Copying Printer Presets to new user

I have several presets that I have defined and saved for my printer in Tiger - Economy - B&W, Economy - Color, Photo draft, Photo HQ, etc.
I just created my wife her own user and would like to copy these presets to it, as apposed to recreating them, but I can't figure out what file they are saved in.
Can someone tell me what preference file or other file to copy over to my wife's user from mine?
This is an HP 6840 printer.

Look for the com.apple.print.custompresets.plist file in /<home>/Library/Preferences/
Hope this helps.

  • Solved Copying Printer presets to other users

I want to copy printer presets across to all users.
I tried the suggestion as per this thread
    Copying printer presets
But in Mavericks it does not work.  I have tried multiple times..deleting old plists, log gin out and back in again ..checking and comparing permissions etc..no joy
The prefs files are there, but deleting the old, and copying the plist to other users then doing a print, the Presets do not appear, even when the "Show Presets' button is clicked.
Wonder if any one has managed this yet with mavericks
    Thanks
    Edit:
A log out is not enough ...needs a full shutdown and re boot

  • Enforce Default Printer Presets Across Multiple Users

    Hi
Please could anyone tell me if there is a way to enforce the default printer preset across multiple users on the same computer for a network attached printer?
I want to make sure that all of my family who each have separate accounts all print using greyscale by default.
I would like to do this without copying plists about. I was hoping that there is some global way to do it as an administrator.
    TIA

    Hello Ian,
I did a couple of simple tests on this topic and from what I can see there is no easy way for this to be done. The preferences (plists) are being saved in each users preference, and depending on which printer you are using the located and format for this preference is not easily copied.
Unless there is a third party app (or something I missed) then I don't see a simple solution to this.
    Regards,
    Paul

  • Setting default printing presets for all users, esp. guest user

i want to set black/white, two sided printing as the default for all users (9 macs, 30 users on each).
i set up and save this preset as admin, and copy the files
    com.apple.print.custompresets.plist
    com.apple.print.custompresets.forprinter.nameofprinter.plist
from admin home/library/preferences to the other users preferences-folders.
but logging on to any of the other users, i still dont even get the new preset listed.
i tried entering cups, but there, only the printer setup is editable.
especially i would like to set the custom preset as default for the guest account, without being wiped every log off.
is there any alternative way to do this? i dont want to manually log in to the 300 accounts to change this.

You can do that for new users via a file user.js in the default template folder for new profiles.

  • CS2- CS4 upgrade, copy print presets?

I recently upgraded to IDCS4 from IDCS2. While this may not have been the "preferred" method, I installed CS4,then uninstalled CS2. It seems the CS2 "Print Presets" didn't make the upgrade trip.
Can anyone suggest where I might locate my CS2 Print Presets, and (ideally) be able to import them into CS4?
    thanks in advance,
    Mike

In CS2 you would need to go to File>Print Presets>Define and save the file as a .prst, then load that file into CS4.
I'm afraid that if you haven't saved them from CS2 then they are most likely lost. Perhaps someone knows a sneaky file they reside in?

  • How to copy recent presets to new one?

well my adobe Photoshop cs3 extended version is corrupted and i am going to reinstall new one.To add presets from A to Z is big headache.I have loaded actions and brushes in my Photoshop CS3, and when i go to presets folder in photoshop cs3 directory there is nothing else in actions and brushes folder except the original files, so where the brushes and actions go which i have loaded? Is there any way to copy my actions and brushes from this abobe photshop cs3 which is corrupted now?I want to copy my brushes and actions in newly installed abobe photoshop cs3, So that i dont have to load them one by one.

Thanks.  I think the problem is that the c:drive on my computer is full and so it does not have the capacity to do it.  I have a new computer and have managed to copy the downloads on to the new computer but it won't sync the rest of the music because I think the old device is the registered device.  If that makes sense!

  • Presets for new user

I just installed LiveType2. I found the discussion about presets in the manual less than satisfying. So, for someone who wants to add a title from LiveType to Final Cut Express to then export to iDVD what preset should I use? Thanks, Will

but exactly what does NTSC DV 3.2 < </div>
Hmm, dunno. Sounds like an aspect ratio designation. I'd look it up but I'm not at my FCP machine and, heck, you can do that. Try these guys or just put the term into google and spin the big wheel.

  • Access printer by new user Deskjet 1100 series

I've added a new user to my computer and can't access the printer from the new user's desktop.

Attempt this again now, as it should be resolved on the server side. If not let me know.

  • [CS5.5] Lock PDF export and print presets

    Hi,
With this post I would like to ask a question regarding locking certain features in Indesign.
Does anyone know if it is possible to ...
    - lock PDF export and print presets so a user is not abble to change/override any preset properties, and is forced to use a preset without the possibility to override any of the properties when using it?
    - force a user to use one of the predefinied presets to print or export a document without the ability to create a new preset?
    - verify PDF-files to check what Indesign print/export preset was used?
Being part of a larger prepress team, we would like to make sure that, every PDF-file created by each team member, is created with the same specs.
Does anyone know of any plugin, tool or release that enables such a functionality?
    Kind regards
    John

If the employees cannot follow company policy, they need to know that there are other people looking for work who can. Yes, mistakes happen, but that would be a case of choosing the wrong preset from a list (which, if you leave more than one installed, can't be avioded). Changing settings against policy is not a mistake.

  • IDCS OSX10.4.11 Print Presets - Device Independent the only option

I have a clean build of 10.4.11 with InDesign CS installed from disk. First of all the update to 3.0.1 will download and install (I do make sure IDCS is closed) however it does not actually do anything even thought it says it completed successfully. I have tried this on 2 separate machines with similar results.
Second problem is really the more pressing matter. The machine is part of an Active Directory domain. The main admin account is able to see the menus just fine. However when a normal managed user logs in you get this.
When you go to File > Print Presets > Define > New... > Select Postscript File for Printer drop down > Device-Independent is the only option available for PPD. This is an issue because it does not allow for paper-sizes and other settings to be set. I really hope someone has overcome this issue and can direct me to fix it. I'm pretty savvy so please don't worry about explaining too in depth. A simple direction would help TONS.

    Thanks much,

I have only a slight idea, but I'll give it a shot. Do you actually need the PPDs for the printers in your domain? If you're printing to PS and distilling, then you can just make sure that the user account in question has the PPD files in the correct places, as per Steve's post above. Drag and drop. You'd want to use the PPD folder in the user's library, of course, as I assume that the user that
    i can't
see the PPDs wouldn't be able to see the system library at all.
If, on the other hand, you need to be able to get at the same PPDs as everyone else in your domain, then I think that your question is actually about CUPS. From a ten-second Google search, I'd guess that the user acct. must be able to get at the PPDs in /usr/share/cups/model/. Just a guess, though; it's been years since I've needed to know this kind of information.

  • Migrate files, etc. to new user?

I just had to create a new user acct with admin privileges to solve a problem with Adobe Bridge. Is there a way to carry over all of the settings from my original user acct?
    Thanks
    Peter

Alright, I copied all of the folders that were in the old acct to a new folder on the root level. Two things worth noting - 1) nothing was flagged as a problem during that process 2) when I was done I clicked on the Users folder and there IS a Deleted Users folder evidently created when I tried your original suggestion. I never looked for it thinking that the never-ending spinning wheel was a failure.
So now, would you trust that dmg file? I opened it and it appears OK, but can I be sure?
Whether I use the dmg or the manually copied folders, wouldn't I have to copy everything to the new user acct to maintain my previous state?

  • How to move all info from original user identity to new user identity

I bought a new printer and had some problems. In the process of 'fixing' the problems with the help of HP tech support I have since lost the ability to print from my original printer. I have found that I can print from a new user identity to both printers, so I'm figuring the easiest way to fix this problem is to physically transfer everything I have on my original user profile to a new user profile so that my printing problems are fixed. I can print to the new printer from the original user profile. So if there is a way that I could fix it so that I can print to the old printer that would be even better. But I've given in to the fact that I'm going to have to delete the original user profile and use a new one.
If any one has any tips on the easiest way to do this with out losing anything I've aquired that would be greatly appreciated.

I'm just taking a wild guess here but: the situation you described sounds like there is a problem somewhere with you original user's settings, probably in your ~/Library Folder. If you really were to transfer all of your old users information to the new account, including all files and settings there is a fair chance that you would also import whatever the problem is on your original account.
So you should as you said either try to fix your old printer in your old profile so both work there or transfer only your data files such as the Music, Pictures, Movies and Documents folders from your original home directory to the new home directory. You could also import the ~/Library Folder in bits and always make sure that you can still print but that would probably take as long as finding the problem in the original account. I hope that helps amking a choice which way to go.

  • Passing Number of copies / Duplex into print presets

I need to pass the servers simplex/duplex and number of copies settings into the print presets so the user doesn't have to remember each forms setting.
Can I pass these through the xfdf?

No, but the simplex/duplex setting can be embedded into the form if you're using XFA forms.

  • Setting up new users on family PC?

    Hi
    XP SP3.
I think this is really basic stuff, but im a bit dumb...
Whole family has been using the PC for several years, under the only login, as the administrator.
every time i get home from work, i have to undo all the system changes my kids have made.
Today, from Control Panel, I set up a new  user account for each person, but lost my access to the original ADMINISTRATOR, and lost all files, my docs etc.
I performed a system revert to yesterday to remove new users and get the ADMIN log in back, it worked, all good.
So, when I set up a new user, that user desk top is vitually empty, & cant access all the programs / files etc they are used to using...
How do i set up seperate user logins,, and transfer existing files and programs from ADMINISTRATOR to restricted users?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Believe it or not, Microsoft already has these instructions posted, just not labeled so that you would ever think of it. Basically what you need to do is to duplicate the current user account several times, one for each family member.
This is the page you want, How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile in Windows XP
I know that it does not match exactly, but the end result is the same. Once you get to that page you want to follow the instructions under Create a new user profile on the workgroup computer to create accounts for everyone (Think about making a restricted account for yourself as well) and then under Copy files to the new user profile to copy everything over.
That should do what you want.

Apple support got me restoring iPod then creating a whole new iTunes library in a new user on my computer. Did this, sync again, same problem. Anyone experienced this?

ps when syncing it jumps through steps 1 - 4 real fast, i seem to remeber iphone showing the number of tracks transferring and names, but i see nothing? then it sits on 5 saying "waiting for changes to be applied"
