Copying multiple objects-file getting huge

Hello,
First of all im new to Illustrator.  Im working on a project for print that has become rather huge.  Im creating map of a disc golf course and decided to try it out in Illustrator instead of photoshop thinking I can always increase the print size without losing quality if need be.  I started with a few basic items on multiple layers for grass, lakes, buildings, etc.  and then began to create a graphic that I could copy multiple times throughout the image to represent trees.  Everything went well at first but the file size has become so huge and my computer reduced to a crawl.  Im only about halfway done now and dont know what I can do to finish the project.  Questions:
- Is there a more efficient way to copy and paste a vector graphic? Or maybe reduce the load of each of these trees?  Right now they are made with the pen tool and some shading with paintbrush.
- My other thought is maybe break my drawing into 4 tiles and work or each seperate and maybe join in photoshop later.  Is there any way to select and save portions of the image and preserve the layers so I can continue working with the image as 4 seperate files?
- If I do seperate them what would be the best method to rejoin for print.  There may be a need to print this at 2x3 feet.  Im sure if I did it in Photoshop I may run into a huge filesize again just to get a good quality image for a 2x3.
heres a shot from early on to give you an idea
Thanks,
Brad

If you are bringing artwork from Photoshop into Illustrator, save the artwork as a PSD and use File > Place to import it, making sure that Link is checked in the File dialogue.
If you intend to use an object or image several times, consider making it a Symbol. Just click the New Symbol button at the bottom of the Symbols panel. If you are using a placed image, fist click on Embed in the Control panel at the top of the screen before making the symbol. Artwork used for symbols is stored only once in the Illustrator file.
If you don’t need to import the Illustrator file into another program later, such as InDesign, then do a Save As and turn off the Create PDF Compatible File. With the option on Illustrator saves both the editable Illustrator file and a high resolution PDF with all artwork embedded. With the option off files can be dramatically smaller.

  • Multiple object files using Pro*C/C++

We are trying to build an executable from several .pc files. Compilation and linking are OK, but at run-time we find that Oracle always use the context of the first invoked transaction from (from any .pc files). Subsequent transactions in different object files simply failed with different reasons (since they have used the wrong context).
The program works fine if we manually edit the generated C file to assign different sqlctx value (the line static unsigned int sqlctx = 1)
We don't think this is acceptable except if Oracle is expecting us to build application from one large source file?
    Any help?

I had the same problem, but only on Linux version of Pro*C/C++ 8.1.5. I guess it is a bug. Anyway, I used to precompile the program on Windows NT and then to compile it on Linux. So the error is in precompiler.
You can also find previous postings regarding this subject with some additional proposals, but no one really solved this problem.

  • Why did my file get huge?

I'm working on a long document in CS5.5 that's mostly text; there are only 4 linked BW images in ~140 pages. I needed to export it for someone who is working in CS4, so following the instructions, I updated to 7.5.2, then exported the IDML. I then saved the document and the file size grew from about 19MB to 103MB.
What's more, the exported IDML file is only 535KB. The raw text file that I placed, which makes up 98% of the InDesign document is 1.1 MB.
Now here's something I find really interesting... I opened the IDML file in CS5.5 and saved the results (which seem to be identical to the original ID document) and it weighs in at only 9MB.
    Any thoughts? (Besides WTF?)
    Thanks.
    [Mac OS X 10.7.3]

It worked for me, too, and the file that had grown to 1,766,796 KB went back down to a very reasonable 35,872 KB.
The only (very slight) problem I encountered is that when I re-opened the file, the page numbering had shifted so that page 1 was page 302 (previously the last page in my file), so I had to adjust that.
Everything else seems fine, and I am very grateful.
The only thing I can find for why this happens is that "somehow" the file gets corrupted and that doing the IDML export fixes it.

  • Editing InCopy stories in InDesign layout- InCopy file gets huge

Lately, I am experiencing file size issue. When I go into my layout to check out an InCopy story; check it back in after I do my edits- the file size suddenly gets much larger. It would start of 160k and then becomes 2MB file. Could this be an update issue or am i using "x" amount of conditional text? My editor uses InCopy on a PC and I use a mac.
    thanks!

Hello, I did try your suggestion and the InCopy file still got larger. I even re-created the layout into a new document. It started out to be okay but I still got the same issue when i check in/out the incopy story.
It is puzzling because I have another layout with about the same amount of layers/conditional text, images and i have no problems so far with that InCopy file getting large.

  • Daily.out file getting huge, help

Hoping to get your help on a space/hard drive issue.
Recently I've developed some space problems on my current macbook pro. When I scan my hard drive it looks like the daily.out log file is now taking up over 4.6GB of space. Wondering why this file is so big and what I can do about it. Any suggestions?
    Thanks a bunch-
    ~greg

    /private/var/log/daily.out, is that?
You can just delete it, but it woul be best to take a look into it first to find out what's causing it to be so huge. Mine goes back three months and is only 180k, so something on your machine is writing waaaay too much to the logfile.
Open Applications/Utilities/Console, and pick daily.out from the list on the left. Press "show log list" if you don't have a list. It may take a little while due to the size.
Have a skim through looking for what's doing most of the logs.

  • Pdf file gets huge when attached to an e-mail

A very strange problem. Yesterday, I received an e-mail with a pdf attachment that was 10MB.  When I saved the attachement to a fold, it became 9.6kb.  I created a new e-mail and attched the smaller saved version of the pdf.  It showed as 10MB in the e-mail.  The same thing happened to another e-mail pdf attachment that I received this morning.  I even inserted an older pdf file from my computer into a new e-mail.  Same thing.  This is making it very difficult to send e-mails with pdf attachment, as they are too large for some to receive.  the sender of the original e-mail is also seeing it in the sent e-mail as 10 MB.
I have windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP 3;  Acrobat reader 9.3

First of all: what e-mail client are you using?
Do you use Adobe Reader to send the PDF file, or you simply attach the PDF to a message you are composing?  That message, what format is it - plain text, HTML, RTF?
Anyway, I have a very hard time to understand how a file of 9.6KB can show up more than a 1000 times larger (10MB) as a PDF attachment!  Does your e-mail client give the exact size of the attachment, additionally to the total size of the message?

  • Can Multiple Objects be copied into Sales Order??????

    Hi,
I have created three charecteristics and assigned to a class of class type 001. In the classification view of material master for each material i assigned the class. This assignment is done for calling the object at sales order level.
I am able to find the multiple objects for single characteristics in sales order but multiple objects are not copied into sales order..only single object is copied into sales order...when i try to copy multiple objects system is throwing warning message as "You can only copy one object in this mode".... Is it possible to copy multiple objects ?? Any answers will be highly appreciated.
    Ramagiri.

    Hi,
But what's the purpose behind that.Material Class 001 is just only for information purpose only to search the materials with help of class and characterstic.
If your material is configuable one then you have to use Class type 200 - Material (Configurable Objects) and for the same you have maintain the characterstic value during sales order creation.

  • Can you copy multiple audio (text to speech) files from one slide onto a new slide at once?

Can you copy multiple audio (text to speech) files from one slide onto a new slide at once? OR do you have to copy and paste each line of text to speech and insert into new slide?

    Hi there
I believe that you end up with a single file that you can use. Once you get that created, it's an audio file in the library. You may then add the audio file to another slide or object by looking in the Library after choosing to add audio.

  • Yosemite 10.10.1 will not allow me to copy multiple files to a NAS -error file in use, but other OS OK.

I am running Mac OS 10.10.1 on a Mac Mini with 16G.
I have a Buffalo NAS and wanted to copy files from one folder on the NAS  to another on the NAS.
Under Yosemite I can only copy them one at a time. If I try to copy more than one I get an error message that the file is in use.
Under SNS 10.6.3 (running under Parallels) I can easily copy a large number of files.
Again under 10.10.1 I get the same problem when copying from my desktop to the NAS.
The files are definitely not in use elsewhere and in any case if they were I wouldn't be able to copy one at a time.
When I try to copy multiple files the OS creates greyed out icons of all the files to copy and then aborts when it actually tries to copy the first file.
Any clues please, my current work around is to compress all the files to move, move the archive, expand the archive. This is not going to work for very large numbers of files - l'll be at it all day.
    Tony

I have been unable to drag and drop large files, even onto the Desktop, let alone onto my NAS - I get the dragged files freezing in the middle of the screen or I get the 'unable to copy / file in use' error.
Talking to Apple Support, they had me set up a new User, and then within that new account, the trouble went away. This pointed to the StartUp items being run in the original troublesome account,
I have deleted all of my 3rd Party programs and then installed them one by one until the problem came back, and in my case (Macbook Air 5,2 running 10.10.3 Yosemite) I found it was DropBox causing the conflict. I have DropBox running in the Menu Bar (top of screen) and disabling sync (bottom left corner) stopped the file copy problem. Try disabling DropBox sync is file copying is failing?

  • I can no longer copy multiple files by clicking on the first file and holding the shift key and clicking on the last file. This worked until recently. I must have hit the wrong button at some point

I have been able to copy multiple photos on my Mac Book Pro by selecting the first picture and then holding the shift key while I select the last picture. This highlights all the pictures and then I can use the copy command. Recently that ability to select multiple photos (or files) has stopped working. I can only guess that I hit a combination of buttons that caused this feature to stop working. Any ideas on how to get this working again.
    Thanks - Mike

Your Template code is incomplete / corrupted.
That's why you can't edit it.
Try opening your .dwt file in a plain text editor like NotePad.  Remove the editable regions from code.  Save.  Open in DW.
You will need to SaveAs Template (same name as the one used by your child pages).  Add editable regions to match the ones in your child pages.  Save.

  • Copying multiple files to multiple locations

I'll give you as much background detail as possible to help explain this one.
We've made ourselves a little filemaker application, and at the moment I'm just working on creating a final disc image for it.
I figure I'm going to create an Automator application script on the DVD-ROM that will copy the contents to the Application folder, which is easy enough.
    Here comes the tricky part.
From time to time we'll be wanting to send out software updates. This software links multiple files into Filemaker from various folders.
When we send out an updates disc, I want to have an Automator script that will copy all the files on the update disc to the same folder names stored on the computer's hard drive.
ie, all files in folder A on the DVD will be copied to folder A on the hard drive.
and all files in folder B on the DVD will be copied to folder B on the hard drive.
    etc etc
I'm not even really sure on where to start to build this script. There's a good 50 odd folders to do this for.
I'm also wondering whether I'll need to input the full pathname of the destination or not. This could be problematic if someone has renamed their Macintosh HD to something else. Is is possible to just get it to look for the Applications folder as the destination?
hope thats clear enough. feel free to ask if you need more info.

    Hi.
Have you considered the implementation of an installation package (.pkg), using the PackageMaker tool.
    Good Luck

  • Captivate 6 copying multiple files on Desktop while recording

    Description
When I am recording with Adobe Captivate 6, it is copying multiple files on my laptop desktop automatically. They are all full motion shock wave flash files? Is there a setting I can adjust so it does not do this or is there a reason why it does this? When I recorded a two minute software simulation, it put about 20 files on my desktop. I deleted them all and started over and it is doing it gain. I've attached what my desktop looks like with the icons with just four of them.

I followed you instruction but it didn't work.
I am doing the video demonstration recording and it shows the fmr file types on my desktop.
The default is showing to my Desktop.
    C:\Users\COONCE\Documents\Adobe Captivate Cached Projects
When I try to enter the path they gave, My Documents\My Adobe Captivate Projects, I get an alert that is not a valid location. I tried changing it to Libraries\Documents\My Adobe Captive Projects but it still puts them on my desktop. Am I just entering the wrong path?

  • I was able to copy all my files from my Time Capsule, but that is all they are...files. How do I get my new Mac Mini to emulate my other Mac?

I was able to copy all my files from my Time Capsule, but that is all they are...files. How do I get my new Mac Mini to emulate my other Mac?

    Doggiemommie,
Copying files is not a good idea.
The "other Mac" was backed up onto Time Capsule using the Time Machine. On your new Mac you should restore the old user - rather than copy files manually.
This usually happens during the initial setup of the new computer or you can do it later using Migration Assistant.
Please note, it is possible to damage backup file on the Time Capsule when you browse it and copy files manually.
    Hope this explains.

My suggestion to use the smart playlist was more along the lines of making one list with rules to show everything in your library as long as it was kind "mpeg" (= mp3).
Smart playlists cannot be edited manually, only by changing the rules.  You can use them as the basis for another smart playlist though.
There is added overhead to using smart playlists, so don't go overboard.

Well, iCloud has nothing to do with this.
Do you have the built-in backup function Time Machine running on your Mac?
