Cordless phone problems

Yesterday I suddenly found that a cordless phone that I had used for years lost its dial tone, I could not make or receive calls. When I dialled a number I heard the usual number tones then nothing.
I tried phone without filter, without powerline, direct into the hub. No luck. I changed batteries then used a different phone, same problem. BT checked my line and no fault. At present I am having to use a corded phone (works perfectly)which is driving us crackers as we now have no answer machine and we cannot move phone to convenient locations.
I have contacte BT via chatline but after about 30 minutes of being advised to try all the remedies already tried I was offerred they conact bservice engineer at my expense. The helpline was ended at this point.
Would be exremely grateful for any help that anyone can offer.

Sounds like your base station has lost it's connection to the handset, or has failed. The menus on the handset often have a pairing setting -you could see if that's gone wrong. Do the handets have an indicator to show they see the base station?
Only other thing I've seen is if I put the base station too close to my Internet router, it kills the phone signal dead -and vice versa.

  • Static on my cordless phones

I am lacking in knowledge about my new router. I have several cordless phones in my home. Right now there is an annoying amount of static interference on the phone while in use. Is this noise caused by the router in some way? If so what is my solution if there is one? 3 of the phone are new and part of a set. I want to check here about the router before I call Panasonic about the phones.

If you have a DSL line, make sure you have installed line filters on all telephone lines, except the one that your modem uses.  If this is not the problem, then read on:
Many wireless phones use the same 2.4 GHz band that the router uses.  To see if the problem is related to the router, get on the phone, note the static, then have a friend unplug the wireless router.  Does the static instantly stop?   Wait 30 seconds, then plug the router back in and allow the router to boot up.  Did the static start again?
If the problem is related to the router, then the solution is to try to get your phone and your router to use different channels.  There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band.  The channels overlap, so try to set the router and your phone so that they are at least 5 channels apart.  Usually channels 1, 6, and 11 work best.
Some phones cannot be set to a channel.  In this case, simply try different channels on the router.
In most cases, you can find some settings that will eliminate the problem.  However sometimes the only solution is to replace the phone.  If you need to get a new phone, look for one that uses the 5+ GHz band, or the new DECT 6.0 phones that use the 1.9 GHz band.  Note that some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 GHz band, so check the specs carefully.  Many phones are now marked "Wi-Fi Friendly" or carry similar designations -- look for this when you shop.

  • Cordless phone on separate line kills AOL connection with Airport Extreme

I lose my AOL connection everytime I get a phone call. My cordless phone is a panasonic 2.4Ghz gigarange extreme connected to a separate line. How can I change settings on either Airport Extreme or the cordless phone to fix this?
    Thanks,
    [email protected]

I'm not sure if it would adequately help your problem, but you might try separating the channels of the AEBS & phone (setting the AEBS on ch. 11 and the phone on ch. 1).

  • Yet another cordless phone thread?

Hey, all-- I recently switched out an old cordless phone for a new one, and instantly began experiencing interference (I know it's the cordless phone because the airport goes from solid green to blinking amber every time I make or receive a call). I've searched the forums and I don't know what to do about it. I've tried three different new phones (two were 5.8 ghz, the third was this 6.0 stuff they're selling these days), and they've all caused the same interference problem. I've tried setting the airport's channel to everything from 1 to 11. Is there anything else I can try, or is it time for me to switch back to a lynksis router?
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I look forward to reading your suggestions!

Sure did. The wireless internet had been working fine for almost two years. It wasn't until my old phone died and I tried to replace it with the newer models that the problems began.

  • BB drops out when i use cordless phone

Bt recently upgraded my speed to 20mb  which seems variable but no complaints on that BUT now when i receieve or make a call using my cordless diguital landline my BB drops out immediately until i end the call.  I also have a CORDED phone connected and when i use that to take or make a cal there is no problem at all... I have tried new filters, even bought new cordless phones, tested things by removing top plate from main socket and conecting directly to the test socket inside. My phones are aprox 6 metres from my bt 2.0 hub and there is nothing close or near the hub or the phones. I have tried changing the channels in the hub but nothings makes any difference at all.  Stil waiting for bt to come back with an answer  other than to do all the things ive already tried.. Seems obvious to me that the new faster speed is the problem ,mabye bt hub just cant cope with it?

    Hi lennyuk,
    Welcome to the forum!
Did the tech team get back to you about this? Does the Hub power light go off when you lose connection by any chance? Are you referring to losing a wireless connection, or does the Hub actually re-boot?
    Thanks,

  • BT Broadband and cordless phone

We have been using our BT Broadband services with a BT cordless phone for a while and all is well. We had issues with devices not being able connect to Home Hub and losing connections etc. So we repalced the BT hub with a netgear router and all our problems ceased and our wifi/internet has been acceptable.
This weekend we replaced the BT cordless with two other different makes of cordless phones. Both cordless phones cause the router to disconnect from the Internet, particularly when the phones are in use. We have called the phone service support and they have said the problem is with the BT Broadband service.
Can you please advise how we get the new phones to work with BT Broadband.

Did you replace the filter as they do not last forever

  • BT Synergy 3505 cordless phone - handset isn't wor...

I have just started re-using an old BT Synergy 3505 cordless phone after nearly five years ( Yes, times are hard...)  but the phone seems to receive calls okay, at least it rings, but will not allow me to dial out to make a call.  Is this simply a case of replacing the batteries ( a special type) or is the phone simply knackered?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The phone line itself is newly installed so the problem lies with the phone I think!
    Thanks, Jackdaw

  • 2.4 ghz MBP and a 2.4 ghz cordless phone

I just got my Macbook Pro 15 inch 2.4 Ghz and found out that my 2.4 Ghz cordless phone was interfering with my Airport Extreme Base Station and MBP wireless connection. I had to go into the Airport utility and change my settings. I have a Mac Mini 1.5 GHz as my server (so to speak).
You have to change the Airport Utility settings to another channel and change the response frequency to 5 GHz to avoid competing with a 2.4 GHz cordless phone. I direct wired my Mac Mini to ethernet and all problems are solved.
    Thanks,
    Tim

While I've never had this problem, I always was under the impression that both the cordless phones and the 802.11a,b,g,n (2.4GHz) systems 'channel-hopped' automatically to avoid this. The only unavoidable major exception was something like a nearby microwave...then again I'm not an electrical engineer.

  • Cordless phones

I have heard of problems using a wireless network and cordless phones.  if this is true, what should i be looking for in a cordless phone?  i have a WRT54GX2 wireless router.
    thank you,
    papadave

I'd look for a 5 GHz cordless. But, depending on a host of variables - most especially proximity - it may well be a non-issue.

  • GE - SKYPE - Dect 6.0 Cordless phone doesn't compl...

    Hi,
Two days ago, my skype phone model "GE - SKYPE - Dect 6.0 Cordless phone" stopped to complete calls. Weirdly skype (PC version) was with the same problem that day.
The call rings but when the other side answer, both sides can't hear nothing.
Today PC version is working normally however GE phone doesn't work anymore. I have tried other land numbers, but it doesn't work, people get the phone, but we can't hear each other.
I'm wondering if this kind of cordless skype phone has a expiration date of usage, even if is an old phone I believe that Skype should give support for this products.
Coincidence or not, Skype has just announced a new GE cordless phone (GE Digital Cordless Expandable Telephone)
I'm posing here because I can't find any other place to contact skype.

    Hi jcantos,
Please be assured that your GE Phone is covered under a 12 month warranty and if the unit is deemed as defective, eBuyNow will reship them a new unit at no cost.
Before taking further steps please allow us to give you this troubleshooting to see if we can help you with your problem. Please ensure that the handset is within range of and linked to the base station. This is necessary for the telephone to charge.
When you put the handset into the charging cradle, you should see the following:
    1. Charge indicator (RED LED) will light up permanently until the handset is lifted out of the charging cradle.
    2. Handset initially displays "charging" within several seconds when the battery is low.
    3. Handset will display scrolling battery icon for charging.
Please let us know the following:
    1. Is the RED LED always off? Check if the handset charge pin really contacts to the charge cradle spring, as well as to verify if the sub-adapter connection is loose or not.
    2. Is the battery not installed well? The handset will display "no battery".  Disconnect and re-connect the battery pack into your phone.
    3. Does the handset display "charging"? Wait a few minutes.  If the handset starts to enter into stand by mode with the scrolling battery icon, the handset can be charged up.
    4. Does the battery icon on the phone indicate battery low, but when put in the charger, indicates battery is fully charged?
    5. Have you managed to successfully make a call from the handset?
    6. Is the indicator light on of your base station?
The more information you can provide us with, the better we can assist you.
If you already went over the above and are still having problems, please contact our eBuyNow's Support team by visiting ebuynow.info/en/contact/  (add the http:// as this forum does not allow hyperlinks)  and one of our agents will gladly assist you.

  • Airport Express and Cordless Phones

I have tried a radio shack and a panasonic 5.8 GHz cordless phones and both do not work in the same room as my airport. Any thoughts on brands or other options?

    This is an interesting discovery.
Airport runs on 2.4 GHz not 5.8 GHz, so there should be no problems between the two.
Does the Airport work when they are not in the room?

  • SPA3102 & WIP310 "Super" Cordless Phone

I am trying to set up the above hardware to take advantage of the wireless network in my warehouse.  What I am looking for is Incoming PSTN calls go to the WIP310 and when I want to make a call from the WIP310, it goes to the PSTN port of the SPA3102.  So far, no luck at all.  If anyone can help a noob, I can provide whatever screen shots or addressing info that might help plus my undying gratitude.  I'm lost.
    ~Blake

Thanks for your reply.  NO I haven’t plugged in any adapter. Is that necessary? Is this required for sure? I am not sure. For the PSTN line coming in my SPA3102 i use a normal UK based cable which has RJ11 on one end (which i connect to the SPA3102) and other side is BT plug (which I connect on the wall socket).  On back of the cordless phone it’s a RJ11 Female port and same for the SPA 3102. SO I use the default cable which comes in the box to connect the cordless phone and the SPA3102.  Also, for my corded phone it works fine. It’s just the cordless phone.  But do you think it will make any difference using a 4 plug adapter in between the cordless phone and the SPA3102? I can try if you think it makes a difference. Did you have a similar problem or heard any one else having similar problem?
     Thanks

  • Broadband + phone problem!

For a few days my broadband speed has dramatically slowed (to the extent that I get the 'unable to connect with server' message on lots of large downloads) and coincided with a 'whooshing' sound on my landline.
I have done all the checks they advise and discovered the phone line is clear until my BT Home Hub Broadband connects.
I have tried a corded phone etc and the same scenario! I have had no problems at all for the 2yrs I have had BT.
    Any ideas welcome.....?

welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
Have you tried replacing the filter with a new one
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • GE 31591 Skype Cordless Phone not accepting accoun...

I just received my GE 31591 skype cordless phone and it will not accept my skype account password--a message just reads "failed". I have tried everything that the manual suggests. I reset the phone back to factory settings and tried again but the failed message reappeared.  I also went into my Skype account and changed my password and the phone would not accept this password either. If I can't get connected ,then the phone is absolutely useless. Please reply with a solution to this problem. Thanks

My phone suddenly stopped connecting to skype and when I go to Settings > Network, it starts "Retrieving information" and then it shows a "Failed!" error message, so it is impossible to see the IP address. I have tried to reset the settings but the same "Failed!" message appears.
My 31591 got into that mode once. I cured it either by power cycling the base station or by dicsonnecting the phone's battery for 30 seconds or so. I know I tried both, and now I don't remember which one fixed it.
