Copying/Moving photos in iPhoto to Windows PC

I have an iMac running side by side with Windows PC via VM Ware Fusion 3. Because I have ProShow Gold running in Windows how can I copy/move photos (album/folder) from iPhoto into Windows so that I can create slide shows like I used to before I bought the Mac?
DLPT

There are a bucket of ways to make a folder on the Desktop:
Using the contextual menu as you describe
Using File -> New Folder
Pressing Shift-command-n
There's even a new Folder button in the Export dialogue.
But however you do it, you need a folder to receive the pics as you export them from iPhoto.
Then +in the iPhoto Window+ select the Pics you want to export and go File -> Export.

How do I copy several photos from IPhoto to an email?

    Hello sfbates41,
Thank you for thinking of Apple Support Communities for your support needs.
To copy several photos from iPhoto into an email, first you need to select them, then you can drag them over into the email message or start an email from there.
    iPhoto 9.5: selecting photos
To select a photo, click it. A selected photo has a yellow border.
Here are other ways to select photos:
To select more than one photo, hold down the Command key while you click each photo.
    Drag to select multiple photos.
To select a continuous range of photos, click the first photo, and then press the Shift key while you click the last photo.

    1.  Email photos
Select the photo (or photos) you want to send.
You can send photos from your photo library or an album, but not from a slideshow or a project (such as a book, card, or calendar).
    2.  In the toolbar, click the Share button, and then Mail.
    3.  If this is the first time you’re using iPhoto to email photos, select the email account you want to use, click Setup, complete the requested information, and then click Save.
If you don’t see your email provider, click Cancel and follow the steps in the task below to set up your email account.
Your photos appear in the email window, presented in a theme.

  • I copy 409 photos from iPhoto but my desktop folder only has 150 pictures!

I copy 409 photos from iPhoto but my desktop folder only has 150!  What has gone wrong?

There are a number of reports of folks having issues with copy/paste or drag/drop from the iPhoto Window right now. No known solutions at this time.
    FYI
Copy and Paste from the iPhoto Window gets your iPhoto Previews. These are missing metadata, middle quality versions of your photos.
Exporting your photos means you can choose to export at higher quality and write the metadata to the files in the process.
You can also choose what to export: Originals, Edited versions, different formats, different naming structures.
You won't have a change in file size if you export your original. If you export to Jpeg you can choose the amount of compression applied, or losslessly to png or tiff.
Put it this way: copy/paste or drag/drop are a handy way to get a quick copy of a shot. If you want a quality version use the export options.

How can I copy a photo from iphoto to PReview to make it smaller for uploading to a site that requires a smaller image?

I don't think you need Preview.
Select the image and use File->export and you have full control over the size and compression.

  • How do I copy a photo in iphoto

how do I copy a photo in iphoto.  When i highlight the photo and then press the control and mouse button the copy option is greyed out.

The UX on iPhoto is simply attrocious. If I import an image - why can I simply not copy it to the clipboard? If I right click on an image the copy item is disabled. Why? This makes no sense and simply frustrates the **** out of me as a user.
The only way I have found to copy the image to the clipboard is to Share the image by emailing it to myself and then downloading the image to my hard drive. Which relies on an internet connection of course. Do you really force the user to do this?
Can this issue please be rectified as it is really truly pants.

  • How can I Copy/backup photos in iphoto to external drives smaller than iPhoto library

How can I Copy/backup photos in iphoto to external drives smaller than iPhoto library?  I have several 128 GB SSD's that I want to use to copy/backup all my iPhoto photographs for a permanent archive due to stability...but my iPhoto library is larger than the drives (about 234 GB) so it would require two of the SSD's...how best to get the original photos onto the SSD's?  I'm running Yosemite and iPhoto 9.6...thx.

Terrence - Can you explain what you mean by data loss?  In the iPhoto Library?  Or on the copy?
Larry - In what way is each photo "degraded"?  Quality?  Isn't it simply making an an exact copy, in this case a jpeg, as would happen if I dragged and dropped a different file type?  Is there another type of degradation?
I am working on trying to create a correct backup as well (per your instructions) but I wanted to use this as a "put in a fireproof safe" archive on very small SSD's that would never have a mechanical hard drive problem (we've lost a couple over time so aren't real confident in their staying power)...I also recognize that I I won't have newer photos in this archive group but at least it would have 98% of our photos in another off-site location...at least that's the thought...
Thx for your input and look forward to more in your reply...

    As  to iPhoto
Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
For iMovie support please post in the iMovie forum

  • How to copy photos from iphoto to windows hard drive

I wanna back up my iphoto to windows hard drive.
    thanks.

I share the Mac iPhotos folder \\COUNTERPWN\Pictures\iPhoto Library.photolibrary\Masters and create a shortcut on my windows desktop. If you want you can use Microsoft Synctoy and run it whenever you want to back them up. Kind of reverse order, instead of going from Mac to Windows to backup, go from Windows to Mac and back again. lol hope that made sense.
Just make sure you have File Sharing selected and Windows Sharing on in prefrence for you iPhoto folder.

  • Moving photos from iPhoto to NAS Device

    Hello.
I'm having a difficult time copying photos from my library and then transferring them to my NAS device once I've edited my photos in iPhoto. It seems as though I can only transfer/move the iPhoto library file and not my actual photos. I use iPhoto 11 to edit photos and then would like to move those edited photos to my NAS device so I can view these photos on all my network computers. I have a new Macbook Pro Retina Display and my NAS device is a Synology ds212J. This device is a media server so I can view these photos on my tv and other connected devices. Does anyone know how I can accomplish the above? I'm new to the Mac environment and need some help with this problem. I'm sure there has to be a fix for this as it seems so seemless for my Windows computers to do the same.
    Thanks much.

    Think of it this way:
Open a file in a photo editor - say Photoshop, Acorn, Graphic Converter, whatever...
    Fix Red eye.
    Save.
What happens? The file containing the photo is edited. The Modification date is changed. There's no way back to the photo before the fixing of the red eye.
Try do that in iPhoto (or similar apps: Picasa, Ligthroom, Aperture)
Open a file... Well you can't. You have to import it to a database first. So, that done, now you view the photo.
Fix red eye. Okay. There's no 'Save' you just move to the next picture.
Now look at the file you imported. Notice anything about the modification date? It hasn't changed. Open the file in another app. Notice anything? Like the Red-eye isn't fixed...
iPhoto will never edit the original file. It's called version control. It means that you can always revert back to the original. It preserves the original like a film shooter preseves the negative.
You don't want that. You want to edit the original. So, use a photo editor, something that edits the original file, uses no database and works the way you want.
In order of price here are some suggestions:
    Seashore (free)
    The Gimp (free)
    Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
    Acorn ($50 approx)
    Pixelmator ($50 approx)
    Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store.

  • Moving photos to iPhoto Library?

I moved my photos from my PC to a folder within Pictures called Photos. However, when I try to move the photos from there to the iPhoto library nothing happens. This results in them not displaying when I load iPhoto.
A related issue is that I cannot delete folders or photos from a folder in Pictures. The folder or photos appear in Trash after dragging and dropping, but also appear in the folder that they were deleted from.

    How did you move them?
The proper way is to quit iPhoto '08 on your Mac, move the iPhoto library out of the Pictures folder to the desktop and then copy your PC photos to a desktop folder - then import those photos into iPhoto (drag and drop onto the iPhoto icon in the dock or use the file ==> import menu)
As soon as you are happy with the results you can delete the old iPhoto library and the PC photos from your desktop
You should NEVER make any changes to the iPhoto Library within the pictures folder by any method other than running the iPhoto program
I also suggest that you download Old Toad's back up automator script and use it often

  • Can't drag and drop or copy multiple photos from iPhoto 9.4.2

I am trying to export multiple edited (not originals) photo files from iPhoto to finder (actually to place in my Dropbox folder to share with friends/family). This used to be (in previous versions of iPhoto?) an easy case of dragging and dropping a selection of photos, or even a whole event, to the desired location in Finder. However, this no longer seems to work. It seems like it will as when you select and drag the photos, the 'green plus' symbol appears and remains when I move to drop the selection into finder, but then nothing happens. The photos dont transfer.
I can still drag and drop a SINGLE photo effectively and it saves in the edited form. I also tried selecting the desired photos, chosing copy and then paste in the desired location in finder. But when I chose 'paste' (right click, paste; or edit, paste) in the desired location, it only pastes a limited selection of the photos which I chose to copy. Not all the photos copy across.
I cant understand why this is no longer possible as it used to be one of the classic examples of intuitive file actions that I love Apple for. The only way I can find now is to chose to export the selection or event (file, export) but this is much less easy and requires various decisions about the file quality etc. Using this option with various compression options, I have not been able to replicated the "original" file size which is displayed under 'info' for each photo in iPhoto.
    Any ideas please?
    Tom

Thanks LarryHN thats helpful. I've just tried that and the export 'current' option does indeed re-create the edited photo file with exactly the same file size at that shown in iPhoto. I did consider the 'current' option but was put off by the loss of the metadata with this option. But maybe the old drag and drop approach was the same?
It's curious that the resulting file size from 'export, current' is different (larger in the example I just tried) in comparison to that resulting from 'export, jpeg' (with either the medium or high option selected).
OK there seems to be a couple of reasonable options available although neither is as nice as the simple 'drag and drop' which used to be available!!! Why would they remove that option?? (and yet not for single files?).
    Thanks
    Tom

I have photos in iPhoto on an old hard drive; there were saved with iPhoto 9.4.3. I want to move them to a new laptop that has iPhoto 9.5.1 but I am unable to open the old library on the new laptop. I seem to need an update that I can't access. Any ideas of how I can extract the photos and save them on the new hard drive? (I have the old hard drive connected externally at the moment.)

You should be able to copy the iPhoto Library to the new laptop and open it directly with 9.5.1 -- the following has instructions on how to open a new library: iPhoto '11: Create a new iPhoto library or switch between libraries
