Copying text from PDF files in another language

When I try to copy text from a PDF file which is written in Greek - the minute I paste it into another document, the text cannot be recognized so comes out as a jumbled mess. How an I solve this problem??

Into what other document type? Word? Do you have a Greek font selected when you paste? Or a Unicode font?

How can I copy text from pdf file to Pages or Word?

I recently changed to Lion. When I try to copy pdf text from either Preview or Adobe reader into either Pages or Microsoft Word I get all undecipherable characters. This did not happen in previous OSX versions. Is there a fix?

I have found that some pdf's are "protected" so that it is not possible to copy text. Does this happen to all your pdfs, or just some?

Copying text from PDF to Pages

I am trying to copy text from a PDF file into Pages, after pasting the copied text into my new Pages document the spacing between most of the text becomes corrupeted,
for ex.
"Copying text from PDF to Pages" is imported as "CopyingtextfromPDFtoPages"
does anyone know how to correct this?

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
After reading your post, I tried to duplicate this problem. I opened a PDF, selected a sentence, then copied it to the clipboard. I then opened Pages, selected the blank template, then pasted in the text. It pasted perfectly.
Does this problem happen with all text in a PDF? With different PDFs?

I have Googled this but not a single answer seems to work.
I am using Photoshop CS4 on OS X 10.6.7.
OK, so I have a layer that has some text in it. I would like to be able to simply copy that text from one layer to another, but this seems to be impossible as the Edit Paste menu item is grayed out after I have copied it in to the clipboard. I can paste it into the SAME layer, but not into another layer.
This is how I am trying to do this.
In the layer with the text, click on the "T" icon to the left.
Click on the text, in the layer that I want to copy.
I select the text (either by clicking and dragging or pressing Command-A).
Next I press Command-C.
Then I click on the layer In the Layer Panel) where I want to paste the text.
Pressing Command-V is impossible because the Edit-Paste menu option is grayed out!!!!

First thing you can simply right click on the Text Layer and choose Duplicate Layer. But that will create a new Text Lay
er identical to the one you have.
To answer your question in your case.... Create the Text Layer. Make a New Layer. Or have the layer you want to paste into visible.
Highlight the text layer in the Layer Palette and Ctrl+Click (Win) Cmd+Click(Mac) so that you see marching ants walking around your text.
Edit>Copy.
Then highlight your Layer you want to paste into and hit Edit>Paste or Cmd+V / Ctrl+V.

Adobe Reader does not allow editing the text of a PDF document. You will need to get Acrobat on your Windows or Mac to do that.

Can Pages automatically copy text from one page to another?
For example recurring text in a document e.g. addressee details or a date (not today's date).
I want to type the topic title of one letter and have it automatically filled into the correct field in the next page which will be a letter to a different recipient.
The letter text will be different for each recipient so mail merge probably won't work.

Just Check the settings of your text type in the text determination procedure.
Select ur text type and click on details u will find the text id description sequence and
Transfer field u have various options u select the option "B" for ur text type .
U can take reference of the Standard Text determination Procedure "ORDER001" for doing the same
for your text determination Procedure
Menu Path--
Crm-Basic Functions- Text Management-Define Text Determination Procedure - select the Object --
example for CRM_ORDERH and click on Procedure and select ur text determination procedure --
Select Definition of Procedure that gives u details of your text type and its options

Help: Copy text from PDF to AI or MS Word

I'm new to this boards so, if topics like this were brought up I'm sorry and be glad, if someone can redirect me to it.
I've also searched for solution throu google and did not find anything that would fix this so I came here as my last option
I have recived a PDF document from a company about pad printing. I'd like to copy some text from this PDF to Illustrator/Word so I could edit some things. I could retype all but document has over 55 pages and I'm leaning thowards easyer solutions than retyping everything.

all I get is some encrypted symbols...
If any1 could direct me to some guide or post solution how I could get text from this document to AI/MS Word I'd appreachiate it.

I don't know why you wanna use rapidshare for reference, would you know there were many problem about them? Actually I hate rapidshare.
You can use Acobat to your work easily, as this way has been suggested, I would introduce you another free approach.
1. Download AnyBizSoft PDF to Word Converter, which is a totally free desktop applicaiton.
2. Install and launch the app.
3. Import PDF files. You can add many files at a time as well as choose the certain page of a file.
4.Set output folder and click Convert
Word done and hope that I provide some assistance.

Copy text from FrameMaker 11 to another editor

It appears that one cannot copy text in FrameMaker 11 and paste it into another editor such as Notepad++ or MS Word. It is as though FrameMaker does not use the Windows clipboard. We observe this behavior with WYSIWYG View and Author View. On the other hand, we can copy text from the XML View and paste into these other editors with no problem.
This issue seems to have been introduced with FrameMaker 11, as we can copy and paste the identical text from FrameMaker 10. As another data point, unstructured FrameMaker 11 also allows copy and paste to an external editor.
Can anyone provide insight into why this behavior occurs and how we might modify it?

Hi Russ,
I tried your suggestion and saw no difference between the keyboard shortcut and the menu command. However, your question about there being anything unusual in our files led me to think about what might be different. The difference is that we use DITA-FMx. I converted back to native FM DITA and the anomaly disappeared.
I'll contact Scott Prentice directly about this issue to minimize traffic on this forum.

Copying text from pdf with embedded font

I have tried everything to copy and paste text from pdf into word. I think because it has embedded text it comes over as garbled. I have downloaded the font, tried to open it in several other aps, viewed it as html -- to copy and paste ...

Copy text from PDF and paste to imessage

Before iOS7 I would be able to copy text from a PDF file and paste it normally into a text message or imessage. Now when doing the same thing it doesn't paste the actual text I copied, but it pastes as an html attachment. Have I changed a setting or is this just a bug that needs to be fixed? Please help.

I get the PDF in an email and open to view it. Not sure what the pdf opens in automatically, but that is the way I've been doing it since I've had the iphone 4 and haven't had issues until ios7.
I just now tried to opened a file in the default view and then switched it to open in Adobe reader and I can copy and paste normally. So now i have to do an extra step all the time?

Copying text from pdf, "square" characters

Using SQL 2005 standard edition.
I have an issue with pdf generated reports. When copying text from the pdf (from a cell in a table row) the characters are just pasted as "squares" into notepad\word etc. Each character is just a small square. I am using Arial font and not doing anything outside of the norm. This is also an inconsistent problem, it doesnt happen on all cells\tables but only on particular ones. Could it be data specific?

It is not data specific but the format specific. There are many similar issues commonly encountered. The reason is that the format in the clipboard cannot be well recognized by notepad or word. You can refer to this article:

From which you can read:"Microsoft Word does not directly support conversion from Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). PDF is the format in which documents are saved for viewing and exchange in the Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Acrobat Exchange for Windows."
For those words if you could not copy/paste successfully, you may use some tools from Adobe company to extract the data from PDF file to some recognized format such as HTML. I know that there is a tool which can do this conversion:

Can't Copy Text From PDF Within Gmail Preview

Hi,
If I click on a pdf attachment while inside gmail, I get the expected preview window of that PDF. However, I can't copy text from it. If I press Command-C, it just makes a beeping noise letting me know nothing is being copied. If I select text and right-click, there's no 'copy' option. Also, in the top toolbar, Copy is greyed out in the Edit menu. However, if I just hold down Command-C for a couple seconds the text will copy anyways (while hearing a dozen audible beeps). I can copy text without issue using Firefox from the same PDF attachment preview inside Gmail.

Having same issue as well. I've had this problem pre-Yosemite and it seems to be Safari related. Copy to clipboard in Gmail preview works fine in Chrome & Firefox, just not Safari. As you indicated if you hold ctrl-c long enough it will eventually copy, just forces you to listen to the series of annoying bongs.
Also there's no copy to clipboard in the context menu as illustrated below:

Pretty annoying really, I'm not about to download a dozen attached PDFs to copy to clipboard, so now I'm sitting in the Delta lounge with my laptop bonging away as I wait for Safari to copy to clipboard and everyone looks at me like I'm a moron.
NOTE: No I do not have acrobat or any other software loaded besides vanilla Safari. This has gone on on my MBP, Mac Pro and now this brand new MBP I got Monday as a company upgrade, it literally has nothing installed on it at the moment.

HELP: Copying layers from one file to another to keep structure not possible??!!!

I have a curious question. Sounds a bit silly and highly disappointed if Illustrator is actually not capable of doing this. Hopefully I have missed something.
I have an AI doc that has grown so large that saving it now is a major effort so trying to break out sections into multiple AI files. Allot of users will be working on these files so it is imperative that all the Artboard elements are clearly organized in the appropriate folders (layers). Im trying to simply copy and paste a layer that has multiple layers beneath and within those more layers to another empty AI file. Everything copies correctly and in place however it dumps all the elements into a single massive layer in the new file. If I go into the Layer Palette menu and check on Paste Remembers Layers it does a better job at keeping some of the structure but it still doesnt copy exactly how the structure was in the Master document.
Please tell me Im doing something wrong. I cant believe that you cant simply drag and drop a parent layer from one file to another while maintaining its structure! Exactly like in Photoshop - copying a folder from one file to another is simply as easy as dragging and dropping ...is this same methodology not available with Illustrator? I always assumed the layer and folder concept between these two packages were somewhat interchangeable.

Hi All,
After much trial and error trying to locate where the problem was it ended up being the guide objects. If you have the guides set to lock and attempt to copy out any layer that a guide is sitting in the resulting copy/paste will break apart that layer structure in the destination file. Simply setting the guides unlock allows everything to translate correctly.
You guys may have known about it already but I learnt a little something in the process. Thanks to all for your suggestions!
