Copying Layers/ Repeating Animation

Ok, I'm not sure how to explain this:
Basically I have a 12 second animation which consists of 9
layers, a mask, some pictures and text. What I want to do is repeat
the same animation over and over again using different text and
pictures. I assumed I could just grab the 9 layers copy and paste
them somehow but nothing seems to work.
What's the correct way of going about this?

Been going crazy all night
I'm trying to create an animated gif. I made a BG image that I want the video to go on top of. The video is 136 frames (layers). I duplicated the BG image 136 times and pasted the videos 136 layers on top of the BG image.. Here is my problem.. I need to move the video frames (136 of them) onthe background so it lines up better... How do I move them all at once. Meaning if I move the frame on layer 1, the frames will move on EVERY layer. There has to be a way to move them so they all move to the same location at once. There is no way I could move each one separately and get them in the exact same location...
PLEASE HELP!!!

Sorry... Using PS CS4 Extended.. Not sure what you mean by click the purple icon and then the red button.... I know it will be a bit choppy, but that is alright for this project.... I know with imageready (in the past) you could drag the image and it would move the image in every frame.... There has to be a way to move the image on layer one so that the image will move to the exact spot in each layer..... Atleast, I hope there is.. Thanks for getting back to me

It would help to know what program you are using and it might help to post in that program's forum.
Beware that you are grossly abusing the GIF format. It is not intended for video. You could experience choppy playback and/or a lousy color palette.

Select all the frames you want to copy, right click and select copy frames then select the file you want to paste them into and right click again and then paste frames.
The layers the frames are should come across with them.

Copy layers or pieces of a layer from one page to another, without masters?

How can I copy layers or pieces of one page to another? I created a master, and I want to create a second master that uses much of the same setup, but I need to go in and input a background photo. However, the only quick way to get the menus and headers from the first master into the second master is actually assigning the master, but then I cannot move the photo to the back of everything. Is there such a way that I can copy those menus and such into a new master without having it assigned to the first master?

In your site plan, right click on the master you would like to use as a second master and choose 'duplicate page'. This will create a new master with all of the elements from the first master but can be edited separate from the first menu.
If I understood what you were trying to do that should work for you.

try opening the Scenes panel :)

you do need to move a bunch of things on different key frames that

Can't copy paste opacity animation

All-
I am unable to copy paste opacity animations in Edge while inside the symbol.
I can copy paste other animations like x y while in the symbol but not opacity
The work around is to redo the animation at the point where needed
Am i missing something?

"Copy" label missing from copied layers

When I make a layer copy the new layer retains the name of the original. That is, it does not say "copy" anywhere! Very confusing! How can I fix this?

Look at the Layers Panel Options and verify you have Add "Copy" to Copied Layers and Groups checked.

How do I copy layers from one image to another?

I am editing figures for a journal and I need arrows for multiple images. Is there a standard arrow? I can only see free hand. If I use a free hand arrow I then want to copy it to the other images for consistency. How do I copy or share layers between images?

There are many arrows in the shape tool, or you can set the line tool to have an arrowhead in the tool options. You can copy/paste layers from one image to another, or drag a layer from the layers panel into the main image window of another image and then use the move tool to position it. You can also drag into the thumbnail in the photo bin, but you'll still need to bring the image up to adjust the positioning.

Copying layers from one document to another problem?

Hey there, so I have two documents of the same size (11 inches x 8.5 inches) and I am trying to copy some layers from an original document and move it to the second one. I'm doing this by just dragging the layers from the original to the new document. The problem is, the text or images are extremely smaller on the new document and if I blow them up, look really pixelated. What am I doing wrong? The original document is saved as a Photoshop PDF and I believe was made on CS4. I am currently using Photoshop CC 2014.

Make sure the DPI/Resolution is the same for the new document as it is for the original. Files created with 11x8.5 at 72 dpi will show up smaller on 11x8.5 at 300 dpi documents for example. You can also right click on the layer and choose 'duplicate layer', then when the dialog open, select the name of the new document in the dropdown as the place to put the duplicate layer. Either way, the dpi of both files should match. Viewing the image size on the image menu can tell you the current DPI/Resolution. Hope that helps with your problem some. I'm not sure if the fact that the original is a PDF is causing an issue.

Copying layers from one document to another

Hi using Cs6, locked down all the layers I didnt want to copy across, select all, copy .. new document select paste remembers layers, paste in front, all layers beautifully copied but I cant see any of them on the artboard, only in the layers panel. There is nothing on top of the layers .. any suggestions much appreciated .. thanks

Do a view >> outline view, do you see the elements anywhere?
Zoom out, you may have pasted close to the edge of the pastboard
If you had an element selected(that was inside a mask), and then did a paste in front or back, you may have nested the items inside a mask - though I doubt this is what happened since you have more than one layer.

Copying layers changes layer name

Hi there,
Im pretty good about naming my layers (and sublayers.) I find that when i copy and paste a layer, its being renamed. For example, I'll name a layer, "button_text_01" when i copy and paste that layer, InDesign renames it, "button_text_02" instead of something like, "button_text_01copy."
I use numbers as part of my naming convention but dont want ID doing it automatically. Is there a setting to change this?

You have to write the exact name of the layer (not sublayer and not page item!) in prompt. This layer will be unlocked, visible and active.

Toggle Layers Visibility Animation in Pre-Comp

Hi, I want to make a pre-comp with 2 mouse-pointer images, the one has the normal state, the other image has teh pressed pointer state. Now in a parent layer it'd be wonderful if I could use this pointer-pre-comp and when ever I want to show a pressed-pointer, I set a keyframe set (pree / unpress) to the pointer-pre-comp within the parent-pre-comp ... is such a thing doable ? Because rt now I'm animating out every single step.

If you know anything about expressions you could do it with a Slider Controll. Because the pointer and the over state are different sizes you'll have to change opacity of both layers. I'm calling your pointer comp "pointerComp" (this name doesn't matter) and attaching adding the expression slider to a null named PointerController (not important) in the mainComp i'm naming "Main Comp" (and that name matters a bunch). I also named the slider Opacity Slider by selecting it in the ECW and pressing return the same way you rename layers in the timeline.
Here's the expression for the over layer's opacity:
comp("Main Comp").layer("PointerController").effect("OpacitySlider")("Slider");
for the second or normal layer we'll do something a little different. I'm going to subtract the value of the slide from 100 because opacity can only be in values from 0 to 100.
The expression looks like this:
100 - comp("Main Comp").layer("PointerController").effect("OpacitySlider")("Slider");
The only typing I did to create these expressions was to type in the 100 -
The rest was created entirely with the pickwhip by separating the two timelines and locking the null's Effect Controller window.
The last part of the solution is set keyframes and animate the Opacity Slider between 0 and 100. You can set pairs of keyframes a couple of frames apart if you want a little fade, or you can set the keyframes to Hold Keyframes using Animation>Toggle Hold Keyframe or using the keyboard shortcut Alt/Option + Cmnd/Ctrl + H.
Here's what the project looks like. It took longer to explain it than to do it.

HELP: Copying layers from one file to another to keep structure not possible??!!!

I have a curious question. Sounds a bit silly and highly disappointed if Illustrator is actually not capable of doing this. Hopefully I have missed something.
I have an AI doc that has grown so large that saving it now is a major effort so trying to break out sections into multiple AI files. Allot of users will be working on these files so it is imperative that all the Artboard elements are clearly organized in the appropriate folders (layers). Im trying to simply copy and paste a layer that has multiple layers beneath and within those more layers to another empty AI file. Everything copies correctly and in place however it dumps all the elements into a single massive layer in the new file. If I go into the Layer Palette menu and check on Paste Remembers Layers it does a better job at keeping some of the structure but it still doesnt copy exactly how the structure was in the Master document.
Please tell me Im doing something wrong. I cant believe that you cant simply drag and drop a parent layer from one file to another while maintaining its structure! Exactly like in Photoshop - copying a folder from one file to another is simply as easy as dragging and dropping ...is this same methodology not available with Illustrator? I always assumed the layer and folder concept between these two packages were somewhat interchangeable.

Hi All,
After much trial and error trying to locate where the problem was it ended up being the guide objects. If you have the guides set to lock and attempt to copy out any layer that a guide is sitting in the resulting copy/paste will break apart that layer structure in the destination file. Simply setting the guides unlock allows everything to translate correctly.
You guys may have known about it already but I learnt a little something in the process. Thanks to all for your suggestions!

Hi, What's the maximum number of laters that can be used in animated GIFs made with PSE8 and PSE9? Using Windows XP

The smaller the document size the more layers you can animate.
Have no idea what the limits are.
