Copying DVD from Previous FCE Project

I am trying to easily copy a project I created in FCE. Originally I burned it to DVD using iDVD but saved nothing of the project, thinking I would never need it again. Now people want copies. I went to the iDVD discussion forum and the following document was suggested, "How to copy previously-burned DVD-R video discs,"
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2059?viewlocale=en_US
The article, even though it was very detailed and had illustrations, wasn't the way it went for me. Some of the instructions were confusing and didn't match what I saw on my monitor, but I just kept going, trying this and that, hoping it would work out, which it did. Now I want to burn more. I know disk utility will do the trick but need instructions that are more accurate.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Lee

I did try copying the disk again. This time it didn't work. It looked like it was burning OK and the disk even has the same deep blue burn band as the original, but when I tried playing it in two DVD players it said "Disk Error." I'm wondering if I should get Toast or some other reliable copying program. The problem I am having using Disk Utility is that the instructions in the threads suggested don't match what I am seeing. I hate to keep wasting printable disks.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
iDVD will convert HDV content to SD format, with
letterbox at top and bottom, for a 720 X 480 display
(SD). There is an option for wide screen project in
iDVD, but there are some problems ( squashed image on
DVD). Search this forum and iDVD one to see.
Toast 7 tends to be more reliable with wide screen
movie. You get more option to select and the results
    are constant.
ffmpegX, DVDedit and visualhub are applications that
allows to tweak more parameters for your DVD
    content.
A wide screen DVD needs a wide screen monitor... that
why many persons do prefer to convert to SD with
    black bars.

    Thanks Michel,
That is why I prefer Toast 7 to iDVD. For HVD context I rather downsample to SD during capture, edit in SD and burn with Toast.
I guess we will be stuck with that worflow until Apple comes out with a BluRay
burner on the Tower Macs Dual Core for any HVD context.
Do you know of any other way?

  • Is there a way to copy & past an entire FCE project to external dr

Is there a way to copy & paste an entire FCE project to an external drive so that I can delete the project on my hard drive and begin another project?

You need to keep the following:
Your *FCE project file* (normally located in your Final Cut Express Documents folder)
Your *captured clips* (normally located in your Final Cut Express Documents / Capture Scratch folder)
Any other *source media files* - photos, sound files, etc. - that you used in your project.
You can copy the files to any folder you wish to copy them to.
There is no need to keep any of the render files. You can always rerender your project as long as you have your FCE project file and the source clips & other source media that you used in the project.

  • Making a DVD from my FCE 4 project?

    Hi,
I occasionally need to make a DVD of my finished FCE 4 projects, and have been doing it by sharing the finished .mov file between iMovie and iDVD. This process seems cumbersome (at least, the way I do it) and it appears that the .mov file is copied during the "share" process. This seems redundant and, of course, eats up drive space. I'm wondering if there's a much simpler way to somehow create a DVD more directly from FCE 4. (Can I import the finished .mov file into iDVD without going through iMovie and "sharing" (i.e. copying) the .mov file.
In other words, I'd like to know the easiest way to create a DVD of my FCE 4 project. Any suggestions? Thanks very much.
    Vic

Thanks, Tom. I'm guessing it needs to be exported from FCE 4 as a stand-alone .mov file? ...and then I won't need to go through iMovie to "share" the file?

  • Easiest way to produce NTSC DVD from PAL encore project?

I have a PAL Encore project with 25fps assets and subtitles. What's the easiest way to make an NTSC DVD from this project? Encore won't let me edit the quality settings to change from NTSC to PAL. These settings are greyed out. I take it they are dictated by the assets. Can anyone suggest how to make an NTSC project easily from this Encore project? I don't want to go back to the original footage. I want to just convert it from these Mpeg-2 files in the Encore project.
Any help would be much appreciated.

What Richard said. I'll add three things.
Encore won't let me edit the quality settings to change from NTSC to PAL. These settings are greyed out. I take it they are dictated by the assets.
They are dictated by your selections when you created the project. And NTSC vs PAL are not settings that can be changed in the project settings once created.
Regarding reusing menus. The files accessed by the Encore library for DVD projects are different for NTSC vs PAL. They have NTSC or PAL in the filename, but you don't see this from inside Encore. (They do not vary for Bluray menus.) You can take your NTSC project menus, "save as file," and then "import as menu" into a new PAL project. They will be the "wrong" pixel size and aspect ratio, but Encore may correct the par. I have never tried this. But if you get oddities doing it this way, in the new PAL project, add a PAL menu, edit in photoshop, and copy the button groups and such from the NTSC version of the menu to the PAL menu. That might work.
What I see in most of these "convert PAL from NTSC" threads is that virtually all NTSC disks play on current PAL equipment. Many users asking your question decide not to convert. that is especially true, because Richard's "export as NTSC" is not as simple as it seems.

  • Making a DVD from FCP X project

A few projects ago, I could render a movie for DVD from FCP X onto a DVD to burn.  Then, it would be working for hours and hours and never finish.. a day later, it wasn't finished.  Can't make one since.
What could be the problem? I s some part of the process too big for my hardware or software?  Can I change something to allow it to work again?
Any ideas?  Perhaps something is set wrong?
    Thank you for any suggestions.

    What version are you running?
Do you get a Publishing Error -29?

  • Copy opportunity from previous expired organization

    Hi,
Our salesperson have requirement to create opportunity from previous created ones, so we use opportunity copy function, but I found there has some problems when the oppts created previously contain expired organization data. For example, if the salesperson was in sales office A and he created oppt 1, now he was assigned to sales office B and he want to copy from oppt 1. As sales area A is invalid now, he will not able to save that, in our scenario, salesperson have no auth to change their org data, so how can we let salesperson copy opportunity with latest organization data? Is it required enhancement? If so, could you please tell me which component to enhance and how to do that? Thank you very much!
    Best Regards,
    Jeff

    Hi Ganesh,
Thank you very much! It works. I firstly register the copying routine thru IMG: CRM->Transactions->Basic Settings->Copying control for Bus Trans->Define copying control for transaction types. Then implement the BADI you mentioned with the registered copying routine.

  • Copying dvd from different region

I wanted to play a dvd on my macbook but it is a different region zone (2). I copied the movie to my hardrive using mactheripper.
I still could not get the movie to start by choosing the video_ts file using the mac dvd player. Then I downloaded the program matinee and it tells me that there was an error when attempting to start the movie.
Has anyone else out there experienced similar problems when trying to do this?
Thanks in advance for any help

    dobes918...
If you use VLC on a MacBook, VLC can only read DVDs from regions for which the DVD drive has been set. Older PowerBook models can use VLC to read DVDs from any region regardless of the DVD drive settings, but not the newer Intel Macs.
Also, gligeen is looking for a region-free recorder, not just a region-free player. It's possible to get a high-quality DVD recorder whose firmware can be flashed to make it region-free. According to the folks over at the MTR forums (http://www.ripdifferent.com/phpbb2/index.php), the Pioneer 111-D (street price around $40) and a firewire enclosure (another $4)0 to hold the drive is the way to go.
Pioneer drives tend to be of very good quality.

What is the proper way to copy a selected piece of media from a previous iDVD I made? (Unfortunately I don't have the original files just an iDVD disc.)

    Hi Antony,
sure you can, but you will realize a (dramatic) loss of quality, DVD is normally end-of-the-road, playback only:
get for 20$ the Apple mpeg2 plugin
and for free the tool Streamclip
    http://danslagle.com/mac/iMovie/tips_tricks/6010.shtml
    http://danslagle.com/mac/iMovie/tips_tricks/6018.shtml
Streamclip allows you to export just parts of a DVD...
    hope I could be helpful

  • Make a "best of" DVD from other iDVD projects

I'm archiving old family-movie VHS tapes into iMovie, and then burning them with iDVD. No fancy menus, chapters, or effects. Once I am finished and have all the iDVD's, can I get video clips from them back into iMovie to make a single movie with the best scenes? Thanks

    Hi Gary
My advice would be as follows:
During sampling (from VHS) and producing DVD disks. Collect those best
moments as full quality QuickTime clips on eg. an external (FW and Mac
    OS Extended formatted) hard disk.
Then when ready assemble the most memorable moment DVD disk as a
    full quality project.
To go from Your DVD disks back to be able to edit in eg. iMovie is not
stright forward and You lose quality.
    - To go back You need either to:
    • Copy to a new miniDV tape via a stand alone DVD-player - or
    • Use programs like Roxio Toast™ or MPEG-Stream + buy the Apple MPEG2-component
    Tedious and You lose quality.
First suggestion - is my main advice !

  • Trying to Create DVD from Blu-Ray Project

I'm a fairly new user to Encore CS4.   I was able to successfully create a Blu-Ray project using HD video - the actual video is a little over 3 hours.   It took about 30 hours for the project to transcode and burn.   I'm now trying to take that same project and created a single layer DVD.   I'm really struggling with this even though the software says I should be able to do this.    So I set all my settings up to create the DVD and started the process.   It was trancoding the video for 6 straight days!!!!!    When it finally got finished with the transcoding process I got an error that said this aspect ration was not supported by DVD!!!   So I'm confused at what I'm doing wrong.   First, I don't think the transcoding process should be taking that long.   Second, if the aspect ration is not correct, could it tell me that before it spends 6 days transcoding the video?    Third, I'm trying to burn the DVD using the same 16:6 widescreen aspect ratio, so I'm not sure why it's telling me the aspect ratio is not correct.    But what frustrates me the most is that it took wasted days before the software told me it didn't like the aspect ratio.
I know there's products on the market that will basically copy a Blu Ray to a DVD and are supposed to do that in something like 4 -5 hours.  Why on earth would Encore be taking 6 days to transcode my video.
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas please let me know.
    Thanks!

Thanks, I'll try these suggestions next.  I had found a post from "janaiott" suggesting to select "interpret footage" then choose "conform to SD NTSC Widescreen".   They said that worked for them.   This post was titled "Use the same project to export to both BR and DVD?"
I tried that and restarted the build.  The video transcoding went much quicker - instead of running for 6 days it finished in 2 days.   However, at the end of the transcode process I once again recieved the aspect ratio error.   My exact error is:
PGD "Sequence 01/Band.prproj" has an error at 88.8888s.  The aspect ratio of this file is not supported by DVD. - PGC info:  Sequence 01/Band.prproj =Bpgc, time=88.8888s.
I'm still just baffled why Encore can't be smart enough to tell me it doesn't like what I'm doing before it spends all that time - what a waste of time!  I really don't mind waiting 2 days as long it works
If anyone else has any suggestions, please post - but I will move on to the next suggestion and see what happens.  Just too bad it will take at least 2 days to know whether it works or not

  • DVD from previously prepared files - fails

I am trying to make a DVD of a project that I did in Sony Vegas Pro on my PC. I have made hundreds of DVD's on the PC by opening Nero and burning the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS files to the DVD.
I have a week old MBP and am a Mac Newbie.
When I do this with XP to my Sony DVD burner, it usually takes about 15 minutes a disk for a 115 min project.
On the MBP, it took almost 2 hours to burn and over an hour to verify.
What is up with this? Surely I am doing something drastically wrong?
Why is it taking so long? The OS reported that the disk was burnable at 8x, should have taken 15 minutes like my PC does.
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Kirk

    Hi Srikishan,
I have done as you asked.
In the new kernel files directory the disp+work.exe -version gives me 154.
I then copy & paste the kernel files into \usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\run. I then run dispwork.exe -version on the dispwork.exe in \usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\run, and once again I get version 154.
When I restart the services and SAP in MMC, I get a funny message at first when looking at the process list. It says: sapcpe.exe    Executable copy.
When I run dispwork.exe -version now on the dispwork.exe in \usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\run I get the old kernel version, 80.
How can this be, and do you have any idea about what I have to do?
Should I restart the server after I have updated the kernel files, but before I start SAP, or can this cause problems?
    Regards,
    Thomas
