Copying from Nano to itunes

OK help. I have an Ipod and Nano. I lost my computer and realpced it. I connected my ipod and synched it, lost 8 days worth of music! I have 5 of the 8 in my Nano and don't want to lose it also. How can I get the Nano music into iTunes safely and lose what's left. Any suggestions?

If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

If you failed to maintain a backup copy, then you would have to import the disks again.

    Hello,
Before you do anything, please download and install the following 3rd software, uses it to copy the music from your Nano to the iTunes on your computer

Once it has been completed, do a Restore for your Nano, your iTunes will ask you to register your Nano with it.

  • How can I transfer songs from nano to itunes library?

I initially acquired songs from my father's cd's and computer. Came home, set up itunes here and want to transfer my dad's songs into itunes. Help! Thank you!

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

  • Transfer music files from Nano to iTunes/hard drive ...

I hope someone can help me ... my hard drive crashed recently so I lost all of my music files that were on iTunes because I did not back them up (smart, huh?). Fortunently, I do have most of my music on my Nano. I am trying to transfer all of the music files from the Nano to iTunes. I tried dragging the files, but that doesn't work. Does anyone know of another technique to use in order to accomplish this? Any help will be appreciated :)

  • How to copy from iPod to iTunes without having old iTunes version?

I have a first generation iPod nano. The songs on this were loaded from an old windows based desktop which has long since passed on. I want to copy the songs from this iPod into itunes on a brand new apple MacBook. Can I do this? All the forums I seem to refer to require iTunes working on the old computer, which I do not have.

  • Music Transfer from Nano to iTunes?

I have music on my Nano that was lost when we lost our computer in a flood (I know...back up....too late now!). I want to get my music from the Nano into the new library. I can not do this. • Can I copy from ipod into itunes?

I had my ipod library on a computer that had to be rebuilt and it couldn't be saved. This means that I only have my library on my ipod. Is there any way of syncing it with my laptop without wiping everything off or having to reload thousands of songs into itunes from CD's?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • From nano to itunes?

Is it possible to take music from my friend's ipod and put it on my computer so that I can transfer some of the songs to my ipod? or directly transfer it to my ipod? Thanks for any help!

    Cristy,
It is illegal to take your friends music from their ipod and transfer it to yours unless you own a legal copy of the songs in question. If you do there are a few 3rd party programs that will help you accomplish this. This functionality is not built into the iPod or iTunes for the very reason that they want to deter people from illegally sharing music. Good luck.

  • Apps no longer copy from phone to itunes

Has anyone else seen this? I downloaded a few apps while on the go on to my iphone 3g. When I get home and try to sync again the apps never copy back into iTunes. Anyone have any ideas?

I had that problem too. If you right-click your phone when it's connected to iTunes there's something about resetting questions that it asked that you selected not to be shown again. I don't have my phone connected so I can't remember the exact wording. After I reset that I then did a sync and it asked if I wanted the apps copied into iTunes.

  • Copying from Pages to iTunes

I created a document in Pages on my iPad. Then used Tools menu in Pages to transfer it to iTunes. However , darned if I can find it in iTunes now. Where is it hiding?
I tried resaving it and get a message asking if I want to replace the copy already there, so I know it must have moved!

Are you looking in the File Sharing Apps Window in the Apps tab of iTunes while the iPad is connected to the computer and with iTunes running? click on Pages in that window and all of the documents that you sent to iTunes will show up in the documents window on the right.
If you don't see it right away - assuming that you did sync the iPad after you used the "send to iTunes" command in Pages - quit iTunes and then connect again and the document should appear.
