Core Tag causes java.io.UTFDataFormatException

Hi,
I am using JSTL core tag in my JSP file. While running the file I am getting following error:
java.io.IOException: javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: The taglib validator rejected the page: "java.io.UTFDataFormatException: Invalid byte 2 of 3-byte UTF-8 sequence., "I am using WebLogic 8.1 SP4 version and eclipse 3.1.1 with MyEclipse configured.
Can anybdy please help me find a solution to my problem. It's urgent.
Thanks in advance.
Niranjan

I'm sorry my mind reading powers aren't working today.
Can you show an example of a simple JSP that duplicates this error?
The smallest example possible?
What is it on the page that does this.
If you create the page in a text editor (eg notepad) does it still occur?

  • XDO Log shows - java.io.UTFDataFormatException: Invalid UTF8 encoding

    We have a XDO Region in our OA Page - that calls XML Publisher Report taking as input a XML File generated from a concurrent program. The concurrent program calls a PL/SQL Program to generate the XML File.
    The XML File has the encoding fetched from
    select tag from fnd_lookup_values
      where lookup_type = 'FND_ISO_CHARACTER_SET_MAP'
      and lookup_code = ( select value from v$nls_parameters where parameter='NLS_CHARACTERSET')
      and language='US' ;
    The tag = 'UTF-8' and hence the encoding in XML File is as -
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    The XML File is getting created successfully.. But XML Publisher is not able to process the report properly and is displaying the error - An error encountered either due to invalid Template details or due to null Data Input Stream.
    The XDO Log shows -

  • Java.io.UTFDataFormatException

    I hope this isn't a question that has been asked before, but I looked thru the posts back to July 1 and couldn't find it, so here goes:
    I just installed SJSC2 EA yesterday on Win2k Pro. I built a small page with a couple of calendars, a button, a text field or two, etc. However, when I ran it I got the exception below. Thinking I messed something up, I started over with a page with one text field, one label and one button. Pressing the button stores the date time as a string in the text field. That worked fine, but the label didn't look right. Then I started mucking with the label format, and now I have this exception again and can't get rid of it. What to do?

    Hello,
    I had similar problems with SJSC 2.
    For me the problem was that the label had french characters. I mean for "Prnom" the "" character, when I remove it from the label it works.

    Log Message:
    Fix for @copy tag causing first method arg to appear as the last arg in the destination method
    QE Notes: Some baseline will require updates.
    Doc Notes: None.
    Bugs: SDK-19974
    tests: checkintests, asdoc
    Ticket Links:

    Modified Paths:
    flex/sdk/trunk/modules/compiler/src/java/flex2/compiler/asdoc/AsDocUtil.java

    Well, putting all that Java code into a JSP was a bad idea in the first place, just on general design principles. But you've done it in such a way that the result of compiling the JSP is malformed Java code. Frankly I would just throw it away and put the Java code into a servlet or some other Java class, where it belongs.
    But if you're really working in a place where nobody has learned anything since 2003, and you're forced to support that old junk, then I would point out that the error occurs before the place which generates this line:
    import java.util.*;You only need to look at two of the thousand lines of code you posted.

  • Imported XML errors "java.io.UTFDataFormatException: Invalid UTF8 encoding"

    Hi,
    I had to display a mutli select table region in a Oracle Standard Supplier Site Manage page in R12. So I had a created a custom Stack Layout region and imported in to the database. The import went through fine. Then using Personalization i had created an item with the item style as Stack Layout and in the extends property i mentioned the region path details (xxs/oracle/apps/pos/supplier/webui/XXSByrMngSiteRN) and saved the changes. When i go back to the standard page i am getting the below error stack.
    I tested this in our development instance and it worked fine. when i moved it to the system test environment this issue came up. There is no difference in the patch levels between the development and system test environments. Please let me know if you have any idea about resolving the error.

    java.io.UTFDataFormatException using WS-I Analyzer
    Regards, Suresh

    Suresh,
    You obviously already know about the OA Framework forum (since you posted the same question over there). That seems like the correct place for this post.
    Also, since you have OA Framework, you have access to Metalink, and since you didn't get any fast answers on the OA Framework Forum, Metalink seems like a really attractive option, no?
    Best,

  • Exception:java.io.UTFDataFormatException: invalid byte 2 of 2-byte UTF-8 se

    While feeding the parser with the xml string returned , the present data found contains some invalid UTF-8 characters(e.g, ""). This would amount to a "java.io.UTFDataFormatException" exception.
    This is the code where I initialize the parser & feed the InputSource:
    public class ISEGeneralSearchResultsParser extends DefaultHandler{
    private static final String DEFAULT_PARSER_NAME     = "org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser";
    private static final String VALIDATION               = "http://xml.org/sax/features/validation";
    private static final String NAMESPACE               = "http://xml.org/sax/features/namespaces";
    private static final String SCHEMA                    = "http://apache.org/xml/features/validation/schema";
    protected static boolean cbSetValidation           = false;
    protected static boolean cbSetNameSpaces           = false;
    protected static boolean cbSetSchemaSupport           = false;
    public void toRecord(String asXML)
              throws Exception
              try
                   ByteArrayInputStream byteStream = new ByteArrayInputStream(asXML.getBytes());
                   String lsParserName = DEFAULT_PARSER_NAME;
                   try
                        lParser = (XMLReader)Class.forName(lsParserName).newInstance();
                        lParser.setFeature( VALIDATION, cbSetValidation);
         lParser.setFeature( NAMESPACE, cbSetNameSpaces);
         lParser.setFeature( SCHEMA, cbSetSchemaSupport);
         lParser.setContentHandler((DefaultHandler)this);
         lParser.setErrorHandler((DefaultHandler)this);
                   catch(Exception parserException)
                        throw new SNETException("ISE011");
                   lParser.parse(new InputSource((InputStream)byteStream));
              catch (Exception xmlStringException)
                   throw new SNETException("ISE012");
    My question how would I make the parser understand that the characters allowed could be also for example?
    Thanking you in anitcipation!!
    Cheers

    My question how would I make the parser understand
    that the characters allowed could be also for
    example?You would give it an XML file that declares its encoding properly. If it doesn't declare its encoding at all, you'd make sure it was really encoded in UTF-8. Hint: just stating an encoding in the XML's prologue doesn't mean that the data is really encoded that way. That's the responsibility of the creator of the file.

    Thanks,

    Hi Siddiqui,
    It looks like u r importing some characters those are not valid UTF-8 character set and some time this type of error comes when u try to import characters like *<,>* so use *& lt;* for < and *>* for >.
    sorry those Characters r not display properly :-(
    Thanx

    Well utf-8 is the encoding so it isn't suprising that it's the content.
    Probably has something to do with:

  • Java.io.UTFDataFormatException using WS-I Analyzer

    Hi
    I'm trying to use WS-I Analyzer on the HTTP Analyzer logs. If the HTTP Analyzer logs contain accented characters I get a Message Box with NullPointerException. If I check the JDeveloper conse I get:

    Regards,

    Hi,
    I've got the same error, although the XML seems to be valid UTF-8.
    I'm also interested in any ideas regarding this.
    (Btw, the exception message is "Invalid UTF-8 encoding" in English.)
    (I've only found this post related to this exception at Sun Java Forum, but it doesn't help.)
    Thanks,
    Patrik

    There are 2 approches.
    1. you can directly read and write through RFID Programmer or use a middleware. The RFID Programmer probably comes with a driver that you can only access from C. If you want to do it from Java, you will have to use native code. The problem with this approch is that you are tied to one particular hardware.
    2. Use a RFID platform like the one Sun has.
    http://wwws.sun.com/software/solutions/rfid/
    Sun provides an API in Java and you can use the API in your application. The RFID platform supports multiple hardware and so will your application.

  • A working application suddenly caused java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError

    I have a web application running on a resin server. Everything in my application worked fine at the beginning but suddenly I got java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError. I looked at the line number of the exception and found out that the classes causing java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError are always the ones that contain static collection of data. The samples of those classes are CityList class and CountryList class which has a HashMap of city IDs and the city name strings. I'm not sure why those classes suddenly become unavailable. The strange thing is that my application becomes normal again when I upload my classes to site. Please note that my webhoster set up the server so that every time I upload my file to their given directory, it's automatically copied to the resin server. I have no direct access to the resin server myself. After I re-upload my classes, everything seems ok for a few hours, then suddenly I get NoClassDefFoundError again.
    Anyone knows why? Please help. I have no idea why this is happening.

    I seem to have a similar problem. No fix...looking for a solution.
    I have a stand alone java application that will run for a long period of time. While running it calls a specific static method on a class. Everything is working fine (while executing the method in the class) and then, all of a sudden, I will get a noClassDef error.
    I am running this application with a number of JVMs, all using the same version of Java and they do not show this problem. I know that they are all calling the same class and method and they never have the problem. But, every now and then, it seems like there is some runtime condition that comes up where it is not able to load a class.
    The problem appears to be dynamic because I can restart the application (after the JVM crashes with the exception) and everything works fine, including the class and method that caused the problem. I start everything with scripts so there is no variation in classpath settings.
    I have seen a similar problem in a non-static class when one event happens and it goes to load a common class (that I know is in the classpath) and I get the noClassDef error.
    Could this be a threading issue in any way? No ideas, no fixes in sight. Any ideas or questions would be helpful.

  • Passing variables between data tag and Java

    Hello all,
    I have a question about using variables between data tag and java.
    Let me explain.
    I would like to populate variable "Test" with
    the information returned by jbo data tag library.
    <code>
    <% String Test = "%><jbo:ShowValue datasource="ds" dataitem="Cod" /><%";%>
    or
    <% String Test = "<jbo:ShowValue datasource="ds" dataitem="Cod" />";%>
    </code>
    This code did not work.
    Some suggestions
    Thanks

    Humberto,
    I'm afraid I do not know the specific answer
    to your question (perhaps Juan the Data Tag
    Wizard will reply ;-). I vaguely recall
    struggling with teh same issue when I was
    playing with the tags for a demo. Here
    is a hack-around lifted from my demo
    that might help:
    <jbo:Row id="privRow" action="CURRENT" datasource="privileges" />
    <%
    String privName = (String)privRow.getAttribute("Privilegename");
    %>
    In other words, I ended up using the Row
    tag to get a local Java variable bound to the
    row instance and then used its methods
    to extract the value. I presume the class
    of the row instance is oracle.jbo.Row
    and you can lookup its supported methods
    in the reference doc.
    I'd be interested to hear if their is a more
    elegant way - the one suggested above is
    pretty tedious.
    Regards,
    Bill
