Core Duo mini - Audio Issue

Hi All,
I get random droputs/clicks in audio. Happens when playing iTunes, recording, etc. Seems to be concurrent with Internet access (AirPort and Ethernet) and opening closing apps. Happens when booted from internal or FireWire drive.
Anyone else experiencing this?

  • Intel Mac Mini Core Duo Midi USB Issues

Is anyone else having issues getting Midi devices to work with the Intel Mac Mini's? I have several Midi devices that are't working correctly event though I have installed the newest drivers.
Currently I am having issues with a M-Audio Midisport 2x2 USB adapter. I loaded the newest drivers (ver 3.2.2) which are supposed to be universal binary to support the Intel Macs. When I connect the Midisport 2x2 to the Mac Mini I can not get it to receive Midi Output from the Mac.
When I look in the Midi control pannel I can see that the Midisport has been installed, but all options to select it are greyed out. Also when I try to select it as the input or output there is NO option to select the Midisport from the pull down menu. It only shows the "Built-in Midi" as and option.
The Midisport works fine on other non-Intel Macs. Please advise.
    Thanks!

It seems like the mini is doing alright so far. I think maybe the full erase solved whatever issue it was having. I also got my Core Duo Mini yesterday in the mail and it's performing like a champ. Definitely a nice machine.
I'll close my question for now, since the Core Solo Mini seems alright. But, as a warning don't get on Front Row's bad side. I tried force quitting it because it was taking too long to load the videos folder and then tried shutting down from a terminal and ended up having to turn the machine off.

  • Core Duo Mini Freezing

I was in the middle of installing Adobe CS2 on my Core Duo mini, and it froze. I restarted the computer, and it gave me about 2 seconds of action and then it froze again.
I've successfully ejected the disk, but it still freezes everytime I start the computer. I've restarted the computer about ten times, all with the same reslut. The couple seconds of working, then the freezing.

Try booting by doing a Safe Mode Boot…
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393
This should hopefuly allow your Mac mini to boot. What you then need to do is remove andthing from Adobe that is in the…
    /Library/StartupItems
… folder. This should hopefuly stop the freezing under a normal boot. Please be aware that you need to update to Quicktime 7.1.1 to prevent any freezing issues with the Adobe CS2 products, especially Version Cue, which I strongly suggest you do not even install.

  • Intel VT support on Core Duo Mini?

I intend to purchase a Core Duo mini a little while later. But I want to make sure if the Core Duo mini has the Inter VT support enabled or not. I have read the forum on Parallels (the maker of Parallels Workstation) and it seems that at least some Core Duo minis have this support disabled when manufactured.
I am interested in running Parallels Workstation or the possible VMware for Mac or similar products that will take advantage of Intel's VT technology on the Core Duo.

    According to this website
    http://appleintelfaq.com/#10.1
some earlier Mac mini models did not have VT enabled.
Though it now appears that the do now.
    http://forum.parallels.com/post718-22.html
I have also read that the Mac mini firmware update enables VT support.
When I get a chance I will check out my own Mac mini and let you know.

  • Core Duo Mini

    Hi there.
I'm finally going to take the plunge, bin my PC and get a Mac Mini.
I'd like to get one with the Core DUo, but I already have a LaCie external dual Layer DVD burner, so I don't really need the Superdrive that comes with the Core Duo Mini.
Is it possible to get a core Duo with the Combo drive?
    Cheers
    Cerdo

    Hi!
It seems not possible, also if you try to order it at the AS as BTO is not possible to "downgrade" the optical drive (while is it possible to upgrade the one in the Core Solo model).
I was in your same situation and I sold my LaCie d2 16x DL, the superdrive in the mini is not so fast but is quiet and works good; moreover, having it all in one small case makes your life simpler and better looking...
    Bye!

  • Core Duo Mini compatability with certain drivers

My Mini with the core duo can't recognize the Epson print driver that is supposed to be tailored for it. I downloaded it from Epson's site but just can't get the print utility to recognize it. I also found that when launching the downloaded Digidesign Core Audio driver tailored for the Intel Macs that the system crashes... everytime.
Anybody have any thoughts? Would sure appreciate them.

  • Advice on migrating from G5 to Intel Core Duo Mini

I'm running 10.5.8 on a G5 and wanting to migrate to a new Intel Core Duo Mac Mini running Snow Leopard.  I would like to migrate all of my files and settings and applications to the new machine, but am looking for advice about potential pitfalls.  I've read in some of the other discussions about problems with software from my G5 overwriting the Intel versions of the software on the newer machine, but could not glean enough from those to fully understand what the issues are.  My principal software components that I don't want to have to reinstall are things like CS3, Office 2008, and older versions of things like iMovie, etc.  I have a Time Machine backup that I could also migrate from, but don't know if that will alleviate potential problems.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Before you jump the bandwagon, make sure to have read this user tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295
Sometimes the Migration/Setup Assistant doesn't work between PowerPC and Intel Macs. The CoreDuo Mac Mini is not much of an improvement over a G5 except for the native Windows virtualization, and support for Snow Leopard, and Intel Mac only applications, and built-in Front Row support.  The Core2Duo Mac Mini on the other hand supports Lion,  and generally is faster than a G5 except for the few applications that are G5 optimized or can take advantage of the higher RAM upgrade possibilities than most of the Mac Minis, and the G5 supports Classic applications where the Mac Mini Intel versions do not.  So before getting the Mac Mini make sure all the applications or at least some can take advantage of the Mac Minis own advantages.

  • Core duo mini crashing occasionally - how to find the cause?

My core duo Mac mini crashes itself every now and then. The screen goes blank for a couple of seconds and the machine reboots with no explanation. This happens about three or four times a month. It has happened in the middle of the night with no active load in the machine, and also while me using it in the front of console. No warnings, no strange behaviour before the crash, just a sudden blank screen and reboot with no extra messages.
I'm looking for the cause but I can't find any hardware related errors from system.log, dmesg or console.log. Is there some other log file that I should consult to see whether the crashes are hardware or software related?
Any debug programs I should run to get more specific info to be collected just before the next crash? Crash dumps and a debugger?
I ran Mac diagnostics and some 3rd party memory test programs with no errors.

It sounds like your power cord may not be firmly
inserted. Check to make sure nothing is fraying or
loose about it before starting up the machine.
Checked. Also, the Mac Mini has been in two locations with the same symptoms; all the cords have been replugged and rechecked.
In addition, since it has happened several times,
have you checked to make sure the directory is fine
    with Disk Utility's Verify Disk?
Yes, no problems there. Luckily the Disk Utility has not found any problems after the crashes.

  • RealVNC with Quad Core Mac Mini "Refresh Issues"

Upgraded my Mac Mini server from a dual core to Quad Core machine.  Headless machine, hence used RealVNC to administrator it.  So when I utilised RealVNC, connecting via an ipad and the quad core machine had "Refresh Issues"!!  Went back to the Dual Core machine and you can view everything in real-time!  Can't explain it and the RealVNC people can't understand it either, yet!!!???

It has a wired ethernet connection, the wireless is on but more for "location" services.  And no USB 2.0 or 3.0 devices attached, in fact it's headless, and only the power and ethernet connection attached.  But interesting to learn of the wireless issues on the new mini's.  Thanks!

  • Mac Mini Audio Issues

I just got a new Mac Mini about a month ago. I have a setup of speakers that used to sound great with my computer, yet at times, especially when music isn't playing, a crackling, distortion noise is prominent. I don't think my Harmon-Kardon Soundsticks are at fault, because when plugged into other sources, they sound fine. Now this distortion noise happens all the time; I just can't enjoy my music, felling that it isn't at its full potential. If anyone is having the same problems, if anyone one knows how to fix it, please answer me- I need help. I don't know if I should complain to Harmon- Kardon or Apple about this and my warranty doesn't last forever.

Yep, I'm having the same issue but with some analog Philips speakers. They work great on the PC box I have as well as my G4 Mini.. I thinks Apple cranked up the output of the analog "head phone" port so they would have ample volume to drive head phones, but know line level analog speakers get over driven. May be time to find an audio attenuator, cause I don't want to change everything to USB..

  • The Core Duo Mini is fantastic!

The Mac Mini is a nice machine. I have the dual core with 1GB ram, and the machine blazes. It is noticably more responsive than my 1GHz and 500MHz PowerBooks; my two most important applications for responsiveness, Mail and Safari, are more enjoyable to use now. And the Mac Mini is quieter. FrontRow and the remote control are pretty nice for watching movies (any TV brought into my house is instantly tossed over the balcony). The Mini is more portable than my laptops, especially for the bike ride to work (in the winter it is a 15-minute ride, but in summer heat the ride stretches, especially with a laptop on my back). The pocket projectors starting to enter the market will complement the Mini's portability well.

I could not agree more. I have also have the duo core and am really pleased with the imporovement over my old 1.42 mini. I had some concern about the integrated graphics but HD plays fine and all programs are quite snappy now. 3d games may not work so well butan xbox works better for games anyway.

  • MAC MINI AUDIO ISSUE

Does anyone have a clue about the following issue:
My audio keeps breaking up whenever I play anything from the computer. For eg. If I play a video from the internet, I get audio in broken bits. For 5 seconds I get sound and then for 2-3 seconds i get no audio.
Same is the case if I play a movie from my computer in VLC..Reinstalled VLC as well but no help..Tried resetting the PRAM as well. No help there....This was happening once with iTunes as well.
My HDMI connections seems fine got it checked. My MacMini is connected to my TV and the TV otherwise plays audio just fine.
    Can anyone help??????

can you change your audio setting to play audio through your headphone jack and try to see if it plays audio fine that way, just as a test?  could still be hdmi cables/connections - have you tried other cables?

  • Core Duo Mini DEAD??

In the middle of a Skype chat, my screen goes blank, and I can no longer hear anything. I held in the power button to manually shut down the mini. When I started it up, all I get is a flashing power light. I can barely hear anything going on inside.
I think my mini is dead. I'm not worried about warranty, or data, as I've backed everything up. So, what do you think it is. I'll be taking it to CompUSA Monday, but does anyone have any ideas here?
    Thanks,
    Bryan

If the power light is constantly flashing after you try to start it then there's a hardware issue and yes, take it in for a servicing.

  • Can you daisy chain 2, 3 or more Core Duo Minis VTech style?

I'm interested in the mini(s) if I can daisy chain them to spread the workload on various minis....much like System X in Virginia Tech. I'm trying to use my $2K budget the best way possible.
If not, can I at least run logic on one and use the other as a node? If so, do I need to consider how much memory EACH has, or just the main mini?
    Thanks in advance.
    SX

Well, if 2 nodes is all you need you'll probably be fine using just the Giga Ethernet. Just pick the tracks with more processing to do if your nodes aren't working hard enough. More info...well you can find it in the Logic forums....what else do you need to know? You'll want a Router or just use 1 on FW and 1 on Ethernet. You just need to to network them, create a private network (noone else needs access to them). Install the node app as a startup item. Leave it running for weeks at a time.
If that's all you need it for then start with 1 GB and make sure you can follow upgrading procedures. I am pretty sure it is only recommended that you install in pairs, if you buy 2 1 GB sticks put one in each and leave the factory sticks in the other slot you should be OK.

  • Core Duo Mini Troubles

I've just installed Final Cut Studio on my mini, and I'm having trouble opening Final Cut Pro. It says that there is a configuration error and that I need 512MB of RAM. I do have 512MB of RAM, as do all new minis that are being shipped.
Everything else opens fine. Motion, Soundtrack Pro and DVD Studio Pro. What do I do?

512 MB of RAM is the minimum. As David points out, the new Mac Minis share video ram with the system ram, so you actually don't have 512 MB of RAM visible as far as FCP is concerned.
Since you have the bare minimum, my recommendation is to go out and buy more RAM.
