Core 2 Duo Processors in a Core Duo MacBook?
Is there any way I can replace my Core Duo processor with a Core 2 Duo processor?
PowerMac G4 Mac OS X (10.4) I'm a Mac. Mac user since Macintosh 512K.
To expand upon Jim's correct advice, the CPU is soldered to the logic board, making it impractical and next to impossible to swap CPUs.
In any case, the benefits are not as great as anyone would have you believe, and likely not enough to justify the expense even if it was possible.

Vista is old so I can't remember exactly but it's either right click on the graph or in the view drop down to change it -

Which should I go for? Is retina all together a better machine and a good enough update, or should i go for a 2012 model which is almost maxed out like 15.4?

because the RAM in the Retina models is non-upgradeable, I’d say that RAM is most important on the Retina models.
All of the models above will perform basic work tasks well; I haven’t tried making music on my Mac, so I don’t know what the bottleneck there might be. If it’s CPU-intensive, then the 15-inch quad-core model might be the best choice, despite its slower CPU speed. You can upgrade the RAM on the non-Retina models if RAM turns out to be a bottleneck. -
G580 Core i5 processor show 2 cores after motherboard replacement
I got the motherboard on my G580 - Core i5 3rd generation replaced yesterday, everything seems to be working perfectly fine except that my Core i5 CPU is now showing 2x cores instead of 4x.

your G580's i5-3210M is actually a dual core with Hyper threading enabled, which means that the CPU will have 4 threads aka it can process 4 things at one time, undercover you have 2 physical cores, so this is completely normal nothing to worry about

backbeatIn order to keep up with the core 2 duo processor enabled laptops, apple must sooner or later have the new processors in either the MB lineup or the MBP's...however, if you want to fully take advantage of the new core 2 duo processors, might as well wait 'til next spring..when they come out with the new logic boards for the core 2 duo's...the current core 2 duo's share the same pin lay-out with the core duo's, so they can be used in the same logic boards,....(the people who buy the MB's with the core 2 duo processors are gonna regret buying it if they buy it before spring....cuz of this..)
wait 'til next spring so you'll be fully happy with your MB...or , like me, you can just wait for your order right now and be satisfied with it.....
when you do wait 'til spring, they'll probably have another new technological advancement, so you'll wanna wait for that.....sooner or later....we'll get 3D computer screens!!!!~~~
my point is, you must evaluate what you'll be using your MB for...if the current MB's can fully service you, don't wait... -

routers that are plugged into a 550VA CyberPower surge protector. I often receive these insufficient USB power for devices messages a dozen times even when I do not have devices like camera, Ipad, Ipod, and Tascam digital audio recorder plugged in. Is there a way to troubleshoot these USB routers or should I consider that one of the routers may be defective and replace them?

Snow Leopard is the latest version your macbook 1,1 will run. Oitlook is part of the Microsoft Office suite, if you want outlook you'll need to also purchase Office. If you can get by with Apple's mail program there are free alternatives to Office like Libre Office or Open Office. -

You can upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6 with no problems as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM. Any program that runs under 10.5 should run under10.6. And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications

Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.

Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications. -

Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.

How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update. While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
E. If updating:
Download and install update(s)
Use Software Update, or
Download standalone updater(s). -

iOS 5 is for iDevices, not OS X. Your iDevice would only require 10.5.8 or later. If you have a Mac with a Core Duo processor then you cannot install Lion but you can install Snow Leopard provided you have at least 1 GB of RAM installed.

Apple states that (of the MBP lines) it has to be from Mid/Late 2007 or later. yours seems to be right on the line.
