Copying Songs from Ipod to new Computer

My previous notebook crashed and all the songs on my Itunes are all gone. I wish to sync songs from my Ipod to the new notebook. How do I go about doing that?
Please help.

There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

Problem copying songs from ipod to new computer/itunes

Hello all,
I'm hoping that some of you will be able to help me out on this issue. I need to restore my song database from my ipod to the a new HD however when i copy all the songs they are all named random 4 letter caracters. I used ipod access to copy the songs over. Now on the ipod they all show up with their proper names, however when i try to import them into itunes, half of them are converted to the right names and half are random characters. also i've tried a software called id3 tags which names the songs from the tag information, however for some reason these songs dont have tag information (but they are named correctly on the ipod)
Now is there any way to get these songs names to display correctly?

i can tell you how to get the songs from your ipod on to your computer if that helps
1) make sure there is a "itunes music" folder somewhere in your documents. if not, then just load any cd into itunes and the folder will automatically be created.
2) plug your ipod in. go to "my computer" then into your ipod icon.
3) search the folders until you come across one which contains around 50 folders, all beginning with "f".
4) select all of these and copy them.
5)go into the "itunes music" folder and create a new folder. it doesn't matter what you call it.
6) paste all of the folders into your new folder. this will take FOREVER!!!!
7) when thats all finished, open up itunes.
8) got to "file" then "add folder to library". find the new folder you created in "itunes music" and select it to be added.
9) this, again, will take a long time
10) all of your songs should be there
please tell me if this does not work because i haven't done this in a while and i may left out a step or done something wrong.

How can I copy my songs from my iPod to the iTunes library on my new computer?

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer is designed with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is purchased content.

Hello..Please forgive me but I not very computer literate...I have a new computer and want to put the 101 songs that are currently on my Ipod classic onto the itunes playlist for the new computer. How do I go about doing this?? Using the SYNC function won't work because it tells me that all of the songs that i currently have on the ipod will be areased..any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated

2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. Ok so my computer's hard drive recently just crashed and since then I've had to replace it, thus meaning everything I had on it is gone. This includes my 3000+ songs on my iTunes. I was wondering if there was any way I could load the songs from my iPod onto my new computer in iTunes. I didn't have anything backed up or anything so thats out of the question. No. Fortunately I was able to transfer songs, however, none of the playlists were copied. The whole process of transferring songs from the iPod to a new computer is ridiculously scary; I've had to re-install songs from backups in the past - and it takes days. It's too cumbersome for an ordinary non-techie. The protected/purchased songs transferred easily from the iPod to the new computer. However, the 1,000s of other songs had to be copied as suggested using the iPod first as a removable drive to copy the library folders to the new computer, and then adding those files/songs through iTunes. That created "duplicates" of the purchased songs; I deleted the duplicates based on the Added Date in iTunes. The copied library folders were deleted after I verified the #songs in the new iTunes libary. I had to redo my playlists (viewing the old computer) and re-add a few podcasts. Adding the iTunes library was the most difficult task in setting up this new computer.

One last thing, if your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to a different computer with an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. Downloading songs from iPOD to new computer

OK, seems like a common problem, yet all the FAQs and questions don't seem to get me where I need to go.
My first authorized computer is fritzed, can't access itunes, so I loaded new version of itunes onto my new computer and want to download all of my songs from my ipod onto the new itunes. All I seem to be able to download is the "purchased music". Since 75% of the songs on my ipod are from my CDs this doesn't quit do it for me.
I don't want to rerip all of my CDs onto my new computer (hours of work), I just want the songs from my ipod onto my computer.
Is there a way to do this?
When I open my ipod icon in "my computer" it only gives me 4 options of folders--calenders, notes, contacts and a text document-- no itunes music list to drag into "my music" folder.
Somebody save me!

I have moved from my previous locale and have a new computer now. I cant get the songs that i had from there to this computer by any other way because i left my cds back in my previous locale. Any help would be appreciated.

Bought new computer, Won't let me transfer songs from Ipod to new computer?

Is this possible? I have several hundred songs on my Ipod/other computer (desktop). I bought a new Dell laptop and I was hoping I could transfer all the songs on my new computer. It did let me transfer the songs that were purchsed through Itunes but not the others that I downloaded from CD's. When I connect the Ipod to the new computer it shows no songs on it.
Can I just connect my laptop to my desktop and tranfer songs or is there a way to trasfer the songs from the Ipod to the new laptop?

I just purchased a new computer, and would like to upload my music files from my iPod onto it. My computer recognizes the iPod, but won't let me copy songs to my computer. Does anyone know how I can do this?
