Core dump installing 8.1.7 on RH 6.2
The installation process fails trying to link the oracle executable (core dump). Have anybody suffered the same problem? any walkaround? 8.1.6 is running without problems in the same box.
Thanks,
Osvaldo.

Does oracle 815 install on Redhat 6.2?
When I try I get nothing but jre errors using both jre v5 glibc and jre v5 libc5.
Does anyone know how or do I downgrade to RH 6.1?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
I have just installed 8.1.5 on RH6.2 over the last weekend and it works quite beautifully. Untar the jre bundle into /usr/local and make a softlink to /usr/local/jre.
Next, cd to to /mount_point/install/linux and run ./runInst.sh from there. Running runInstaller will not work.
Hope that helps.

Delegate Admin install fails with core dump
I have been attempting to install the iPlanet Delegated Adminstrator with the Messaging Server 5.2 release. I am using Directory Server 5.1 service pack 1 on Solaris 8.
Installation of DS 5.1 goes fine.
Installation of MS 5.2 goes fine.
Installation of the web server 6.0 wtih sp4 goes fine
Every time I attempt to install DA, I get a "Segmentation Fault - core dumped" and absolutely no other information.Since this is not a normal thing, I only have two suggestions left:
1. Download the latest version if iDA:
http://wwws.sun.com/software/download/products/3ed69a6c.html
2. Download and apply p1 for iMS (now a year old, but the latest publically available version):
http://wwws.sun.com/software/download/products/3e3afb91.html
3. Install the latest Solaris patch cluster.
If the above fail, then:
4. Open up a tech support ticket. -

Report Server: RTF format on Solaris gives Core Dump
We have Report Server 6.0.8.11.2 on Solaris.
We are running reports thru URL and it is working fine for PDF and HTML. When we specify the desformat as RTF it gives Segmentation Fault Core dumped.
We have tried using rwcli60 thru command line and it gives the same error, while PDF and HTML format is fine.
Is there a patchset for Solaris for the same or are we missing on some parameter?
- TarunHi I am a beginner to solaris and am trying to install Sun ONE Application Server on the virtual machine which runs Solaris10 on X86. When I try to launch the executable bin file, i get a message saying Killed.
It seems like it is not initiating the executable. ANy comments would be appreciated
thanks

Hi,
We are continously getting dumps on our BW Central instance server after we did an Oracle patch upgrade from 9.2.0.6 to 9.2.0.8.
Following is our system environment
SAP Release.............. "640"
Application server....... "abci"
Operating system......... "SunOS"
Release.................. "5.10"
Hardware type............ "sun4v"
Database server.......... "abdb"
Database type............ "ORACLE"
Database name............ "ABP"
Database owner........... "SAPABP"
SAP kernel............... "640"
Database version......... "OCI_920 "
Patch level.............. "175"
Following below is the Core Dump that is generated for any process chains that we schedule on our BW server
Runtime Errors SYSTEM_CORE_DUMPED
Date and Time 14.04.2008 09:26:17
ShrtText
Process terminated by signal 11.
What happened?
The current ABAP program had to be terminated because the
ABAP processor detected an internal system error.
The current ABAP program "SAPMSSY2" had to be terminated because the ABAP
processor discovered an invalid system state.
What can you do?
Make a note of the actions and input which caused the error.
To resolve the problem, contact your SAP system administrator.
You can use transaction ST22 (ABAP Dump Analysis) to view and administer
termination messages, especially those beyond their normal deletion
date.
Error analysis
An SAP System process was terminated by an operating system signal.
Possible reasons for this are:
1. Internal SAP System error.
2. Process was terminated externally (by the system administrator).
Last error logged in SAP kernel
Component............ "Taskhandler"
Place................ "SAP-Server awci_ABP_00 on host awci (wp 5)"
Version.............. 1
Error code........... 11
Error text........... "ThSigHandler: signal"
Description.......... " "
System call.......... " "
Module............... "thxxhead.c"
Line................. 9780
How to correct the error
The SAP System work directory (e.g. /usr/sap/c11/D00/work ) often
contains a file called 'core'.
Save this file under another name.
If you cannot solve the problem yourself and you wish to send
an error message to SAP, include the following documents:
1. A printout of the problem description (short dump)
To obtain this, select in the current display "System->List->
Save->Local File (unconverted)".
2. A suitable printout of the system log
To obtain this, call the system log through transaction SM21.
Limit the time interval to 10 minutes before and 5 minutes
after the short dump. In the display, then select the function
"System->List->Save->Local File (unconverted)".
3. If the programs are your own programs or modified SAP programs,
supply the source code.
To do this, select the Editor function "Further Utilities->
Upload/Download->Download".
4. Details regarding the conditions under which the error occurred
or which actions and input led to the error.
Kindly help.
Regards
Sachin
Edited by: Sachin N on Apr 14, 2008 12:26 PMNo. If the environment would be wrong the system wouldn´t start up.
Core dumps are in 99 % of the cases program errors (in the SAP kernel or in an interface (libdbora*)), misaligend accesses of data etc.
If you encounter such an error have a look in the C-Stack. If you can´t see where the error is happening opening an OSS call. Most of those errors are fixed by installing the latest patches for the kernel and the database interface.

If anyone else is struggling with this installation, heres a workaround that
Got things going for me.
Redhat 6.0
Oracle 8.1.5
Webdb 2.2
The database was up and working fine. Not as many problems as earlier versions but there was still much grief getting it to work. Save yourself some time, dont charge ahead like I did, read the installation notes.
The installation of Webdb didnt go so well though. Sqlplus would core dump with segmentation fault when a connection to the local instance was attempted. I tried many things, install webdb to 8.1.5 , apply glibc patch, apply 8.0.5 patches to webdb install none of this worked. The workaround I finally found was to use the 8.1.5 listener and the old formatting of a listener.ora and tnsnames.ora file. (i.e. like 7.3.x). Sqlplus would then connect via tcp. Installation still had another problem I could never get past the sys password confirmation. I could connect from the command line with sqlplus s /nolog @passwd.sql sys/mypass@mytnsname but the installer just wouldnt work. An edit of the installation_dir ->webdb-2.2/owa40/owa40.vrf file did the trick. Hard code a location to a dummy pass.sys file.
After many frustrating hours 160 or so - I think I finally have a working database and a working webdb web site. Hope this info might help others.
Craig MacPherson
nullo Did you end up with 8.1.5 and WebDB2.2 in different Oracle_homes?
Yes - product/8.1.5
- product/8.0.5
o What do you mean that you used the 8.1.5 listener? My database is 8.1.5 so the tnslistener I'm using is from the 8.1.5 install - not the 8.0.5 version.
o Can you send a sample of the tnsnames.ora file that you used?
Sure - make sure you set TNS_ADMIN

Linux 6.1/Oracle 8.1.5 Pro C compilation core dumps
Linux installation did not place stdarg.h or stddef.h in the /usr/include directory for some reaon. I located different copies in other directories and have created symobolic links to them all in the end. BUT all result in the following error when I attempt to make sample1.pc in $ORACLE_HOME/precomp/demo/proc. Has anyone got any ideas how I can fix this problem.
Yours hopefully Kev

nullThanks for your input. But having investiagted further I have made progress.
On one of the FAQ docs listed throughout the Linux Forum I found an example of what should be in the pcscfg.cfg file. Once this was in place I then had, /usr/bin/ld cannot find -laio (or the file /usr/lib/libaio.a). To get a clean(ish) compile, I created a symbolic link from libc.a to libaio.a which is crude but was effective. I had a working Pro C exe.
I understand that the second patch solves the libaio.a prob as well as others. But a colleague has installed it and had to regress it, due to more damaging problems he listed but I cannot recall at this time.
Thanks again. -
MDM installation on AIX 5.3 core dumps
Hi all,
We installed MDM 5.5 SP4 on AIX 5.3 ML 5 (and the latest patches were applied last week-end).
The MDM Server, Import and Syndication daemons are started.
Database is Oracle 10.2 (corresponding Oracle client is used), installed on the same server.
MDM client software is in sync with the server level.
Since the installation, we get core dumps of the mds daemon (even when trying to perform the most basic operations). Consider it to be completely unusable for testing anything. You look at it, it breaks. Sorry, but that is how it is.
MDM Patches and hotfixes to the patches have been applied up to the latest level The problem is reported at SAP Support and they have core dumps, logfiles, trace files for studying. So far, the only feedback we got was to install MDM on its own server (it is a trial installation on a server where other applications are running - though I can hardly see that as a cause for core dumps).
My questions :
- are we unique in running MDM on this software paltform ?
- are others (if they exist experiencing the same problems on AIX 5.3 ?
To be honest : for the moment we are thinking about reinstalling on a Windows server.
Thanks in advance for any feedback,
Frank Van OverloopHello,
we have finally made some progress on this issue.
Basically, we suffered from a combination of :
- wrong usage of the product
- probably shaky exception handling in the AIX version
The cause was found by SAP MDM support after we reconstructed the problem while using a special debug-version of the mds executable. This produced a usable dump.
--- extract from the SAP reply -
The core dump shows a crash in recalculating the family tree after the
import. Family tree is being used only to create printed catalogs (which require the publisher and an additional license).
1) Do you have any value in the categories table?
2) Does the MDM server crash if you cancel the automatic family tree
recalculation in the import map, and answer "no" in the dialog box which asks to recalculate the family tree?
3) Do you intend to create a printed catalog?
If the answer to any of the questions is "no", then this asserts that
the recalculation of the family tree should not take place at all. In
this case the family table could/should be deleted. And this should not
reoccur.
end extract -
After we deleted this family table, the tests are running stable.
It's a pity that the program does not 'die' in a more elegant way or gives some understandable indication on what is going wrong.
It also looks like this exception is handled better on the Windows implementation. The same 'functional mistake' was made there and this produced no dumps at all. Could be a porting issue from one platform to another.

Hi,
let me know which solution option i wish to pursue:
1. The fix for unpublished Bug 5160122 "TEXT QUERY DEADLOCK WITH GATHER_STATS_JOB, THEN COREDUMP ORA-7445 [DREXUMCX]" is included in

_malloc_unlocked core dump
I am working on Solaris 7 (newest patches installed) using Sun Workshop 6. My multithreaded application runs well for a while but eventually it core dumps.
t@4 (l@1) terminated by signal SEGV (no mapping at the fault address)
The point in my code where it core dumps differs but the top of the stack always ends in
malloc(0x5fa, 0x0, 0xfea0b5c0, 0xfea0b540, 0x31, 0xff26db58)

Has anyone an idea?

Oracle Client 10.1.0.2.0 Core Dumps
I have a strange problem where I intermittently receive Oracle client core dumps. I am running version 6 of the WebSphere Message Broker, which communicates with a remote Oracle database. I am using DataDirect to connect to the database and am running the following Oracle versions:
Client: 10.1.0.2.0
Database: 10.1.0.5.0 64 bit
The following is an excerpt from the broker’s .odbc.ini file:
[OTDAWMB]
Driver=/opt/IBM/mqsi/6.0/merant/lib/UKor820.so
Description=DataDirect 5.0 Oracle
EnableDescribeParam=1
OptimizePrepare=1
ServerName=DTHU
WorkArounds=536870912
ProcedureRetResults=1
ColumnSizeAsCharacter=1
Here’s the problem:
We submit batch loads where 50,000 messages are put on a queue. Each message processed by the broker involves multiple database inquiries and insert statements. On average we process 10 messages / second which means we’re constantly hitting the database for over an hour. On occasion, we receive a core dump from the broker which points to an Oracle library. The following is an excerpt from the broker’s abend file:

This can happen at any time and can happen multiple times throughout the load. IBM says it’s a problem with the Oracle client (ILLEGAL INSTRUCTION) and there’s nothing that can be done from their end.
Has anyone run across something similar? Could this be network related? From dump message, looks like your client are calling whole banch of 32bit library. Are your application server also 64 bit ? Can you try install a 64bit client?
It's also a good idea to patch up your client a bit.
You should also consider submit a SR on metalink. -

One way to get a substantial boost in reliability is to switch
to the latest appropriate Oracle thin driver. But then you can suffer performance losses.Actually, the latest oracle thin drivers are very fast. The 10g
driver in particular. Well, we are on 9i here and we have lots of CLOB and BLOB
operations. Understood. The latest should work. (How comfortable does that make you ;) )
It is a sad choice we used to have to make between
faster-but-buggy homicidal old OCI code (wherein a bug in one
module can cause a segfault in an innocent unrelated module's
execution, and bring down a whole JVM) and the reliability of
Java. Fortunately, the future is at hand. The future is at hand? I do believe you are starting to sound a
bit like an evangelist. :-)Yep. Back in '96 when we wrote and marketed all the first JDBC drivers
for MS SQLServer, Oracle, Informix and Sybase, we did it solely
so enable our application server to be able to do real work. We were all
absolutely sure the driver market would dry up in 6 months as all the
DBMS vendors made excellent free type-4 drivers. We were over-optimistic.
Sybase's driver still requires you to install non-standard tables and
procedures in the DBMS. Oracle drivers are sloutching toward sufficiency,
but their first GA driver had a hard-wired value of READ_UNCOMMITTED
for getTransactionIsolation, and if you tried setTransactionIsolation
of either READ_COMMITTED or SERIALIZABLE, the driver would throw an
exception! We actually had a weblogic workaround to intercept this
jdbc call and send the "ALTER SESSION " to do what the customer wanted!
At the same time we had a major struggle to get Oracle to admit that
in spite of their documentation, OCI was not threadsafe (killing our
OCI-based driver in weblogic applications) until 7.1.4 on solaris
and NT, and 8.0.5 on other platforms. Did you know they had separate
codelines for OCI on each platform? For a while each platform's OCI
had a different hard-wired limit of the number of simultaneous connections
on client could have? For a while that limited what our application server
could do. OCI was written for simple teller-like client applications.
The new thin drivers take on more of the possible client-side
processing, and can do RAC failover etc. JoeOh well. I for one am a bit skeptical that Oracle is going to
fix java driver bugs before OCI bugs and I don't have any reason
to commit to any "platform independent" solution like java's thin
driver. We are completely based on Oracle here and we have a
J2EE solution for the app just cause we had to choose something.
If thin is better, than we will go with that. The last highest-level talks I had with Oracle folks they indicated that
they wanted everyone to go thin. OCI was a headache for them. Their
OCI code was undocumented and all the original experts had left the company.
That was in 2000 or so, so it is likely better now. They may well have
invested a lot of reverse-documentation by now.
One of the benefits of Java is the reliability. I think you'll
ultimately be happier with the thin. We do want you successful.

Core dump on solaris 8/7 making JNI call.
Hi,
I am running solaris 8 and solaris 7 with Java 1.3.1. I have required solaris patches installed on the machine for java 1.3.1.
From a C program I am making some JNI calls and when I run the program it core dumps at the very first JNI call. C program that make JNI calls are in a .so file.
Same C code with Java 1.3.1 is running fine on window 2000, AIX 5.1, RedHat Advanced Server 2.1 and SuSE Enterprise Linux 7.
Any help will be greatly appriciated.
ThanksHiya,
Any resolution to this post , we have a native JNI call on a Websphere server running on Solaris 8 .. and same thing happening .. random core dump on the box ..
No warning , no explanation
Thanks so much for your help
