Copying X series BIOS settings to many, many machines

Looking for assistance and ideas for copying desired BIOS settings to many, many machines; both X61 and X200's.
NOTE: without using the new SRCMOS tool that is too expensive. Looks like we will be going to Altiris soon; if that helps.
I'm not a network guy so I may not understand everything but will be forwarding the info to folks that should.

Thanks tmiller! That's useful.
Welcome to the Lenovo Community!
I see that Hardware Password Manager is a brand new tool.
The reports say pricing "begins at $70 for one PC", so your actual price will depend on how many "many, many machines" is.
That does seem spendy for a small business user, but maybe large IT organizations can justify it.
I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

  • K7n2 delta series: bios settings & FSB

    Hello! All
    Happy Easter holidays!
Currently, I have my board fsb settings at 133 mhz and have an AMD 3000 Athlon, my question is: What settings should I have my FSB settings on? I would like to maximize my bios settings and I feel 133 mhz I am not maximizing system performance. Any help/direction would be appreciated.

    ReneH,
Your min FSB should be 166Mhz. Which flavor 3000+ do you have, since I think that one came in both 166Mhz (2.16GHz) and 200Mhz (2.1GHz) FSB's.
    Take Care,
    Richard
P.S. But with no specs on your comp and my Chrystal Ball in the shop for repairs, I can only take a spab in the dark.

That is the point of a beta version.
Software in the beta phase will generally have many more bugs in it than completed software, as well as speed/performance issues. The focus of beta testing is reducing impacts to users, often incorporating usability testing. "

  • Copy BIOS settings

How can I copy the BIOS-settings from ROM-A to ROM-B (Click BIOS II)?

If they are the same bios version you should be able to save the settings to usb then load them.
Otherwise just write them down and load them manually.

  • Bios settings explained ?

Any links to a good explanation of the bios settings for the MSI k8t neo series ?
There are some settings I have never seen before. Aside from that my specific question involves the AGP mode option. I'm not able to change the setting.
Does it have anything to do with the LDT to Lokar ? All I know is that the higher number is more aggresive. More than that I'm clueless. Up & Down are both 16 bit.
    frequnecy is 800Mhz.
I guess that it's linked to another option but haven't figured out which.
The 9800 pro that is in this machine shows in the software, AGP as off. Seems odd.
I am able to enable fastwrites and set the aperture size.

  • Ideal BIOS Settings for online gaming

this is my 1st computer that i built. i have a lot of experience in wiring high-end electronics, so wiring this little rig with barely any visible wires/cables was a breeze. I bought the processor/mobo with the intention of only doing minor O/C as i dont really know all that much on the hardware side of improving performance. with that said, i've searched for timings and settings for my specific combination, and i cant find any. again, i dont really want to push the config past a safe level, as i will be selling this machine when the 64's come down in price. can someone help me set the proper frequencies/timings? i have a lot to learn, and even in the normal bios settings i don't know if certain things should be enabled or disabled for my main purpose, which is to simply play 3D online games very  fast. i will be changing out the GeforceFX5200 PCI for a 5600 AGP in a week or so. I'm noticing that my old Comcrap PIII 1.0Ghz w/512SDRAM with this video card gets just as good a ping ingame as this rig does. the machine starts quickly, runs offline programs quickly, but online it isnt as fast as i'd hoped. from what i've read in the other forums, there are many settings in the bios that are enabled by default that don't need to be. can someone help me decipher which settings are useful and which are not. i loosely understand some of the settings but if someone could help with the questions below and/or do a walkthru for bios geared toward gaming i'd really appreciate it. The machine runs very cool (CPU 104*F/SYS 93*F) but i dont know what else needs adjustment. I simply want to make this machine go as fast and as hard as it can with the right config. i don't want to unlock the processor yet or do anything else major at this point.
1: Best yet safe Voltage for my processor and RAM
    2: FSB clock; 133 or 166? had problems @ 200
    3: S.M.A.R.T. on or off?
4: Best IRQ/PCI slot for video card
5: "GoodMEM" utility: how much should i safely allot?
    6: Video BIOS Cacheable?
    7: Multiplier setting for K7N2DeltaL & XP2600+
8: VGA Aperture (my card is 128MB but PCI. upgrading soon)
i'll be learning more as i go along, so i dont really need a full explanation of what's what, lol THIS TIME. all i need is a rundown where someone tells me what to leave alone, and what to change for a very fast yet safe gaming rig

    OK I'm officially confused.
I bought the retail boxed AthlonXP2600+, which clearly states on the packaging "With 333 MHZ Frontside Bus". i bought the board over others, one reason being it supported 400MHz FSB. I go into "Advanced Chipset Features" and when i set the "System Performance" to "Manual", i can then go into the "CPU FSB Clock" settings, but the max it will allow me to go to is 233MHz (which won't boot and i have to flip the jumpers. when i had set it to 200MHz before, it failed to boot as well... PLEASE can someone look over these settings and tell me the OPTIMAL settings for taking this combo as fast as it can go w/o overclocking? What am i doing wrong? what multiplier do i need to be at. I'm under the impression that the combo works best when the clock speed of the board is at the same speed as the processor. here are the  BIOS settings with which i need advice:

  • MSI 975X Power Up Edition - BIOS settings

    Hello
Please can someone help me in setting up BIOS for 2xSATA & 2xIDE disks or point me to some links.
I have this board working on/off for over a year with just one SATA disk but I have reached a stage where I would like to use all four disks.
Also, what is JMicron, what is it for and how do I need to use it or configure it.
    Many thanks

    Hello,
the board has two different controllers:
    1) Primary Intel ICH7DH Controller -> 4 x SATA + 1 x PATA
    2) Secondary JMicron Controller -> one additional SATA-port (different color) + one additonal IDE-Port (different color)
Now, there is no special procedure you have to follow to install additional hard drives or optical drives.  As in some case you may have to install additional drivers, when you use one of the ports hosted by the JMicron Controller, you will probably want to prefer to use the ports hosted by the Intel ICH7DH Controller.
Refer to your mainboard user manual to know which ports belong to which controller.
Note: If you are planning to attach two IDE drives to one IDE cable that is connected to one of the IDE port, make sure that you have jumpered each drive attached to that cable properly as MASTER & SLAVE.
There are no special BIOS settings to be made if you use the ICH7DH Controller ports.  If you want to use the JMicron ports, make sure the JMicron controller is enabled in BIOS.

  • Portege R600 - Modify BIOS settings out of windows.

    Hi,
I've got a question. Is there any possebility to modify the BIOS settings of a R600 with a tool?
Best would be something what uses a command line // could be opened with parameters,
I would like to change round about 100 machines remotely --> I definitely would need a tool for that.
    Thank you!

    Hm...
but I read about the possebility to do that on Toshiba notebooks while reading through the net.
And I can imagine that one of the many many tools which Toshiba is providing is able to do so...
In addition to that I know that its possible - another manufacturer provides a tool like that,
what is exactly able to do what I want. But only for the specific use on their machines.
    Is there really no way?

  • Without main battery, CMOS checksum invalid.Doesn't keep time and BIOS settings. Backup batt is OK.

Good morning all, some months ago my dv6-6159sl laptop started to have this problem: WITHOUT MAIN BATTERY (using as desktop replacement with AC adapter only, unplugging from wall outlet when I don't use it) immediatly after power on button pressed, I get black screen error" CMOS Checksum is invalid  .  CMOS reset (502) . " and it restarts with all BIOS settings reset and time reset at 00:00:00 year 2010... The problem appears randomly: for days I don't get it, then I get it once, twice...then everything OK for one, two, many days...and again shows up...and so on... NOTE THAT BACKUP BATTERY CR2032 HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE (for being sure) AND IS BRAND NEW, AND IS OK: A VOLTMETER SAYS 3,03 V . Tried to update BIOS to last F1.B , tried to revert back to F1.A and previous version (that is: I tried every single available BIOS on support page...)... No luck...Tried to recover BIOS with this procedure: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04126730  ... nothing changed...Tried to recover whole system...Nothing fixed... Notes: hardware hasn't changed , HDD and RAM are OK (tests done). What to do now? Call for repair? Thanks.

  • X60 factory and recommended BIOS settings?

Service guy changed some BIOS settings from factory default said it saves some energy and reduces CPU heat. My system overheated, previous service forgot to clean the inside, congratulations.
So my question is what are recommended BIOS settings for the X60, recommended changes from default? Service guy forgot to tell me what he changed so if I reset I can't get back to the settings he  implemented.
So preferably I would need the original settings printed, too, so I can compare it with the changes.

    Thanks for the reply.
The BIOS shows the modules are running at 1333.
The Weird thing is I had many BSOD problems before I changed the voltage and on SevenForums I was advised to run Run Memtest86+.
I runned Memtest86+ run a few times for over 8 hours and it showed no errors at all.
I will make the screenshots asap when I get home tonoght. Below are my system specs:

  • Bios settings K8T FIS2R MS 6702

I have installed am AMD 64 CPU 3200 on my K8T Neo FS2R mobo.
I have also set up a RAID configuration RAID 0 Stripping (for performance)
    Eveything is working fine.
However I feel I am perhaps not getting the best performance yet as the BIOS setting  are pretty much "default" and this shows my DDR440 at DDR200 and  there are probably many other settings to improve the performance,
I am not sure what the setup of the CPU should bee and I thought this should run at a faster FSB than the 200MZ showing in the Bios.

Thats not right, this is how it works.
I thought that when I put the RAM to "limit" DDR400 it should be running in 200MHz nomater how I put the fsb.
But this is how it works om K8T-NeoFIS2R.
    DDR400 is fsb/memory devider 1:1
    DDR333 is 5:4
    DDR266 is 3:2
    DDR200 is 4:2
No matter what you put in bios your RAM will run equal or what the deviders abouve says.
So if I put the memory in DDR333 and run fsb 220, the memory only go in 176MHz.
My Corsair can't handle more than 212 whith spec timings (2-3-2-6). To get the most out of the memory in this settings you'll have to run fsb like 260, and thats impossible whitout modding the board (Vcore).

  • K8T Neo FISR2 and Initial BIOS settings

I’ve have a YANQ… (Yet Another Newbie Question)
Are there any recommendations for initial BIOS settings for a new build?  I checked southmike’s  “My Unofficial K8t Neo Guide”  and searched posts.  I realize that many settings are based on Memory Configuration, OCing, personal preferences, etc.  But what I’m wondering if there is a basic configuration that has shown to be a good starting point for first time bring up?
I have not received my board yet, so if this is covered in the manual, sorry for wasting the space
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi
Apart from the Boot Sequence and the SATA / IDE settings you want, the best thing is run at safe defaults, and everything on auto, the mobo is good at selecting the best settings for good performance. And will probably perform better than if you try to tamper.
There is a lot of things to help you DOT, Core Center, etc.

  • P7N diamond bios settings listing, saving, and loading

I think I know the answer to both of these  questions, but what the hell maybe the obvious isn't always the case and a yes to either would be really cool so
Is there any way to list my bios settings, you know like a simple cat or tostring() so I can have a cheat sheet
if I save my bios settings in user settings, can I load those into a new version? (I'm thinking they're erased with the new flash, it wouldn't work, or it would flash back

Allow me one last comment in this thread because I think Karlbad did not get the point of my reply:
Creating a tool to readout parts of the CMOS Memory (where the settings are stored) is not a problem.  Here is the data a simple BASIC Program puts outs:
The tricky point is to relate each and every one of these numbers to their particular function within the parameters of my particular BIOS Setup structure.  To translate these numbers back to the actual options in the BIOS Setup mask is a possible task.  However, it takes many, many hours.  This in itself is not a problem either: the crucial point is that this needs to be done for any particular BIOS Version that is looked at.
If this relational problem is considered, it easy to understand that pen&paper and/or a digital camera are better ways to get the job done.  They do not take hours of programming which would need to be repeated for any particular BIOS Version.  And because of that, such tools are a complete waste of time, a complete waste of energy and ambition and also a pointless activity.  And (to take the arguement one step farther) that is precisely why you will not be able to find anything useful using Google.  Useful tools for this kind of task don't exist, because they are pointless.
Now, if that is to hard to understand, I don't know what to say.  Reacting with swearing is probably the only possible response.  However, it does not rule out the fact that your memory in conjunction with a pen and a piece of paper and/or a camera is the best option here.
    Quote
My 1.2 bios does have an option to save settings
Yes, but not to a file external to the BIOS and even if, you would get a similar sequence of raw data as you can see in the screenshot above.
Your best options under the bottom line:
    - use your memory
    - use pen & paper
    - use a camera
    --> Problem solved.
