Core Center Question ?

hello guys,
i wanted to know about corecell feature and and core center i am using latest version now and my CPU fan is usually at 4440 RPM even with gaming but my system temperature increases from 43-47 usually when gaming ? is this ok and my CPU temperature is 51C because its Prescott and i cannot do anything about it ? i wanted to know does corecell protect our computer from electric shock, overheating without Core Center or it would not without core center becasue the first time after installing windows xp service pack 1 (clean installation) i hear loud noise usually the CPU fan is on full speed but as soon as i installed the latest version of Core Center it adjusts it automatically and quietly and should i change my CPU priority for Core Center as maximum does that do any thing and i wanted to know i have DDR 400 Mhz but in bios it says DDR 333 because i have 533 FSB CPU is that right ? well does that mean i wasted my money on this or does that mean an upgrade to FSB 800 will make that better.

well, your MSI P4 mobo is your friend, because it shuts the system down, when the CPU is about to overheat. and the function "spread spectrum" helps preventing all static issues. but you should disable it, when you overclock. at least its recommended that way in the manual.
your temps seem fine to me, and they look even better because you have a Prescott.
dont change any settings in corecenter. everything is just fine there. i think it reports the temps a little higher than they actually are, but thats just my two cents. but 4400RPM is really fast! my CPU fan isnt reported to be faster than 2800 at most. still enough for my CPU.
no dude, everything is fine with your system. DDR400 memory goes in sync with FSB800 CPUs, such as the northy c versions.

  • Question, NB fan in Core Center

    Hi,
I have this question. In Core Center I have N/A in NB TEMP and 5443rpm in NB Fan Speed. Is this normal or there is something wrong?
I tried to find it in other topics but didnt find this answer.
    Thanx

    Hi,
    its a K8N Neo2.
MSI should have tested this, meaning, I think its wrong somewhere in my system.
Anyone recognize this problem? I have looked in bios and dont really know all features in there, but with the users guide I have excluded some options.

  • Newbie question on Core Center

When i bring my FSB up in Core Center manually
(not using the auto button) the vcore doesn't change and
my system runs unstable is there a way i can bring it up
or is core center supposed to bring the vcore voltage up automatically?

When you use corecenter to overclock, The auto overclock feature will turn up your FSB, but it wont touch the VCORE. you have to adjust that in the bios.Or you can do it yourself on corecenter. When I tried to overclock using core center, it would overclock on the desktop but it would not be overclocked in the bios. I would reccomend that you use A program called clockgen in conjunction with speed fan. clock gen will allow you to overclock from your desktop and even set the PCI/AGP settings independantly of the FSB. Speed fan wil allow you to adjust you fans to get maximum airflow and it will allow you to keep an eye on temps as well. get rid of corecenter

  • Core Center Problems & General Questions added

On boot up after installing core center on my PC, I get warning messages telling me that core center doesnt have the correct drivers installed, and that core center is not compatable with my motherboard.
I just bought a MSI K8N Neo4-F ... any suggestions?  This doesn't seem to be a common problem and I can't get any answers anywhere :(

After the proper bios adjustments and correct settings i can use corecenter to reach the maximium overclocking setting for this tool.
In bios i do have to set vcore at 1.45 and HT at 4x , disable agressive timings.
This way will lead to a fsb of 222, for my memory also without changing the timings leading to a 6600 score in sandra for memory.
My cpu will clock 2666 then.
Also i have to overvolt through corecenter for cpu and memory, both maxed out giving 2.85 for mem and 1.58 for vcore total.
Now i'm not running this since i don't need the extra heat and my games don't require it either, yet.
And i can run my cpu higher also, but that's not the issue.
It's a way to see with which settings you get more performance without messing up the bios.
Finding your way through it you can then set it in bios and forget about corecenter.
See it as a first step, because after that you can adjust memory timings to get more fsb over the 200mhz. thus finding a balanced setting that will give the most speed, because setting timings too loose will not always result in faster performance even if you can clock the mem higher.
Finally, you can also use clockgen to find your limits. This tool let me set the multiplier also to max out the cpu without compromising the memory. Also keep in mind that different cpu cores will give different results, you can't compare settings with different hardware after all.The venice core is a nice cpu for adjusting fsb settings which is for me a simple multiplier, also the memory divider on my board let me set a very high fsb if needed.Again, this is now a simple multiplier,it means nothing if i have it set at 230 or 340,i only have to bring down the cpu multiplier then to stay in spec and use the proper mem divider.

  • Voltage Question in Core Center/Bios

Just the other day, core center and bios started dislaying my voltages differently. This was right when my temps seemed to drastically increase as well.
My voltages before were always stable, especially the 12v line, it was always 12.12v, now its reading at a pretty constant 11.76-11.82v, the 3.3v line is reading at 3.31-3.46v, and the 5v line is reading at 4.97-5.05v.
I hooked up a multimeter to the 12v rail, and it read 12.12 constant.. I didnt hook it up to the powercord running into the mobo, but it seems like they will all read the same.
Could a dying power supply contribute to a huge heat increasement on the cpu and system temp?.. Im talking a good 15c increase.

ditch CoreCenter, it's buggy! Don't use it as it's buggy until it could screw up the overclocking settings and kill your system. MSI just didn't do a good job on Corecenter!

  • Cool-n-quit/core-center

in CnQ my cpu fan gives me an alarm above 3000 rpm's. Whatever I change in the setup, this won't stop. The fan speed alarm in set to 10.000
Temperature is just 36 degr for CPU and 37 for system
    Any thoughts?

Hi everyone. As you can see I'm kind of a newb and I have some related questions. First off some background. I've done hardware installs, harddrive clean formats and swaps, etc. I was planning on building my own computer, but order one from cyberpowerinc.com. I haven't done a profile yet but will after this post so by the time you read this my system should be listed below. Anyway, in the BIOS I had cool and quiet disabled because in the manual it says to check serial numbers of chips before running it, and I didn't want to mess with pulling the heat sink , etc. to check my serial number. This morning while investigating a noise issue (high, varying frequency, buzz) I noticed in Core Center that it was related to CPU fan RPM (low RPM). I then found the program called speedfan, which allowed me to varify this, as Core Center wasn't real accurate. Using speed fan I was able to run the fan at 100% and got no buzzing. Below 70-80% I did though. I then found this thread and realized Core Center could do this (by clicking on Core Center) in another thread. So is the Cool and Quiet mode in Core Center the same as in the BIOS, because I thought if I disabled in the BIOS it would be disable, come to find out Core Center was running it (and causing the bad noise when the fan cycled to low RPM), it wasn't however slowing the CPU speed.
So basically, I hate the buzz at low fan speed, can I just run my fan at max through Core Center? Is there another program that will allow me to run a min fan speed, but cycle say from 100% to 80%? Is it even worth that cycling if only down to 80%? Should I just set it to max or 7/8 manually? Are the BIOS and Core Center Cool and Quiet settings related?
Any info you think will be useful to me, please let me have it. Thanks.

  • Alarm going off in core center

I have an alarm going off in core center Theres a red arrow next to wherer it says 12 v. then in the white box it says 10.95 v  any one know what it means and what I could do about it I don't know whats normal for the readings I get in core center. My pc has been locking up and certian games wont load unless it's really cool in the room.

Good questions! Some folks have acceptable readings with CoreCenter, by verifying them with the Hardware Monitor (in BIOS). I compared them with my SpeedFan program, and as far as temps go..I use a laser temp gun to check CPU, case, and video card temps. Voltages on the PSU can be verified with a voltmeter of course. The specifications on your NB fan should be in your manual. Or you can check out this thread at Anandtech:

  • Core Center displays in fahrenheit?

Ok, this might be a dumb question but I can't find the answer.  I have a K8N Neo Platinum and A64 3200+ newcastle.
For some reason, my Core Center started reporting temps in Fahrenheit instead of Celcius.  Degrees F is good if I want to know the weather, but I'm much more familiar with C when it comes to computer temps.  How would I go about changing it back to C? Plus, for whatever reason, it seemed more accurate then (after updating the BIOS) than it does now.

Yeah...acts like a toggle switch when you right click...then pick!

  • Core Center Hmmmm

i currently have a neo plat 250  a643000 using the core center set to auto clock the damm thing took itself to 2.540 gigs.   I had to stop it ,i could no longer take the stress,  Question should i let the core find the maxium oc and if so will it stop itself before i have a meltdown . Are there any safe gaurds set in place   I was watching my temps they were 42c and holding under a no load condition . Right now really not sure what to do ,let it have its way and find out how hot this cpu is or just be a tad bit consersative let hold it at 2.40 that was the best i could achieve by manual oc

Question to Wonkanoby:  My 3.3v has always read 3.51v in CoreCenter and that's outside of the plus or minus 5% range.  It has always played well with my borderline (at least by this forum's standards) RAM.  Should I be concerned?  As my system has been very stable for about four months, I don't think so.  I think I asked this once before, but I don't remember any definitive response.  I have an identical PSU to yours, just a little less powerful.

  • Overclocking with Core Center

I am a total noob to this overclocking stuff, but trying to learn more.
I have been using Core Control to oc my mobo. Currently I have an AMD 64 2800 that is running at FSB 245 and a cpu 2205 mhz.
I have not adjusted any voltages, do I need to? What is everyones opionion of Core Center? I have verified the cpu speed with MBM and CPU-Z and they confirm what Core Center says.
Any thoughs on this am I pushing the FSB up too high?
    System specs:
    MSI K8N Neo Platinum
    1 gig (2 512's) Crucial PC3200 ram
    AMD Athlon 64 2800 Newcastle
Nvidia 6800 OC By BFG tech
    480 W Antec PS

    Well, for a nood that's a nice OC. In order to determine if you need more voltage you need to check for stability. Get a free download of Prime95 and run the torture test on the second setting where it says lots of heat. Speaking of heat, that's more inportant than voltage. You want to check out what temps your are generating under fyll load(ie the Prime torture test. If your using stock cooling you can only go so high before heat is a problem. Adding voltage adds more heat as well. How hot is too hot? That's a question that everyone has their own answer for. I really don't like my system running much over 50c, so low 50's is where I back off. I'm sure it can go well into the fifties without gettig cooked, but I'm pretty cautious. Good luck.javascript:checklength(document.bbform);

  • Core Center Pro

Hmmmm I actually have a couple of questions on this. Currently according to Web Site this is latest core center pro for K8T Master 2 Far V1.01.03, 2003/12/03.
On a machine i have built for a customer his CPU2 temp is 70 on mine its 42.
His rpms on cpu 2 is less than 3k, I tried to set this higher but software keeps putting it auto mode and wont let me set it higher. My thought is there has to be a setting in registry, I unistalled it and reinstalled it. No luck.
In bios, there is a setting for the fan tolerance and says 1-5, is 5 higher tolerance meaning that only if cpu temp is at extreme that it runs fan higher?
Next question is 70 acceptable? what is the max temp i should like be concerend about?

I think 70 is bit high for continuous use.  The CPU protection will automatically shut down your sytem if temp reaches 90 but that's to avoid immediate, catastophic damage.
Mine runs a around 40C.  I don't see how the one you built is getting so hot unless the case a poor design or you have some mondo video card blowing heat onto your CPU.
The only time my temps where anywhere near that high is when I tried using an internal USB media card reader  .  Needless to stay, the reader stays unplugged until I'm ready to use it.

  • K8t-neofis2r Core center qestion

Question about this vcore reading I never really noticed this tell now
the Vcore shows at 1.550 and is bolded in red? this is using core center
    but what is vcore?

Don't trust core-center too much, it's more a guessing tool then actual very accurate
I use it only to see major changes if I think there are, not to monitor or anything.

  • Can you make core center automatically close after being called on startup?

Can you make core center automatically close after being called on startup so it can set cpu fan speed to a slower fixed speed then exit?
If core center really cant do such a simple task then can speedfan or another program?

Quote from: bassmadrigal on 13-July-05, 07:42:36
Why don't you want them running. Speedfan has a very small footprint.
Just seems unnecesary seeming as it does its task as soon as it runs and its changes then stay applied. Speed fan is probably better but core center takes 10mb.

You dont have to have it running to set a user specified fan rpm .
Once it's set it is stored in the corecell/cmos chip on the motherboard .(until a cmos reset) .
So to answer your question .
There is no need to have it autostarted at each boot ...
Thats how i have used it .
Only reason to have it running is with MSI's "CnQ" control of the fan , varies with the load of the processor
Thats strange for me the speed resets to default as soon as I restart my pc (about when the bios engages which is however tangibly after the graphics card fan revves up to its full speed). Depending on the temperature of the proccessor it goes to 3300rpm (less than 42c) or 4500rpm (too loud for ~45c IMO and MSIs "cool&quiet" option seems to agree, it doesn't even set it as high as 3300rpm)

  • 875P Core Center FSB 200?

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but Core Center doesn't exactly come with a help file. I have the 875P mobo, 1 gig Kingston PC3200 CL3 in slots 1 & 3, Intel 2.8 cpu with 800 mhz fsb. My question is that when I open Core Center and pull out the left tab, it says the FSB is running at 200 mhz. Can this be right, or am I just missing something. I do remember that the bios recognized the memory as DDR400, so everything should be ok? Could I have something set up incorrectly?

    You're running 800 (200 times 4 :D

  • Core Center CD?

I don't know if I am simply missing something or someone forgot to pack a CD into my MOBO box but I don't seem to have Core Center whatsoever.   Can someone tell me if their MOBO came with the Core Center CD or I need to enable something somehow?   The only CD that I received was the one that contains the MOBO drivers and such.  By the way I have an MSI NEO K8T FIS2R MOBO purchased about 2 weeks ago.  Also since I have someone attention, is there a way to disable my SATA controllers so the MOBO no longer attempts to detect them at start-up, its kinda annoying for it to tell me that I dont have any drives installed and please dont tell me to buy some SATA drives.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lobo2401

Well I did just that and downloaded core center from MSI but interestingly enough I do not have core center on my driver CD at all.  I even browsed the cd content via windows explorer and nothing called core center is on my CD.  But I got it and have been playing with it.  Thank you.
Now how about my other question regarding the SATA device detection that my board wants to do at start up?  How can I quicken my boot up process by elimenating this "detection"?
    Thanks
