Copying congs off your ipod using itunes

just a thought
If i were to install ITunes on a new PC,
then load the ipod in disc mode and specify the music folder on the ipod to be imported to itunes,
then consolidate the library, would that work for getting all the songs onto the pc?

Try this. I've done it on several Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.

  • How do you manage tracks on your iPod using iTunes 7 ?

Hi - On iTunes 7 what would be the best way to manage tracks / albums on my iPod.. It was so easy before but so complicated now, when I connect my iPod, iTunes just comes up with some sort of summary page. I can Sync but I can’t see any way of bringing up all the tracks on my iPod, then manually adding or deleting the tracks. I don’t wish to keep all of the tunes on my iPod but would like to keep some of them in my Library. I don’t want to delete tracks in my Library then sync but this seems like the only option?
    Thanks for any help!

I have just found out how to do this:
    Connect your iPod:
Under DEVICES you will see an arrow (on the left hand side, next to your IPod. If you are unable to display your songs the arrow will be pointing to the right. By clicking on this arrow it will point down, all of your songs will appear. Under Preferences uncheck Auto Sync then you can manually add / delete.

  • When you sync your Ipod using Itunes does it back up your photos?

    Title says it all,
when you sync your ipod does it back up your photos automatically.. Preferrably the photos that are in the camera roll?
My ipod won't turn on at all, I have tried everything and I am thinking it might be a battery issue at this point but anyways.. I might buy the Ipod Touch 5th Generation and I REALLY need the photos that I last had on the ipod. The day before the ipod decided to die on me, I synced it to my computer to put music on it and stuff so I am wondering if it backed up the photos as well?

Yes iTunes backs up your iPod automatically every time you sync unless you have the Summary pane in iTunes for the iPod chacked to backup to iCloud. In that case yo have to manually backup to iTunes.
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
Yes, the iPod backup that iTunes makes (and iCloud makes) includes photos in the iPod's Camera Roll album.

  • Call me silly but how do you get your music off your ipod....

My old computer crashed, lucky me all my music was on my ipod, but now how do i get it out!!! and on to a new computer?? help

    Hello there,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

  • My ipod says "connect to your computer. use itunes to restore."

My ipod says "connect to your computer. use itunes to restore."
So I plug it into the computer and itunes says it needs to restore, so I click restore, everything seems to go fine, and it says the ipod needs to restart, it does, has a lil progress bar go across the ipod screen, then itunes detects the ipod again and says it needs to be restored again. This is an endless loop, anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? Have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if restoring doesn't work, it may be of some help: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore

  • How do you sync only selected songs to your ipod using the new version of itunes?

how do you sync only selected songs to your ipod using the new version of itunes?

Same way you did with the previous versions of iTunes.
To view the iPod in iTunes, Ctrl S to show the sidebar.
Create a playlist, add songs and sync that playlist.
Or drag songs to the iPod in iTunes.

  • Getting music off of Ipod onto Itunes using iDump

My hard drive recently crashed so all my music and videos are gone but all it's all on my Ipod. I read about the program iDump that allows you to transfer the stuff on your Ipod onto Itunes but I'm not very technical and couldn't figure out how to us it. Can anyone give me simple directions on how to do that please?

iDump does work but it takes a while to import each song individually from the music file.

  • Possible to get songs OFF your Ipod and onto an external HDD or your PC?

I have songs on my Ipod that are NOT on my PC (thru having to manually manage my library in the past over 2 'smallish' HDDs in my PC).
When I open my Ipod from within Windows I 'see' the songs in the Music folder as .mpeg4 but no song titles so I can't differentiate between them. For example, a song is listed as CVFK.mpeg4, another as DPKQ.mpeg4 etc ...
When I open the Music folder on my Ipod from within i-TUNES I can see the songs I want, I can "highlight" them, right-click and 'COPY' them, but for the life of me I can't seem to 'PASTE' them anywhere...like IN MY LIBRARY which is on my new external USB HDD.
Why be able to "COPY" if you can't do anything with them? It seems you must be able to, but how? I WANT to copy them off my Ipod and put them into that new exteranl HDD that has 75% of my i-tunes library...the other 25% being my Springsteen collection that at the mo is ONLY on my i-Pod.
I am using a 30gb video ipod with latest software (1.2.1), iTunes 7.1.1.5 (latest) and a fully-updated MS Vista Home Premium.
ANY assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

The transfer of non iTunes Music Store content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 and Windows Vista so it requires a little adaptation as the iPod preferences are no longer in the location described for instance but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated that will let you transfer individual tracks then there are a number of third party utilities that will do what you want. You can use these to retrieve individual music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, check for Vista compatibility as they may not all have been updated yet. Some of these are free and some are commercial but generally they are not very expensive. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

What is the name of the $20 program that has a red itunes icon that transfers music from your ipod to itunes?

I second the whole iTunes folder approach.
If for some reason you have split the media folder from the library files then the media folder needs to restored to the same path it used to have while the library files can be copied into the music folder of your new profile.
If in dobut, backup up the entire Documents and Settings folder before wiping the infected drive, but be selective about what you restore as many viruses drop active components capable of reinfecting the compuer in the temp folders and internet caches. It is much easier to backup more than you need than to discover after the fact that you no longer have access to some vital project you'd been storing in a folder on the desktop.

  • How to copy music from the iPod to iTunes ??

    Hello,
I use iTunes since some months and have bought several songs at iTunes. Now I also bought an iPod and copied the music from iTunes to my iPod.
Because my harddisk was almost full I deleted most songs in my iTunes directory because I thought it is possible to copy music from the iPod to iTunes ... i.e. I thought that the music on my iPod is like a backup.
But now I it seems impossible to copy music back to my computer. Are all those sond lost ?
Dear experts: Is there any possibility to get my music back to my computer ?
    I hope someone can help.
    Regards
    Michael

  • How do you get the photos/videos off your iPod touch?

Is it through itunes because I can't seem to figure it out. Would appreciate if someone can help me out with this.

I'll solve my own (and others I'm sure) problem. The Appir iTouch iOS 4.1 .pdf manual was of no help as all it says is: "PC: Follow the instructions that came with your photo application." No help there.
When you connect your iPod Touch 4th gen via USB, you should see it in the My Computer list of hard drives as a Digital Camera. You can open it up and see the camera files. Note: This in not the Photos as in the ones you put on your iPod via iTunes. Repeat: You cannot use iTunes to get the pictures & videos you take to your computer via iTunes. Strange.
Also see Apple tech note: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1500 This is how to disable the popup that happens to many when you connect your iPod and Windows whats to know what application to run.
For me, I could not delete the files nor could I Drag & Drop (Copy / Paste) all the files from the iPod to my PC. It would stop transferring data after about 750 files. So I had to find a solution. I searched for programs that supported WIA protocol, which is how files are transferred.
I tried all of the apps at http://www.photo-freeware.net/transfer-tools.php and the only one that worked.
That was Cam2PC. One problem I encountered was that after transferring, it opened a Preview window. Unfortunately it doesn't do Quicktime, so when trying to display a thumbnail view of movies, it crashed. You can configure it not to open the preview window after transferring.
Another program to use is FastStone Image Viewer 4.2. No problems transferring or previewing. It doesn't show all files transferred when it opens it's preview window, notably Quicktime files. It does show screen dumps (.png) files. It is fast, small and so easy to use.
At last but not least, Nikon ViewNX 2 software. It transfers fast, has many options. Just what you would expect from a digital camera company. It previews Quicktime but not screen dumps. Downside: The program takes longer to load than the others.
So I'll be using FastStone Image Viewer 4.2 mostly. Hope the above helps out anyone that had the same problem as I did.
