Core Duo + Kensington PilotMouse Bluetooth weirdness
I just moved up from my old 800mHz iMac to a Core Duo mini last week. I wanted a multi-button bluetooth mouse, so I have the Apple bluetooth keyboard, and the Kensington PilotMouse Bluetooth.
The combination work fine together. Tracking is usually smooth, however the fact that my machine is under the desk makes for tracking issues on occassion when my leg gets in the way.
My problem is a bit more serious though. I pair the mouse up, it works. If the mac goes to sleep however, things get ugly. I can't wake the computer. The ethernet interface still responds to pings from my other machine, but neither keyboard nor mouse can wake it. Bluetooth Prefs are set to allow bluetooth devices to wake the machine, so this isn't the issue. Plugging in a USB keyboard doesn't appear to help at this point either, I have to power cycle the machine. (Note: this morning I turned on ssh, so I'll see if I can shell in next time this happens.) If I manually sleep the computer, things are fine, but if it sleeps on its own, I get the above behavior, and the fan is running full blast (while asleep???)
Even more annoying...the system doesn't pick up the bluetooth mouse after a reboot, and on occassion wake from sleep. After a reboot, I wait. and wait. Eventually the watchdog timer for bluetooth devices picks up and starts searching for my mouse. I have to flip the mouse over, press the button that makes the mouse discoverable, and about a minute later I have my mouse back. Changes startup time from being under a minute to almost 5 minutes. I can't imagine that this is normal behavior for a bluetooth mouse.
I'm not a computer novice. I service macs, Linux, FreeBSD, and even Windows if forced to, and have been doing so for over 10 years. I've looked through the mouse's manual, looked on Kensington's website, went through all of the Mac's bluetooth prefs and dialogues, and searched the site and disucssions, all came up blank. The one thing that really worries me though, is the Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse pane. The keyboard's name and battery strength show up, but the mouse stays blank, despite the mouse working and showing up in the bluetooth menu bar. I suspect this is simply an issue of no 3rd-party driver being available to communicate battery strength, but you would figure at least the device's name field would populate.
Is this all normal? I'm starting to wonder if the system shouldn't go back. I've already had to hard reboot this mini more in the last week than I did the entire lifespan of my iMac, which would consistently have an uptime measured in months...
After a day or so of struggling, I've found solutions to 2/3 of the issues:
1. The front wire on the mainboard was loose. This has been suggested other places on the forums. If your fan is blowing constantly, this is what's wrong. Open up, seat or re-seat the cable plugged to the mainboard below the optical drive to the right.
2. To properly wake your computer from sleep and keep the mouse, press down both mouse buttons and hold for ~5 seconds. The machine will wake and remember the mouse.
I still don't have any idea of how to reboot and not lose mouse.

Difficulty easily connecting a bluetooth Kensington PilotMouse
I have a bluetooth Kensington PilotMouse that I connect to a MacBook Pro laptop. The only way that I have found to make a successful connection is to turn off the bluetooth on the laptop, put the mouse in discover mode, then re-enable the bluetooth on the laptop. It will not find the mouse otherwise. Also won't recover the connection after the laptop comes out of sleep mode.
Anybody figured out a better way to connect the mouse?
Thanks.
MacBook Pro 15" Mac OS X (10.4.7)Got the same problem here. Have to re-pair the mouse after every restart or sleep... I found, that it do not appear as bluetooth-mouse in the bluetooth-preference-pane...
Any ideas?

Here's an odd one... three times tonight, my 20" iMac has crashed and rebooted in the same situation.
I'll have maybe three or four apps open at once, Mail, Camino, Safari, and iTunes. If I play music from iTunes, and then open Photo Booth, my iMac will restart about 5 seconds after the iSight turns on. There's no "please restart your computer" screen in different languages - it just restarts.
When OS X boots back up, the iSight green light is still lit, and it stays on until you open and close Photo Booth again. The other strange thing that happens is that a Finder window showing my hard drive and the network icon will appear, but in the aqua (not brushed metal) Finder window view, even though I did not have that window open prior to the crash.
Has anyone experienced this kind of crash?

I tried what you did (without Camino, I don't know what that is), had no problems.

Mac Mini Intel 512MB 1.83MHz Intel Core Duo totally useless after update
After performing an update of a Mac Mini 1.83MHz Intel Core Duo with 512MB of RAM, the system no longer functions.
The system will boot up and display the desktop, but all of the accessories in the upper-right corner (Date, Volume Control, Eject, etc.) never show up. All it does up there is display solid white, then it doesn't display anything (just displays the menu bar regular background color).
QuickTime automatically launches on startup, and it appears to stay up until I click on QuickTime and select "Preferences", then it closes.
The only other application that launches is iTunes. I can't get ANYTHING else to launch, including Safari, Terminal and Console. I can't even get "About this Macintosh" to come up. It's lucky I set this particular system up some time ago to accept SSH connections, otherwise I don't know how I would be able to see what's going on. I can SSH into the system from another system (another Mini as it turns out). It's with this that I can see what's going on.
I looked at "top" and I keep seeing "ReportCrash" starting up, running for a few seconds, then terminating and then relaunching with another process ID. Evidently something is crashing and it's trying to report the crash, but it can't complete the process.
I looked at the Software Update Logs (located at /Library/Logs), and here is what it says it updated last night:
2008-04-24 23:16:38 -0700: Installed "QuickTime" (7.4.5)
2008-04-24 23:19:09 -0700: Installed "iTunes" (7.6.2)
2008-04-24 23:19:26 -0700: Installed "Front Row Update" (2.1.3)
2008-04-24 23:20:23 -0700: Installed "Safari" (3.1.1)
I go to /var/log/system.log (normally visible from Console) and here is the last 200 lines of the log:

This process and Spotlight are two processes that seem to be crashing over and over.
It seems to me that the update last night pushed the memory profile of the "base" operating system (which would seem to include the 4 items updated last night) above the threshold of what is really required for successful operation of the system. In other words the system seems to be running out of memory and essential processes are unable to run, let along other programs.
Has anyone else run into this problem? I looked and I don't see anyone else who has posted with this problem. Then again, if it's their only system, and their system is as disabled as this system is, they wouldn't be able to get online to report it anyway. And since ReportCrash keeps...well...crashing, Apple wouldn't know about it.
I feel my only alternative is to backup the files off of the system (which I am doing now), then downgrade back to OS 10.4 (the system did originally come with 10.4). I just hope I have no impediments to doing so. If I can't downgrade, I suppose I could do a clean 10.5 install and then don't do any updates, but that's no good either. My only other alternative is to upgrade the RAM, I guess.
Bottom line is this system is truly hosed and totally unusable in it's current state.
Anybody have any better alternatives?
Thanks,
Robert...Welcome to the Apple boards:
I suggest an erase and install and use your backup for any important files you have.
Did you perform a disk check/repair and permissions repair and a PRAM zap before updating? While not required, they are usually necessary to avoid issues.
There are so many reasons for a bad install, that it is impossible to list them all.
Out-of-date software, drivers, etc, haxies, and other software can cause problems.
My three updates were without incident, so it is possible for a perfect update, but unless you supply us with details about your previous system, programs, apps, drivers, etc., it is not possible to figure out what happened.
Again, whenever installing an update to an OS, a clone or other full backup is absolutely necessary, as reading the posts on this board indicate. -
Can I recover mini hard drive? 1.66 core duo - fatal error w/ DU, AHT - OK
I had an internal hard drive issue after an interupted system update on 12/25 (two things were downloading, and I think it ran out of disk space). The mini (1.66 core due, 1 GB, superdrive, 10.4.?) would not restart, and had folder w/ a question mark. I could not find the drive w/ DU on the startup disk.
I was able to access the drive via firewire from my old G4 tower, and recovered all the data (using Prosoft Engineering's Data Rescue product - $99). The disk utility program on the G4 (OS 10.2.8) found no issues on the failed drive, and after I partitioned it and erased it with DU, the AHT on the mini install disk also found no issues.
The disk utility on the install disk says the drive has reported a "fatal hardware error to disk utility". I erased the drive via firewire on the G4, and was able to add 5 GB of photos to it and retrieve them w/ no issues - so the drive seems fine. Please help, I am very frustrated w/ Mac right now. I ordered a new mini (2.0 core duo from J&R, even w/ new mini announcement pending) to get moving again fast, but that one came on Jan 2nd with a faulty DVI port and has to be returned. I am now stuck on my old G4 only.
There were some useful posts I found - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1528568&tstart=4
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8340380
But they don't fit exactly. On the format post, I don't have the "options" button available when I erase the failed HD (to fill it with all zeros). I've tried erasing it, but when I put the install disks in, it won't allow me to install to it.
Question: Is there any other way I might be able to install the OS onto my drive?
My fallback option is to buy a firewire external HD and just use that (maybe I can use my internal one as extra space, just not as a boot disk?
Thanks,
Chrissooooo no one has any suggestions?

Track ball mouse buttons and Logitech driver not fully working on Core Duo
I have a Ligitech cordless optical TrackMan ball bluetooth ball mouse which works for me. Unfortunately, I could not map the buttons properly (the back button kept doing an F9 function rather than 'back' in Safari). The driver in System Preferences produced a warning message something like 'this won't work on a core duo imac'. Logitech did not seem to have any updates. I hunted around some alternative software and just wanted to recommend www.usboverdrive.com to anyone who has the same problem. All buttons can be easily mapped - you press the button to identify which one it is and then can change what it does.
2GHz iMacCD 20" 2Gb RAM Mac OS X (10.4.6)Funny, not on their site!
But! You can get it here:

Again, I don't have a trackball, but give this a shot. It is the "Control Center" software, and from their site the trackball is the save version (1.62) as the mouse/keyboard.
Good luck!

Logic Pro X compatibility with mbox 2 mini and 2009 core duo macbook
I currently have Pro Tools LE 8.0.3 and an Mbox2 Mini, both of which amazingly still work on Mountain Lion 10.8.4. I'm interested in learning Logic and am trying to confirm compatitility with the Mbox2 Mini on a first generation core duo Aluminum Macbook (2.4 Ghz) running 4gb of RAM. The system requirements just say 10.8.4 or later with a 64 bit processor. The Macbook runs fine, and I primarily just record stereo piano tracks, so it's not like I'm going to have 16 tracks running on it. Anyone using an Mbox2 Mini, and any issues with the hardware?
It's not an external device's compatibility with LPX that matters...
It's your external hardware's compatibility with whatever OS X version you are using to run LPX in.... that is important.
Im guessing you upgraded OS X about the same time you switched to LPX?
So....
Make sure you have installed the drivers and software from this page....
http://www.apogeedigital.com/support/quartet#tab-id-1
Failing that, contact Apogee support for further assistance
http://www.apogeedigital.com/support/contact-support
Note: Why is it showing Duet and not Quartet briefly? Are you sure you installed the correct drivers or did you, at one time have a Duet?
Additional: You might want to try this.. though I doubt it will fix things... but this can cure all kinds of weird issues...
Delete both the main plist and the CS file...
Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
Quit Logic Pro
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
Restart the computer.
Note: if you cannot find either of these files you didn't follow the instructions exactly as described -
MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo vs. MacBook Pro Core Duo
I currently have a MacBook Pro 2.0Ghz Intel Core Duo. Is it worth it to upgrade to the most recent MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo? What will I gain by spending the money? Does the battery get as hot on the Core 2 Duo as it does on the Core Duo or was that issue resolved?
Any insight and/or advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks!I'm sitting here making a list of the helpful Mac software to download for my new 2.4 LED MBP Core 2 Duo (2 GB memory) with the Santa Rosa chipset, and looking through the Applications folder of my 1.83 MBP Core Duo (2 GB memory).
I've actually been doing side-by-side comparisons throughout the day, and here are my admittedly subjective impressions. Please understand that I'm not doing benchmarking---you will soon find lots of places giving you those numbers, and they don't mean much to me anyway. I use my computers in my job and they are tools, albeit fascinating, but a tool nonetheless. My impressions are just that--what does it "feel" like to me. So, if you want benchmarks with numbers, I apologize.
1. Everyday work-type use (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Safari, e-mail): About equal in terms of speed and ability to manipulate large Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. The new MBP "feels" slightly faster but not that "wow, this is fast" that I experienced when going from my old Dell laptop to the MBP Core Duo. What I have experienced is a new appreciation for my old Core Duo--it has no trouble keeping up with the new one.
2. Video and photo editing: Again, the new MBP feels slightly faster, and timing the rendering of a short video clip was faster on the new one compared with the old one, but not by much. In fact not enough of a difference to retire the old one for less demanding tasks---it will remain one of my main computers.
3. Heat: Sometimes it feels like my old MBP could cook eggs on it after doing some video editing or after a long DVD session. The new one seems to run a lot cooler---a lot cooler, although I haven't had a real chance to stress it, but comparing the same tasks side-by-side for transferring and running through my photo collection, the difference in heat was very noticeable. The old one was hot, and the new one actually felt cool to the touch (a little warm, but compared to my old one, it felt cool). I suspect I will continue to see that the new one runs a lot cooler.
4. Battery: In running the battery down to empty today, I got 4 hours and 40 minutes on the new one and 3 hours 10 minutes on the old one---quite a difference. I expect more once I calibrate the battery on the new one. I should say that when I run on battery, I shut down Bluetooth and Airport if I don't need them in order to save on power.
I'll do some more comparing in the next few days, just to see if there are major differences. Right now, I like the LED screen but it looks the same as my old one---maybe I just can't tell the difference.
All in all, the new one is fast and cool with a longer battery life, whereas the old one is fast and hot with a shorter battery life.
I would recommend the new MBP to anyone considering a new computer. Would I recommend that people with the old Core Duo upgrade? Not really---the old one really holds its own against the new MBP--not that much difference in speed. I don't think the difference in operating temp and longer battery life is that big a deal nor enough to justify an upgrade yet. I did it because I wanted to, not because I thought I needed to. And as my day has proved to me, the speed difference perceptually is pretty slight--they are both fast and a pleasure to work on.
I have a new appreciation for my old workhorse, the 1.83 MBP Core Duo--it's still a great computer. I almost gave it to my wife, but not after today. -
Dualdisc cd side won't play on my mac mini intel core duo w Superdrive
Shakira Fijacion Oral DualDisc "CD" side will insert and then automatically reject from my Mac Mini - Intel Core Duo. The DVD side plays fine. Unfortunately iTunes not smart enough to work with DVD side. There is a query in IPOD forum about Springsteen DualDisc also failing on intel mini mac that is listed at "answered" but for the life of me, I can't tell if you are supposed to just not buy DualDisc or else take the Mac Mini back for a new drive.
mac mini (intel core duo) Mac OS X (10.4.7) 2GB RAMMac Mini Intel Core Duo's did not ship until 2006 which seems plenty of time for Apple to announce 'we have a problem' and what their recommended solution.
Why would they do that ? I mean, they don't have a problem. The inventors of DualDisc made a type of disc that won't play in all players, and Apple can't really do anything about it. Superdrives are not made by Apple, it's just Apple's name for a DVD burner; the Superdrives that are found in various Macs come from several different manufacturers, and although Apple probably ensures that the Superdrive and the Mac work well together, they won't test whether it works with each type of disc (usually, the manufacturer will).
However, that is probably limited to redbook/standards-compliant discs; since a DualDisc's CD side doesn't comply with any standard other than "DualDisc", and because it is not considered important enough to be officially supported by most (if not all) manufacturers, they probably won't test them since they're bound to get mixed results anyway.
Similarly I don't remember seeing a "strictly redbook only" disclaimer on any of the media available from Apple describing the capabilities of its Superdrive when I was making my mac mini buying decision.
You didn't see one because it is not required. Asking that Apple (or any other company) warns you that their players won't play non-redbook CDs is a bit like asking that they tell you everything your optical drive won't play. Apple claims that their Superdrives will read CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R DL, which aren't only a bunch of weird-looking letters, but also correspond to a standard. When you see a CD logo on a drive, it means that it will play redbook-compliant CDs. Your Dell player simply does more that what it is supposedly capable of, but because one (or many) optical drives will play DualDisc doesn't mean that they all have to. -
Dual PowerMac G4 or Core Duo Intel Mac Mini?
Right now I have a Intel Core Duo Mac mini. I have the following setup and specs on my desk. The mini contains the Duo 1.66GHz processor, 2GB DDR SDRam, 80GB hard drive, OS X & Windows XP, AirPort +Bluetooth, and so on. My problem is that I have always been a tower lover and that is why I purchased the Mac mini because I purchased a 20.1 widescreen HD Dell LCD with DVI-D, VGA, Component, and so on imputs. I wanted this for my Xbox 360 also.
Here is where it starts to get complicated. I also have four, yes four, external hard drives sitting on my desk, and I still need more hard disc space. I have a 250GB, 120GB, 250GB, and 60GB. Plus remember I have a 80GB in the mini. I am also looking into another 250GB or 500GB external hard drive.
Now before I had the mini, I had the original iMac G5 which had a 1.6GHz PowerPC G5 processor in it, 160GB hard drive, and 1.5GB of ram. It was showing age and I needed more speed and a bigger display so I ditched it for the Intel Mac mini.
In addition I am pulling 12 USB ports out the back of my Mac mini. I have a few hubs fulling almost all the ports. I need these for the external hard drives. If I go internal, I can probably live with 6-8 USB 2.0 ports. I will need at least 1 firewire or an iSight camera or my Sony HD handycam, but USB is more needed. In addition I see some PowerMac G4's came with Firewire 800? Is this something I would need, I currently however have no use for it.
But now I really see the need of a PowerMac G4 Quicksilver tower. I was looking into the Dual 1.42GHz PowerPC G4 models, and really don't know which is faster. I would obviously love the expandability of the PCI cards, and independed graphics memory, but am I willing to transition back to PowerPC after moving over the Intel?
I don't know so I am posting it all here in the PowerMac G4 section of the Apple forums. I really hope I can get some good advice here. By the way, I am very Apple and technology frantic, so I know the ins and outs of a tower and stuff like that. So a non Apple warrenty would probably not be a problem.
But one problem is, how much could I get for my Mini which cost me $1099 and how much would a decent G4 tower cost me? I have an extra Nvideo GeForce 4 MX 5400 Ultra with 64MB of ram and DVD-D/ VGA outputs, so that isn't a problem. Plus to replace the AirPort Extreme built into the mini, I have a AirLink 101 Super G (108MBPS) Wireless PCI card. Bluetooth can be added with a simple USB dongle.
UPDATE: Forgot the mention I already have a DVD Burner compatible with OS X and 3.5inch bays. I would like a Dual Layer, but if its a tower, I can upgrade that anytime.
UPDATE x2: I would also like to mention that I use Gigabit Ethernet so any PowerMac model I choose would have to acomidate that such as the Intel Mac mini does.
THANKS EVERYONE!!!!
Mac Mini 1.67GHz Intel Core Duo, 2GB ram, 1.5TB storage, OS X v.10.4.6, 30GB iPo Mac OS X (10.4.6)I would like one day to have a tower with 4-8 HD drives
(120-250GB each) and HD DVD and Blue-Ray burners.
Good luck Even the Dell towers we have at work have space for 3 HDs, and thats only of you give up one of the CD bays.
Honestly, I unless a blueray player ships in the CPU, I would get a PS3. 1/2 the cost of a standalone blu-ray player, and a game system too
Expected street prices from Sony and Toshiba web sites:
standalone Sony blueray player: 995.
Toshiba HD-DVD: 599
Sony PS3 w/ bluray: 499/599
Is the reason the PowerPC G4 can't handle HD DVD is
processor speed or what? Cause there is always
processor upgrade cards up to 1.8GHz and 2.0GHz Dual.
Thanks.
One of the Apple support pages says you must have a G5...
does not give the background behind it.
On a G4, the OS will not allow HDDVD playback (as HD is defined by FinalCutHD) via the DVD player, BUT it will play back HD video clips (like QT trailers)
On my 867, 720i clips played back w/o a problem, but 1080 would freeze for 20 seconds at a time, (while audio continued normally)
on my Dual 1.42, I have no problems with 1080.
I hesitate to consider or recommend processor upgrade cards b/c for some, the price approaches the cost of a new machine w/o the benefits of faster busses, etc, and, right on the side of the OS X box, it says processor upgrade cards not supported. I would hate to upgrade the OS to find it refused to support my machine. -
Imac 2Ghz Intel Core Duo to Philips Flat Screen TV
Appears I know even less about iMAc than I thought! Learn something new everyday!!
Hi, I have used the forums to search for info in the past and they are a great source of info.
I am trying to look for ways to link my Imac Intel Core Duo (with OSX 10.5.8 and GB Ram + a Dvi output for video) (which is in a cupboard which I record music) to my TV (which is in a far more comfortable environment!)
As the cupboard is next to the living room my bluetooth keyboard and mouse will be usuable on the mac but I want to see the display on the TV!
Is this possible?
The TV is a Philips 32PFL5522D(user manual http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/3/32pfl5522d05/32pfl5522d_05_dfueng.pdf)
Cabling it would be OK but messy. Wireless would be perfect!
Dont know how to do either though!
Any hints, tips or suggestions would be gratefully received
Cheers

Hi guys, I am in a process of buying a new computer... here are the two choices I am considering.
iMac G5
$1,499.00
Specifications
20-inch widescreen LCD
2.1GHz PowerPC G5
512MB memory (533MHz DDR2 SDRAM)
250GB Serial ATA hard drive
Slot-load 8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Radeon X600 XT with 128MB DDR video memory
what I like
20 inch screen
big 250G hard drive
Price (1,699.00 for a Core duo w/ a 20in is over my budget)
iMac 1.83Ghz Intel Core Duo
$1,299.00
17-inch widescreen LCD with 1440x900 resolution
1.83GHz Intel Core Duo with 2MB shared L2 cache
512MB (single SO-DIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
160GB Serial ATA hard drive
Slot-load 8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Radeon X1600 graphics with 128MB GDDR3 memory
Built-in AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0
what I like
Best Price for an iMac
newer technology - Airport Extreme, Graphics Card etc.
Now the problem
I can't decide! Screen Size and HD space are important to me... but new technology at a cheaper price is VERY tempting!
Question is.... is Intel Core Duo THAT superior to PowerPC?
Please iMac gurus ....help me out!
Windows XPwell, how critical and powerful is your rig? i only use my imac g4 (soon to be the G5) for ideas and such, also to trade logic files back and forth w/ a friend of mine. live I don't use, nor do i have experience with that app. my buddy, however, has dual g4's and records live music, drums, guitars, etc and really needs that added power, so ask yourself, how much will you be running. if going for the whole live band thing, i would go with the power mac. currently the system has been reliable and proven and fast enough to handle most of your tasks. the intel is fast, but still has kinks and bugs in it, and not all apps, especially 3rd party are univeral yet. that my friend, will cause your music to suffer, and you do not want that.
the m-audio oxygen 8 is what i use, in addition to the tascam us-122. neither are unversal yet, and like i said i couldn't wait for them to be released, it was interuppting my productivity. and i didn't want to go with the firewire 410 (an excellent unit by the way) because it meant more money for me to spend! -
Mac Mini core duo upgraded with Atheros Airport Extreme
An update for those interested - In a posting Nov 12, 2010,
https://discussions.apple.com/message/12574450
Al Cellier said : Earlier this year I upgraded my mid-2006 Mac Mini (Core Duo) with an (Macbook Original Wireless WIFI Card 802.11n AR5BXB72 - Atheros) Airport Extreme Card to get N-WiFi. That works fine in Leopard 10.5.8; but in 10.6.4 & 10.6.5, I can't get connected to my router. Is a new driver needed for 10.6 ? Network Utility / Info Tab / Network Interface (en1) reports "Model: Wireless Network Adapter," as (802.11a/b/g/n). As an aside, the Bluetooth seems much flakier now than with the original card.
The update, as of July 21, 2011 has that now that I have installed 3 antennas onto the WiFi card instead of just one, and now the Mini works great in Snow Leopard 10.6.8 !!!
We are getting full 300Mbps status on the n protocol.
No added drivers or tweaking, just the antennas and the system update (system update alone was not enough).
Mac user since 1984, and an optimist ...I purchased 2 extra antennas (I found the seller on ebay; they are small circuit boards with attached cable and tiny connector). They sit just outside the box at each rear corner, and are taped to the housing; the cables were fed into the unit thru the ventilation slots, carefully routed to the wifi board where they snap into place. Unfortunately I didn't take photos inside; I could photograph the antennas sticking out, if you want.

I have a Mac mini OS X 10.4.11, intel core duo processor (not core 2 duo), with 512 mb and 1.83 GHz processor. I only have version 9.0.3 of iTunes because it hasn't let me go higher, which I believe is because of the operating system. I want to get my purchased music from the Mac mini to a different computer (that has the latest version of iTunes) and also my iPad. The Mac mini does not meet the requirements listed to simply upgrade to snow leopard or lion. As far as I can tell. Forgive me if I am lacking here...this is new to me. What can I do to get the music transferred. I have invested alot of money over the past few years on all this music that I should be able to transfer. Thank you in advance if you can help me.
If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

Macbook1,1 Intel Core Duo: Support for 3gig RAM??
Hi All,
I've recently upgraded my rather standard MacBook from 80gig HD 1gig RAM (2x512) to a 320gig HD and 2gig RAM (1 x 2gig card). I really wanted to insert a further 1 gig of ram, thus having a 2gig and 1gig in each slot.
However, the computer doesn't seem to boot with 3gig installed.
System Profiler tells me:
Macbook1,1
Intel Core Duo
2 Ghz
1 processor
2 cores
2MB L2 Cache
2GB memory
667mhz Bus speed
Boot ROM version: MB11.0061.803
SMC version 1.4f12
I keep reading conflicting reports all over the support site, with some saying macbooks can hold a max of 2gig ram and other saying 3gig is supportable.
I fear that my model may be too old to run 3gig? Is there a firmware upgrade or similar that might allow me to expand to 3gig?
Any tips, advice, feedback or even jeers are welcome!
Cheers,

A Core Duo MacBook supports a maximum of 2GB RAM. A Core 2 Duo MacBook supports 3GB or more depending on the model.

It is too old.
