Copying oracle software
Hi,
I wish to clone Oracle software 10g to different node with same OS and use it there. What additional manual steps do I need to perform to have the valid Oracle home on Red Hat (oratab, orainventory).
Regards
Hi,
I have used Cloning OH on Linux x86-64 and everything passed regularly, but I have now one problem.
I always get the next messages when try to start sqlplus or lsnrct utility.
sqlplus: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.10.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[oraprod@mihrmsdbTEST ~]$ lsnrctl status
lsnrctl: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.10.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
[oraprod@mihrmsdbTEST ~]$ lsnrctl status
lsnrctl: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.10.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Some problem with packages or something else.

Copy Oracle Database /Software
I have an Production IBM AIX server that has our Oracle 8.1 database on it. Then I have a different test environment IBM AIX server. Is there a way to copy the Oracle database from the production to my the test environment?
Thanks in advanceHello
Yes, there is a way.
I suppose You install oracle software in test environment.
Create a cold or hot backup (or rman) from production DB. Copy all related files - $ORACLE_BASE/admin/<YOUR SID> to test server.
If DB files' path the same as production then You can start DB, if not, You must change filename with alter database rename file 'old path' to 'new path'; in mount mode.
Do not remember from password file.

Oracle Software Packager.
Hi,
I'm trying to install Oracle Software Packager version 1.7.0.20.0A
on a Win2000 Server and the setup.exe program won't run. I installed
JDK 1.1.8 for Microsoft Windows, set CLASSPATH and PATH environment
variables. The release notes states that it runs on Win2000 Professional
Workstation with no mention of Win2000 server. If it works on Win200 Prof,
shouldn't it work on Win2000 Server??
Thx,
JohnIt turns out that JDK1.1.8 won't work correctly on
Pentium 4 machines. Old versions of symcjit.dll
cause Oracle's setup not to run on P4 machines.
This is what worked for me:
1. Copy the contents of the \install directory to a temporary
directory on
your harddisk.
2. Search for all copies of the 'symcjit.dll' file, and rename them
to
symcjit.old'.
3. Go to the \install directory and open the 'oraparam.ini' file
for
editing.
Please note this file is write-protected.
4. Change the JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS parameter to
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m
5. Save the oraparam.ini file.
6. Start the installation again.
The answer was found here: http://www.orafaq.com/msgboard/sqlnet/messages/1514.htm
It would be nice if Oracle put this info in the friggin release notes
for the software packager. But, I guess that would be too much work.
Why does the packager still use such an old version of java??? Anyhow,
thanks Oracle for wasting 2 days of my time.. -
Have installed SOA Suite 10.1.3.4 and Weblogic 9.2. Everything looks good. I can access BPEL, ESB, etc through Weblogic and 10gAS. When installing AIA with option 'Copy AIA Software Only', I got the following error. Looks like the installer is looking for the SOAHome. How can I set it up. Doesn't seem to have a field in the installer. Anyone has ideas.... Thanks.

Exception Severity: 0Hi,
What you are experiencing is the expected behavior. When doing a manual install, you will install using the Copy only
option and then it would fail with the error you are noticing, but the files and AIA product should be installed successfully.

Per Note: 852222.1 Installing AIA Foundation Pack on Oracle SOA Suite Cluster Deployments
This is a note on how to install SOA on cluster environment, but the information I want to show you suggests
what you are encountering is expected.
See below:
5.1 Setting up APPHOST 1 and APPHOST2
Important: The following steps have to be performed in both APPHOST1 and APPHOST2
1. Launch the AIA installer as per instructions in the AIA Installation Guide. Provide the AIA Home
directory and choose the option “Copy AIA Software Only” option.Choosing this option and clicking ‘Next’ and ‘Install’, should directly copy only the content to the selected AIA Home without prompting for SOA Server, Database or Service Registry information. If you get an error message choose “Stop the Installation” and click OK. The software copy only action is still successful.

Installing oracle on Linux using the SAP version of oracle software
Hello All,
I am trying to install 32bit oracle software on Linux 32 bit os using the SAP version of Oracle Install Software downloaded from marketplace. I have downloaded the required exe and rar files and unpacked them on my PC. The unpacked folder is uploaded in bin mode to the respective server under a common mountpoint. In the folder i have 4 .SAR files with other label files etc. I want to unarchive these .SAR files to get the runInstaller but running in to issues.
Here are the steps I tried:
1. I copied the SAPCAR exe from exe directory and tried to unpack the 4 .SAR files but got permission error. All these 4 .SAR files are owned by ora<sid> user id. I tried to do all these under root user still it fails.
ora<sid>@xxxyysapdbXX:/sapdata//Oracle32/51031674> SAPCAR -xvf OR110232.SAR
-bash: ./SAPCAR: cannot execute binary file
what am i missing?
Any help is greatly appreciated. If you have a 32bit OS then you need to use the 32bit binaries of SAPCAR - yes.
And:
Usually those SAR files are unpacked by the installation program sapinst, why do you unpack them manually?

Error in installing Oracle Software while adding node in RAC
Hi All
Oracle Version: 11.1.0.6.0
Linux
In the RAC environment, I am in the process of adding a node to the existing rac environment.
I have succssfully installed cluster software in the new node. all gsd, ons and vip services are running perfectly for new node in the existing and new nodes.
Next step, I started installing oracle software by executing the script $ORACLE_HOME/oui/bin/addNode.sh.
Here after specifying the the new node information (public host, private host and vip details) and when I pressed next,
OUI is giving following error - "Error occured while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured".
I ran olsnodes -n, it is giving proper node number.
Can somebody help me in identifying the problem and solution.
ThanksI am hitting the same issue, my problem was when I added the new node initially it fails because of the hint8-priv1. I followed the link below to remove and cleanup the last install. olsnode show only my existing nodes NOT including the new node.
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B12037_01/rac.101/b10765/adddel.htm
then I ran
./addNode.sh -silent CLUSTER_NEW_NODES={hint-8} CLUSTER_NEW_PRIVATE_NODE_NAMES={hint8-priv1} CLUSTER_NEW_VIRTUAL_HOSTNAMES={hint8-vip}
I am getting this when use command line:
Error ocurred while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured.
SEVERE:Error ocurred while retrieving node numbers of the existing nodes. Please check if clusterware home is properly configured.
also run addNode.sh via GUI, the new node name still listed and can't continue.
BTW, adding new node should support online, shutdown is not required -
Using Oracle Software Illegally
Before i start, i just want all of you guys to know i have no intention of using Oracle Software illegaly.
Anyone can download Oracle 10g Software from Oracle's website. Right?
Lets say we have a Company and we need Oracle Database software to run our business. What if our company chooses not to pay a single penny to Oracle corporation and use the oracle software which we've downloaded by hiring an expert DBA. Will Oracle Corporation, ever be able to know that we are using Oracle Database software without paying the licence unless we seek technical Support from Oracle.
Will the freely downloaded Oracle Software work for multi-CPU machines? In general, yes, once you get past the "prototype" phase, you need to license all your environments. What, exactly, defines the end of a "prototype" phase is obviously a bit sticky, but if you have a "production" environment, that almost always means that the development environment needs to be licensed.
Of course, any licensing questions should really be directed to Oracle Sales, who are the only ones that can provide a binding agreement. There may be wrinkles here based on the laws in your country, your existing licensing agreements, your relationship with Oracle, your particular business model, etc. Should you get caught in a disagreement about licensing, explaining that "some guy on the internet" (whether or not he has a playing card next to his name) told you that something was acceptable is not likely to go over well.

Application and Oracle software in One file system.
DB Version:11g
We have a relatively busy OLTP financial application installed on the same file system as oracle software (ORACLE_HOME). Is it a good idea to install applications on the same file system as ORACLE_HOME? Will Oracle recommend this?ExpansiveMind wrote:

We have a relatively busy OLTP financial application installed on the same file system as oracle software (ORACLE_HOME). Is it a good idea to install applications on the same file system as ORACLE_HOME?This is a fairly common scenario. As long as
- you have a decent system administratoir who knows how to monitor disk I/O and that monitoring does not show I/O contention
- you have decent (tested) backups and a good database backup strategy
- you are happy with performance
- your compliance auditors are satisfied
then there should be no real issue.
Will Oracle recommend this?Oracle will probably not get involved other than to discuss High Availability scenarios and point you to things like the Maximum Availability Architecture white papers at http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/htdocs/maa.htm .
Now if you contracted their consulting/services group, they would likely do an evaluation of your specific needs and likely recommend separating things as a result of that evaluation. -
Which account use to install Oracle software?
Hi!
Windows 2003 Server SP2
Oracle 10gR2
I have a question to experience Oracle database administrators...
Is there any differences between installing RDBMS from "Administrator" account and installing RDBMS from separate account with administrators privilege?
I'm not asking about procedures of installation.
I suspect that creator in file system will be different.
There will be any other differences? In registry hive? In files of installed software?
If Oracle software will be installed from "Administrator" account and after that I will create "other" account with administrator privilage and member of "ora_dba" group and use this "other" account to managed installed software I will have any problems?
Thanks for any advice.Hello,
No, I've always installed Oracle with an "Administrator account" and, I don't remember
having a specific problem.
Anyway, if there's a problem which can prevent the installation, OUI will send you a
popup (for instance to stop a Service).
More over, you can check the installation "logs" also.
Best regards,

Hi!
I tried to install SAP NetWeaver 7.1 with Oracle 10 under Windows Server 2003 64bit in english fully updated. But I ran into two problems which prevented the SAP installation to finish : first once all the oracles updates were installed, the oracle wintows service would not start; second sapinst never managed to find the oracle installation and always answered "Oracle Software not installed".
For this installation I downloaded all the installation files from the SAP download center like this :
- On http://service.sap.com/swdc in the left frame : download/installation and upgrades/entry by application group
- then in the center frame : SAP NetWeaver/SAP NetWeaver/SAP NETWEAVER CE 7.1/Installation/Windows Server/Oracle/
- I added everything to the Download basket but "Oracle 10.2.0.2.0 Patch for AIX 64bit" and "Oracle 10.2.0.2.0 Patch for Solaris 64bit"
- then I took the last patch for Oracle 10 on the SAP download center :
- on http://service.sap.com/swcenter-3pmain in the left frame : Oracle/Oracle 64-bit/Oracle 10.2.0 64bit/Oracle 10.2.0.2/NT_x86_64
- I added the last patch to the download basket
Then I followed this installation steps :
installation of the last jdk : jdk-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe
installation of Oracle 10.2.0.1 with : Oracle10.2.0.1-51031678\NT\I386\sapserver.cmd
installation of the last update for oracle 10.2.0.2 with : DVD_ORACLE_10.2.0.2_Patches_WIN_AIX_SOL\NT\I386\setup.exe
=> I had a problem with the installation of the patch chich detected the wrong version of windows so I forced it with : OPATCH_PLATFORM_ID=233 (I checked it before, it should really be the right one)
installation of the last patch of oracle :

installation of NetWeaver 7.1 with SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 SP3 for Oracle - 51032969\DATA_UNITS\CE71_03_IM_WIN_X86_64_ORA\sapinst.exe

===> *PB* : at this point of the sap installation, I got an error "Oracle Software not installed" without any details. I didn't find any help on that either. It seems to come from a registry key missing...
After that, I uninstalled (with removal of the right keys in the registry to have something clean (<a href="http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14316/deinstall.htm">url</a>)) Oracle many times and tried different installation steps : without the patches, with the patches but without the update (doesn't work), with the patch 15, with the patch 16. In each cases Oracle service wasn't working if a patch was installed. And in each cases the sap installation never detected an Oracle installation. This installation steps are very reproductibles and are problemful.
Could anybody have some pointers or help on that one ?
Thanks in advance,
FlorianHello Friends,
I tried the AMD64 based Installation Source to install Oracle 10g. and It works.
I also applied sufficient patches (AMD64/x86_64 based) to Oracle, as required. It worked fine, without giving that "Platform not compatible" error, as it was giving me before.
Now,I have got that , my machine was expecting x86_64 based Installation of Oracle .
I was little bit confused between x86, x64, x84_64, I386,etc..etc..terms...
Thanks to Markus and other friends.
The problem was due to mix installation of 32bit + 64bit Oracle Software & Patches. Previously, i installed i386 based Oracle, which is 32 bit version. Then i tried AMD64 based Installation source of Oracle RDBMS. It workes.
Previously, I was applying x86_64 based Oracle patches 16 & 17 on 32-bit Oracle version, thats why definitely it was giving error of "Platform not compatible", because it was expecting 64Bit Oracle version to implement that patch.
But, now, i successfully applied these two required Oracle 10.0.2.0 patches(16 & 17),on this 64Bit Oracle. (AMD64 based Installation source).
Then, I had run SAPInst of Installation Master (Win_x86_64) and started the Installation again. I also gave Oracle RDBMS Client Source location (x86_64 based). Then, also provided other required parameters. Now, the SAPInst worked fine, without that "Oracle Software not Installed" error.
And, Ultimately I successfully installed the SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 on 64Bit Oracle 10g Database Software. Right now, the Server is working fine, without Errors.
Thanks Again..... -
System Copy/ Oracle Backup/Restore as part of migrating from 32 to 64-bit
Source system (I386): R3E47 Ext Set 2.00 SAP_BASIS 620 Kernel 640 Windows 2000, Oracle 10.2.0.4, non-unicode
Target system (x86-64/AMD64): R3E47 Ext Set 2.00 SAP_BASIS 620 Kernel 640 Windows 2000 Oracle 10.2.0.4, non-unicode
Am using method System Copy/ Oracle Backup/Restore to migrate from 32 to 64 bit (HOM System Copy).
Actions on source system:
a) Upgrade from 9.2.0.7 to Oracle 10.2.0.4
b) Used ora_br_copy.bat to generate CONTROL.SQL and init<sid>.ora
c) Switched logfiles
d) Performed offline backup
Actions on target system:
a) Installed Oracle 10.2.0.1 and patched it to 10.2.0.4
b) Used CD 51033746 "6.20/6.40 based products Installation Master (Edition May 2008)" to install the CI
c) Started installation of the DB instance selecting System Copy/ Oracle Backup/Restore (same <SID> for source and target systems)
Relevant input parameters used:
Database schema: SAPR3
Database character set: US7ASCII
d) When SAPINST stopped to allow for restoring of datafiles, logs and init<sid.ora>:
- copied datafiles and logs to the usual place
- copied CONTROL.SQL (edited to include utilrp.sql and utlrp.sql for the migration from 32 to 64) to the DB-instance intallation . directory.
- copied generated init<SID>.ora to the <ORACLE_HOME>\database
e) Resumed SAPINST.
David Byrne in a previous post suggested: "check your oracle alert file in case there are errors there you may need to update the word size for the 64bit install. Errors like this in the oracle alert file would suggest that.,
ORA-12012
ORA-06544: PL/SQL: internal error, arguments: [ORA-06544: PL/SQL: internal error, arguments: 56319], [, ], [, ], [, ], [
ORA-06553"
Well, I am getting ORA-06553: PLS-801: internal error [56319] but then my edited CONTROL.SQL (which is mainly a CREATE CONTROLFILE as it would be obtained with a ...BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE) includes at the end this:
shutdown immediate
startup upgrade
spool utlirp.log
@?/rdbms/admin/utlirp.sql
spool off
Shutdown immediate
Startup
Spool utlrp.log
@?/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql
Spool off
exit
which is supposed to do just that... (I think)
Help, anyone?> Trying to cheer me up, are you?
No
> It is NOT free that reorganization! Quite expensive, actually, paid for in time! But you're right... the database needed a reorg anyway :-\
True, not "free" - it takes time but the data will be nicely aligned then
> And why would I have to reconfigure all those 10.2 features? Everything's either in the database or init<sid>.ora, ain't it? And my database is a pretty 10.2.0.4 with all those nice features already activated...
No - not really auotmatically if you upgraded from 9.2 And "init<SID>.ora" is past, you nowadays use "spfile" If, of course, e. g. Automatic Undo was activated in 9.2 then it's there of course in 10.2 too.
> One sticky point... I haven't really read the r3load procedure yet and I will before I import, but... I would say I don't have to do anything about the 32->64 bit, right? I mean, it should behave properly while reloading on 64-bit...
The exported content is about 10 % of the size of the system, it's database and OS independent so yes, you can import it nicely on 32bit. Another tip: make sure you don't just use the default configurations for R3load, it will take a HUGE amount of time. Use the package splitter (builtin-in in sapinst) so you get a much higher parallelism when importing.

Determing if the installed Oracle software is 32 bit or 64bit
DB version:10GR2
Is there a way to determine if the Oracle software installed is of 32-bit or 64-bit? I found
this
select
length(addr)*4 || '-bits' word_length
from
v$process
where
ROWNUM =1;from: http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_32_bit_64_bit_check.htm
But is this correct? You can see it just entering Sql*Plus :
