy clips (overlay) from a small sequence into a larger sequence? I'm doing this by the drag/drop method.

The copy and paste suggestion is good... however I'm not crashing when I tried this just now... a drag and drop between sequences, so figure something's up. I'm running the universal version of FCP however.
Post back with the results of the copy and paste.
Are the sequences in the same project file?

  • Copying old VHS tapes

    AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!
My wife volunteered me to copy her aunts crappy old VHS tapes to DVD. In order to do this, I have to capture the footage and then output it (I really should have gotten one of the stand alone recorders),
The problem is, even though I am running the VHS player through my Sony DVC deck, every time there is a hiccup in the VHS tape, FCP stops the recording! I have set the user settings to not stop on a timecode break (even though there is no timecode). I am capturing using a non-controllable device. Yet by the end of one tape, I have 20 clips, and of course, it also means I have to sit and babysit in case it stops partway through the tape. Is there any way to get around this madness!?!?!
Also, I tried capturing using Quicktimes recording feature, but this kept stopping as well!!

To Play back analogue video with a signal that is good enough to copy reqyuires a Time Base Corrector. This is a device that stabilises the inherent jitter caused by tape players, replacing the sync signals with good quality sync. The resultant signal is then stable enough to record.
you can buy a domestic version of this, which can be used with a DVD REcorder:
    http://cpc.farnell.com/cyp/ctb100/time-base-corrector/dp/AV11954?_requestid=5518 23
there is a combined TBC and analogue video to Firewire converter which can be used to digitise the VHS for editing with Final Cut:

If you buy a Panasonic recorder you can set the firstplay to 'track' which will only playback the video content without menus.

  • How do I sync the "view size" when I copy clips from one sequence to another in FCE4?

My idea was to edit an advanced clip in a separate sequence (bad idea) and then copy it into the main sequence, but I ran into an obstacle.
For a clip to fit the window in Sequence 1 it is shown at 44%, while in sequence 2 it is enough with 22%. Problem is, when I copy a clip from sequence 2 to 1, it appears twice the size. How can I adjust this? The clip from sequence 2 becomes disproportionately big on the screen when copied to sequence 1.
Thank you for taking your time.

As Studio X pointed out, you open a huge can of worms when you work with sequences of different specifications, but try this -
once the clip has been pasted into the sequence, click on it on the timeline so that it is selected. Now Control-click on that clip, and from the drop down menu, choose Remove Attributes.
When the remove attributes pane opens, check the box for Basic Motion and Distort (if they are not grayed out) and click OK. This should reset the clip size.
If this is successful, you can do this to multiple clips all at once by selecting them, then clicking on any one of the selected clips and doing the above.
