Corded Phones Don't Ring, Cordless Do

Hello,
We have recently realised that our corded phone no longer rings, whilst our cordless phone does. First we checked that the ringer option on the corded phone was switched on, which it was. We then tried unplugging the cordless phone and putting the corded phone in its place, and still no ringing. We tried the cordless in place of the corded and that did ring wherever it was plugged in. We also tried an old cordless phone, and that did ring. Therefore the two phones that require a separate power supply do ring, whilst the old corded phone that simply gets its power from the phone line did not ring, and I suspect this is where the problem lies. We tried some other old corded phones and they did not ring either, so it's not the phone that is faulty.
We have a buzzing noise on the line for which we've had engineers out (which still isn't fixed, although that is supposedly an internal wiring issue - our house is a new build), and I wonder if one of them has inadvertently done something to cause this (as the corded phone did ring a few months ago).
Before I contact BT support, does anyone know what could be causing this? I can cope with a reasonable level of technical jargon so feel free to throw it at me!
Thanks,
Simon

Hi, it is someting you can do your self if you feel confident enough. you may need to get hold of a special wire insertor (IDC tool) like thiswhich is used to connect the wire on the back of the frontplate of your main socket.
Have a look at this picture as it tells you how to disconnect the wire, you just need to do the opposite.
The best way to identify the correct colour to put back is to have a look at the wire on terminal 3 of your extension socket, you need to connect that colour back onto terminal 3 of your front plate.
The wire is laid into the groove of the connector and then "punched down" with the magic tool.
Hope this has helped

  • Residential phone: we can call out, and we can also receive calls, but the phones don't ring...

this just started today, sometime after 9am. working fine before then, and we didn't touch anything re: the system today.
    behavior:
    - we can call out fine
    - people calling in say it just rings & rings
    - we have no idea that someone is calling unless we happen to be looking at the CID of a plugged in phone
    - we can pick up the phone and have a conversation if we happen to catch it at just the right time
    - same behavior at the NIC or whatever it's called (the box in the garage).
    tried:
    - i've unplugged our main wireless phone and tried it w/a wired phone, no change
    - i've unplugged our verizon broadband modem, no change
we have a tivo that uses the phone line; i'm about to give that a shot.
    this is really bizarre...
    thanks for any ideas,

  • 8350i bluetooth on phone handset don't ring

I just purchased a 8350i Nextel Blackberry and found that when my Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth headset is connected, the phone does not ring. There are some beep tones in the headset indicating an incoming call.
I upgraded from a NON-Smartphone (Nextel i870) and with that device I could hear ring tones (even customer per caller) in BOTH the handset and the bluetooth device. So I go with a "smart phone" and it doesnt seem possible?
I have read at various places that this may be a bug, and also heard there is a software update coming on 2-11-09 that MAY address the issue. Nothing confirmed. I read a ton of posts that talk about this issue,.. but no solution.
I spoke with Nextel blackberry support and they denied there was a bug or a software update coming. She was telling me to change settings, reboot phone, clear logs, and all kinds of stuff before the call got lost (i was on a landline). Go figure.
Any chance this issue will be resolved?

ok no responses so far? seems like this problem has been posted before... it only effects the 8350i from Nextel/Sprint. Not other curves.
Though I found similar posts, I have not found anyone or anywhere with a solution. Many say its part of the phone and a "bug".
I am curious if the new software resolves it?

  • Landline phone calling out rings at destination but does not connect at home

When calling out to someone their phone rings and they hear us but the call does not connect on our end

Sorry to hear about your problem. Is this happening on every phone you use in the house? Cordless or Corded phones? Do you receive incoming calls fine?

  • Phone will not ring, no caller ID...

Ok, I have had this happened about five times now. My 8130 will suddenly start acting really sluggish. The hourglass symbol spins and spins when I click on anything and it takes apps forever to come up. And EVERYTIME that has happened, from then on out when I receive calls, the phone doesn't ring. It instantly comes up "Missed Call" and it always says "Unknown Caller". I then get frustrated because I don't know who has called and I finally reset the phone. It then works great until the next time it decides to happen.
So i decided that maybe it was some of the apps I have installed like Yahoo Messenger that are causing the phone to act wierd. So I go to remove them using the Desktop Manager (v4.7) which now will not work either. (I have detailed that issue in the "Software" forum!) I have tried uninstalling the software to reinstall it... but it WILL NOT uninstall! I keep getting a 1606 Network error.
Has anybody had any of this happen? What did you do?
    Nick

    Hi there!
    First off, reboot your device:
Anytime random strange behaviors creep in, the best thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, this one suffers from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
As for the 1606 error, here are some KB articles that discuss it:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB10933&slic...
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB11061&slic...
Since your desktop app is no longer running, you should do a clean uninstall:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB02206&slic...
    And then re-install:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=BlackBerryDesktopSoftware&thread.id=3...
Hopefully that'll get you started toward resolution.

Thanks so much but none of that helped.  It was driving me crazy because it would back up another external drive.  I just changed the name of the drive from iPhoto/iTunes Library to Media Libraries and IT WORKED!! I guess for some reason it didn't like the drive being called iPhoto or iTunes ???? I don't understand but I have tried so many solutions and exchanging things out but the name change did it????!!!
Thank you for your help and replying to this.  Guess I made my own issue!

Since I've bought my swr30 my phone no longer rings. I've the volume up to high on both devices. Nothing is set to silent. I don't understand what's happening.

  • My iPad don't ring every time after working all day perfect????

My iPad don't ring every time with a phone call so when I trust it and go to bed I have been missing calls but I get up and watch it and it works and rings Just fine.    I need to no.    Is it a setting that I may have on that's stopping it working?.

I should clarify, that I can update apps using iTunes on the MacBook and syncing. I cannot update or download anything from the device over wifi. Also, before I am asked, the network is fine, I can stream from existing apps with no problems. It's not the network.

  • Hand-off Phone Calls Continue Ringing

I have an iPhone 4S and MBP Retina. When by phone is close to my Mac, both the phone and Mac ring. But the problem is that the phone continues to ring after I answer the phone. I have to press the Esc key on my MBP to stop the Mac from ringing. It is quite annoying for me and for the caller. Is this how this feature works?

It's not entirely impossible actually as someone has pointed out to me that I can turn on Call Forwarding and that stops any incoming calls. I've just forwarded it to my google voice number and then turned on "do not disturb" in google voice and whenever I get a call it goes straight to my google voice voicemail and my phone does nothing. The only thing now is I still get text messages but I think the phone calls bugged me more because they would make my music turn off for much longer.
Even though this isn't a perfect solution it's something so far so maybe you shouldn't just come out and say there's NOTHING I can do because so far I've found part of a solution. If you don't have anyting productive to say then just don't reply and close the tab. Thanks.
At this point I'm wondering if anyone knows of any Jailbreak tweaks that can enable what I want. Unless of course it's agaisnt the rules of this forum to mention jailbreak stuff...

  • How do I quickly turn off the notifications in ios 5 but still allow the phone calls to ring.

I am trying to learn how to set my Iphone 4 with the ios 5 to silent but still allow the phone calls to ring aloud.  At night, I do not want to hear emails and text messages come through, but if someone calls I would like my phone to ring and wake me up.  Can this be done easily?  I do not wish to go into each notification section and turn off and back on.  Hopefully their is a quick set point that would allow all notifications to be turned off and still allow the phone itself to ring.

    hi mtbomb,
hi Can you while the Power LED is blinking hold the power down don't let it go until the light disappeared.
Technically the Yoga13 should turn off while holding down the power. at least 10 to 15 sec.
I would suggest calling Technical Support if the above steps did not resolve the issue.
It's possible that when you turn on the system, it is not going to sleep but the blinking indicates failure.
    Best regards

  • TS1630 My phone will not ring for calls or text messages. It also will not play music out loud.

My phone will not ring for messages or texts. It also will not play music outloud. I know it's not the speakers because it does make noise when I type in my password and sometimes when I am in the settings for the ringtone. It will not make the message sounds in settings. With headphones it makes noise. I don't know what to do and I've tried all the settings. Has this happened to anyone else? The silence key on the side is off. I've tried restarting it, but it does not work. Sometimes it will make noise when I am typing, but only a few times. I haven't dropped it and I have an otterbox, so I don't know what would cause it to do this...?

Everyone you are way over thinking this as did i at first. My wife had the same issue. there is i switch right above the volume button as demonstrated  on this link. its designed for lets say you into a class or meeting you can switch the phone to silent quck and easy.

    hope this helps.

  • Have an iPhone 5. Phone does not ring when calls come in and texts sent from non-iPhones are delayed by 4-5 hours before receiving.

Have an iPhone 5. Phone does not ring when calls come in and texts sent from non-iPhones are delayed by 4-5 hours before receiving.

This morning I woke up thinking that I should turn off my iPhone and then call it from a land line.  If the problem is the network then there would be a delay before I heard ringing.
I turned my iPhone off and called it.  Right away I heard my message.
I turned my iPhone back on and called it.  It rang right away!
So, did Virgin Mobile fix the problem or did turning my iPhone off fix the problem?
I don't know, but I'll take either.  I do know that Virgin Mobile said it would be four days to check the problem.  Did the problem get fixed yesterday when the four business days were up.  I do know that I've had my iPhone on for a long, long time.  Did upgrading to 6.1.1 or 6.1.2 cause the problem and turning my iPhone off reset my iPhone?
If you have delayed ringing problem and turning your iPhone off and on again resolved it, please post a note here.
P.S. I did call Virgin Mobile and its records show the investigation is still open.  I hope my points get passed on to the investigators.
P.P.S. Reading my notes, I had turned my iPhone off and on last week.  Maybe it's all the phase of the moon.
