Copying Text Between Illustrator Files

Hello,
I am creating a new document layout in Illustrator CC based on content from an existing document. I need to paste text from the original document into the new document and reformat it into the style of the new doc. Is there a way that I can copy the text from the original and have it paste into the new file with the formatting of the new text?
For example, I copy 10 pt Arial text from the original doc. Go to the new doc, highlight the existing text which is 12 pt Myriad Pro, paste and automatically have the new text paste as 12 pt Myriad Pro. For now, I have to copy the text, paste it in Notepad to remove the existing formatting, copy it again and then paste in into the new file.
I tried searching this, but could not come up with any answers. I'd appreciate any help you can give. Thank you.

It's not clear how you've assemblked this animation, but if it is already a symbol in your library you can copy the symbol from one file to the other. If it is not a symbol and is just an animation along the main timeline, you can create a symbol of it by copying the frames into an empty movieclip. Even if it involves multiple frames and layers it is a fairly quick task to complete... Select the frames involes -> right click the selection and select Copy Frames -> create a new moviewclip symbol -> select the only keyframe in that new symbol and right click it -> select Paste Frames. You can now take that symbol and copy/paste it into the library of the other file.

Copy Labels (text) in Illustrator file into keyword (file info) field

I'm curious if there is any way to copy the text in an illustrator file, and paste it into the keyword field within the file info dialog box, with those words being separated by commas.
If I do this manually, the text is pasted as one long running word, making the keywords useless.
I do have an applescript which extracts the text from an illustrator file, and pastes it into an excel file, separating the words with commas, with file name. However, it doesn't seem possible to then import this data back in to multiple files. Bridge doesn't appear to be capable of this....
..so the alternative I can see would be to get the text directly into the file info box, separated by commas... just not sure how.
any ideas? I have thousands upon thousands of artfiles that need to be keyworded somehow!

I think there is two ways:
a) Although I have no serious experiences with Bridge scripting I think you need a Bridge script which runs over your Illustrator files, calls an Illustrator script for collected labels and use the Bridge API to write the metadata back into the file.
b) You write an Illustrator script which runs over the files and collects the labels and creates a text file with these information (file name, keywords). Process this file and use a 3rd party XMP tool for adding these keywords to the file.

Can i copy text from illustrator to indesign and retain attributes

Hello,
I received an illustrator cs3 file that I need to convert to InDesign cs3.
Is there a way to copy the type that is set in illustrator to indesign, while retaining the attributes. I need to be able to make changes on the type in indesign, so converting type to outlines isn't an option.

Even though you can change your InDesign preferences for Clipboard Handling to allow formatted information to be pasted into InDesign from other programs, unfortunately Illustrator still won't allow you paste in text with formatting. This is due to how Illustrator and InDesign handle text differently. Even if you copy the text from Illustrator and paste it into a program like Word, which has a lot of different ways to handle formatted text, Illustrator just treats text differently than other Adobe applications.

Copying text from PDF files in another language

When I try to copy text from a PDF file which is written in Greek - the minute I paste it into another document, the text cannot be recognized so comes out as a jumbled mess. How an I solve this problem??

Into what other document type? Word? Do you have a Greek font selected when you paste? Or a Unicode font?

Error Message when copying text between sequences

I hadn't had this issue until updating to the most recent version of FCP. Basically, I am trying to copy text from one segment to another. The text has edge wipe transitions at their heads and tails. I get a message that says 'This edit cannot be done because a transition would be cut or an item to one side of a transition would become too short.' I don't see why this would be the case since I am copying the entire file, including the transitions and I am pasting it on a place in the sequence where nothing could affect the length. I'd be really interested to hear if anyone has ideas on how to overcome this. Thanks.

I get this too...oddly. Copy the text WITHOUT the transitions on the head and tail, then add them later.

How can I copy text from pdf file to Pages or Word?

I recently changed to Lion. When I try to copy pdf text from either Preview or Adobe reader into either Pages or Microsoft Word I get all undecipherable characters. This did not happen in previous OSX versions. Is there a fix?

I have found that some pdf's are "protected" so that it is not possible to copy text. Does this happen to all your pdfs, or just some?

and put notes on it I want to copy and paste the text to a copy of the same
drawing as per attached where I want to be able to copy and paste the notes
on the pdf signed drawing to the pdf issue A drawing. I have have managed
it a couple of times but I am not able to copy and paste consistently.

Why can I not copy text from a file and paste into "File Name" when saving?

I thought I used to do this but I cannot copy a string of text from within AI (CS5, CS6 or CC) then "save as" and paste into the "file name" field. Why would this be?
This proceedure works fine in Photoshop.
Mac OSX 10.7.5.

I am copying the characters not the object. Something seems to have changed at the system level. I can paste the text to other applications (Skype, Word, etc.) but not the "Save" dialog. I have been pasting the text to a Skype message window and re-copying. Then it will paste into the save dialog. Weird.
I see you are on 10.6.8. Maybe it's a system difference.

Help with Automator to copy text from multiple files

I'm new to automator and applescript but it seems like what I'm trying to accomplish is fairly easy.
I'd like to run a workflow that will open a text file, copy the contents, paste the contents into a given application and then take a screenshot.
I'd like to be able to do this for several hundred text files.
I've tried with a Service but can't figure out how to provide the text input after "Get Specified Finder Items".
Get Specified Finder Items --> Get Contents of TextEdit Document --> Copy to Clipboard --> results in no data.

You'll need to use Applescript (you could use the Automator Run Applescript Action).

Anyone have idea, how to copy zprogram's text elements to an ascii file?.

Hi,
What i understood from the question is, you have to copy all the text elements of a zprogram to ascii raw file.
Use READ TEXTPOOL <zprog> INTO itab LANGUAGE sy-langu, so you will get an it of type textpool.
You can use GUI_download to download contents of it to ascii for. I think it will work out.

Flash CS3 crashing with copy/paste between 2 files

Hi.
I am a flash games developer, and I am currently working on a game that is truly massive.
The main file size is over 250MB.
It's been a work in progress for about 4 months of solid work.
Due to the size of the file, I prefer to create things like characters and objects in another file. I then need to import it over, replacing old movieclips.
When copying and pasting now, it always crashes, or tells me that its run out of virtual memory.
It appears to be impossible to get it all over, even bit by bit.
I've saved and compacted, I've saved as, I've moved it onto another disk drive.
All of the above seemed to help temporarily, but I'm now at a stage where nothing is working.
I don't think the file is corrupted in anyway. I've had no problems with any other component of flash. Just the copying.
I just don't understand what's so intensive about moving over an object of about 10-20 mb.
My computer is quite high performance, 5.6ghz, 4gb of ram.
I've asked for help on so many forums now, and all i get is criticism at my file size. Well it can't be helped. It's a massive game.
I've tried using a runtime shared library, but unfortunately it doesn't allow attachmovie to get it from the library. It seems the identifier is only being used to connect the 2 libraries when you set up a runtime shared library.
attachmovie is very important to the code and it can't be done any other way.
Please please help.

Ok, So I was getting frustrated so I copied the file I was
working on onto a thumb drive. Just for the heck of it I tried
opening and running it from the thumb drive and for some reason it
works! I really can't figure out why though. Same computer and
everything but if I just read straight from the USB key it works
completely fine. I'm really confused with this problem now. I also
am getting the same crashing error when I open certain files from a
certain folder.
I'm running XP. I refuse to update to Vista :)
but it seems that we are having the same problem despite the
different Operating systems. So this is a very interesting
problem...
Any one else have any help tips for us?

Copying animations between Flash files

In Adobe Flash CS3, is there a way of copying a complex animation from one document to another, differently sized document and have it appear in the same relative position, i.e. bottom left of my stage?
I created a growing flower for a 300x250px file, and I want to use it in a 728x90px file. It has many keyframes. I tried pasting in the frames, but it appears off stage. I need to move it upwards. Do I have to move the elements at each individual keyframe, or is there a way of moving it universally at one go?

Copy/Paste text between Photoshop & illustrator CC not keeping formatting

Hi, before when I copied text over from photoshop to illustrator it kept the text formatting. For example the font, font size, color.
Now when I use CC and copy paste text from PS to AI, all text formatting is lost and everything is placed as whatever the current AI text setting is.
HOWEVER, pasting from AI to PS WORKS as it should. All font/text formatting is maintained.
Is this a bug or is there a setting for this that I just never knew about?

A problem with copying text from english pdf to a word file

i have a problem with copying text from english pdf to a word file. the english text of pdf turns to be unknown signs when i copy them to word file .
i illustrated what i mean in the picture i attached . note that i have adobe acrobat reader 9 . so please help cause i need to copy text to translate it .

Is this an e-book? Does it allow for copying? It is possible that the pdf file is a scan of a book?

Can not copy text from AI CC or AI6 in to the file name

I have an AI file with 80+ UPC codes that I need to separate in to individual files. Each UPC has a descriptor but when I copy the text and then try to paste it as file name it will not paste. I use this same process regularly in InDesign when I design print ads. Each print ad has a unique item number that prints with the copyright line so I simply copy and paste that information when I do the save.
Under File Handling and Clipboard both PDF and AICB are on. I've tried this in AICC and AICS6. I also tried different files. Same issue. Any suggestions? I really don't want to have to type 80 some descriptions which are very lengthy.

I can not copy the text from Illustrator in to any OS X application/function (filename, Mail, Text Edit, ect). I can copy in to InDesign, Photoshop, Flash, and other other Adobe product. I can copy in to Word as well. I guess my work around will be Word.
And the opposite is true. I can copy text from any other Adobe application to any OS X application/function with no issues.
I guess my work around will be to OCR the text from Acrobat and open in Word. The descriptors have to be 100% accurate and some of them are pretty long.
