Copying Subtitle Streams?

Hey folks,
I'm making a DVD with about 36 short videos on it. I put them all in their own tracks and subtitled them, then realized that for my purposes (i.e. using stories for a couple of different play sequences), I need to have all 36 elements in one single track with chapter breaks between. But now it looks like I can't copy and paste my subtitles from the individual tracks into the one master track. Please tell me I don't have to recreate and adjust timing for every single caption!
I read this discussion:

Hi - welcome to the discussions.
Sadly, subtitles are still a problem. You cannot extract them as you want and simply move them around, unfortunately. This means you are left with the option of exporting the item description and trying to extract them from there using tools like subtitler.
There has been little improvement to the situation, and the only good advice is to not create extensive subs within DVDSP... use a ext editor or dedicated subtitle app instead.
Sorry it isn't better news...
You could try building the disc and then using 'sub rip' apps to try to get the subs out - most are PC though. Have a look on version tracker as well - there may be something there to help you.

  • Can you copy Subtitle Streams from one project to another?

I inserted subtitles onto a track and would like to use the same subtitles on a new track; can I copy them and paste them into the new project?
    How can I do this?
    Many thanks!

What you can do is export the item description for the track (File->Export->Item Description) which will export the track, including the subtitles. Then import that back into the project or new project, subtitles will come in, though you would need to change the video portion (if needed).

  • How to create QT movie with two subtitle streams

What would be the best (and fast) way to create a QT movie (or mpeg-4) to convert the DVD project created in DVDSP with two subtitle streams?
Both subtitle streams were created by importing TIFF files with the corresponding timing file. One stream is for the dialogue (Subtitle Track 1 non-forced) and the other stream is for the onscreen text translation (Sub Track 2 forced). There are times when the T/C of the two tracks overlap, as someone is talking while an onscreen text is displayed.
Is it possible to create a QT movie or any other video format with both streams showing?
    Thank you for your help.

I have discovered that I can merge two QT movies (Each movie with one stream of subtitles/TIFF files) by copying all tracks from one movie to the other. Now I have a QT movie with two subtitle streams. Each subtitle stream is in a video track as animation.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Duplicating subtitle stream

I just spent a few hours creating subtitle for two videos arranged in a single track.
Each of these videos is used again in the disc, in other tracks with other videos.
Example: in the Spanish track I have video A and video B.
    In English track 01 I have video C, D, E and A. In English track 02 I have video F, G, H and B.
Is there any simple way to copy the subtitle streams I created in the Spanish track to the other two tracks?
(I know, I could have used stories or scripting to accomplish this, but at the time I built the DVD we weren't planning on subtitling.)
    Thanks.

I agree with Hal that you get better flexibility using an external editor for your subtitles. No need to export an Item Description to duplicate a track though - just select the track and Cmd-D and you'll get a copy...
However if I read your original question properly you have the subtitles and then you have other video in the same track and you want to re-use the video and associated subs in another track with different video either side of it (or in front of it)... so you might have a bit of a problem due to timecode...
So you really need your subs as an external file as you could then shift the timecodes as necessary. There was a product online called Subtitle Xtractor which you could extract the subs from the Item Description of a track but last time I looked the website seemed to have gone...

  • Error encountered while copying audio stream

In Captivate 4, I attempt to capture screens. I hear the clicking as it captures, I click END when finished. Program attempts to save and then a dialog box displays with "error encountered while copying audio stream". I am not attempting to record any audio.
I searched the web and found references to this error back two versions and two years - but no solution.
Does anyone know of a solution? Thanks.

    Hi there,
I have experienced this on Windows XP. In my case this was due to a dll (Dynamic Link Library) file not being corectly registered in the Windows XP Registry. If you are using XP then take a look at the following blog post.

If this doesn't solve the problem or you are using Windows Vista then please report this issue to the Adobe Captivate team using the web address I have included below.

  • DVD SP2.0 - subtitle stream gets reset when track played

    Hello,
I have this weird problem ion DVDSP2.0 and i haven't found a solution yet.
I have a dvd with subtitles in 5 different languages. I've made a menu where you can choose the subtitle language, now the weird thing is that when the movie track is played it changes the subtitle stream to the first subtitle stream. But this only happens, when the playhead encounters the chapter 1 marker (in other words if the play of the track is "resumed" this doesn't happen)
So it seems like the chapter 1 marker resets the subtitle stream or something.
There's no pre-script attached to the track.
I really can't figure out what's going on...
Or is this normal behaviour? How can I solve this?

I'm having another problem with this job now I've received the check discs. Basically, I'll run through the dic requirements:
-Audio streams 1 and 2 (English 2 and 5.1) require subtitle stream 2 (for Chinese dialogue translation)
-Audio streams 3 and 4 (French 2 and 5.1) require subtitle stream 1 (for French and Chinese dialogue translation - locked ON)
I have First Play set to Audio Stream 1 and Subtitle Stream 2. I also have a first play script set the same (as an 'Immediate Value').
These settings are are also selectable via the Audio Set-Up menu. However if you put the disc in and INSTEAD of going to the Play or Set-Up menu you go to the Chapters menu and select a chapter, the player is by default using Stream 1 (English) with Subtitle Stream 1 (full English).
In our license agreement, the French audio MUST have English subtitle locked ON at all times.
I have set the User Operations up so thatr these cannot be changed via the remote (Ausio and subtitle streams).
Can anybody assist with this? It's driving me mad!

  • Error Encountered while copying Audio Stream on CAPTIVATE 3

Using Captivate 3 on Windows 2000
I don't have access to Captivate 4 or a newer version of
windows while in the office.. I do have admin rights to my machine.
I'm getting error.. Error encountered while copying audio
Stream when creating a new project.. I get through my recording..
and when i "end" the recording it thinks and thinks and then gives
    me this error.
Please advise on what I can do to fix.

    I just attempted this fix..
Close Captivate 4 if it is open.
    Download the file kept at
    https://share.acrobat.com/adc/document.do?docid=a14e1bd9-dc10-4456-9cd2-44489809b78e
Go to your Captivate 4 install folder (ex: C:\Program
    Files\Adobe\Adobe Cativate 4)
Rename nsaudio.dll as nsaudio.dll.bak or anything which
    doesn't have a dll extension
Copy the file from step 2 to Captivate 4 install folder
    rename it as nsaudio.dll
    Start Captivate 4
On Cap 3 to try.. and it didn't work either! Don't know if
the NSAudio.dll is different for Cap 4 however!

  • Ability to export and/or copy subtitles

It seems to be fairly easy to get subtitles INTO Encore.
However, after spending many hours carefully typing in subtitles for use in a Std. Def. video, and then wanting to reuse the same subtitles in a Widescreen video version (same timecodes, difference camera/angle)I was saddened to realize that I could not copy the "subtitle" object from one timeline to another, nor was there any way to export the typed in subtitles so I could import into the other timeline.
So my request would be to allow users to either copy subtitle "objects" from one timeline to another or allow the export of typed in subtitles so they could be re-imported into another timeline (or allow both).

I've been using Lemony to create all my subs and then import them directly into EncoreDVD. But I agree with you, it would be a nice feature request to add to the list. It shouldn't be so difficult to do. It just needs more than a couple of people to want the feature to make it worth Adobe's effort. Peace, BJ

  • Changing subtitle stream during playback of Video track

    Hi all,
Can someone please help me out with changing the subtitle stream during playback of a video track? The subtitle button doesn't seem to cycle through the 4 languages we have on the track.
    thanks!

    hey nipponese (great name)
when you press the subtitle button, does it restrict you, or does it not go through all 4 subs, or maybe even, does it go through more than your original 4?
do you have a menu, or is it just the video, audio and subs?

  • Urgent Help Needed: Subtitle streams

I am in the process of completing a multi language information film that has 6 audio streams including English and 5 subtitle streams. Everything is working perfectly well except when I test the DVD skipping a chapter causes the subtitle stream to change? I can't see any reason for this?
Has anybody got any ideas or has come across a similar problem?

I can't see a reason why the stream is changing, but when you skip ahead in a DVD the subs will disappear until the next chapter marker is encountered. This is annoying, but normal.
How are you setting the subs up? Are you using scripts at all?
The more info about the project the easier it is to try to solve the issue.

  • Buttons over video, subtitle stream displays on wrong story!

Here's a quick run down of my project:
the client has a video program which should play two different ways. the first button on my main menu should play the video program with no subtitle streams on. the second button on my main menu enables the same program to be played only now with subtitles stream 1 turned on. the subtitle stream is serving as buttons that appear over the video which jump to other submenus.
my problem is that the first button, no matter what i've tried, still displays the subtitles stream though i don't want it to. i have one track of the video with two stories, 1 for display without the subtitle track and the other to display with the subtitle track. the button for the 1st story is set with the "view" option unchecked for subtitle stream 1 while the second is set with the "view" box checked...yet it still displays both! i've checked my disc options and the subtitle track's "view" is unchecked...
i'm at a loss for what else to try. please help!

i'm encountering the exact same problem with buttons over video in dvd studio pro. despite of the fact that the simulation within dvd studio pro works flawlessly, after buidling the video_TS folder and opening it in the dvd-player application, you can't hide the subtitles anymore (you can set the subtitle-streams in the menu to whatever you like but the subtitles never disappear). the same problem exists if i burn or build and format a physical dvd.
help is really appreciated! thanks in advance for every hint!

  • Subtitle stream mapping - 16:9, 4:3

    Hi,
I just learned that the "big" Authoringtools (Creator, Scenarist and even Maestro!) are able to assign Subtitle streams to different aspect ratios. So you can, have for the same, language 2 subtitle streams (one for 16:9, one for 4:3 LB). The user will only see one Stream dependend how his player is configured.
I believe this is not possible with dvd SP?!
If not, is this possible to asign with "DVD After edit" ?
    cu,
    matthes

    hi rob,
you can choose subtitle streams by scripting in DVD SP. but i believe you would not be able to hide subtitle streams belonging to the setup of the user. For one language the user should ONLY see (and be able to select within the movie) the subtitle stream that fits to his setup.
DVD After Edit has this feature. And i know also found were it has to be done:
Its in the PGC of the movie where you have the subtitles.
If i understand this correct it works nearly similar to the subpicture mapping of Maestro. But in Maestro you can set Streams also "None". I presume this is "0" in DVDAfteredit. Or is "0" the first stream? (here im a bit confused).
For a setup with One language and two streams ("Wide" and "Letterboxed") the setup would be:
Stream1 (Wide subtitles in DVD SP track): Wide=1 ; Letterboxed=0 (None)
Stream2 (Letterbox Subtitles in DVD SP track): Wide=0 (None) ; Letterboxed=1
I post this also to the presales forum of DVDAE, hopefully Larry Applegate will confirm that,

  • Vimeo version with subtitle stream included?

Using DVD Studio Pro, I've made a DVD with three subtitle streams (French, Spanish, and German).  Now I need to post the German version to Vimeo.  How can select that subtitle stream, and make a compressed version of the film for upload?  Any help greatly appreciated.

If I understand what you are doing, you should have had 3 QUICKTIME files in DVD studio pro with 3 Tracks and the person chooses from a menu to play with French, Spanish or English subtitles?  If that is correct, you will then need to take the quicktime that you used to import into DVD Studio pro that is the GERMAN file and run it through compressor. In compressor you can pick the format you need based on VIMEOs requirements - should be H.264 version.  Then upload the file to vimeo.

  • Subtitles too complex , copy subtitles?

I am putting 4 graduation ceremonies onto separate DVDs. I put the subtitles into one of the ceremonies using Encore,(time consuming I know but not in a serious time crunch yet).Outputted to DVD and everything is great. Seeing how the speeches are basically the same between ceremonies replaced 1st ceremony asset with 2nd ceremony asset, moved subtitles to
sync up and changed content on some (for adlibs and miss speaks, can't anyone stick to a damn script).Had to move large sections of subtitles due to change of order of speakers. Check project and is fine. Start burning DVD and after transcoding video get to subtitles section and it stops telling me the subtitles are too complex. Any suggestions? Will lassoing and copying subtitles and pasting into new project work?

"Subtitles or subpictures too complex to build." error message. Encore CS4, Win XP.
I wrestled with this, even attempting to delete cached files until my original project wouldn't load. I rebuilt the project and all the navigation in a new project, and reimported all the subtitles, blocking them as before. I got the same error message on build. After seeking advice online I tried narrowing my left and right text field margins in the subtitle import dialog to 100 and 620. Same error on build.
I built a new test project, importing one subtitle track at a time without modification onto a new timeline with my project's video. That was OK on build. I modified 2 of the subtitles in the same way as before, making the typeface smaller. That build was rejected with the original error message. I returned the typeface size of that page to the original size. That built ok. I tried squeezing the text aspect for the one page to get the blocking I wanted. That build was rejected. I returned the text aspect to normal but re-blocked the page to get the text to at least fit, even though it wasn't the layout I wanted. (I took some of line 1 in French and moved it to line 2.) That built. I am cutting my losses and letting the blocking go for that language, on that page.
Bottom line: it appears that you can't mix typeface sizes in subtitle tracks, at least in my single experience. I did find another post that claimed that making a larger outline on the text also can remove the error on build, but I found that out later, so didn't get to test it.

  • Muxing (Building) Takes 50 min with 3 subtitles streams!!!

Hi, I wish to know if anyone have this trouble.
Im currently making a 4 track DVD each track have a 50 min M2v video track, 2 AC3 audios, and specially 3 text STL subtitle streams. When i build the project it takes up to 50 minutes to mux everything, if i remove 2 streams of subtitles it takes only 8 minutes...
I also author a DVD with the same m2v ac3 and the 3 subtitles in a PC with Spruce DVD Maestro *pentium 2 800 MHz 512 RAM, And the same project that takes Studio PRO 50 min to build takes only 9 minutes to the PC
Im plenty of RAM, hard drive, etc.. is this a bug of studio PRO 4.03? or is there a trick or tip to do this, its amazing 50 min... please if anyone have a idea of what is happening please let me know
    Regards
    G5 Quad 4.5 GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

hi, yes when i say muxing im refer to build and mux audio, video and subtitles, not to "compress video or quicktimes to m2v" the files were previously converter in compresor" i have been working with DVD for many years, and these sound me more like a bug, cause it supposed that DVD studio pro is somehow based on SPRUCE DVD MAESTRO, and this software do the process in no more than 10 minutes,
As i told, when you put more than 1 stream of subtitles per tracks, it take a lot of time to mux
