Copying pictures onto a USB disk

Every time I try to transfer pictures onto my usb disk from iphoto it says, "The item IMG_(whatever picture it is).JPG cannot be copied because there is not enough free space. It says this when there is absolutely nothing stored on the usb disk and it is a 512 MB... Any suggestions?

No, I was just thinking since there was som little fre space on the USB disk, that if you just went and emptied the Trash without moving that file, that we might get a lot of free space back... just hold the Option key down while clicking on the trash can in yout dock and selecting Emoty Trash.
The first part... in Applications>Utilities, run Disk Utility. Once running click on the USB drive on the left, select the Erase tab then select MS-Dos from the drop down.

  • How do I move/copy pictures to a USB?

I want to move and save some of my pictures in an exteranl hardrive. I am not sure how to properly copy and/or drag a copy of the pictures to a USB. Please help!

You drag and drop them in Finder, much like you would using any other OS. Your USB device will appear on the right hand side under Applications, Movies, Photos etc, and you drag the chosen file and drop onto the connected USB device.

But other packages copy properly to the USB storage device. If I remove : from the file names of packages mentioned above they copy properly. Is this because of the FAT32 file system on my USB disk?
The above mentioned packages copy properly to my home directory which is ext4 file system.
    Any suggestions to correct this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Anand

rsamurti, you asked the moderators to do this:
Please remove : from package file names due to the problems reported in this post. Such packages cannot be copied to FAT32 file systems.
This is up to you. Just "Edit" the post by yourself and mark this section deleted. (See the BBCode help for this.)
And please leave an according comment stating something like the quote above there. It would be valuable information.

  • Copying pictures to a floppy disk... how to ??

I have many pictures in Adobe Photo album. My computer is running out of space and I have a zip file that I can down load them to.. BUT I can't seem to locate where I do that at.

    Hi Debra,
All the pictures which are shown in Album are saved somewhere in your Hard Drive. To find the location of those files in your Hard Drive select the image in Album and see its properties(Alt+Enter). The properties show the location of the files in your drive.Click on the folder in the properties pane to go to that location. You can copy those pictures from the Hard Drive to floppy disk. In the full version of Album there is the Export menu which lets you export the files directly from the application but in Starter Edition the only option is do it from the folder location.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • HT1420 Can I download a movie onto my authorised computer and then copy if onto USB stick to put in the TV?

Can I download a movie onto my authorised computer and then copy if onto a USB to plug into our TV?

If you mean a movie purchased from the iTunes Store then the answer is no. Movies purchased from the iTunes Store are protected by DRM (Digital Rights Management) in this case using Apple's 'FairPlay' scheme and this prevents you simply copying and playing the file.
You can however purchase a movie from the iTunes Store and either play it via iTunes on a Mac or PC which could be connected to your TV, or you can use an Apple TV device which is specifically made for this purpose.
    See http://www.apple.com/appletv/
If on the otherhand you mean just a movie you have downloaded from a website which is nothing to do with Apple's iTunes Store then it very much depends on the format of the movie. Some 'Smart' TVs can play some movie file formats from USB memory sticks. You will need to check the specs of your TV to see what formats it supports.

  • Do you have to down load from the internet using apple's recover partition, every time you need to do a clean install? or can you make a copy of Mt Lion onto a USB stick and install off that?

Do you have to down load Mountain Lion from the internet every time you need to do a clean install? or can you make a copy of Mt Lion onto a USB stick and install off that?
    Thanks

Yes you can make a USB stick of Lion or Mt Lion. Use Lion Disk Maker after you download OS X from the internet.
For Lion you have to point the download to an external drive and watch when it completes and reboots the system to start the install disconnect the external. If you bought Mt Lion from the Mac App Store then you can download it from there and just cancel the install when it comes up on the desktop.
If you are downloading from the Recovery HD or from the Online Internet Recovery system, slightly different then the built in Recovery HD, then again you need to point it to an external drive and discoonect that drive when the system reboots to start the real install.
Then use Lion disk maker to create either a DVD disc or USB thumb of the install files.

  • Disk Copy Utility to Write HFS disk images to USB floppy & ZIP drives?

Is there a disk copy utility that allows one to copy an HFS disk image directly to an attached USB drive, bypassing the Finder? I have both 100MB ZIP & 1.44MB floppy images which need to be restored to original media.

If you don't have a Mac that can read your OS X Installer DVD, then you have no way of putting it onto the USB drive.
Although there is PC software that will enable you to read from and write to Mac formatted drives on a PC, you cannot boot a PC from a Mac installer disc. The only possible solution would be the use of third-party PC software that can read an OS X Installer DVD restore its content to an OS X formatted USB drive. Unfortunately I have no idea if there is such an animal.
Maybe you should just order an external optical drive or a replacement drive for the defective one. You might check out macsales.com. Surely UPS delivers to the "middle of nowhere."

  • HT1351 I've encoded a vinyl LP record into digital format and recorded it onto an usb as MP3 file. But when I tried to copy it onto my ipod classic, I get a message stating "was not copied to the ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod". Why?

I've encoded a vinyl LP record into digital format and recorded it onto an usb as MP3 file. But when I tried to copy it onto my ipod classic, I get a message stating "was not copied to the ipod because it cannot be played on this ipod". Why?

I was refering to the "sample rate", normally 44.1 KHz, the iPod might not be able to play tracks with a non-standard rate. Otherwise I'm not sure what the issue might be.

  • I am trying to dowload pictures onto my macbook pro, but it wont read the USB adapter were all the photos are on?

Hey guys i got a macbook pro and this is the first incident that has happended to me sence i got it i cant figure out why it wont let me download pictures off my usb adapter it wont read it? help

So from your description, the drive isn't mounting on the desktop?
Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities), and see if the drive appears in the left pane. If it does, but it's greyed out, highlight it and wait for a few seconds - eventually the Mount button should become live - click it and see if that clears the problem.
If not, it's possible that the drive has been damaged, usually by removing it without unmounting (ejecting) it first.
If you have access to a Windows machine, it may be possible to mount it on there, eject it properly and try again on the Mac. This has been known to work reasonably frequently.

  • Copying pictures to computer I am seeing multiple "LOCAL DISK" icons

Copying pictures to computer I am seeing multiple "LOCAL DISK" icons in DCIM subfolder that were not there prior to ios8 upgrade. Are they supposed to be there or is it possible virus?

    edit: nevermind - problem solved.
To the OP - It's not a virus, it appears to be a new way Apple has updated it's photos section that summarizes certain elements of each photo.  I found that if you scroll down, you'll find your pictures (if that's what you were looking for).
I also found that you can still "right mouse click" the iPhone icon in My Computer and "import pictures and videos" with no issue.

  • Does every USB-disk contain a full copy

    Hello,
I have a server 2012 on which Windows Server Backup is configured to a pool of 3 USB-disks. Only one disk is connected at a single time. Originally I wanted to create a full backup every night. This seems impossible, the server only creates one full and
    afterwards only incrementals forever?
But I would be fine with just incrementals if I would know for sure, that all three disks contain a full copy on which the incrementals are based later. In a recover scenario every single disk should be enough to recover all files and SQL database if
one or two disks are lost. It shouldn't be necesary that one of the other disks is needed. Can anyone enlighten me on this? Is a single disk in this scenario enough to perform a full recovery? I have googled on this but couldn't find a satisfying
    answer.
    Thanks in advance.

i'm not 100 % sure but i have a fancy such a combination may not play well together.
nothing bigger than 2GB for one file
i was asking because FAT3 has a limitation in that it will not allow you to copy files larger than 4 GB.
