Copying itunes library from Mac to Windows over Local Network

I am a recent switcher. When I first got my MacBook I connected my Windows formatted iPod to the MacBook to transfer my purchased iTunes music, and everything worked fine.
Now I want to transfer the iTunes music folder from my Mac to a PC (both Vista and XP) over my local network. However, when I try to do this I get the following error message:
Error 0x800700FE: The specified extended attribute name was invalid.
I get the same error message if I try to transfer the individual music folders (eg Oasis).
I have no trouble transferring the folders for song/albums that I have subsequently downloaded to the Mac from iTunes. I only have the problem with the music I originally transferred from the iPod.
I have been trying to research extended attributes to see if I can edit this, but it all goes over my head. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
i'm also a new Mac user (Vista did the trick , and i found this article on the Apple support website.
Below information can also be used to do the inverse... Mac to PC.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302392
It explains how to do a backup to CD/DVD. When you have a large library, multiple DVD's will be used.
It tried it out with a portion of my lib, burned a backup with my PC, and imported it on my MacBook. Works great! All but last played information is copied over...
Even Podcast, Movies etc are taken into account, also music not residing within the iTunes folder. After the restore on Mac, everything is properly placed within the iTunes folder you assigned.
Enjoy,
Roger

  • Migrating iTunes library from Mac to Windows

Please bear with me if this is an obvious question. My brain is scrambled trying to wrap it around the problem...
Is there a way to migrate an iTunes library from a Mac to iTunes on a Windows PC, still using the same iPod, with a mix of iTunes Store files and CD burns?

Assuming you have the newest version of iTunes, using home sharing is a really easy way. Just set it up on both your Mac and PC itunes.

  • Transfer ITUNES library from MAC to Windows???

I want to transfer my ITUNES library, which is on my MAC onto my windows XP laptop. Using an IPOD as an external hard drive makes sense, but Windows ITUNES will not recognize the format of the IPOD and wants to restore and format it for windows. Any help or advice besides burning all of it to disks???

If iTunes is running the Automatically Add to iTunes folder would be expected to be empty. Your media should normally be in ..\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media. The library file you want to connect to should be at ..\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl.
If your library was set up on a Mac some time ago the library file may be called iTunes Library without the .itl extension, in which case you should edit the filename to include it, but only do so if the icon indicates the extension isn't present.
I.e. if there is a file iTunes Library represented by a blank sheet, select it, press F2 on the keyboard, edit the name to iTunes Library.itl and confirm the change. Then shift-start iTunes and use the choose library option to open the library file.

  • How do I switch iTunes Library from Mac to Windows?

Well, my Macbook died today. Fortunately I have all my media on an external drive. Also, I have a Windows machine. How do I point my Windows iTunes to access my external drive/media? Also, I have an iPhone - will that be messed up; will all my data be erased. Oh lord, what a nightmare! (At least my Mac is backed up, so someday I'll be able to restore that to a new Mac.) Is it as simple as Preferences > Advanced > "iTunes Media folder location" and changing that location? Also, will Windows even be able to read the disk? I'm freakin'.

if the external HD is formatted for Mac, you may need to install MacDrive on the windoze machine.

  • Transfer iTunes library from Mac to PC?

I need to transfer an iTunes library from a Mac to a PC. How do I do that? I thought I could just download iTunes and then connect the iPod to that PC and it would sink the music from the pod to the PC but no such luck. It is making me format the iPod because it had been previously connected to the Mac. I don't want to format it unless I can transfer the music somehow.

Type "move itunes library from mac to pc " into the google search bar.
You cannot use the ipod, as far as I know

  • Best way to move/copy iTunes library from PC to Mac

    Hi,
What's the best way to get my iTunes library from my PC to my new Mac?
The two computers are both networked.
    Thanks.

    Greetings David:
I have just completed this task... It took many attempts to get the two computers talking (windows xp pro, and new Imac g5). When I finally got them to talk to each other, the file transfer was brutallly slow. I used the ether-net cable to connect the two machines directly. The system was not very stable and crashed continuously. I would get one or two songs transferred and then the mac would lock up and require a restart (command option esc), via force quit of finder. Relaunch would not work, and I had to shut the machine off with the on off switch each time.
Today I finally burned the tunes on 2 CDs and simply dumped them into the music file. The PC burns a full ( ~ 800 megs) in about 10 minutes. Mac can down load the CD in ~ 6 minutes. This adds up to less than 20 minutes. Using the direct connection (indicated 100 Mbts/sec on the PC) the process was pathetically slow (hours restarting and horsing around).
One of my goals was to get the machines talking to each other, having accomplished this, it think it is not a worthwhile effort.
    Best of luck to you,
    Mike

  • Transferring my ITunes library from an old Windows 95 workstation to a new WIndows 7 workstation via my IPAD Air 2.  No success.  Is anybody able to help?

I'm trying to transfer my ITunes library to my new Windows 7 workstation through my IPAD Air 2.  Unable to get them copied.  Please suggest a fix.

You should be able to copy iTunes purchases from your iPad to your new computer's iTunes library via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases . For non-iTunes purchased content on the iPad you will need a third-party program on your computer to copy them from it, iTunes will only copy iTunes purchases from a device - there are some listed half-way down this page : Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
If the two computers are connected to the same wifi network then you could use home sharing in iTunes to copy your library over.
Or you could use an external drive : How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support
If you will be changed the computer that you sync the iPad to then you may also find this page of use (it was written for iPhones, but most of it applies to iPads as well) : Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive

  • Copied itunes library from one ext HD to another - some music not playing

    Hello,
I copied all my itunes library from one external hard drive to another. I backed everything up first then reimported into itunes. About 100 of my MP3 files are in Windows Explorer and the files appear Ok but they are not adding to itunes. The songs is listed in my library as if its there in my playlists but I click on it and nothing happens in tunes. The song won't play if any format from what I've tried. I have researched on itunes and looked on the boards here and I think it is something to do with the encoding of the files, as when I click on 'get info' for the song everything comes up the same as the songs that are working only there is no profile/channel/encoding on the first summary screen. I have tried to import again from my windows folder after changing the encoding 'Import Settings' but it does not work. I also get that (-50)Error when I try and change the settings on the file. Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    GH

    It's probably corrupted mp3 headers.

  • Move iTunes library from Mac to PC

    Hi!
Just because I'm her web developer, my client thinks I know about all things computer. =)
So I will post her question here in hopes that someone can help me out (and thus, help her).
What is the proper way to move an iTunes library from a Mac (OS 10.2.8) to a PC (don't know the model or OS) if you don't have an iPod?
    Thanks!
    eCat
Mac to PC   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Transfer all her iTunes files to an external drive.
Make sure you get all her account info for iTunes since you may have to recreate it.
    Now, de-authorize the Mac.
Now download and install iTunes on the Windows Box, set it up with her account info.
Now transfer the iTunes files into the Windows My Music folder.
Play a song and authorize the computer.
    Done.

  • Importing iTunes Library from Mac to PC

I am going on extended travel and want to move my itunes library from my Mac Desktop to my PC Notebook. How do I transfer my library from the itunes MacOS environment to the PC Windows XP Pro environment?

Welcome to discussions, new Mac convert! I've been a convert for about 7 months now & I think you will be very happy. Anyway, there are 2 database files associated with your library that contain all your ratings, playlists, counts, etc. that must be transferred also, so that you can recover everything. The following link explains about these 2 files, .xml & .itl, & they are contained within the iTunes folder. Hope this helps!

  • Copying iTunes Library from one user account to another on the same MacBook

The problem is that I started using one user account and
when the library transferred over it went into another
