Copying movies to the new iPad

Hi, I was ondering if someone could help me/offer advice. We take a DVD player for the kids, when we go on holiday, hgaving to take 10 DVDs or so. We also take the new iPad with us for the kids to play games & I was thinking its a shame we cant get the DVD's that we have purchased onto the ipad & just take that with us. So Im not after illegally downlaoding movies to the iPad....but is there any way that bought DVD's e.g Ice Age can be imported onto the iPad?
Many thanks
James

We can't help you with commercial DVDs like Ice Age. Converting the file format requires that you break the CSS encryption and we can't tell you how to do that.
The cheapest option would be to take a portable DVD player if you have one (You can pick one up for 100ish I think, haven't shopped for a long time), or if youwant them on the iPad, purchase copies from iTunes, or rent them. (Although you will need to pay attention and make sure the rental isn't a streaming service but a download service)
If any of your movies have digital copies you may be able to get those on a computer and into itunes and then sync'd.

  • Why does it take so long to download movies on the new iPad

I just bought the New iPad and I am connected to Wi-Fi and it is taking at least one full day to download a 4GB movie from the Apple store. Is this normal? How can I make the downloading faster?

Aha.  If you are at a hotel, you probably have a throttled connection.  They want you to buy their movie, not stream your own.......
But the app is a great thing to have on board.  You never know when you might want to check a connection.

  • Can i download movies to the new ipad 3

I will be getting the new ipad 3, can I buy and download movies to it or do you have to stream them.?

For those who know, is there a marked difference in the regular vs. HD version of a movie viewed on the new iPad? I guess my real question is, it is worth the extra cost for the HD version? I am new to iPad and want to buy a few movies to watch during a long flight in August. If there is a significant difference, then I don't mind paying the extra money. If it really doesn't matter all that much, then it's sort of a "no brainer".

  • Can I watch HD shows / movies on the new iPad?

I just received the new iPad and wanted to purchase a tv show. The options are HD and SD. Sorry for not being tech savvy or anything

You can't use the same Apps as the ones on your MacBook, but you can use the iPad version from the App Store. They are sold separately as Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

I'd take it into my local APple store and have them look at it. There may be something wrong inside your device.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Haven't really used any of them including VLC - actually use netflix on the ipad more than anything. I was able to drop an mp4 into imovie on my ipad and see it there. This was something I had shot as avhcd and converted with turbo.264. Played fine. Probably not what you want for a movie player though.
Well, turbo.264 is indeed very nice to have - even for converting full-sized movies. (Nevertheless, TechRadar's latest roundup (see http://www.techradar.com/news/software/applications/6-of-the-best-video-converte rs-for-mac-1074303 ; also linked from another roundup at http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/benchmark-excellent-multimedia-converter-handb rake-vs-commercial-apps ) has shown it's still worse than HandBrake in most respects.)
All H.264 files (assuming they are H.264 level 4.1 or lower) are compatible with the built-in Videos app.

Those of you who use other players, what do you reccomend? Just curious.
It entirely depends on your needs. The top players (AVPlayerHD / ProPlayer, It's Playing, GoodPlayer) all have different strengths and weaknesses. I myself use It's Playing the most as I convert everything into MP4 and simply love the DSP's (brightness / volume / saturation boosting). (Its software decoders are definitely worse than those of AVPlayerHD / ProPlayer; however, MP4's are played back from hardware.)

Transferring your prepaid cellular data account depends on your carrier. AT&T lets you move it yourself when you go to Cellular Data in Settings and log into your account with your previous AT&T user name and password. For iPads with Sprint service, you can set up an account on the new iPad and contact Sprint Customer Care (888-211-4727 and go through the menus) to deactivate the old plan and get credit for unused service. For Verizon, call the company’s customer service number for mobile broadband support (800-786-8419) and ask to have your account transferred.

  • CineXplayer on the new iPad: why does my avi movie "trembles" while playing?

    Hi all,
I just purchased the CineXPlayer from the app store because I wanted to play a few AVI movies on my new iPad. I am really disappointed because the app couldn't handle the very first avi movie I threw to it.
The same AVI movie plays fine on my iMac using VLC. In cineXPlayer, the movie "trembles" but the sound is ok. Can anyone suggest where the problem might be?
I have removed cineXplayer and on the lookout for a free app for my iPad. Any suggestions?
    regards,
    Ali

Let's get your phone back on track.  Is this the first time the iPhone speeds through a song? Is the software up to date?  You can view that here http://apple.co/1K1avN8.  Does the phone have any physical damage?

Contrary to the opinion above, I see no reason whatsoever why you can't set up the new iPad from the backup of the old one. Obviously you will have app updates to make and complete and that sort of thing, but if you want to retain all of your app data and device settings (some of which will change because of the updated iOS), I would certainly restore from the backup first.
If you find that to be problematic, you can always start all over again.

  • I have the new ipad.  I am in the process of trasferring movies that were not purchased thru itunes from my PC  to the ipad.  My GB ipad allotment is almost used up.  How do I get the remaining movies into the cloud or does it only take itunes videos?

I have the new ipad and I'm trying to transfer videos from my PC to the ipad.  My GB allotment is almost used up and I want to utilize some of my free cloud storage.  How do I do this or does the icloud only take items purchased thru itunes?

iCloud cannot help you - it's not a storage device, but primarily a syncing and backup service.  You have to decide which videos to put on your ipad as you cannot add more memory to it.
