    Hello there, gleab.
The following Knowledge Base article reviews the ways to import content into iTunes:
Adding music and other content to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1473
Also keep in mind which formats can be added:
You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • ITunes won't copy music files to Media folder when songs are dragged

I am trying add songs from my external hard drive to my iTunes Library.
I have the following options checked:
    "Keep iTunes Media folder organized."
"Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library."
In the past, I could just drag files from my hard drive into the iTunes song list and add them to the library. iTunes would successfully make a copy of the file to the iTunes Media folder so that I could disconnect the hard drive and still play the songs.
Suddenly, this no longer works. iTunes won't make a copy of the file anymore. It won't even make a copy of files located on my desktop.
I found a workaround -- copy the files from my hard drive to the desktop. Then I have to go to File > Add to Library in order for it to work.
It's an extra step, but it was VERY annoying to have to figure out.
So my question -- Is this an iTunes bug or some kind of deliberate attempt at making it hard to use files not purchased through iTunes?
I noticed this on one of the Apple support pages (my emphasis):
Copying music to and keeping the iTunes Media folder organized
You can select these options on the Advanced pane of iTunes preferences:
"Keep iTunes Media folder organized." Learn more about how iTunes 9 and later organizes your media.
"Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library." Select this option to store all your media files in the iTunes Media folder. Since it's all in one location, you can easily transfer or back up your media. When you purchase or import media into iTunes from a CD, it's automatically added to your iTunes Media folder. If you add media to iTunes another way (choosing "Add to library" from the File menu or by dragging an MP3 file into iTunes), it might not be added to your iTunes Media folder.
    Well, why the heck not??

I have posted so many issues to APPLE on the staggering lack of  basic functionality with itunes and each time they keep deleting it.
Automatically Addd feature does not work consistently if the library is on NAS or a drive not on the same bok as the Mac, iMac or PC.
iTuns will hang if you have the finder window open  and the recently added playlist open
itunes will not add files automatically  if more than three phases of adding folders to the automatically add to itune folder is refreshed
Once could even jump to the conclusion that the software testing and Quality Control in the iTunes development team had missed out whole chunks of tsting OR that the test designers wrote such basic test scripts which did not replicate real world useage.

If the above option is too much work you may want to look into iRip which you can find information on it at http://thelittleappfactory.com/irip/ there are other software out there starting from free and going up in price, but iRip has a free demo to recover 100 tracks.

how do i copy music from one ipod to another with 1 cord?

You cannot copy content directly from one iPod to another. If the music was purchased from the iTunes Store, you have the following options:
    - sync the iPod to your computer, transfer the content to iTunes, and then connect the other iPod and sync from iTunes
    - use iCloud (which requires iOS 5).
    - download the music from from the iTunes Store to the second iPod. See:

Was your wife logged into the libray at the time you tried to log in? I have had a similar problem and it was because another user was logged into the library when I attempted to. I got the permission denied banner.

  • Nokia N93 and copying music from a Mac with Nokia ...

I recently just got a Nokia N93. I am able to use iSync with it thanks to a plug-in.
I have had some success using syncTunes v1.6 to copy music files over to the memory card when the phone is connected with the USB cable. But the playlists do not work.
I did download and install the Nokia Music Manager for the N70 (I believe).
Will the Music Manager work with an N93? I am actually seeing the music on the phone but the app says iTunes is not available.
I am using Mac Os 10.4.8, iTunes 7.01. I have installed v1.02 of the Nokia Music Manager.
Will there be a release for the N93 or should the current version work?

I have been happily using Sync Tunes the last few months.
Recently, I started playing around with making smart playlists in iTunes. What I wanted to do was create a random play list of tracks to copy on a daily basis to my phone.
I ran into all kind of fun with audio file formats. It turns out the many of my audio files are encoded as M4A and MP4. These will not play on the Nokia N93.
Fortunately, I found a web-site (http://smartplaylists.com/) explaining how to filter out these kind of audio tracks in the smart play list. The built in help in iTunes is very poor in this regard.
The following link is to explanation on how to select file types in smart play lists.
    http://smartplaylists.com/comments.php?id=729_0_1_0_C
Now I can create a playlist that is 950 M of audio tracks and I then use sync tunes to copy it across.

  • How do I copy music and video from my iPod to a new PC?

My itunes PC no longer works.  How can I copy music and video from my iPod to a new PC?

You can't transfer music from an iPod to a PC.  Apple do not provide that facility.  It can be done with third party software though.  There are a variety of these available though so search google for 'ipod to itunes'.

  • Copying music b/w 2 iPods on 1 Computer

I would like to copy music from my iPod to another iPod on a different computer using a different iTunes account. When I hook up my iPod on the other computer, I can see my music, however, I can't just click and drag the music to the other iPod when both are connected. How do I go about doing this?

    Hi Kelly
Itunes and apple have restrictions on copying music from one computer to another. You can't do ipod 2 ipod (that im aware of) but you can copy from ipod using these methods.
If you want to copy not all of your ipods music to another computer you can use many programs and 3rd party applications
If you want to copy the whole of your ipods music videos ect this is a good way to do it manually
The cheapest way to do this is
You need to be able to view hidden files on your computer , you need to go to the control panel and find folder options. (i believe that you could change the settings on in the windows explorer by clicking view at the top menu bar. you need to click it so that you can see the hidden files. (i think this explains simply what i said Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and then check (enable) the option “Show hidden files and folders.”)
Next find your ipod now if you have enabled hidden files you need to click on your ipod and find a folder called ipod control. the folder itself will look different maybe a bit transparent because it is hidden. Next you will go in and if you explore further you will see loads of files (transparent like ipod control) with things like F34 F01 (or F1) etc.
They are the files with your music on it and if you click on them, they will show music files but they wont have names. they are encrypted with file names like AKLY (basically four letters or 3 letters put together in capitals) so to get the names and other suff back simply drag the music files into itunes or import them individually (the folders) into itunes by clicking file, import into itunes and by folder.
Then once you have done this the names should be correct in Itunes.
Alternitavely you can drag all the files in 'ipod control' into an external Hard Drive if you go into itunes prefrences you can let itunes put all your music on your computer into organized files of album names.
Hope that Helped (if you don't understand what i said this guide is pretty good http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-co mputer/P0)
Also if your willing to spend money by doing all of this in one click then this program for £14 (not sure in $) is really good. the free version (does 5 songs at a time) but the great thing is, is that it transfers directly to itunes you can get it here http://www.findleydesigns.com/
Here is a list of other programs (quoted from Zevoneeer) like this that some are free and others are not.
If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here (you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well):

  • How can I copy music from iTunes to a 2nd iPhone 5?

I have my own iPhone 5 that i have synced and set up with my itunes on my macbook pro.  My wife recently got an iphone 5 (thru her work) that i want to copy music from my itunes library to her phone.  We share the same itunes acct and she is able to make purchases with it and download songs that i have purchased via itunes to her phone.  I would like to manage and copy over addiontal music (most of which i had bought on my own and imported into itunes) and copy playlists etc to her phone.
She has not synced her phone to my (or any) computer. When i hook up her iphone to my macbook and open itunes, it prompts me to "set up new iphone" either as a brand new phone or from a backup.  can i get around this, so i can manage the music on her iphone without deleting and "setting up from scratch her phone"?  I have read that i can manually manage everything on her phone separately from my phone... so her apps aren't on my phone and vice versa?  I really just want to put my music on there.
I have heard of some other apps (ie songbird) but prefer to keep everything working under itunes.
    Thanks

Not brand new... New to that Mac's iTunes. For registration if you will...
Setup the iPhone as a new device to get past the initial part. iTunes will know that the device is already set up and you can go from there.

  • Is there a way of copying music from the ipod

my pc got wiped so i need a way of copying music from my ipod to itunes is there a way?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
