Copying DVD audio (only) into I-tunes

How do you copy the Audio content of a commerical DVD into I-tunes. Can you control the amount of compression?

You don't.
Commercial dvd's are encrypted to stop you from copying them. Breaking the encryption is illegal.

  • Dvd audio only

i am trying to convert dvd audio into a digital format so i can play the audio file in my itunes. i followed some posts which claimed i needed OSE x, and a52decX 0.25. the later program...turned into a .sit icon on the desktop which asks me how to open the program(which i dont know). i also have a folder from the osex program...which is a file with mpeg2 files in it. what do i do from here? please help, and let me know if there is another way of doin this.

A .sit file needs to be expanded first - Use Stuffit expander for that.
Regarding the second part of your question: Use OSeX to extract the audio part only. - Under normal conditions there should be .AC3 files as result. This files that need to be converted to a file format that will work on iTunes. For That I use "mAC3dec" to convert the AC3 to AIFF or MP3.

  • Why cant i copy/paste mps's into i-tunes folder?

i have a bunch of mp3's on my computer and i want to put them on my ipod.
i tried to copy the folders of the albums and paste them into the i-tunes folder with the rest of the albums that are on my ipod but the folders i past into itunes dont show up.
do i have to import the songs into itunes in order to get them to show up? this means i would have to burn a million cds and import them. there must be a better method.

If the songs are on your computer, just drag the folder the songs are in, into itunes windows, it should put all the songs onto your itunes, thus they will go onto your ipod when it updates.
    Hope this helps

  • Quick question about Creative DVD audio pla

    Hi all,
I loaded all the drivers and software that came with my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS. The kit came with a DVD audio sampler disc. When I put the DVD audio disc into my computer DVD ROM dri've, it automatically navigates to the Creative Audio DVD player. The only problem is that the "play" button is greyed out. It will not play the disc. It show in the staus window that the sampler disc is there and ready to go. I have tried every button but can not get to play.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks,

Now when I launch the DVD audio player and try to click on a button it just freezes up and have to end the program in task manager

  • Importing an Audio Book into iTunes

I can copy an audio book into iTunes and from there put it on my iPod. What I can't seem to do is import it as an audio BOOK rather than a collection of music. My understanding is that if it is tagged as a BOOK I will be able to go back to where I was in my listening/reading at the exact point, even if I have listened to music in the interim.

It's been covered here already, but take a look here:
    Converting CDs to iTunes Audiobooks
You can go back to where you left off if your iPod supports chapters, which older iPods to not (the 3rd-gen iPods and earlier don't; I'm not sure when chapter support was added).

  • Recording narration on tape - extracting audio only - workflow suggestions?

I have a bunch of students who are recording their narration tracks onto tape via a camcorder.
What is the best workflow to get these clips with audio only into iMovie 08?
Presently, we are capturing all the clips iMovie 08, then using Movie Tools Convert to AIFF droplet, dragging the aiff's into iTunes and accessing them in iMovie from iTunes.
Alternative suggestions? There are lots of narration clips and lots of students working in a noisy computer lab, so direct recording is really not a good choice here.
Don't have QTPro on the computers.
If I'm doing the CMD+Shift drag technique correctly, you must drop the clip ONTO an existing clip to get the audio separated from the video.
There is no way to extract the audio any other way in iMovie 08?
Is the better workflow to install iMovie 06 and use it's Extract Audio feature?
There would still be several steps to getting the extracted tracks into iMovie 08.
thanks for any suggestions or pointers

the 'Export with Quicktime..' option allows you to choose 'Aiff' as option.. that exports the audio-only of any project..
so, one option of workflow is: import camcorder-narrations into an Event, create Project, Export As Aiff, (process in Garageband), and the usage of iTunes is in my opinion a very clever way.. (using Playlist to organize audio before usage in iM) ..
another way is, to do all audio work in Garageband.. which is the intended workflow in iLife08.. edit in iM08, 'share', and do all audio in GB ..
consider to install iMHD6 on one computer as 'audio workstation': import tapes into an iMHD6 project, Export as Aiff, share those audio files to other Macs (LAN, usb sticks) - a good naming scheme is of paramount importance
.. There would still be several steps to getting the extracted tracks into iMovie 08.
    basicly: yes.

  • Recording audio ONLY from a DVD into iTunes

Hi, I'm new to macs having just got an iMac G5. So far I love it and it's loads better than any windows based system I've had. I'm wondering if it is possible to record the audio only from some music DVD's I have into iTunes...can anyone help or is this simply not possible?

Audio Hijack also creates large files, size-wise. This can be a problem if you are working with putting music on audio cds. Google "ripdifferent" for a site that discusses various methods of legally backing up legally purchased media. The gray area here actually has to do with breaking encryption- under US copyright law, users have always been allowed to make a single back-up (Fair Use) of any recorded media they have purchased. It is possible that media companies are, themselves, in violation of copyright law by making it difficult to make said backups by encrypting their media. Also, copying (ripping, recording, etc.) any DVD in any way would seem to be covered by the warning at the start of all DVDs (including soundtracks), which would include Audio Hijack, for instance. This all came about when the digital revolution made it possible to create exact copies. Back in the day, copying an LP to cassette, for instance, was not considered a problem, because you would lose a generation. BTW, ripping music DVDs can be problematic, as they are mastered differently than are "movies," and some Mac ripping programs have difficulty with them. Proceed cautiously and consider legal ramifications, but also consider retaining YOUR legal rights as well.

  • I want to get audio only file from DVD-R. Please help.

I hope this is the right place to ask.
I have just completed copying a radio play from VHS to DVD-R.
(Recorded off air from high quality BBC FM onto VHS sound only in 1993)
The copy is a success inasmuch as I now have the high quality copy I desire and I can play it (via the DVD player) through the hi-fi with TV turned off.
However, I want to go further and load the DVD-R into my iMac and make an Audio only file of the soundtrack for use on my iPod for instance.
I have no idea if this is possible with the standard iDVD (or other software) on my iMac or how to even start.
I guess it would be equivalent to loading a standard DVD movie and making a file of just the soundtrack.
    Has anyone any ideas please?
    Thankyou.

If you used your computer as part of the VHS to DVD process, then you'll have a digital audio file that we can find, but I'm guessing you used a VHS to DVD standalone recorder. If so, you can use some free software called MPEG Streamclip:
    - insert your DVD, and Quit from the DVD Player if it starts automatically.
    - start MPEG Streamclip and open the DVD; then open the Video TS folder and open the first of the .VOB files (repeat this step until you find the file you're interested in).
    - use the Export to AIFF option and you'll have the audio file.
    - you'll be able to bring this file into iTunes, burn it to CD, etc.

  • Audio-only seq's edited into into timeline show as unrendered, wont render

I'm using FCP to do simple audio edit assembly projects.
One main question and two followups.
I have some audio only sequences in the bin. When I drag one to the timeline directly, or edit it into the timeline by dragging to viewer, or any of the other ways to get it into the timeline, it comes in as unrendered, with the red bar at top, although it was rendered when I edited it into the tl.
When I try to render, it wont render, and just plays with the beep beep beep sound. However, scrolling the clip in the timeline, I can hear quietly, the audio scrubbing.
Only way I could work around was to pull a sequence to the timeline, double click it, which then opened the original sequence again in the tl. I then was able to highlight and copy the material, switch back to the sequence I was assembling, and paste the audio in.
Any suggestions as to why the sequences edit into the timeline unrendered, and how to bring them in so they are rendered, or how to render them?
    Followup question 1:
What's the significance of some clips in the timeline display their color as light green, while others have the color light blue? And why do some clips show audio waveforms while others do not?
    Followup 2:
I recently lost the media files to some audio-only sequences. However, when I went to play the sequences, they played, even though the media files were gone. Was the sequence playing using the Audio Render files? I am guessing that when I altered the level of the audio, new files were created in the Audio Render bin, and the sequence was playing off those render files. Question 1 above doesn't involve lost media files, for that situation all media files were in tact.

    1. Depending on what you're trying to accomplish, you might be best off opening the sequence you want clips from and copy/paste those clips into your newer sequence...this will require rendering.
AFAIK, the only way to avoid re-rendering is to duplicate the sequence in the browser (retains renders)...but from what you describe, you're trying to integrate previous sequences into newer ones, so may not benefit you.
You could duplicate the sequence 'A', then build upon that in sequence 'B'...again, really depends on your end goal.
    2. The reason you're getting different colors in the top render bar, is the different levels of rendering FCP is seeing as needing to be done. Go to your Sequence Menu and check off all available types of renders. Now when you render, it should render everything.
    3. Yes, you're probably getting playback from already rendered files. If you delete all renders with Render Manager in the Tools menu, you'll likely lose them.

  • Voice Memos won't copy into i Tunes

If I plug in my nano latest model to i Tunes I find that the ipod lists 10 voice memo's. If I look at the i Tunes library it only shows 1 voice memo & this is listed as being on a playlist. I want to get them all into iTunes. If I right click on the the ipods voice memo tab & click sync all I get is a message about replacing all of my picture & no mention of no voice memos.
How do I get these memo's into I Tunes or at least onto my PC?

  • Trying to Paste Attributes - AUDIO ONLY. I copy the clip I want - then click Paste Attributes - previously a box appeared with options - now nothing appears.  Only happening with AUDIO attributes.  Anyone else experiencing this?

I am trying to Paste Attributes of AUDIO ONLY - from one clip to another audio clip.  These are the settings for the VOICE OVER on my 15 minute project.  This has worked before.  However now I copy the clip I want o use the attributes from - then I selct PASTE ATTRIBUTES. In the past a new dialogue box would appear and offer me the opportunity to select the attributes or effects I wanted to COPY and PASTE.  Hoever now - there is NOTHING.
I also want to REMOVE the ATTRIBUTES from 287 clips - but apparently I can only do this one at a time?  That seems like the most ridiculous thing in the world.  Certainly this can't be true?  Is there no way to remove ALL Attrributes from all of the clips at the same time?
    Anyone?  Anyone?

I cannot reproduce this. It is working as expected here: select a clip, copy, select another clip (or clips), paste attributes, and I get the usual window - this works for audio only clips as well as other clips.
I suggest you try deleting FCP X preferences with Preference Manager and try again.

Select the clips you want, and delete the effects in the Inspector by selecting and hitting the delete key.

  • Best way to play Audio only on a DVD with video?

I have a Meditavie DVD i am making with both video and Audio combined....and i want to make some tracks that are just Audio only
for close eye Meditations. ( i dont want to have to add a CD with the DVD for just Audio)
I made one years ago and just used black as the video output track.
Is there a way to save space and just have the audio track play?
And if so how might i do it and also link to the DVD menu?
    Thanks for any help!
    Soshman

Below is what I wrong before I tested the obvious. Just "import as timeline" the audio only (make sure there is no m2v with the same name); Encore happily builds a disk with black. Mediinfo shows the video stream, but it appears to be at a very low datarate. So, give it a try.  I did not burn a disk; just build to a folder and used a software player.
Other options: Encore slideshows have odd problems, I'd play with making a single slide (just black, right?) slideshow, maybe set to manual advance with no advance - or a very long duration to match the audio length.
If an m2v works better for whatever reason, Encore has a minimum bitrate, I think around 2.x or 1.x. So I would try exporting  from Premiere,10 seconds of black video using CBR 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 and see if it matters.

  • Only audio inserted into timeline

    FCX 10.1.3
    Mac Pro 2 x 2.93 6-Core Intel Xeon
    OSX 10.9.5
    32GB Ram
    ATI Radeon HD 5770
I have a pretty severe problem with FCPX.  All this just started this morning.  When inserting footage from my event into the timeline, it only brings in the audio portion even though the clip is A/V media.  I know that shift+1 should change the source media option to all, but it doesn't work.  I've tried changing the source media import option on the bar and in the menus and it won't select the all or video only option.  They aren't greyed out or anything, it just won't move the check mark off of audio only.  I can insert stills and media that don't have an audio track fine.  I've reset my prefs and restarted my computer several times.  On a possibly unrelated note, on one of my restarts it took me to the grey screen of death(with all the languages) that forced a restart.  Could this be a logic board issue?

TThat could be a hardware problem. Start by posting some screen shots of what's happening in FCP.
