Core dump failed, errno=4
I'm looking into some dumps from Orcale and found one that mdb gets the following error:
core file may be corrupt
I found the following message on /var/adm/messages.
[ID 457380 kern.notice] NOTICE: core_log: f90webm[6192] core dump failed, errno=4
What is an error no 4 during a core dump?

Are you compiling with 1.4? I have noticed ALOT of posts about 1.4 and I have yet to have a problem. The only thing I am doing differently is compiling with 1.3.x still, but running with the 1.4 JVM.
I would try that.

SomeshI ran into this exact same problem (on Solaris, JVM 1.4.1). Although I don't know the exact cause, I can tell you what I did to fix it..
Of course, this happens when you try to load a native library (a .so in this case). I ldd'd that .so, and found that it in turn was linked to two other libraries in my control, and some other OS libraries.
When I statically linked either one of my libraries, such that only one of the libraries under my control was still linked dynamically, leaving the OS libaries untouched, then the problem went away. Note that it didn't matter which one I linked statically- as long as one (or both) were static there was no problem.
My guess was that there were some sort of cyclic dependencies with these libraries, but right now I'm happy enough that it works, so I'm not going to try and pursue this further.. -
Delegate Admin install fails with core dump
I have been attempting to install the iPlanet Delegated Adminstrator with the Messaging Server 5.2 release. I am using Directory Server 5.1 service pack 1 on Solaris 8.
Installation of DS 5.1 goes fine.
Installation of MS 5.2 goes fine.
Installation of the web server 6.0 wtih sp4 goes fine
Every time I attempt to install DA, I get a "Segmentation Fault - core dumped" and absolutely no other information.Since this is not a normal thing, I only have two suggestions left:
1. Download the latest version if iDA:

2. Download and apply p1 for iMS (now a year old, but the latest publically available version):

3. Install the latest Solaris patch cluster.

Ldd: Spin.so: execution failed due to signal 11 (core dumped)
I try to run ldd command on my shared Library Spin.so and ldd gives core dump on this.
i have built the library with -KPIC option, so there is no chance of problem from Position independent code.
same shared Library works fine on all the sunos machines(5.7, 5.8,5.9,5.10) except the one we have problem on (SUN 5.8).
Is this related to some library building problem or something related to patch of 5.8

Core dump installing 8.1.7 on RH 6.2
The installation process fails trying to link the oracle executable (core dump). Have anybody suffered the same problem? any walkaround? 8.1.6 is running without problems in the same box.

I have just installed 8.1.5 on RH6.2 over the last weekend and it works quite beautifully. Untar the jre bundle into /usr/local and make a softlink to /usr/local/jre.
Next, cd to to /mount_point/install/linux and run ./runInst.sh from there. Running runInstaller will not work.

After uploading files to XMLDB with ftp, some files are empty. When processing with xml functions such as xdburitype(...).getclob() causes Oracle core dumps. How can I identify the files as empty before accessing them from the database? The resource_view does not track file size...

Weblogic crash without a trace (core dump, hs_err_pid, stracktrace, logs)
We have a weblogic 9 cluster where a node crash/shutdown with no trace. Sometimes its node 2 and sometimes node 3, but not at the same time.
We can't find any core dump, hs_err_pid or any stracktrace in the logs or std out/err.
Specifying where hs_err files goes with -XX:ErrorFile should not be necessary as it should write in current directory or if not possible due to permissions etc, in the OS tmp dir.
Are there any Weblogic specific JVM or system property we can specify to force some kind of trace when the process just seem to crash?
We see this in the log from time to time, perhaps its related:

It always seems to happen on the kpucHTDelete call. I have searched the net for kpucHTDelete but found nothing.

You can enable tracing using NET 8 Assistant, and from there go to the tracing tab.
Select the SUPPORT trace level from the following pull down menu located in the Client Information section:

SUPPORT: Trace information applicable for customer support staff.

Click on the "unique File Trace Name" checkbox if you want a unique identifier appended to each new trace file created.
Save your configuration.
You can check the SQLNET.ORA file found in the net80/admin directory path to verify that tracing is enabled. There is an entry called TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT=SUPPORT located in that file and entries that indicate the log file location and name that you specified in the Oracle Net8 Assistant.

Throws Core Dump for OCISessionBegin() on Linux for Oracle Client v10.2.0.2

The OCI method, OCISessionBegin() is throwing an core dump on 10g client in Linux on C++, but the same code works fine for 8i and 9i client. Core dumps for 10g Client. 10g tnsnames.ora file is same as of 9i. I just debeggued with the core and says failing in OCISessionBegin() method. I would like to know is there any problem with Oracle Client v10.2.0.2? or how does i can solve the issue? appriciate a quick help in this regard.

I'm having issues with the OCILogon2() API. The system is Solaris 8
running Oracle 9.0.1; the application is written in C. In normal
operation, the application functions with no issues: queries can be
made, etc, so this isn't an issue of getting it up and running; it
already works, but now a bug has been revealed.
The original thing which pointed out the problem is the fact that a
firewall in front of the Oracle database was timing out and dropping
the client connection after 60-minutes of inactivity. (Note that
the firewall problem is now a non-issue, but the error it uncovered
is a serious one, so I'd like to still find a solution to that in
case some other situation causes a similar problem.)
Eventually, the client would receive the ORA-03113 "end-of-file on
communication channel" error when calling OCILogon2() if attempting
to do a login/query after a period of inactivity because the firewall
had dropped the connection. The application is multi-threaded and is
using Connection Pooling, so if another thread attempted to login after
this error was received, the OCILogon2() API would core dump after the
initial OCILogon2() call had returned the error code.
Here is a stack trace of the exact errors (I wrote a smaller test
application which is stripped down and not multi-threaded and I
can duplicate this error at will):

What I'm curious about is why the OCILogon2() API does not return
an error code of some sorts whenever the connection is obviously
unavailable.
I'm not extremely knowledgeable about the OCI APIs, so is there
perhaps a way to verify the connection is active before attempting
a login call? (Whether that be OCILogon2() or OCIServerAttach(), etc.)
A 'ping' of sorts just to be sure? (Not that this would solve the
problem completely as the connection could be severed between the
ping and the login attempt.)
For other reasons, I already have a 'flag' which can be tripped to
tell the threads to not attempt Oracle queries (namely if the
environment initialization upfront failed). I could trip this flag upon
receiving an Oracle error like this, but that will not be a complete
solution to the problem due to timing issues -- another thread could be
attempting to login at the same time another thread is doing so
and before the flag can be set or checked, thus the second attempt is
going to cause a core dump, no exceptions. Or if all of the connection
pool links are currently busy, a thread could check the flag and see
that it is clear before attempting to login, so OCILogon2() is called
and the thread is now waiting for a connection to open in the pool;
the connection dies, one of the other threads throws ORA-03113
before leaving the pool and setting the flag, but now this other
"waiting" thread (who already checked the flag before trying to login)
grabs the open pool spot and immediately tries to complete its
OCILogon2() call. Core dump.
The ideal solution is, obviously, for the API to not core dump and
simply return a proper error code.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate them.
If there is a workaround for this, such as being able to detect ahead
of time that the connection is down and then trying to reconnect, I'd
be interested in hearing about ways to do that as well.What if you don't have a support contract with Oracle, can you still contact them in a case like this (where I'm not asking someone to show me how to do something, but instead where it is clearly an issue with their product)?

Sql*loader core dump on unicode data
I get a core dump when trying to load multibyte data with sqlloader.
ASCII data loads fine. The database was created with character set =
UTF8 and national character set = UTF8. Sqlloader CHARACTERSET is
UTF8.
The target table does NOT have nchar, nclob, or nvarchar2 columns. Is this an issue?

Target: Oracle8.1.5 on RedHat Linux6.x
Data source: SQLServer extract on NT.

If you telnet to the device, look under the root (/local1/) director for the following directories...
/core_dir/
/crash/
In one of them will be a file that was created when a process failed and restarted. The file name will have a process name and a time stamp as part of it. The Cisco TAC has tools that can decode the actual cause of the crash and see if it's something that is known or not. I would take a full sysreport of the box, collect the crash file via FTP and attach those to a TAC case for them to review. They should be able to let you know what caused it and if there is any reason to be concerned along with any workarounds/related DDTS/code fixes that are out there for resolution.
FYI: The alarm will persist until you remove the crash file from the above directories. I usually "delfile" the file once I've FTPed it off.

Running FF 2.0.0.8 with Sun Secure Global Desktop - no issues. Upgraded to V3.6.2, then 3.6.3. Both upgrades failed. Browser randomly crashes at different times, different pages. FF works if directly ssh'ing into application sever. When accessing FF after loging in using SGD, I get random crashes. I have a Solaris core dump generated by FF. Is there anyone that can read/diagnos the core dump?

The issue - firefox is crashing when attempting to talk to the sound server which is not active. All activity within the window works fine, except ff hangs the second you move the mouse in to the top level menu.
We disabled the audio under the SGD configuration and that ficed the issue.
