Copying domain folder

Just curious....is it possible to copy a domain folder to another machine with a base WLS install (no domain) and have it work in a Windows environment? I assume things like a nodemanager service would have to be installed for the registry need (if nm service was needed) but should all else work okay?
Thanks

Thanks, it just seems much easier to do this than pack/unpack and domain templates. Is there any advantage/disadvantage, in doing one method over the other? Or certain scenarios when one is preferrable over the other?
Thanks

  • Can't find text files in iWeb domain folder uploaded to iDisk

I've just uploaded my iWeb domain folder to iDisk and unzipped it - I can see all the "extras" listed ( jpegs and movies and music), but none of the actual text pages. The unzipped Domain file divides into _MACOSX (which leads to "Content" and then - nothing), while Domain.sites2 leads to the extras. Can anyone suggest where I might find the actual text???

You would be better served to keep a backup copy of your Domain.sites2 file that's located in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on a flash drive. Keep it backed up each time you use iWeb with backup software that can make incremental backups, i.e. backup only those new or changed files.
I use Synk Pro which can be setup to make the update changes to as they are made or at intervals like Time Machine. All in the background. There are other backup apps that can do incremental backups. Go to MacUpdate.com and search for "backup" to get possible candidates.

  • I just tried to copy a folder to a pen drive from my mac. It transferred fine. I then ejected the pen drive then pulled it out. When I pulled it out it said it had not ejected correctly despite me just Doing this. The folder is now missing from both! Help

I just copied a folder from my desktop to my pen drive. It transferred fine. I then ejected the pen drive then pulled it out. On doing so it said it had not been ejected properly!!!!! The folder is now missing from my computer and the pen drive. Pulling my hair out please help!

When youi say Eject, the RAM copy of the Directory is written back to the drive. On a pen drive, this can take several seconds.
If you get too excited and don't wait those few seconds, the directory write will be incomplete, and the drive will lose its integrity or lose files or both.

  • HT1751 unable to copy iTunes folder from mac to external hard drive, says hard drive can't be modified

when attempting to copy itunes folder to external hard drive, response is unable to copy file, hard drive can't be modified. What does that mean and how to I use external HD to transfer itunes library to new PC?

The drive is probably formated as NTFS, and your Mac doesn't have an NTFS write driver installed. Why not transfer the folder over your network?

  • I need to make space on my Mac. If I copy a folder from iPhoto on to a hard drive, then delete it from iphoto then import it again, does it retain all my editing? It does not seem to retain Faces info and I have spent hours and days naming people :(

I need to make space on my Mac. If I copy a folder from iPhoto on to a hard drive, then delete it from iphoto then import it again, does it retain all my editing? It does not seem to retain Faces info and I have spent hours and days naming people

There is no way to export Faces information.
I'm not sure why you would do this:
If I copy a folder from iPhoto on to a hard drive, then delete it from iphoto then import it again,
If space is an issue then move the whole Library to an external drive:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

You can use the SPFolder.CopyTo method.
    public static void CopyFolder()
    SPFolder folder = null;
using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://basesmcdev2/sites/tester1"))
    using (SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb())
    folder = web.GetFolder("shared%20documents/newfolder");
    folder.CopyTo("tester4/newfolder");

How do you go about to copy a folder (with contents ;-) using JS. You can copy a file from one place to another, but there doesn't seem to be a similar function for copying a whole folder.

Create a new folder, rename it to the name you want, and copy all the files from the source folder.

  • File sharing - unable to copy photo folder

    Hi!
I'm using File Sharing to connect my iMac to my mother's iMac.
I'm trying to copy a folder called "Mom Photos" (sub-folder of the main Pictures folder) to my computer. I created a user name and password on her iMac that I use to login from my iMac. Once logged in, when I click on the "Mom Photos" folder and try to copy and paste it on my computer, I see the following error message: "The items on the Clipboard can't be pasted to this location. One or more of the items may have been deleted or are no longer available."
When I created my user name on her iMac, I set the privileges to "Read and Write."
If I open the "Mom Photos" folder and select all the individual sub-folders within, copy and paste them to a folder on my iMac, I see the following message: "One or more items can't be copied to "Pictures" because you don't have permission to read them, Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?"
    Thank you for any help!

Not being able to copy the folder itself would suggest that it has some other file, probably hidden, that is stopping the procedure. You could go up one level and perform the same action, but if this next level up is the Pictures folder then it might be best not to do this as the iPhoto library is also included within the Pictures folder.
One possible workaround would be to create yet another folder within the Pictures folder and then copy the "Mom Photos" folder inside this. Then when you do the Apply to Enclosed Items for this new folder, the "Mom's Photos" folder should now be available to copy.
If this still doesn't help then there is a Terminal command called change mode (chmod) that can be used to change the permissions on this folder. This would require to be on your mums iMac and to use her account, as you will need to authenticate to complete the task. It would be best if you can complete the operation without using Terminal but if using the GUI doesn't succeed then Terminal may be your next best option.

  • Where are my iWeb files located? My Domain folder is empty but the pages still open in iWeb.

I have a Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8. iWeb opens all my pages and the website is fine.  When I look for the page files so that i can edit them in Text Edit I cannot find them.
I have searched EVERY file folder etc. on my computer including the Domain folder which shows empty.
So my question is - Where are they and how do I access them?

Download and use  Find Any File  to search for ".sites".  FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't and if you have a second domain file on your HD FAF will find it.
If you want to access the HTML files of your website then you need to publish your website to a folder on your hard drive.  With iWeb 2 that's done with the File ➙ Publish to a Folder menu option.
With iWeb 3 that's done by clicking on the site folder in iWeb and selecting the folder you want to publish toi:

  • Cannot copy iTunes folder from Windows to Mac because of Permission

I have my iTunes library on a windows machine, running windows 7. The library is organized inside the iTunes folder.
I am trying to put this same iTunes onto my new macbook pro. I tried copying the folder to an external HD and plugging that into my mac. When I tried to just copy the iTunes folder to the Mac HD I got:
I messed around with the permissions in Windows, but I couldn't get it to change. I tried everything I could find in the security tab for the disk and the permissions on the folder.
I decided to try and see if iTunes could just do it itself. So I replaced it itunes library (which was blank) on my Mac with that of my windows. I then opened a song, and followed the promt to locate it. iTunes found all my songs (on the external HD) just as you would expect. Now I tried to consolidate to get everything over to the mac. About halfway through i got this error:
So SOME of the songs and apps and books copied over but only about half and now it won't go any further. I went back to windows and tried to mess with the HD secruities again, but nothing worked.
One more note: when I open the HD on my mac it says "You have read access only" in the security tab. I know every other thread on this like suggests changing that but there is nowhere for me to do that.
    Can anyone help me?

I then opened a song, and followed the promt to locate it. iTunes found all my songs (on the external HD) just as you would expect.
That's not what I would expect if you copied the entire /iTunes/ folder to the new computer.
    Try this...
    Open a Finder window.
    Select Users/yourusernname.
    Right click - get info.
Scroll to the bottom (Sharing & Permissions).
Make sure you can Read & Write.
Click the gear icon at bottom and select Apply to enclosed items.
    Let it finish.
    Delete the /Music/iTunes/ folder.
Then  copy the entire /iTunes/ folder from the external to /Music/ on the internal.

I am unable to copy a folder on mac to an external hdd or even to a usb

If the external drives are formatted for Windows (NTFS), you can't write to them natively on a Mac. Your options are (1) to back up and reformat the devices as FAT32 or ExFAT, or (2) to install third-party software that enables writing to an NTFS volume (not recommended.)

  • Can I copy store folder to use in another machine

I have installed new directory server on new machine and already add all users. Then I install messging server 6.0 on new machine. I want to migrate mail box to new server, can I copy store folder on old messaging server (6.0) to use on new server.

You can do an imsbackup/imsrestore. This will take care of everything. It's how I migrated from 5.1 to 5.2 on a new machine.
You could also try using tar and then running a reconstruct -m. In theory, that should work. But I haven't tested it.

  • Error copying production folder

Hello everyone. I'm hoping someone can help. The following query comes from a discussion forum I am on at work (school) and I thought someone here might be able to help. I actually don't know what the fellow is talking about so.... hopefully some of you will and will reply and I will be able to help him out. Here is his query: (thanks for your help)
We use four emacs for video editing. At the moment we just use iMovie and
things work fine, except that when I want to back up student work I
    receive
an error on trying to copy the production folder from its location in
    Movies
to our USB drive. Detaisla re as follows:
You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names
are too long or contain invalid characters for the destination. Do you
    want
to skip copying these items and continue copying the other items?
I usually quit the processes, go into the media folder and copy the files
over manually. It seems the error only appears when I try to copy the
folder. The copy of the folde ris created, some files are copied, then
    this
error. Obviously something Macish I have no idea about.
How do other schools back up their Mac iMovie productions?

    Hi Jenny,
two reasons for such an behavior...:
    a) iMovie cannot work with usb(2) connected drives... (usb cannot handle singles files that large)
    b) iMovie needs "MacOsExtended" drives, not FAT-formatted... what, for sure that usb drive is.... same here, the specific file struture of iM projects cannot be handled by such drives (you can format any drive to MOE with Disk Utility, but any data gets lost while that process!)
to back up iM projects, you need to have a firewire connected harddrive which is MacOsExtended formatted... in the next PC shop you get'em cheap, format with Disk Utility - Boom!Done...
school? I used slate&chalk to store school projects.........................
besides: I usually quit the processes, go into the media folder and copy the files over manually. ... sorry, but that is some dangerous, wrong usage of a Mac! iM has a very fragile file structure, you move whole project folders/iMovie packages, not the single media content, you damage projects that!... that "sysAdmin" risks the work of your scholars, he/she should read a Mac book... never let Windows Admins touch a Mac!! Macs don't need Admins at all ;-)))

  • Cluster with shared domain folder using OCFS2 and the domain /tmp folder

I've setup a cluster with two machines and one managed server on each machine. One of the machines also hosts the admin server.
Initially, both managed servers were running on the same machine. Everything worked well. When I move to having two machines, I didn't want to have to independently maintain the domain folder on each machine.
So I decided to setup a shared drive between the machines and use OCFS2 to share the domain folder between the two machines.
Everything started up fine, but when I deployed software to the server I would frequently (but not always) get this error:
[wldeploy] Target state: deploy failed on Cluster cluster-01
[wldeploy] weblogic.management.DeploymentException: [Deployer:149189]Attempt to operate 'deploy' on null BasicDeploymentMBean for deployment mylibrary#[email protected]. Operation can not be performed until server is restarted.
After looking around a bit on google I saw this issue:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11035_01/wls100/issues/known_resolved.html#CR279281
    which says
Some OS and NFS combinations result in deployment failures or configuration updates with an exception like:
weblogic.management.DeploymentException: Attempt to operate 'distribute' on null BasicDeploymentMBean
    Workaround or Solution:
    * Run statd() and lockd() processes on every NFS client that accesses a remote NFS volume.
    * If multiple servers that share the same domain root are started with different user Ids of same group, set the correct "umask" for the server processes so that a file created by one server can be opened for read/write by other servers without security exceptions.
Unfortunately, I wasn't running NFS, so the workaround didn't help me.
Through dump luck, I tried this:
I replaced the domainroot/tmp folder with a symbolic link to a folder on each machine's local filesystem. Following that change my deployments work everytime.
Does anyone know why this change worked? What is the purpose of the /tmp folder in a domain folder?
Are there any switches I could turn on to get more information about the exact error that causes the deployment mbean to come back null?

It may not be the same situation, but I had this "deployer:149189" error and it turned out to be mixing WLS 10.0 and 10.3 installations together in the same install directory and not being scrupulous about environment setup. I think the problem was caused by accidentally running a 10.0 domain with Java 1.6.
    Eoin.
