Copying Titles

I've selected the font, font size, text color and background color for captions. Is there a way that I can copy these preferences and paste them onto other clips so that all I have to do is change the words in the caption for the new clips? Or do I have to format the caption from scratch for each new clip?
For example: The caption for clip one might be "living room," for clip two "dining room," for clip three "bedroom." I'd like to be able to copy the formatting from clip one to each of the other clips, while having the ability to change the words.

This is great. How about copying titles from one project to another? Can this be done?
What I am actually trying to do, is merge projects based on selected keywords, keeping the titles created within each project intact.
Any idea how I would best accomplish this task?

I had this problem, too, with a video I've just edited. It's over an hour long and the MacMini 1T with fusion drive was struggling last night. The titles kept changing, deleting themselves, then suddenly clips were being chosen I didn't touch, etc. I had to put a simple scrolling credit in four times. Five title slides took over 2 hrs to complete and only thru trial and error did I find fonts that wouldn't suddenly get bigger, or get bigger partially, or change to left justification. Was very frustrating. And, of course, I won't actually get to see what the title cards ACTUALLY look like until the final mp4 is rendered. I feel your pain. PS As I hate Gill Sans, I did eventually go with Futura Medium and that didn't become so squirrelly as so many of the others.

Copying Titles in Title Window causes PPro CS5 to crash

Hi Community,
when i copy a title in the title window, PPro CS5 crashes immediately after pressing "STRG+C" or right-click "Copy" (Windows) with a heavy error-message and premiere closes itself. This happens with Mercury Playback Engine ON and OFF.
Anyone experienced the same problem?

I can't reproduce this at all.
I can cut copy and paste in the title window, create a new title based on the current ine (using the icon top left) and I can cut copy and paste titles in the project window. No crashes at all.
Can you give us some more exact steps to follow and I'll see if it works here. Include project presets etc.

I found a similar thread and it mostly solved my problem. Using the Option-Click to drag a copy of the title worked great. My problem was the duration. I din't notice this, but another thread showed that when you hover that copied title over the very first part of the clip or the very last part of the clip, it would make it a short duration (4 seconds). I was dragging the title all the way to where I wanted it to be placed, which makes it fill the entire duration of the clip. I don't like that, but now I can Option Click copy the title I want, drop it right next to the title I copied from, and then drag it to where the score changes (and then increment the score up 1). Seems like an extra step, but it does work. Thanks for the help!

Is there a way to drag, copy, export parent folder shown in light room with multiple child folders to smug mug?

I have a parent folder called FHS Dance Competition, that contains several folders (one per team). I have this structure in my computer hard drive which I uploaded with one click to light room. In the past I've had to manually create each folder, copy the name, drag in the photos, etc. Very time consuming. Is there a way to drag or copy, or export the parent folder shown in light room to the lower portion of the screen where the smug mug piece is?

I too need to make "Real Copies" of images and hate doing anything directly from the OS because of the chance that my LR catalog gets out of Sync with the actual images on the computer. So I make the copies inside LR with an export routine and then move the copies inside of LR with the normal drag and drop. Once the export preset is created it can be executed from the Library Grid by right-clicking on the image (or selected images) to make the copies. Advanced Title Editor - Are there any available?

Could anyone help me with this?
I want to edit parts of a tag for multiple songs. For example, if I have a list of piano sonatas that read:
Sonata No. 9 Mvmt 1. ABC
Sonata No. 9 Mvmt 2. DEF
Sonata No. 9 Mvmt 3. GHI
I want to rename all of these files simultaneously to:
Piano Sonata No. 9 Mvmt 1. ABC
Piano Sonata No. 9 Mvmt 2. DEF
Piano Sonata No. 9 Mvmt 3. GHI
So basically, adding a word at the beginning of the titles for a group of songs, or some other modification within the title. Is there anyway to do this on iTunes, and if not (as I believe), is there any software that can do this?
I would also like to be able to copy title names from a group of songs to another group of songs, so that each group has the same titles.

Copy and paste doesn't work

I have attempted to copy values using copy/paste. When I apply the paste nothing is put in the designated cell. I have attempted to copy titles as well and they were not pasted.
I opened a new spreadsheet as a test and found that the copy/paste technique works on it. Why does this work on one spreadsheet and not the other? Have I turned something off or on which prevents this from working on the spreadsheet? Is there a preference that is involved?
I am running Snow Leopard on an iMac.

I had the same problem with a Numbers '09 SS that I got as an email attachment. I couldn't copy and paste cells, no matter what was in the cells. I couldn't move cells or groups of cells. The only thing I could do was highlight the contents of one cell and copy and paste that. But that gets old fast.
So I tried exporting the SS as an Excel document (I don't have Excel, but it doesn't matter) and then opening it again in Numbers. It Worked!! Now I can move and copy and paste cells, columns, rows.

Premiere elements 12 Re-using (self made) titles.

My name is Stephan and i am new here. I used to work with an other program but i had enough of the eternal problems. I decided to buy Premiere elements 12 (Dutch version) and i am very glad i did so.
My question is about the use of titles. I made a small title and would like to copy that and use it a little bit further in the movie. But changing the tekst in the first title also changes the tekst in the second (or other copied) titles. In some way the parts are linked withe eachother and this is of course not what i would like. I tried to change the name of the title, but still all the other titles change also. What can i do about this?
Also i made a title myself with some animation and i would like to uste that in other movies. I saw something from Elements 11 in which they said that you must select the title and export it as an title file. In 12 i can not do that. The Export button can not be selected.
Can someone help me??

What computer operating system are you running Premiere Elements 12 on? If you have not already, please update from 12 to 12.1 via a project's Help Menu/Update. Just background information for now.
The immediate issues...
"Change one title change others" is a classical happening since you are working with titles with the same file name. In Project Assets, right click the title's thumbnail, select duplicate to duplicate the title, and then drag the duplicate to the Timeline.
The secret to success in saving the title created in the Titler is to
a. With Titler closed, go to Expert workspace, Project Assets, and select/highlight the thumbnail for the title created in the Titler.
b. now when you go to File Menu/Export/Title, Title will be active and ready for use.
If you have not seen the following, it may be helpful to you as you move forward with your Premiere Elements projects and its titles.

Why can't a copy files?

What is error code -36?
Is there something wrong when I can't copy files over in one massive copy? I drag and drop individual files and they copy. Do a whole bunch and something will stop it saying, unable to copy "title" to "hard drive" because you don't have read/write error code -36.

Try starting up Disk Utilities and running "repair permissions" on the drive you are copying from, David.
( I'm assuming you have administrative privileges on the computer concerned).
What sort of files are they that you are trying to copy?

I am trying to make a simple program in xcode with applescript that has a text field where text can be written, and when you press enter it should say the text.
my script for pressing enter on the text field is below:

But when i buid it, it says it "Can't set text to title of theObject as string. Access not allowed. (-10003)"

'text' is a reserved word in AppleScript since it defines a class of object, so you can't use it as a variable name.
That's the main reason why most programmers use clearly unique/personal variable names like 'myText', or 'the_text', or similar.
Try rewriting the code as:
<pre class=command>copy title of theObject as string to myText
say myText</pre>
(or even 'set myText to title of theObject as string')

Creating new event in iCal from BBEdit data window. Calendar number fails.

When I try to create a new event in iCal I am getting the error "The variable theCalendarNumber is not defined." even though theCalendarNumber is supposed to be set in the preceding line. Does this have anything to do with embedding the tell application "iCal" within the tell application "BBEdit 6.5" loop?
Before this error I was getting a NSContainerSpecifierError error. I think that was because I was trying to specify the calendar as a string instead of a number as required by Panther OS.

You have a couple of issues here.
First, the line:
set theCalendarNumber to (first calendar whose title is theChoice)
However, theChoice is defined at:
set theChoice to (choose from list iCalendars with prompt "Choose the Calendar to use" OK button name "Choose" without multiple selections allowed and empty selection allowed)
Since you're allowing multiple selections, theChoice will be a list.
You can't get 'first calendar whose title is' a list. You will need to either permit single selections only, or extract the calendar name from the selected items (maybe iterating through them if you want to add the event to multiple calendars).
Once you address that, the line:
set theEvent to make new event at end of events of theCalendarNumber...
also won't work because theCalendarNumber will be the name of a calendar, so this command tries to set the event to the end of events of a string. Instead you need to ask for the named calendar, like:
set theEvent to make new event at end of events of calendar theCalendarNumber
Then you should be set.

I using a script I found long back and I'm trying to use to get disk space info from different servers with separate credentials.
I'm getting the below error and it has eaten my head but I'm not able to figure out where the problem lies in the code.

You got the error "Attempted to divide by zero.", because the input variable $totSpace is null, please note the variable $item when you invoked the function writeDiskInfo:

Is there any way to make copies of the maser image in LR3?

Is there any way to make copies of the maser image in LR3?
I do a lot of sports and dance photography and I need a way to make multiple copies of an image to drag into different folders in LR3.
Example: One dancer may be on several teams and I need to make copies of the team photos to put in each dancers folder before I upload them to my E Commerce site so each dancer see's their team photo with their individual photos in the same folder online.
I know I can make virtual copies, but you cannot drag them to different folders as copies, it will move the virtual with the master.
If they would just let us hold ALT or any key while dragging to "copy" instead of "move", my problem would be solved.
For now I have to go into Windows, make copies ,then synch the folders again. Pain in the rear to do that.
Anyone have any experience here?

Making an editable PDF Form non-editable (a shortcut)

How to make a PDF form non-editable or locked.
For those who aren't script-savvy, I believe this may be a little shortcut to editing a PDF form and then saving and sending it as a non-editable or locked PDF.
This is what I have written out for my client, whom I provided an editable PDF Form, so they could edit the PDF and then send it out to their own respective clients as a NON-editable PDF.
Instructions as follows:
How to save your PDF Form into a separate non-editable PDF to send to your client: (Using Adobe Acrobat Professional)
Step 1. Fill out the original PDF Form
Step 2. Once finished, go to “File” menu and click “Save a Copy” - title the file appropriately and save it to the desktop.
Step 3. Close the editable PDF document and do not save it (Saving it will save over the original file). Now open up the PDF you’ve just saved to
                    the desktop (you’ll now take the steps to make this file only non-editable).
Step 4. In the top menu, go to “Advanced” then select in that drop down menu “Security” then “Show Security Properties” - a ‘Document Properties’ window will now appear.
Step 5. From this new window, select the “Security” Menu. Set your ‘Security Method’ to ‘Password Security’.
Step 6. A new window will appear named ‘Password Security Settings’. In this menu, tick the box that says “Restrict Editing & Printing of the document”
            you’ll need to a) set a password for it, and b) In the ‘Printing Allowed’ drop down box, select ‘high resolution’   and if you want to, tick the
            box that says ‘allow the copying of text, images and other content’
Step 7. Click OK and Save the document. Now it’s not editable unless you have the password.
Note: If you happen to want to edit the PDF at a later date, you can open the file and in the ‘Security settings’ menu on the left hand side
(the menu is represented as a little gold lock) click ‘Permission Details’ then ‘Change Settings’ to revert everything back to an editable document
- repeat the above steps to make it a locked document again.

Thanks for your suggestions. You should also consider flattening a form if you want a non-editable copy; because the permissions password is not always respected by third-party PDF applications (for some people the form will remain editable, depending on what software they're using).
Flattening a form can be done in several ways in Acrobat: you can run a script - this.flattenPages() - or print the PDF back to PDF (aka refrying), or use the Sanitize tool in Acrobat X. It also strips out hidden content associated with the form (button actions, field calculation scripts, etc.) so provides additional data protection. Sanitize is the heavy-duty option of the three; it will remove all hidden content, leaving only what you see on the page.
One correction to your workflow - the Save a Copy menu item is not intended for creating a duplicate of a normal form, it's only available if the form has been rights-extended and it serves to remove the extension certificate from the PDF (allowing full editing in Acrobat again). As your client is working in Acrobat they don't need a rights-extended version in the first place, and working with a normal form will make things simpler for them. In Acrobat X Pro you could create them a custom Action which automatically flattens the file and saves a duplicate, so they don't accidentally overwrite the original.
