Copying sound

I have a short audio clip (a heartbeat sound) that I need to play over and over in my project. Selecting the audio clip and Copy/Paste doesn't do anything. There has to be a better way than importing it over and over again, since the original file is not edited. Any help would be appreciated.

Access your audio file from iMovie's media menu. Then drag it where you want over and over again. Or, even try to copy and paste from imovie's media menu.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

  • Copying sound files in ibooks

I can't find the source sound files in my ibooks that I created myself. How can I save them on my desktop in IBA?
    Thanks...
    Message was edited by: baydal

The .iba file is essentially a glorified .zip folder. Once you drag an item into iBA, it gets copied into a specific location within the file, and all sorts of magical xml happens in the background.
Files can be extracted from iBA files reasonably easily...
Download Zipeg (or similar), make a copy of your .iba file, (just to ensure you don't harm your original by accident). Drag the copied .iba file into Zipeg, and search through the files to find the clip you want, then alt+click and drag to copy the file onto your desktop.
    Job done.

  • X-fi CMSS-3D Stereo Surround, not copying sound correctly to rear.

I got the creative extreme audio pci express on windows 7 with latest creative drivers.
With the Logitech X-540 5. Surround set.
Speaker settings: Matrix mode off and bass at max usually.
    Creative audio panel settings:EAX off,5. , X-fi CMSS-3D?Stereo Surround 50%(default), X-fi Crystalizer 00%
Windows Control Panel Settings: Setup for 5., 24 Bit 96000 Hz. Enabled the 2 checkboxes at the?screen when configuring speakers for Full-Range for front?and left and?surround. ( am not sure if I am supposed to do that though?).
My problem is that when I use X-fi CMSS-3D?Stereo Surround you should hear the same sound as from the front/center boxes, am I right? As it just copies the stereo channel to the back.
Well when I put one rear box to my ear and a front box I can hear difference, the front box is louder, and the rear box is producing less sound and even less effects.
For example: When I watch a certain movie or clips online like youtube I hear sound from all boxes but the voices of persons for example are wayyyyy louder in the front boxes and hardly noticable in the rear boxes.
Though when I listen music I can hear no difference.
    What could the problem be?
    Thanks.

  • No 5.1 sound in games using LogitechZ5300 and Audigy

Hey all. I realize that you can't get 5. sound in games through digital output. So I bought a very nice sound system (Logitech) which is a 5. system, and have it hooked up properly. (The Creative Speaker test confirms that each channel works properly). I also appreciate that stereo sound should only come through the front left and right speakers.
So all that said, I can't get 5. sound from modern games such as Bioshock and Neverwinter nights. I get stereo only. Both games support EAX. So far I have EAX and CMSS off. If I enable CMSS i do get surround but this is just 'copied' sound from the front to some degree. I finally want to enjoy nati've 5. surround, it should be working but I'm not sure why. Any thoughts?

I figured it out, you need to enable EAX from creative speaker settings, then everything works. I have XP btw.

  • Huge crashing sound in FCE / totally shocking!!!

    Hi everyone,
I've just experienced a huge crashing sound when working in FCE. I composed a little 5 seconds music clip in GarageBand, exported it uncompressed to iTunes, and later imported the aif-file into FCE 4.0.1. Here, I opened the sound file in the viewer, set my In and Out points, and edited them to the audio track part of the timeline. When playing this audio part, all in a sudden a huge cracking sound appeared that nearly blew me away. I repeated this part, and there it was again!
I'm still totally shocked by this experience and hardly dare to work with FCE again. I'm also afraid it will destroy my headphones, or the computer speakers (and harm my ears). What was THAT??? Has anybody an idea? I have used 44.1 kHz sampled aif-files in FCE without any problems so far. On the same audio tracks were also 48 kHz sampled sound files from video recordings. Might this mixture have caused a dysfunction?
Thank you so much for any idea.

    Hello Al,
Thank you for your response. It's good to know that the problem here is not the 44.1 kHz sampling of the audio file. Unfortunately, I've already deleted the audio file and can't check the wave form anymore.
To be precise, the crashing sound happened with an audio file I copied and pasted within the timeline. First, I edited the sound file to the timeline and it played well. Then copied it and pasted it to a different position on the same track within the timeline. When playing the copied sound file, this horrible crashing sound appeared. I deleted the copy and made a fresh edited of the sound file from the viewer to the timeline, as described in my post. The crash sound repeated, when I played this new edit the second time. Strange.
Do you think copying and pasting might be the problem? I thought, I could do this within the timeline. Should the noise repeat, I will check the wave form in the viewer.
    Stefan

  • Powerpoint can't copy from iTunes

Hi! I'm having trouble with copying sound files from iTunes to PowerPoint. Is there a compatibility problem?
    Thanks for all your suggestions.

In your iTunes preferences change the import preference to mp3.
Select the relevant files in iTunes and right click and you should be able to convert to mp3.
If they are protected AAC files (from the Music Store) then you will need to burn to CD and then re-import as mp3 files.

  • Lost audio file embedded in project

OK, weird... I was playing around with adding sound to my slideshow. It was about a month ago, and I forgot what I did exactly. Sigh. Anyway, now music begins to play when I start playing the presentation. I can't find the sound file. Is there some way to a) find the sound file and b) delete it. Or at least disable it? I tried "saving as" with advanced options, but the "copy sound file with project" was greyed out. Sure would appreciate knowing how to get outta this. Thanks!

It seems like you have your sound file set as a "soundtrack" for the entire presentation, rather than associated with a specific slide.
Click on the Document (far left) Icon in the Inspector, open the Audio submenu, and you probably will find your "missing" audio file in the Soundtrack window. Delete it from there and all should be well again.

  • Audio does not embed in keynote file

Added audio to an existing Keynote presentation sometimes fails to 'stick' although embedding has been set in Preferences. It works as long as the .key file does not move relative to the source music but does not if I send it to the notebook I take for doing shows.

Am having perhaps a related issue. When I record narration and share to QT or even iWed, GarageBand won't take the Keynote with the narration, iWeb won't take it when you tell it to either copy sound, or mix sound. iWeb takes it only if there is no audio.

  • UPK 11.0 - Preview Topic in See It - Converting Audio to Flash Error

Three of our five content developers are getting a warning and error message when trying to view a topic in See It mode from within the UPK Developer Client. The warning is for Task of Player and LMS/ Copying sounds and states "Converting audio to flash format failed". Error message states "General exception occured". We recently updated to 11.0 ESP 1 and everything was working properly before the upgrade. Also, since we have several parties that can view in See It mode within the developer and it works fine and plays the audio, we think it might not be related to the upgrade and more inclined to think it is a setting somewhere. Does anyone know how to fix?

I would suggest logging a support ticket in My Oracle Support if you have not already done so. Additional information can be found in the announcement at the top of this forum: https://forums.oracle.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=1175

  • DV Pal export to DV NTSC ?

Was able to import our PAL Hi8mm tapes into the iMovie and also convert with iDVD to NTSC and burn to DVD.
BUT want to preserve the raw footage and export to a NTSC DV tape via camcorder.
File->Share doesn't let me do it.
Do I have to add another step along the line?
    What?
    Thanks,
    Sylvia

Exported a clip as Full Qualily.dv and used as input for JES.
Followed the instruction in 2.62 Exept my file has a .dv instead of .mov and try to import back into iMovie, so I can export it to the Videocamera.
Open a new iMovie window and use frame rate 29.97 fps.
After I import it, have this big black bar on the top and bottom and everything looks kind of wider as normal.
When I try and export it to the camcorder, gives me an error.
What settings should I have in JES ?
Default comes up in Input with 2.20 Gamma, Source Rectangle is set to 0 for all and Video range is selected.
Project Standard conversion NTSC, Settings Height 480, Width 720 and Frame rate 29.97. Block match threshold 600, Noise level 10 and nothing else is checked.
Output: 2.20 Gamma, Target rectangle (trim) 0's, Video range checked and Video output, Direct Compressor DV-NTSC and Copy sound.
Any idea why it doesn't export to tape.
    Sylvia
Open JES Deinterlacer 2.6.2 or later.
Pane Input, click "Choose..." and select the small reference .mov file from your iMovie project folder.
Pane Project, Select "Standards conversion" and then "Convert to NTSC".
Pane Output, Click on "Put..." and use the default filename (can be renamed in Finder later if necessary), select "Compressor" DV-NTSC.
Pane Output, click on OK and wait.
    Quit JES Deinterlacer.

  • Sandfox - A Poor Man's Firefox Sandboxer

I have completed writing and pretty thoroughly testing this sandbox creator.  Written entirely in bash (1300 lines) and using only core commands like mount and chroot for sandbox creation, I believe it is quite secure and fills a niche for an easy to use sandbox for Firefox.  It can also create and use multiple sandboxes and can run any program in them with flexible profiles.
My design goals were to Keep It Simple, flexible, and secure.  In the simple department, you can create a sandbox and run Firefox in it with
    sandfox firefox
Rather than repeating all that's on the website I'll just drop a link - which includes a fairly detailed "How It Works" section.  I appreciate feedback on your results with it, suggestions, problems, etc.  Particularly, I would like to know how the default Firefox profile runs Firefox on your machine.  I don't use KDE or Gnome themes in Firefox, so if you come up with a profile that enables these themes I'd appreciate a copy.  Try to keep the profile as constrictive as possible (for example, instead of putting all of ~/.kde in the sandbox, what specific folders and files are needed?)  The default Firefox profile should at least allow it to run.  And any other profiles you come up with for other programs would also be appreciated - I might include them in a future release.  Thanks!
As for security, if you can figure out how to break out of the sandbox I'll owe you a nickel.

Also remember that the default profile also loads in addition to the firefox profile.  At any rate, when I try binding ~/.mozilla read-only, Firefox won't even start, which makes sense.  Copy sounds like what you wanted though.
Here is a firefox.profile that should put your KDE theme in Firefox.  This worked for me on Kubuntu Karmic with KDE4, which is the only system I have with a full KDE4 desktop to try at the moment.  This may also work for Gnome, because from what I could gather on Google, Gnome uses the GTK themes in /usr, so it doesn't require as much as KDE.

That will be the default for sandfox 0.9.3 which will be available shortly.  That is pretty much the only change in 0.9.3.  Note that this includes files for KDE4 and KDE3, but only folders or files which exist on your system at the time of sandbox creation are actually binded, so you can leave the excess in there.
If that doesn't work on Arch's KDE4, try this in a shell as your normal user:
    env
Then examine the values of GTK2_RC_FILES, GTK_RC_FILES, and XCURSOR_THEME.  I think those are the critical ones for getting themes working in Firefox.  Any files or folders referenced in those variables may need to added.
One other note:  The profile above shares kdeglobals, which is a limited privacy risk, since KDE4 logs recent file and folder names and possibly other data in that file.  It's a limited issue, but if you're concerned you can use kscrubber to clean that file before running Firefox.

  • How long should this take?

Ive been waiting 15 minutes now. Im trying to convert a 1 page pdf file to either word or excel.

File copying sounds pretty good to me, I have a similar set up. DVD burning on the other hand sounds dismal. I replaced my drive with a dual drive and find significant speed increases, try updating drivers, try popcorn to see if it's a toast issue ? Maybe you should move up to Tiger see if that helps, mind you if you do, I would strongly advise not going beyond 10.4.2 as this seems the most stable update for my Dual, beyond this, for me, means more minor problems, spinning beachball, Safari hanging and others. but 10.4.2 is considerably faster and slicker than Panther.

  • Creating book, need basic help!

My predecessor created an InDesign book using CS2.  I am to create the new version of the book using CS4.  I have her template/final version from last year.  It is a reference book made up of a series of articles.  I need to replace the old with the new.  Is there a shortcut for this?  I have tried cutting and pasting to no avail.  Thanks for your help.

Your in for a crash course on Paragraph Styles.
TNR full just means the creator used Times New Roman - Full justified for that block of copy. Study the layout; as you insert your text cursor in different areas, you'll see the styles/formatting used.
Get a feel for the layout; It starts with a header style, followed by a body copy style, perhaps finishes with {TNR - Last} just before the next article. If the person was adept, Head Style may automatically be followed by Body. (You can get by without understanding this)
Save a copy, Open YOUR copy document, select all text (insert cursor, select all, > Delete) File > Place the new copy, sounds like you did that, but the formatting isn't ready, no surprise.
Insert text cursor into one spot, or several paragrapghs of body copy, click the appropriate para style. You need to study the styles against last version to understand the usage. One (or more) styles are Parent Styles - other styles are based on the parent for instances of Indent, or Numbered/Bulleted or Last Paragraph. (Double click a Style > General Tab shoes if it based upon and other tabs show different attributes)
You see mixed, you selected more than one paragraph. When you see a style highlighted with a + next to it, there is a modification used.
