Copying iDVD back to computer from DVD

I recently burned iDVD to a DVD because I had hardly any space on my hard drive. Now i've put a new hard drive in my ibook and I'm ready to copy iDVD back to my computer. The problem I am having is that when I try to copy it back, it comes up with an error saying: "The alias "AVCVideoServices" cannot be copied to the destination, perhaps because the destination does not support this type of alias."
Anyone know why this is, or any way to fix the problem?
Thanks,
Zeb

OK... I fixed the problem, though it was very time consuming. First I tried copying the iDVD app to my computer, and while it still wouldn't copy, it did leave the iDVD.app, just without any contents. So from there, I opened package contents, and copied everything but the frameworks folder (where the alias was). After that, I copied the frameworks folder, and it left an empty folder. Then I did the same with all folders inside that. Finally, I copied everything in those folders but the aliases. Confusing huh? Well... I got it to work anyhow, and thats all that matters. Sorry for anyone who has this problem (I'm sure not many, if any, do) if my explaination is not very clear.

Is there a way to copy or back up contacts from my Ipod touch without using Itunes?

Are you sure that you can transfer contacts from the iPod to Skydrive?
I would try the links that I previusly provided and try to get iTunes to see the iPOd so you can do everthing right.
If you find a computer that can see the iPOd yu can update the iPod on that computer.  See:
iOS 5: Updating your device to iOS 5
Yu can make that your suncing computer by -
    - Transfering iTunes purchases:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Connect the iPod and make a backup by right clicking on the iPOd under Dvices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore from that backup. That will also update the iPod.

  • Move music back to computer from DAP JUKE

    Hi,
A quick question regarding moving music back to the computer from my old DAP Jukebox. How do I do it's
The "Transfer" button doesn't highlight when?I try using Playcenter 2.0.
I had this problem before a while ago and I think Catherina gave the solution straight away. (But I can't remember what it was.)

I don't have PlayCenter 2, but do have PlayCenter 3 installed, but the functionality is the same if I recall. Click on the Rip/Transfer button on the side of the box to open the second window. Select the device of origin (Nomad Jukebox) in one window, select your target (e.g. My Computer) in the other window. Highlight the tracks that you want to transfer and this should light up the Transfer button. If you have the drivers installed for your device, along with the MediaSource plugins where applicable, PlayCenter will actually recognize players that were released long after the program had been discontinued. I happened to connect a Zen Micro to get the details for this response and it was immediately recognized.

  • Moving photos back into iphoto from DVD back-up

I have lost several hundred photos (through my own error). I have them backed up on DVD in the iphoto format. Iphoto recognizes the disk when I put it in.
I'm wondering the best way to transfer these photos back onto my computer and into my iphoto library. Drag and drop?
The thumbnails of the lost photos remain in my iphoto on my computer so I was thinking of rebuilding the thumbnail cache (which iphoto sometimes prompts me to do when I open it) before I import. (how would I do this?)
    Thanks!

Just drag the disk image onto the Library icon in the left hand pane and your photos will be imported into the library in the Events and albums that they were in when you backed them up.
But first I would delete those "damaged" photos from the library and then import from the disk. Use iPhoto's delete method so that you delete not only the thumbnail files but any related modified files. That will get rid of a lot of flotsam in the library.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Help on backing up computer to dvd..

i need a little coaching on how to back up my computer with a dvd. any help would be appreciated.

There are several different ways to backup files. Any of the files inside your "home" folder (the one that contains your Documents, Library, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders) could be lost if something happened to your hard drive. You could re-install Mac OS X and the additional software from your install disks, but you'll want to back up the files in your home folder or you might lose them.
First, you'll have to have a back up plan. How much space does your home folder take up now? You can "Get Info" from the File menu after highlighting your home folder in any Finder window (even the shortcut on the side bar of a Finder window). If it takes up less than 700MB, you'll be able to back everything up to one CD. If it takes up less than 4.3GB, then you'll be able to back up everything to one DVD. If your home folder takes up more than 4.3GB, you may have to back up the individual folders (Documents or Library, for example) to individual CDs or DVDs depending on how big they are. Before we can recommend a technique for backing your files up, we'll have to know how many CDs or DVDs you're going to need and how we're going to distribute the files across the disks.
Usually, it's as simple as inserting a blank CD or DVD and giving it a name and the dragging the folder full of files you want to burn into the disk icon on your Desktop. Then you can burn the disk from the File menu. Also, iPhoto can make CD or DVD backups of your pictures for you. iTunes 7 now will help you make CD or DVD backups of your music files as well. If you're a member of .Mac, one benefit includes a Backup application that will help you schedule backups to CDs, DVDs, your iDisk or hard drives.
If you want to make a complete, bootable backup of ALL the files, including the System folder, you will probably need a FireWire or USB hard drive. You can use Apple's Disk Utility to make a complete backup to an external hard drive all at once or there are third party utilities to make incremental backups (only the files that have changed since the previous backup).

  • Using Lifeblog to copy images to my computer from ...

Help please and sorry if this has been posted before (new to this forum).
At the moment I can't transfer images from my N95 to my computer via Lifeblog. Each time I try I'm told there's a system error. There's no issue about space on either the phone or the computer so it's a mystery to me.
Has anyone out there had this problem and resolved it?

I have had this problem also. It was copying fine until I received a phone call during the copying process which disrupted it. Now every time I try to copy from the phone, I get system error message on the phone and no items were copied message on my PC. I am trying to copy all content to my lifeblog not just images.
I hope Nokia answer this soon. It's 7 months since this question was asked! Great response time!

  • Purchased content won't sync back to computer from Apple TV

I purchase quite a bit of content on my Apple TV. Most of the time the tv shows sync back to the computer after download to the Apple TV without any problems. Recently though many of my shows are stranded on the Apple TV. This has also happened for the 3 movies I have purchased from the Apple TV.
Anyone have a similar problem and could suggest a solution?

Originally, for the first 9 months of ownership, everything i purchased on the apple tv would automatically sync back to the main itunes computer. Then I purchased a few movies and they never synced to the computer. Continued to purchase tv shows with those successfully syncing to computer. In the last month though many of the tv shows are stranded on the apple tv with no syncing back to the computer. Tried purchasing some free shows (newly released stuff today after the itunes update) and they seem to be syncing back to the computer okay. So I have some movies and lots of tv shows that are in limbo on the apple tv and have never been synced back to the computer.
Even stranger my apple tv doesn't show up on the sidebar under devices after updating itunes today. It still shows under devices in the preferences window and i see the library on the apple tv. Unfortunately with the stranded content i am afraid to break the connection and reestablish for fear of losing the content that is on the apple tv but not on the computer.
Would be nice to get a little insight on this from apple since it seems this question shows up many times.

  • Copying MP4 videos onto computer from iPod?

I use Podplus to copy mp3 format songs from my ipod, it's a very handy program. Unfortunately, it can't recognize or copy mp4 video files onto my computer. Is there a program out there that will?

On it's homepage iPodCopy lists transfer of videos as one of it's capabilities, I'm sure there are others as well. If you put "transfer video from iPod to iTunes" into your favourite search engine you'll probably get hits for a few more: iPodCopy
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod

How can I burn a copy of my project to a DVD . I do not have IDVD because I have the Lion OS. I did purchase Wondershare for burning but it will not load the iMovie events or projects

There is no proper substitute for iDVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac?

    UPDATE & ADDENDUM:
But even though you can still buy iLife 11 that includes iDVD 7 from Amazon, Apple now make it difficult to install:
Poster jhb21939 posted this in another thread:
“when I attempted to load iDVD into a new iMac. A notice came up on the screen stating that the 'Authorisation Licence' had expired on 25 March this year (2012).
I contacted the Apple support team and eventually, I was told that the Licence had been withdrawn and could no longer be used.”
In other words Apple are now so adamant that we don’t use iDVD that they have tried to make it impossible to install.
In response, Old Toad posted this solution:
“You can still use it one all of your Macs.  If you get an invalid certificate message just set your Mac's clock to sometime before early 2011 and run the installer.  After you're done reset the time back to the correct time.” He added this comment:
“It began after iDVD and iWeb were discontued and they were dropped from the Apple Store. All I can think of is the certificate was set to expire after a certain time period after the intitial iLife disc was released.
I've been able to use the installer even without setting back the date.  I just clicked on the Continue button and it would work as expected.  For some it would not continue unless the date was set back.”
The latest anorexic iMacs just announced do not even include a CD drive! Proof positive that Apple virtually prohibit the use of DVDs - although the newly announced Mac Minis do include a Superdrive.
Yet, they still include iMovie! Heaven alone knows or understands what you are supposed to do with your newly edited masterpiece - except make a low quality version for YouTube?

  • Convert DVDs (make on iDVD) back to DV format for iMovie

I have quite a collection of DVDs of home video all made on iMovie and iDVD.
Not thinking to well, i figured this was the be all and end all solution to managing my home videos. As a result i no longer have the original film from which the video was taken.
The issue now is that i want to reuse some clips from these DVDs. And with the new iMovie, keep all your video in a library (which now makes sense), i would like to convert my DVDs back to a digital format.
I have used handbrake in the past to import the video as mpg4.
This is not ideal. Making DVD = DV to mpg1. Hanbrake from DVD = mpg4. Editing mpg4 in imove *****. reburn to DVD = mpg1. The quality by now is super bad.
Does anybody have a better solution to this issue. Can i import to a DV format ... ?
(PS The tabs in this text editor looks strangely like they are from Windows XP)

DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and made for any processing as editing...
for using the iLife apps, you have to convert'em first, in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
    VisualHub (23.32$)
    Drop2DV (free)
    Cinematize >60$
    Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
Toast 6/7/8 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter

  • Is there a way to go move a project from IDVD back to IMOVIE?

This is clearly a newbie question:
I know how to share from Imovie to IDVD and I made my IDVD project, but now I don't know if I still have the IMovie I originally transferred.
Is there a way to move a project from IDVD back to IMOVIE?

First, go back to iMovie and look under both iMovie Events and Projects to see if you still have the movie. Double check by looking in Finder to where you save the movies you create. For instance, if you save to Movies, there should be folders in there for iMovie Events and iMovie Projects. If they are there, you should see them in the lists in iMovie.
If not, I don't think there is a way you can move it directly back to iMovie. Is there a real need to have it in iMovie? Unless you are going to change the movie, there is not a need to keep it there. If, for some reason you want it there, however, you can go thru the process of copying the DVD back to the hard drive using MPEG Streamclip, and exporting it to Quicktime. Then open iMovie, and bring it back into iMovie.
