Copying KDE setting from one computer to another

I would like to copy my application and KDE settings to another computer (both running Arch with the same software and hardware). I am not sure what to do with ~/.config, ~/.local, and ~/.kde4 since they have subdirectories with names that match my the hostname of machine "A". If I naively copy everything, I get all sorts of errors/warning when logging in and trying to open my email/calendar/akonadi. How do you copy settings?

Which directories do you mean? The socket-$hostname, tmp-$hostname etc. shouldn't be of any importance and can be left behind. Important for akonadi are the .local/akonadi and .config/akonadi folders. What kind of errors exactly do you get?

The playlists are contained in the iTunesLIbrary.itl file.
If you are moving your library from one computer to another, simply copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

Keychain sync is no longer available

Move the entire keychain to any location on the new computer and double-click it. You can then drag the notes from one keychain to the other.

  • Copying iweb pages from one computer to another

I have iweb pages operational on a G5.
I want to transfer them to iweb on my macbook instead.
I don't want to re-create them from scratch.
    I have a .mac account.
Both iweb programs are the same version.
This is a mac! There must be an easy way to copy the web pages from one computer to another!
I explored the domain file route, copied the file from my G5 to the macbook, and did not get the pages I wanted. Instead I got the start page template. My information was not there.
    Any help out there?

All your information is in a single file called "domain"
By default it should be located in your
    user/library/application support/iWeb/ folder.
Find it, copy it, and move it to the new computer.
The first time you use it on the new computer double click the newly moved "domain" file to start up the iWeb application. Once you do that iWeb will remember that that is the file to open on start-up.
I use multiple computers to edit iWeb and to avoid confusion as to which "domain" file is the most recent, I just keep it on a flash drive. Be sure to keep "domain" backed up safely on your computers and off (CD disks, external hard drives, etc) because if you lose that one file, you've lost all your work. iWeb cannot edit published pages.
The reason you got blank pages is that you have to double click on the newly moved "domain" file to start up iWeb. Otherwise iWeb will start from the blank "domain" file that is already on the computer. You can have many "domain" files on the computer, If you start the iWeb application by clicking the iWeb icon, it will open the last "domain" file edited on that computer, which isn't the one you just moved. There is no other way to access your work.

  • Saving volume setting from one computer to another...

    Hi...
My friend and I have identical iPods and we exchange tunes between one another's computers. We'd like the volume setting adjustments made by us in iTunes to be consisent on either iPod. But when we transfer the music files from one computer to the other, the volume settings always goes back to the normal setting.
Is there any way to save the volume settings made in iTunes, from one computer to another?
    Thanks for you time!

  • Copy/Move Itunes from one computer to another

    Greetings,
I need help...I purchased a new Sony Vaio laptop and wanted to copy all my music (itunes, walmart purchases, and music ripped from CDs). I read all I could online, including this site and consulted a local college student. All said I could just copy the entire My Music folder from one computer to the other. I did (making sure I placed the itunes song in the Media folder) and then added folder to the Library. Everything works fine except I do not have the ability to looked at my purchased songs. (1) How do I recreate the purchased songs log? (2)Is there a legal issue of leaving the songs on the old computer (desktop)? (3) Are there any problems/issues I need to know before I get too far down this path? Thanks for your help. BTW, I have made backups of my itunes account.

    You're welcome!
+First, if there is an easier method of copying the library,+
There is, and the method you tried at first should have worked. Are both PCs running the same version of itunes? If they are both at the latest version 9, did the old PC ever have itunes 8 on it before?
+All said I could just copy the entire My Music folder from one computer to the other. I did (making sure I placed the itunes song in the Media folder) and then added folder to the Library.+
There shouldn't have bee any placing itunes song in the Media folder - they should have already been there. And you shouldn't have had to add the folder to the library. Copying the entire folder over should have been as easy as opening itunes and seeing the complete library as it looked on the old PC. Sounds like you started with a blank library on the new PC and added songs - that's adding some steps that changed the desired result.
Second, I do not have a Green "Purchased" icon under the STORE
When you start with a blank library and haven't made any new purchases, that's normal. If you get a free single of the week it will show up. Then you can add your previous purchases like I posted with the smart playlists.
Or you can go back and do the move from the old PC correctly, and it will all be there.
Let's get all that sorted before talking artwork - you're right, WMP gets artwork from AMG and itunes locks you into the itunes store. But that is another thread!
oops, I meant to ask if you have read this iLounge article and understand the difference between itunes library content vs itunes library database

  • Copy Form Setting from one user to another

    Hi,
    I am using 2005A.
How to copy form setting (rows and UDFs at header) from one user to another user?
    Thanks

    Hi Ming Ming On,
I found a note couple of years ago.
I can't remember the note number, and I attach the note here.
    Solution
The following queries enables you to set preferences for one user and copy those to another user who is supposed to have the same preferences.
    Explanation for the queries variables:
    dest - Company database name
sourcid - Represents the user ID from whom the preferences will be copied.
destid - Represents the user ID to whom the preferences will be copied.
How to get the user ID?
From SAP Business One query interface or from the SQL Query Analyzer, run the query as follows:
    1. SELECT T0.U_NAME, USERID FROM OUSR T0 FOR BROWSE
    2. From the query's results, identify both the sourcid and the destid.
    3. In order to copy the preferences from sourcid to destid, run the query as follows:
    a) Replace the text dest with the company database name.
    b) Replace the text sourceid with the user ID from which the preferences will be copied.
    c) Replace the text destid with the user ID to which the preferences will be copied.
    d) Use dest, if exists (select 1 from sysobjects where name = 'temp_dev_sup')
    e) Begin - drop table temp_dev_sup
    f) End - select * into temp_dev_sup from cprf where usersign='sourcid'
    Deleting a certain user:
    Delete from cprf where usersign='destid'
    Update userid in temporary table:
    1. Update temp_dev_sup
    2. Set usersign='destid'where usersign='sourcid'
    Insert preferces into CPRF table
    1. Insert into cprf
    2. Select "" from temp_dev_sup where usersign='destid*'
    예제)
    1. Use TEST_MONAMI
    2. drop table temp_dev_sup
    3. Delete from cprf where usersign='2'
    4. select * into temp_dev_sup from cprf where usersign='1'
    5. Update temp_dev_sup
        Set usersign='2'where usersign='1'
    6.  Insert into cprf
         Select * from temp_dev_sup where usersign='2'

  • Cany I Copy dng files from one computer to another....

...without losing the editing I've done in the develop mode?  I don't want to move them, just copy them.

That's one of the big benefits of the DNG format, Pixeltaker.  All your LR edits can be stored directly inside the file.
LR is a database driven application, so the database is the first place it stores all your edits.  LR can be told to also store the exact same information automatically inside your DNG files, but it's not configured for this out-of-the-box.  To insure the edits are written into the files themselves, you can do one of three things:
Before copying the files to another location using (Win) Explorer or (Mac) Finder, select every file in the Library module and press Ctrl (Cmd) - S.  If you have hundreds of images, you'll see a progress meter appear in the top bar while it "saves" all the changes logged in the catalog to the DNG files.
Alternatively you could use the LR export function to select all the files you wish to copy, and use the export as DNG option.  This will create a second copy of the files in a new location of your choosing, and the new files will contain all the edits.
As a third option, you can go into the catalog settings of LR, and on the Metadata tab check "automatically write changes into XMP."  This basically tells LR to automatically perform step 1 to every DNG/RAW file live as you perform the changes.  This will also apply retractively to any files in the catalog which have been changed, but not written to the files, so if there are many you should expect LR to grind away for a bit after enabling this option.  There are some circumstances where this may have an impact on your computer's performance.  When working on one or few files at a time, the live updating of each file will happen seamlesssly with no noticable impact.  When adjusting hundreds of files at once, you may notice a slight performance degredation as every file is touched by LR with every single change.  The degree of the impact really depends on your system, and the performance of the drive containing the RAW/DNG files.  Many photographers (myself included) feel this option is the most convenient, and the tradeoff is well worth the occasional slowdown.  With this option enabled, you could go straight to the master files and simply copy them to your new location, and all the changes will always be there.
If you have non-DNG RAW files, LR will instead save the changes into a sidecar XMP file, as the proprietary files created by the camera manufacturers do not have a space designated for logging your edits.  This creates two files to manage while moving files around, so I much prefer DNG for simplicity.

  • Copying album art from one computer to another

I downloaded album artwork on my work computer and now I would like to copy it to my home computer (no internet connection). In the iTunes folder there is a folder called "Album Artwork."
Inside of it there is a "Download folder" with lots of folders with numbers on them, such as, "OO ," "01," etc.
My concern is that since these are generic titles for folders, I may already have folders like this with the same names in my "Album Artwork" folder on my home computer and it may overwrite them. What is the best way to do this?
    Thanks!

this may be a dumb answer but have you guys tried the 'get album artwork' feature under the 'advanced' selection from the menu? oh wait. no internet connection. how do i delete my dumb answer?

Right click the playlist and select "Export Song List". In the next screen that comes up, change the type from a TXT file to an XML file, and save the XML playlist. Copy that XML file to the other machine, and import it into iTunes. Voila. Even saves your Smart Playlist rules.

  • How do I copy LR defaults from one computer to another?

Sorry, this has probably been asked a billion times but I couldn't find a search "key" that would give an answer.
I'd like to simply copy the "default" process settings for our cameras from my desktop to my laptop ... it seems it ought to be logical and easy and I can't find it. Feeling really stupid about now. Sheesh!
    Neil

If they're Develop Presets then John's method works. However, if they're saved Camera Defaults using the Set Default Settings... command then you will need to copy the Camera Raw "Defaults" folder across.
Edit: it looks like you posted while I was typing.
The files you want are located within the  Users\~\Library\Application Support\Adobe\CameraRaw\Defaults subfolder  (Mac). On Windows they're in the Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\Defaults

  • Copy lightroom 4.4 "default camera settings" from one computer to another?

Is it possible to copy my lightroom 4.4 "default camera settings" from one computer to another?

Quote "Are you saying that the settings are stored in the catalog."
I believe it is stored in the Preferences file. You can use presets to do the same thing as adjusting the "default develop settings", they are applied differently.
One is set in the Lightroom "Preferences" and one is applied by selecting a particular preset at import. I have not tried but since you can delete the preference file and Lightroom will rebuild one I am pretty sure you should be able to copy one from one computer to another.
Also you need to be aware that Lightroom applies noise reduction by default to your specific camera model and to the ISO setting. It does not display the actual settings.

  • How can i copy apps from one computer to another?

how can i copy apps from one computer to another?

You don't mention which operating system you have so it's difficult to provide an answer since the mac and Windows stores the files differently.
The other thing you can do is just re-download the apps from the iTunes Store. Just login to the iTunes Store on the other computer using the same Apple ID. On the right-hand side of the iTunes Store page you will see a 'Purchased' link. Clicking on that will take you to a page that will list your past purchases which you can re-download to the new computer.

  • Copying photos from one computer to another, with descriptions

After editing photo descriptions and locations in iPhoto, it is desireable to be able to copy them to iPhoto on another computer, with the associated photo descriptions and locations.  In principle, this is possible by selecting all desired photos, then selecting File -> Export...  In the Export dialog box, in the "File Export" tab, select "Include: Titles and keywords", and "Include: Location information".  Copy the exported files to the other computer, and do a File -> Import to Library ...
In practice, this works fine with images taken by some cameras, and not with images from others.  In my limited experience with a Fuji F80EXR and a Canon SX230HS, the above work flow works with the Fuji.  But, with the Canon, while the exported files clearly have the description data embedded in them (as seen by GraphicConverter), it is not imported into iPhoto, nor is it visible in Preview's Inspector.  The workaround I use is to run an exiftool command on the exported files.
Exiftool is a command line utility that can read and write meta data in image files:
    http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/
I run the following command on the exported files to rewrite the IPTC Caption:
exiftool −overwrite_original_in_place -tagsfromfile %f.jpg -ext jpg -"IPTC:Caption-Abstract>IPTC:Caption-Abstract" *.jpg
Note that the above command overwrites the files that were exported from iPhoto.  If you wish to leave the original files intact, with an "_original" appended to the file name, run:
exiftool -tagsfromfile %f.jpg -ext jpg -"IPTC:Caption-Abstract>IPTC:Caption-Abstract" *.jpg
I'm not sure why it is necessary to copy and rewrite that data.  Perhaps there is something strange in the format of the meta data in the file as it comes from the camera, and the iPhoto export does not correct this strangeness. Copying and rewriting the data by exiftool seems to put things right.
The above works for me, but is somewhat unwieldy.  Is there a better way to copy photos from one computer to another, if iPhoto refuses to import the description data that it was written to the exported files?

Thanks for the pointer.  I did a test with 10 images, and confirmed the iPLM works, even with the problematic images from my Canon SX230HS.
The workflow is to use iPLM to create a new Library on the computer that has the photos you want to copy.  Copy the photos to the new Library.  Copy the new Library to the second computer using a method of your choice (file sharing, USB flash drive, etc).  Copy the photos from the new Library to the existing iPhoto Library.
iPLM costs $20, whereas my original solution was free (but you need to invest the time to get exiftool installed and working).  But, unlike exiftools, iPLM also copies over the Faces information, so it is likely a worthwhile investment if you use that feature.

  • Can I copy a Book in LR 4.2 from one computer to another?

I have a Book I'd like to put together.  Problem is, I have some phtos here at work to use, and some at home. Is it possible to copy the book from one compter to another, so I can work on the book at both locations?

I would consider it more simple to copy the images on portable storage space and plug that into the computer you will use for book creating.
First you should go for LR4.3RC, as a heinous bug in book module has been fixed, which is still present in LR4.2 (book being empty all of a sudden).
If you still prefer to work on 2 computers on 1 book: export the saved book=a collection of type book as catalog, including previews and negatives.
Import this partial catalog on the 2nd machine (Import from Another Catalog), because thus collection membership travels along from one catalog to the other.
Then select it and switch to book module.
Export as catalog before you switch computers again.
