Copying playlist through Home sharing or through any mean

I have a new pc and I'm trying to copy my playlist from the old machine to the new one. I copied all of the music using Home Sharing but it seems you cannot copy a playlist through home sharing.
1. Does anyone know how to copy playlists using Home Sharing or
2. Does anyone know any other method of copying playlists from my old machine to the new?

There is no such thing  as "home sharing sync".
iOS devices can be synced via the cable or if running iOS5 or later via Wi-Fi.
iPods (nano's, classics) must be synced via the cable.

How do I import a playlist on home sharing?  I get the songs, but not packaged in the playlist from which they were imported. Now I have duplicate songs in my music library.

You can't import media from one Home Sharing library to another by any other means except selecting the individual items you want to import. For example, you can't select a playlist and then click on the 'Import' button to import all the items in that playlist. You have to select all the items in the playlist before you can click on the 'Import' button. By extension, the playlist on the other Home Sharing computer will not be re-created on your computer. You can select more than one item using the 'Shift' or 'Command' keys.
What you can do is create a playlist on your computer first, with the same name if you want, and then use drag and drop to copy the media from the remote playlist to your playlist. Note that the playlist on your computer cannot be a 'Smart' playlist it must be a regular playlist for drag and drop copying to work.
Regarding 'Smart' playlists. If you create a 'Smart' playlist on your computer that uses the exact same filtres as the ones on the remote library when you import the media from the remote library they will show up in the same 'Smart' playlist on your computer.

  • How to sync playlists in Home Sharing?

Howdy.  How do I sync playlists in Home Sharing?  I have my Mac Mini as my "Master Jukebox".  It's the main place where purchases and playlists are created.  The problem I have is that I cannot find a way to conveniently sync playlists from "Master Jukebox" to, say, my MBP.  If I am on my MBP and drag a "Master Jukebox" playlist to my MBP, it makes duplicate copies of the files in my MBP library.
What's the proper way to do this?

    Interesting question!
I have the same problem. As a music-lover & DJ, I have a huge collection of songs (mostly ripped from CD's and vinyls) I would like to share around the home network.
I use a PC with my main library and nicely ordened playlists. I allready was able to share the music with my Macbook Pro through Home Sharing, but as the playlists are nicely ordened, I would like to sync them to!
I also use Traktor Scratch Pro for performing...
Is there a way to do this?
If this works, I also can sync the whole library (including the playlists) to a Mac Mini I use as media server in the livingroom...

When I copy songs with home sharing it shows it copying but doesn't show up in the library. What should I do ?

    Hi adtsalmon,
You can only watch the movie on the device you rented it on. Here's a snippet from the Apple Support site (italics mine):
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

  • How to import a playlist in Home Sharing From Computer to ...

How to import a playlist in Home Sharing From Computer to computer and other devices?

No need to "import". Just find the photo in iPhoto (i.e. within the application), click it once so it's highlighted with a blue outline, then select Edit menu > Copy (or just ⌘-C). Go to Address Book, select the contact, click the Edit button at the bottom, click once on the blank photo icon so it's highlighted with a blue outline, then select Edit menu > Paste (or just ⌘-V).
FYI, the original iPhoto images are stored as individual files, in ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/subfolders.
    Hope this helps...

  • Can I import a playlist over home sharing?

I have my main music collection on my iMac running iTunes 12.  It includes some playlists I would like to have in an older Macbook Pro, running iTunes 11.4.  I have my Home Sharing turned on, and can import the items in the playlist, but have not figured out how to get the playlist itself.
Is there an easy way to share a playlist within Home Sharing?

    Hello Burn16
You should be able to, but if it is not working you can export your playlist and copy the file over and import the playlist that way.

  • HT2688 How do I restrict access to *specific* songs (or give access to a specific playlist) in Home Sharing

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2688?
This article describes two different things:
    Music Sharing and
    Home Sharing
Music Sharing allows you to select playlist(s) to share, and allows you to play the song from another device. It does *not* allow you to transfer the song to another device.
Home Sharing allows you to share your ENTIRE music library and transfer the songs to another device. It does not allow you to restrict the share to a specific playlist(s).
Try it. You can set a password and check the boxes to restrict your playlists, but that only restricts while Home Sharing is turned off. EVERY file is accessible when you have Home Sharing running.
I have a bunch of music I don't want my kids listening to. I've created a playlist for them, and I want them to be able to load their ipods with music from that list without accessing other music.  Any ideas?

say suppose i have no control over wcf client. so i want to do it at client side. so what is your suggestion. thanks
If you can't  implement role based secuirty on the client-side, the you may want to look at what is in the link.

  • Can't copy songs between home shared libraries

I used to have home sharing set up to automatically copy songs between my wife's iMac and my Mac Pro. About a month ago, I changed the boot drive in my Mac Pro to an SSD. Sometime after, I also de-authorized all of my computers from iTunes (I had some dead computers that I wanted to clear out and re-authorized the two computers we are currently using). I just noticed today that songs we each buy are no longer synched between our computers, and I suspect either the iTunes deauthorization or the moving of files between computers must be the reason.
The shared libraries still work, and I can play songs from my wife's library and vice-versa, but we can't even manually copy songs. The "Settings" and "Import" options on the bottom are missing, the option to show songs missing from my library is also missing, and where I used to be able to drag songs from one library to another, this no longer works.
Both of our computers are on the same network and we are both logged into the same account. I read other posts that suggested turning off home sharing on both computers. I did this, rebooted both computers, and then turned sharing back on. Still no importing. I also tried logging out of iTunes and logging back in again, but still no dice.
Apple products are so nicely designed, but when they break, they often leave no clues as to what is going wrong, and it can be infuriating trying to figure out why!
Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?
    Help is much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ron

Okay ... I just solved my own problem. I read about turning on / off home sharing, but I didn't realize that there are two similar sounding options for doing this. I went to "Preferences --> Sharing" and chose to turn on / off sharing of my library. This did nothing.
However, I later noticed that in the Menu Bar under "Advanced", there is also a way to turn on / off home sharing. I turned this on / off, and my files are now sharing again. Yay!!!

  • Add song to playlist while home sharing?

    Hi All,
Taking advantage of Home Sharing and everything works fine except for one thing: while listening to the shared library should the desire arise to add the current song to a playlist there's no way to do it, or is there?
Currently I have to screen share back to the "host" computer and do it that way, but is there a way to enable

Yeah I'm not sure how that happened, nor do I know how to delete a post...

  • HT4527 Copying ratings via home sharing

    Hi,
is it possible to get the ratings across as well when importing via home sharing? I use smart playlists so I'd like to be able to transfer the ratings of the songs as well. Many thanks. I'm assuming that's in the XML. Note I don't want to import the whole library, rather, selected albums from time to time
    Cheers
Not this is using macs. For some reason I can only pick iTunes via windows in the drop down list

  • HT3819 playlists in home sharing

Can I share playlists if home sharingis on in itunes?

In the sense of streaming (or transferring) a single playlist from a shared library? If so, yes. Click the wee disclosure triangle next to the shared library to see "Playlists" and click the wee disclosure triangle next to "Playlists" to see individual playlists. Here's a screenshot showing how:

  • While trying to copy files using home sharing, get the error you do not have enough access privileges

I'm trying to use "Home Sharing" feature in iTunes to import files from another user on the same iMac.  We have 5 users and one user is unable to import files from other users.  We get the error "You do not have enough access privileges to perform this operation."  All users are logged in using the same Apple ID and everyone else can import files.  What gives?

Had the same thing happen to me a few weeks back when I switched computers and migrated.  Here's what worked on my iMac, so maybe it'll work on your iPad, too.  Go to User(your home folder)/Music.  Select/highlight your "Music" folder.  Then do Command-I ("Get Info" from the File menu), click on the padlock icon in the lower right of the new window.  Enter your user password.  Click on your username just above the now-open padlock.  Select "Read & Write" if it's on "Read Only," "Write Only," or "No Access."  Now having your user account with "Read & Write" privileges (it may have been this way already; still do this next step), click on the gear on the bottom-center of that window.  Click on "Apply to all enclosed items."  When the pop-up says "Are you sure?" (or the equivalent), say "yes."  This will grant access privileges to your user account for all the music files inside your music folder--all your iTunes stuff included).  Then you should be good to go.
