Copyright status?

Is there any way to get or set the copyright status metadata?
In catalog:findPhotos(), you can use "copyrightState" as a criterion for matching metadata, but I haven't been able to get or set it from the photo metadata using any of the following:
photo:getRawMetadata("copyrightState")
photo:getFormattedMetadata("copyrightState")
photo:setRawMetadata("copyrightState", value)
I also tried "copyrightStatus". Is it simply not available to a plugin? "copyright", "rightsUsageTerms", and "copyrightInfoUrl" are all available.
Thanks,
Peter

The docs for photo:getFormattedMetadata() state the the following keys are valid from 1.3 on:
# copyright
# rightsUsageTerms
# copyrightInfoUrl
I assume you want to get an array of LrPhoto from the catalog using some search criteria, and then iterative through that picking off metadata you are interested. Is this not working?

  • BEWARE "Copyright Status", "Copyrighted" tag added in Lightroom doesn't show when image is opened in

    When meta data is added in Lightroom using the "Copyright Status" tag one would assume that the copyright symbol (©) would be visible in the image title when opened up in it's sister product Photoshop just like when using Bridge to add the same add meta data, well it doesn't.
    Those of us who make a living from licensing the rights to use images rely on copyright and notification thereof as an important part of being able to defend our rights. For a company that produces software for the purpose of disseminating such images I am surprised that two of their main products don't speak the same Meta data language. This is a serous bug for me and causes yet another step be taken in the work-flow outside of this otherwise good product.
    Those of you who don't know what I am talking about regarding your copyright ownership of the images should follow this URL http://www.asmp.org/commerce/legal/copyright/index.php to get educated on this important issue for intellectual property creators.

    I'm having issues with the IPTC copyright fields when I export TIFFs from LR2. Specifically, it cuts the word limit to 128 characters, clipping my terms in half.
    The 128-character limit is imposed by the IPTC standard:
    http://www.iptc.org/std/IIM/4.1/specification/IIMV4.1.pdf
    Note that LR stores the value of the Copyright field of the IPTC metadata panel in three different metadata locations in a file's Exif data:
    EXIF:Copyright
    XMP:Rights
    IPTC:CopyrightNotice
    It is only the last that the standards require to be truncated to 128 characters.  Newer programs like LR give precedence to the XMP fields if they are present, but older programs still use the legacy EXIF and IPTC fields.  In particular, when reading metadata from a file, if XMP:Rights is present, LR will use that for the Copyright value instead of IPTC:CopyrightNotice.
    Thus, you can have Copyright values longer than 128 characters in LR, and LR will preserve those values properly in the EXIF and XMP metadata, but the values in the legacy  IPTC:CopyrightNotice field must be truncated according to the standard.  If possible, adjust your workflow to use the XMP metadata instead.

  • Bridge CS3 - Metadata profile leaves Copyright Status blank!

    Using Bridge CS3 I have created a metadata template which against Copyright Notice I have filled in my name. When I add the template to an image file all the information successfully transfers but the Copyright Status field states: Unknown where I expected to read Copyrighted. When creating the profile where do I enter Copyright Status information? Copyright Notice seemed the obvious box to complete and no other field appears obvious. Help would be appreciated. Victor

    (PSE does not have Bridge):
    PSE for mac did for several years.
    For the OP, I see the same thing in 10.7: only the words "copyright notice" rather than the complete copyright data are appended. I'm not sure if this is because CS3 is so old now, but I do agree with Ken's suggestion to ask in the bridge forum.

  • XMP "Copyright status" not accessible?

    Just noticed that for files processed by LR, the "Copyright Status" xmp field, as shown in CS2 "File Info..." Description section (ACR 3.7), is always showing as "Unknown" (the 2 other choices are "Copyrighted" and "Public Domain")
    This happens for any file type I've tried, either raw CR2s from Canon 5D (with auto write change to XMP settings set), DNGs exported from raws, or JPGs. I've even tried enabling ALL metadata fields using the Metadata Panel Preset Builder from Jeffrey Friedl. The "Copyright Status" metadata field seems to not be available in the Metadata panel at all.
    With Bridge, I'm able to define a metadata preset to set the "Copyright Status" field, while not so w/ LR.
    I looked at older files I had (via "File Info...") that were processed by Bridge, and noticed that the missing meta data fields for files processed by LR belong to:
    XMP Rights Management Properties - xapRights:Marked
    and
    Adobe Photoshop Properties - photoshop:Marked
    This has a minor side effect of Photoshop CS2 not showing the copyright symbol for images that it opens.
    Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just not setting the metadata correctly? I know it's a minor thing, but just bugs me that I can't set a field in LR that I could in CS2.
    Thanks,
    Al

    I do recall at least one other thread made reference to the © symbol as seen in PS not happening with LR. One of the threads on the Lightroom Experts Mail list talked about is abit, too. http://mail.pixels.nu/mailman/listinfo/lightroom_pixels.nu

  • Metadata template created in Bridge can't change "Copyright Status" property

    If I create a metadata template in Bridge CS4, select Copyright Status and set it to Copyrighted,
    any other metadata changes in the template will be applied, but "Copyright Status won't change.
    I can't even manually set the Copyright Status from within Bridge.  If I try, I get an error message,
    "This property cannot be modified."
    Here's the workaround — create the template in Photoshop or Illustrator, not Bridge.
    Open one of the images in Photoshop or Illustrator, select File Info, enter the metadata,
    and select Export.  The resulting template will be available in Bridge,
    and it can change the Copyright Status.
    A fix for this in the next incarnation of Bridge would be greatly appreciated.

    As with almost all my problems, there is apparently no solution, so I am going to try reinstalling photoshop. So can someone at least tell me what is likely to be overwritten so that I can protect it.  And where they are stored? EG Web Gallery templates?  Keywords?

  • Setting copyright status in Bridge CS4 (Mac OS 10.5.5)

    I'm trying to add photographer's copyright status in the IPTC Core Metadata but the status is set to 'unknown' and the line is greyed out - double-clicking it returns the message 'This property cannot be modified'.
    Many thanks for any advice on how to do this.

    You can't change this in Bridge itself. If you open an image in PSCS4 you can create a template with the copyright included.
    Choose the menu File - file info
    In CS4 this is a new set up compared to CS3, it is now a Flash based window. You can drag the tabs to a new order you like best. If you choose the Description tab you will see the copyright status section. Choose copyright by clicking on the little arrow. Then fill in the other desired info in the other fields you like to add to the template.
    After finishing choose the arrow next to Show templates at the bottom, click on the arrow and a new submenu appears where you can choose export. This will save the new template, give it a proper name and your done in PS.
    Now enter Bridge and in the metadata panel you can choose the little arrow top right in the panel. In this menu choose append metadata and pick the newly created template. This will add the correct info at the copyright status field.
    If you are using the Adobe Photodownloader you can also choose to add this template to the files during import :-)

  • Aperture to Photoshop: Copyright Status = "Unknown"

    Does anyone know of a way of applying metadata in A3 so that it will show up as "Copyrighted" when opened in Photoshop (CS3 & CS4, next to Copyright Status in the File Info box) instead of PS displaying copyright "Unknown"?
    Thanks

    FizzyFizz:
    There is no way to set the +Copyright Status+ to "Copyrighted" as this is not part of the IPTC Core namespace (or IPTC-IIM either). Apple is only supporting IPTC Core 1.0 (which was released in 2005) and having some issues with that as witnessed in the other article referenced in this thread. It might help you to review the article *"How Important is the Copyright Status Feature?"* at http://www.controlledvocabulary.com/imagedatabases/is-copyright-status-important .html for details.
    Hope that helps.

  • File Info Copyright Status

    When I right-click on a file to acces the File Info, and then select the Description Tab (if it is not already selected), the Copyright Status drop down menu gives me only three choices:
    Unknown
    Copyright
    Public Domain
    Which slection do I use for Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License?
    Thanks

    the Copyright Status drop down menu gives me only three choices:
    That is because The file info is set up according to the world standard IPTC and Creative Commons does not seem to be supported inhere (yet).
    I did not hear from this way of copyright before to be honest but did a little search, don't think I'm gonna use it but it seems a fair way to distribute if you like so.
    My first thoughts about it where the same way as Yammer P already posted and sure choose copyrighted because otherwise you have no rights at all.
    There seems to be an other way but you have to try it your self and maybe even contact the guy that made it available.
    It is a custom Creative Common addition in the file info XMP panel that can be downloaded for free. I have to confess I tried it but could not get it to work correctly. There is less info about what to install where. I tried (on a Mac) on several locations bot system and user library but did not get further then the tab of Creative Common showing in the file info but then PS froze and had to be forced quitted.
    Hence the contact suggestion

  • How to Delete Copyright Status in Bridge Metadata

    I have added a copyright status field to bridges metadata by way of a metadata template. How can I delete the status copyrighted. I have made a metadata template with copyright set to unknown, but when I apply it in bridge in does not change the field. Any ideas?
    thanks, Joe

    This should do it...
    #target bridge
       if( BridgeTalk.appName == "bridge" ) {
    copyUnknown = MenuElement.create("command", "Copyright to Unknown", "at the end of Thumbnail");
    copyUnknown.onSelect = function () {
         copyUnknownSet();
    function copyUnknownSet(){
    var sels = app.document.selections;
      for (var i = 0; i < sels.length; i++){
    var md = sels[i].synchronousMetadata;
        md.namespace = "http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/rights/";
        md.Marked = "Unknown";

  • What about Copyright status in css?

    After I have chose Copyright status as "copyrighted" while exporting to epub, I want to see it somewhere in css sheet. But nothing appears.

    <dc:coverage></dc:coverage>

    Correction. In the latest version of InDesign (CC 2014) when you Export to EPUB (Reflowable) you get this new panel, which has a Metadata tab and in which you can add information including the ISBN, Title, Author, Publication Date and Rights.

  • Please make "Copyright Status" an editable option in creating metadata templates

    I'm new to the Adobe eLearning suite, including Bridge CS4.  I've found a workaround in the forums for this issue already, but I really think this is something that Adobe should fix in the Bridge software itself.  Apologies if someone else has already posted this as a feature request in this forum, but as it seems I'm unable to search within just this forum, I gave up looking.
    In a nutshell: "Copyright Status" should be a field available when choosing what IPTC Core metadata to include in a new metadata template.  And it's also not an editable field when looking at the metadata for an image!  The whole point of metadata templates is to make it unnecessary to edit a single field (like "Copyright Status") one image at a time.  Yet even with the new Bridge CS4, the Copyright Status field is not an option you can include in a new metadata template.  Surely it wouldn't be that big a deal to make the 3-item pick list of "Unknown," "Copyrighted" and "Public Domain" available on the Create Metadata Template checklist.  Or if having a pick list is too tricky to code on that form and it must be just a checkbox item, do that, and let us populate the text in the field ourselves.
    Currently, it's necessary to tweak the metadata on a single image to include the "Copyrighted" status, then Export it and save it as a new metadata template, just to have that one field populated by default.  Supplying copyright status as part of a template is a fundamental need for anyone creating or dealing with large numbers of images, and it shouldn't require a workaround to create a properly inclusive metadata template.
    Thanks!

    In Bridge CS4, highlight your thumbnail, go to the File Menu and select File and then File Info.  There you will be able to choose your Copyright Status under the Description tab.  What a pain in the butt!  Mine kept coming up "Public Domain!"

  • Copyright symbol and metadata template question

       In Bridge CS6 I have placed the copyright symbol, year and my name in the "Copyright Notice" section of a metadata template.  Chosen "Copyrighted" in the "Copyright Status" section.  And listed the terms in the "Right, Usage, Terms" section.  When I apply the template everything appears except that in the "Copyright Notice" section only my name shows.  No copyright symbol or year.
    What am I doing wrong?  Am I putting the information in the correct places?   (I have done it this way before using Lightroom, and it worked fine.)

    Sorry!  User error.  The copyright info I programmed in my camera was over riding the Bridge template.  Duh.  The template is working perfectly.

    To my memory this was not able in Bridge CS3 itself but not sure about it. Normal you would choose the wing menu from the Bridge Metadata panel to create a template. And I believe this was a bit limited in Bridge CS3.
    The workaround is to either choose file info in the Bridge menu file or do so in PS itself on an open file. From the given options you should fill in the fields you want.
    And for the copyright status you must choose from the three options: 'unknown', 'copyrighted' or 'public domain'
    When all fields are as you want them save it as template and you should be OK.

  • Copyright information erroneously added upon export

    When I export an image with no copyright data from Lightroom 3, copyright information is being applied from one of my metadata templates. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?

    So, I just ran 4 tests. I had thought that the error didn't occur when I right-clicked the image and selected the export preset directly, but it does. The image I used in these tests is a DNG file with all fields listed in my 1:04pm post above removed, the Created field changed to another name and Copyright Status field set to unknown. Here are my tests and the results:
    Using "Export" Button on Library Panel -- Selected the image and clicked Export from the left library panel. Used an export preset and saved the file to a drop folder on the same external drive and synchronized the folder. The error occurs (ie, all fields removed remain blank with the exeption of the Copyright field, which is repopulated with my copyright data).
    Right-Clicking and Selecting Export Preset Directly -- Selected the image, right clicked and directly selected the export preset used in Test 1 above. Saved the file to a drop folder on the same external drive and synchronized the folder. The same error occurs.
    Right-Clicking and Selecting Export Dialog Box and then Selecting Export Preset -- Selected the image, right clicked and selected "Export...". Selected the export preset used in Test 1 above, saved the file to a drop folder on the same external drive and synchronized the folder. The same error occurs.
    Explicit Import: Selected the image and clicked Export from the left library panel. Used the same export preset used in Test 1 above and saved the file to my desktop. Imported this file into LR3 with a Metadata Preset set to "none." The same error occurs.
    Since these tests, I have replicated the problem with multiple images (including a scan) using multiple export presets. Same error (ie, all fields removed remain blank with the exeption of the Copyright field, which is repopulated with my copyright data) occurs every single time.

  • Smart Collection and copyright

    I see how to set up a smart collection for copyright status. But I do not see how to set up a smart collection or filter that selects on whether the copyright field itself has been filled in (contains the © copyright symbol).
    Is there any way to do that? It seems to me that a flag saying an image is copyrighted is not terribly effective of the copyright statement itself is omitted.
