Copying sub-categories, PSE 9 restore.

If I use 'Restore' in PSE 9 to copy my photos to a new PC, will all my sub-categories also be copied over from the five back-up DVDS?
In the instructions for 'Restore' under PSE 9 Help, it states that, "the last disc should be inserted on request', or similar wording. Surely I should put in each of my five discs starting with disc one?

My explanation (without testing it on DVDs or CDs) is that there is a logical order to write a backup, and that the last media is needed to make the catalog copy and the .tly file available to the restore process. Of course, all disks are necessary for the restore. Logically the restore process should prompt which disk is needed at each stage of the restore...
What I can't imagine is what happens when you are using CDs and the size of the catalog.pse9db plus catalog.tly is more than the last CD size ?

Have PSE 9 and over the years have found have duplicated categories and subcategories and wish to know the best way to Merge and organise them. Also have a huge list of 'Imported Keywords' and not sure how they are formed and how to mege them with the existing categories, sub-categories etc?

The 'imported keywords' category is created when you import picture files which already have been keyworded in PSE (or LR or PS...). When you import you are prompted to keep the keywords. If they don't belong to a category of your present catalog, the keywords will be added there.
Merging categories, sub-categories and keywords:
This is not difficult, but can be time consuming.
- Select a keyword in the 'imported category'
- Right click and select 'edit'
- in the dialog, replace the category or sub-category by the correct one
In that way, you can 'move' a keyword to the correct parent.
If you have duplicates or near duplicates, such as a correct and an incorrect spelling, you have to:
- select all items with the wrong keyword
- assign all selected items the right keyword
- select the now luseless keyword in the keyword panel and delete it.

My Categories and sub-categories are now missing

I installed new PSE12 on my Win7x64. I previously had PSE9 installed.
My Categories and sub-categories are now missing? I need to know how to reinstall them and auto attach to my pictures?

So, did you import your pictures in a new catalog in PSE12? That can only restore tags which were specifically 'written to files' in the Organizer.
As a matter of fact, the solution in your case is not an 'import' via the 'get photos and videos... from files or folders'.
It's a catalog conversion, which creates a new PSE12 version from your old one. This is done in the File menu, catalogs... option : the catalog manager. There is a 'convert' button which you use to search and convert catalogs of any older version (shortcut Ctrl Maj C).

Why does the iPad AppStore not show sub categories ?

I always search around on my iPhone and come across a new app but on the iPad you can only see featured apps, is there a reason why it is like this, why we can't browse apps like on the iPhone.

Dude why do you have to be a nub? You know what he means. Don't suggest using your computer to search. That is ignorant. The whole point in getting a iPad is to replace using a computer for easy day to day usage. Especially in this case. Searching the iPad app store is a joke. I been messing around with this thing for a hour trying to do stuff that takes seconds on my iPhone. There is they key statement. iPhone! Can you say iPhone? The iPhone has a superior search function to the iPad. There is absolutely positively no reason get go sit at my computer to search apps when I can do everything I want from the comfort of my bed on my iPhone at night. So apple got it right on the iPhone but dropped the ball on the iPad app store. Sure I can search from my iPhone but I want to search iPad specific apps in the RPG games category. Is that to much to ask? The iPhone already does it so don't say goto your computer. I have bought a ton of games I didn't even know I wanted by searching sub categories on my iPhone. I'd like to think this was a oversight that will be fixed but looking at older post it seems this has been the case for awhile, so it leads me to believe there is some evil pay apple to get yours apps featured thing going on.

Creating a table based on Category and Sub-Categories

I am building an extensive home budget. I have 3 tables showing, monthly, quarterly and annual costs. These tables contain Categories and Sub-Categories. I have created a table and chart to show the percentage of the total costs for each Category. For the two Categories with the largest percentage of the total cost I would like to create a table (and chart, no problem, based on my first template) showing the breakdown of the Sub-Categories. However this information is to be retrieved from 3 tables, and I was hoping to create the table automatically. If not I must individually go to each different table and find the relevant Sub-Category and manually input the text and link the cell for the value to my new table. This gives room for error in my opinion and is a nuisance as my budget file now contains about 8 sheets so even on 27" iMac requires a considerable amount of scrolling around.
Am I expecting too much of Numbers or missing something totally? I do not have much experience of spreadsheets, just basic tables and calculations in Excel before coming over from the Dark Side!

I apologise also for my incorrect terminology - please bear with me on this, unfortunately I never used Excel much so terminology is pretty much my own . I believe that I have one sheet, which then changes into different numbers of pages depending on the page size I set, so with these examples 4 pages. 14 tables and one chart at this time
The tables on the second screenshot were the only way I could figure out how to retrieve the data for the final table and chart (% Total Monthly Expenses)
Now what I want to do is for each (or in fact the three largest) budget categories is to give a breakdown of what in that category is, percentage wise, costing the most. Preferably, I want to get this breakdown category information automatically so that human error is ruled out (that I cannot overlook an entry in the any of the tables in my first example). Perhaps I am asking too much, but I thought it was worth asking!

How can I search sub categories in iBooks?

Okay, after generally loving apple products, this one has me raging mad. When I search iBooks, there is a drop down list of categories and authors.
But sub categories -- as found in any normal bookstore -- are nowhere to be found.
For example, searching "Ferrari" will drop down a variety of books, two of which are in the Transportation category. But, Transportation is not listed in any of the categories in the basic iBooks menu.
Words such as "history", "science and technology" cover a LOT of ground, and there MUST be better navigation to zero in on topics of interest.
So, how can I find a list of sub-categories so I can spend my iTunes wealth?

Sadly I don't think you can. I have a number of books published in the Games and Card Games category (as identified by BISAC code) but Apple don't have a Games category either. However in the iTunes Store (not iBooks) if I search for 'Games' and then select the 'Books' Media Type filter I can find the books in the results. Perhaps the same ill happen if you try with 'transportation'. Now that books are searchable directly from the iTunes store I find it much easier to search there rather than on my iPad.

How to make sub-categories in iTunes playlists

I have many playlists for separating certain types of music, like most people do. I was wondering if there is a way to place sub-categories in playlists already made. For example:
iTunes>Playlists>Recently Added>10 Most Recently Added>5 Most Recently Added.
I would like to be able to view/listen to the originated playlist; i.e. "Recently Added" which contains all the sub-playlists; i.e. "10 Most Recently Added" and "5 Most Recently Added" but also be able to access the sub-playlists within the original playlist and listen to solely the songs within the sub-category.
Basically, is there a way to put a playlist within a playlist without having to use and edit auto-updating smart playlists manually?

You can't make a playlist inside a playlist. You can nest playlists inside of folders and if you click on the folder it will show a summation of all the playlists contained in it.

Although your mention of albums makes me wonder whether there you are talking about albums and songs in the music Library? - podcasts don't come in albums.

'A feed for your podcasts' doesn't make sense - a podcast has one feed (and vice versa). Are you confusing 'episodes' with 'podcasts'? A podcast is a collection of episodes - you can't categorize the episodes separately. The category shows only on the Store page and applies to the entire podcast. The 'Artist' page may again be what you are aiming for - if not perhaps you could post an example of what someone else is doing that you would like to.

Vanishing sub categories iTunes ipad

My iTunes store app no longer has sub categories. There used to be menu options like comedy, drama etc for films... Then a few days ago they disappeared and browsing for films, tv etc is now impossible unless you know in advance what you are looking for. Don't know if this is some brilliant new improvement or a random glitch?

Actually, there is an undocumented way of doing this. Just like with the ecommerce catelogue list dump you can use the ID of the catalogue / category in the module tag to render that level like so:
Ecommerce catalogue list dump:
{module_cataloguelistdump,-1} --- renders all catalogues
{module_cataloguelistdump,12345} --- renders the catalogue level with this ID of the top catalogue
System Categories list:
{module_categorylist} --- renders all categories
{module_categorylist,12345} --- renders the category level with this ID of the top category

Blocked Stock Sub-Categories

Is there a way to be able to view and manage blocked stock into sub-categories. We have material blocked for several reasons and would like to be able to view different categories of that stock type?

There are no subcategories to a stock type.
And you will not be able to use MMBE if you develope any workaround. and if you develope a workaround, then you have to develope a new MMBE as well to fit to your developement.
Classification can only work if you use batch management.
BMBC cockpit can then be used to see stocks according to classification.

How to locate photos using keywords in sub-categories?

Is there a way to locate your photos according to the sub-categories in keywords, such as under "animals" I have "wild" and "domestic"? When I search for them with the inspector, I only can access the main category.

How are you searching for keywords? I mean, when you say you search for them with the inspector, are you referring to, under the "Library" tab in the left pane, the search field right at the top of that list, or the search field at the top of your "Keywords" HUD?
When I try to search keywords using the keyword HUD, it hangs for several minutes between each keystroke until I finally give up. (I have a lot of keywords - I used Keyword Manager in iPhoto, and the conversion to Aperture didn't preserve the hierarchy, only the list.)
