Copying Metadata to Offline Clips

Hi,
I thought I was going to edit my project using my ProRes footage, so logged - with extensive notes - information right into the bin with the media. I've got lots of information in the description coloumn, Angle, Shot/Take, Scene/ Comment A, etc.
Now I've created offline media to edit with (instead of the ProRes) and none of my notes are available on the offline versions.
How can I copy all that metadata from the ProRes clips to my offline clips?

My ProRes media; that I was going to edit with. It's the first project where I took notes in the software and not on paper. So, all my logging info is connected to the ProRes clips - in the browser.

In MPEG Streamclip - which is why I've got this problem with no clear solution; I guess!

So, if I had converted my ProRes to PAL in MEDIA MANAGER, using the RECOMPRESS option, all my metadata would carry across to my offline copies? Is that correct? Maybe it's worth the few hours to do it that way, then.

Batch Listing Metadata for Offline Files

Hello all -
I'm using Premiere CC 2014 on OSX. I'm trying to do a batch list export of the metadata for a few dozen offline clips in my project.
Here are the details:
I need the filenames and video ins and outs (NOT the media start and end) for all of my media files to put in a spreadsheet for archival purposes. I don't actually have access to the media itself - just to the project file.
When I do a batch export by highlighting all of the files and going to File>Export>Batch List, the only three columns that export are the filename and the media start and end. I'm hoping to get an export with all of the columns of metadata so that I can narrow it down to just the data I need. Basically, this is the info that I want to be able to put in a spreadsheet:

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Reconnect offline clips

I used the tagging of PSE5 to tag my video clips (same as photos). I also used the move/copy method to store the material (avi files) offline on to DVD's. Due to a glitch in the PSE6 ability to recognize offline files from PSE5 I am bringing all my material back online to external hard drives. Everything has gone fine. I've just about filled up my first 750GB hard drive from the offline material.
My issue at this point is I have hit some DVD's that the Move option under File dropdown in PSE5 doesn't recognize the DVD's I put in. This may be a DVD cataloging issue. My computer can see the files in the DVD, so there is no problem for the computer to deal with the files. It is just that PSE5 can't see the files for restoring them to an online location. I'm looking for suggestions on alternatives to bring this material on line and still retain the tags I have for them and have PSE5 recognize they are online.

Apple Discussion- reconnecting offline clips

I have all the media connected except the voiceover. I even find the voiceover clips and I drag them into the browser then I try to reconnect them without luck. I can manually drag one at a time from the browser to the time line to replace those off lines, so I just have to work around it. The reason why I move them around at the first place? Because I need the space in my internal drives for a new project, therefore I want to save the project (including the medias) in my external drive for future editing. Apparently, I am not smart enough to handle it.

Copy more than one clip at a time from iPhoto to iMovie?? Please help!

Is it possible to copy more than one clip at a time from iPhoto to iMovie? I can't find a way to select/copy more than one.

OK you can leave them in iPhoto and access them from the iMovie Event for iPhoto.
If you prefer to move them to a regular iMovie Event, you can do the following.
1) right-click on one of the iPhoto clips and select "Reveal in Finder". This will open a finder window showing the clips in the iPhoto Library.
2) In a different Finder window, create a folder to hold your event in iMovie. If you are using an internal drive, create a folder using your desired Event Name under the Movies/iMovie Events Folder.
Note: If you are using an external drive, create a Folder called iMovie Events at the top level of the external drive. Then create the (Event Name) folder under this. The external drive must be formatted as MacOS Extended (journaled) for this to work.
3) Select all the clips in the iPhoto finder window that are part of this event and Move them to the Movies/iMovie Event/(Event Name) folder.
4) After you have done this for all the Events, open iMovie and let it generate thumbnails. This may take a while.

How can I copy and paste a clip already in my timeline

Here is my problem I am attempting to copy and paste a video clip from video 1 to video 2 and it will not let me do it. I am using several effects to create a moving face block and it calls for an exact copy of the section with faces to be blocked. I have been working for 2 hours trial and error and everytime I copy and paste in video 1 it moves the next clip or the entire timeline over and I cannot get it back to where it was without unsyncing my titles and music tracks. Thankfully it has the Udno feature but Is there any way I can copy and paste a clip in the beginning of my timeline without distorting the entire video by doing so?

Copy your clip, use the End key to go to the end of the timeline. Paste then drag to Video2. When it is over the original clip it will 'snap' into place for you.

How can I copy and paste a clip to duplicate it?

Like the title says, I want to copy and paste a clip so that it can be duplicated in the timeline.

Now, when one has added and adjusted Effects on a Clip, they can Copy those Effects & Attributes, then Paste those to other Clips, either individually, or to many, by Selecting all, where that/those Effect(s), and Adjustments are desired. That is a somewhat similar operation, but does not Copy the Clip - just the Effects and Adjustments made to it.
Good luck, and glad that you are able to Copy & Paste the desired Clip, into another spot on your Timeline.

Copy metadata from one field to another

I have two questions relating to batch copying metadata in Aperture (3.5.1).
1) Can you copy the contents of the Aperture metadata field “Version Name” to the IPTC metadata field “Headline” for multiple images at once?
2) Can you copy “Faces” (names of all people identified in multiple photos) to “Keywords” data field at once? (I have been able to copy one person at a time to multiple images, but not all people at once).

Thanks! Very helpful. I think I get it, but perhaps you can confirm my understanding of 1) the IPTC metadata field.
I would like to duplicate the unique version name and write the version names into the Headline field. This does not seem possible using "Batch Change" (unless I am missing something). Batch change is good for making unique names that have a sequential property (e.g. "name 01, name 02, etc.). I would like to copy version names that are not sequential in nature (e.g. "name XYA , name BBR, etc.").
From your reply, It seems this will be impossible (?).

Copy edits to multiple clips malfunction?

When I "copy edits" to multiple clips weird things happen. If the clip has been cropped or transformed the frame is restricted. Not sure if I can explain this well but here goes.
I have transformed a clip and cropped the edges
I command-option-c to copy the edits
I command-option-v to paste to 3 other clips that are a similar setting to save time
I go to the next clip to add a couple other edits or backgrounds and move the clip in the view but now the crop boundries are all screwed up and the area that I previous cropped is visable but the "crop-lines" are where I set them. If I move the clip in the viewer, left or right or up or down, it moves within a stagnant cropped field. If I drag the "crop-line" its way off the edge of the clip.
Hope that makes sense. This is something I did many times before the update with not issues. It saved a lot of time but now I have to do these edits to each clip. What happened?

Are you using FCPX? Forget the Command-Option-C for copy the "effects". You want to copy attributes. Just use Command-C, the normal copy command. To Paste Attributes, use Shift-Command-V. You'll have more control over things.
And make sure the clips you're pasting attributes to have NO effects or tranformations done to them before hand.

RMD metadata for R3D clip not always loaded

I'm getting a bug where 'sometimes' the RMD metadata for a clip is not automatically loaded by Premiere for R3D clips (from Red cameras). I have to right click on the clip, select 'source settings', and then click on 'Reload from RMD'.
These R3D files were trimmed in RedCine X. Could that have anything to do with this inconsistency?

Adding Metadata to MXF Clips?

How do you do this? I imported a bunch of clip brought over from Sony Clip Browser and I can't add any metadata. What's up? Surely you are able to add metadata to MXF flies, right?
I can do it like normal in MOV files (Canon 7D) and regular EX1 MP4 clips, but not when converted to MXF.

You can add clip metadata that is pertinent to a specific clip, within a given project, but opening that MXF in another project will not result showing up in that new project. Premiere doesn't have the ability to write file metadata to an MXF file from within the Premiere Pro interface; any metadata editing of that sort must be done externally in a third-party application. The benefit of that, however, is that no matter where the file is imported, the metadata is readable. Read About file, clip, and project XMP metadata and Using clip metadata and file metadata for more background on this.
You should be able to add metadata in Clip Browser, but check that that actually imports into Premiere along with the clip before logging everything; in CS4, at least, that metadata didn't make the trip

Display metadata instead of clip name on the clips in the timeline and in the source monitor

Is there a way to display metadata instead of clip name on the clips in the timeline and in the source monitor? Clip names are usually set by the camera and are of no use to me. What i would like the clip and the source monitor to display is the name of the shot from the metadata. That's,in my opinion, a very useful info when you're editing a film. If that feature doesn't exist, is there a way to batch rename clips based on metadata?

one other question maybe you have an answer to that too. it seems both Audio tracks are independ when putting on keyframes is there a way when using keyframes in the time line that it affect both channels of audio for example a1 an a2

Copy metadata

I can not get copy metadata to work in LR4 or 4.1. When I click on copy metadata, with a picture selected that has metadata, a window opens with the metadata form. None of the check boxes has any metadata in them from the picture I selected. If I fill in some of the boxes and then paste to another picture, that works. The same thing happens with sync. It appears that the metadata from the selected picture is not read when clicking on copy metadata.. I am running LR4.1 under Win 7 on a PC. Is there something I am doing wrong and not seeing here?

The process I am using is as follows, in the library module I select a
photo that has metadata in some fields with EXIF and IPTC selected. I
click on copy Metadata and a copy Metadata dialogue box opens. I select
check all boxes, all headings turn red and the field are filled with the
statement "type to add, leave blank to clear." I select a different photo
and click on paste metadata, the metadata panel for the picture I just
selected is cleared with no metadata being pasted. Thanks for your

Copy Metadata failed

With LR 2.1 the most probs I have are fixed:
1. The automatic save to xmp-function
2. Edit to panorama in PS CS3
I think the adjustment brush works faster.
One problem I see again:
By copying metadata and marking only the place in the IPTC-Data, LR 2.1 copy also the non-marked keywords to the other photo.

Didn't know about this bug.
Just checked both 2.0 and 2.1 - both exhibit this bug. Synchronize Metadata also flawed.

Offline clips question

I have a project that I am working on and I have two scratch disks I am working with. I have taken the clips from the one external drive, that I no longer want to use as a scratch disk, and transferred the capture scratch folder into the capture scratch folder on the one scratch disk I want to primarily use. My question is, how do I reconnect all the now offline clips in the time line?

Use te File>Reconnect function and point the clips at the correct piece of media.

i lost some of my clips, i tried to reconnecting them but they wont connect, does any one know how to reconnect offline clips

i just got a new system and the video clips are on 2 external hard drives, there are red lines threw the clips, in the window, it says media offline in red. i clicked on the file n went to reconnect, located the clip n then clicked to choose but once it goes back to the first box where it is sopossed to drop to the bottom box nothing happen n i have to cancel out because it just dose nothing.
