its been like this for a long time, have been waiting for a build to get rid of this problem
thought its about time to check if its a common problem or not?
when killing its process, its restarts and is fine for for some time...then comes back "red" "coreaudiod (not responding)

I am not sure if this will help, but hidden away is an audio forum that deals directly with coreaudio.
It might get you a bit more assistance.

10.5.3 coreaudiod (Not Responding)
After installing 10.5.3, the process coreaudiod in Activity Monitor shows as not responding. Quitting the process does not fix it, since after a couple of minutes it goes back to not responding, even when letting the computer idle without opening or closing any applications.
I have tried fixing permissions, zapping the PRAM, threw away coreaudio and audio preference files, but it always comes back. Audio applications seem not to be affected by it with playback and recording working without problems.
However, when I connect a Magma PCI Expansion chassis to the MacBookPro, several problems appear. In the finder, the icons on the menubar for the clock, wireless signal strength, audio
volume, etc. dissappear, only the spotlight icon remains. It is also impossible to turn them on via the control panels in system preferences. Clicking on the radio button works, but then resets itself to not clicked! right in front of my eyes.
Also, the system enters an error loop. In activity monitor, the process SystemUIServer continuously generates crash reports that get written in the Console's log.
It may be that the Magma chassis is not compatible with 10.5.3 although it is recognized in System Profiler, with no errors and claimed to be compatible.
Anyone else seeing this in Activity Monitor?Macophile wrote:
Ahh Ha! How many of you are using a new little application called Hear?
What's new in this version(1.0.2):
** Fixed problem where Hear was causing 'UserEventAgent' process to show as 'not responding'.*
** Fixed problem where Hear was causing 'coreaudiod' process in 10.5.3 to show as 'not responding'.*
* Fixed a bug where the EQ settings were not getting enabled unless the Hear application was launched first.
* Fixed a bug where the EQ Resolution popup was not detecting mouse clicks on the right side of the popup.
* When running in demo mode, the user now has the option to uninstall.
* Uninstall now prompts to the user to restart their system, to completely uninstall everything.
* Added '96' as a new default choice in the EQ resolution popup.
Updating worked for me, yay!
I finally solved a problem on Apple Discussions, please mark this problem solved so I get a star, whee
Great!! Solved on both computers!! Thank you!!

Hello All,
I happenned to look at my activity monitor, coreaudiod (owned by root) was in red. I remember this happenning a couple of times earlier (last 6 months?). When I restart my computer it is OK again, but probably goes red some time again. Do I need to worry too much? Any trouble shooting I can do? What I have done recently is to delete imovie and iphoto (the version that came free with 10.2) to free some space. Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance. That is almost certainly not a glitch with coreaudiod, but with Activity Monitor not refreshing its info correctly. (If anything were really wrong with coreaudiod it would be re-launched by launchd. Force Quit it in Activity Monitor and watch what happens!). Whenever you see coreaudiod in red just quit Activity Monitor and immediately re-launch it. In black now, eh?
BTW, the glitch with Activity Monitor is not something for you to try to cure – it's down to Apple. -
Coreaudiod root process- not responding?
I installed a new graphic card ATI 23870.
The card's fan runs all the time so;
I switched on Activity monitor and selected all processes.
I noticed Process ID 145 coreaudiod (Not Responding) in red.
I went to force quit and was told it was a root process.
What is this?
What would cause it not to respond.Perhaps some hints in this thread:

Thanks ... Ken -
Coreaudiod and UserEventAgent both not responding
I noticed in Activity Monitor showing all process on a clean boot I get both coreaudiod and UserEventAgent both not responding. I though this might be something to do with sound but the funny thing is everything seems ok. Audio and video and the general running of the computer seems to be fine unless i had not looked in activity monitor i probably would not of noticed.
If i quit both processes they dont appear again in red not responding.
But if i start an app or play a sound ot video they both pop back up again as not responding yet the system functions as normal seemingly and sound and audio works fine.
Any Ideas. Sure seems a little strange.OK fixed it after a bunch of research I found 2 plugins that can ause problems in the
go to :
Library\Audio\Plug-Ins folder
I had a folder called HAL which had a plugin for protools which i dont have anyways and i deleted it. Also there is a app called Hear which had a plugin i deleted as well. So basically if you are having similar issues check the various plug-ins in these folders and try removing them The Protools one is a known culprit as well as the Hear one. -
CoreAudiod keeps showing not responding
Everything here good after upgrading to 10.5. However I have noticed in my processes that COREAUDIOD keeps showing up not responding. I can kill it and then it will restart but goes unresponsive again after awhile.
Any one else seeing this? Any thing to look for?Yep,
I have exactly the same thing, and there's no fix for it.
Some people have mentioned deleting everything to do with DigiDesign (an audio plug-in), but I don't even HAVE those in the first place, yet coreaudiod decides to hang.
Very frustrating. -
I prefer using Firefox, and do all the time. However, this used to happen occasionally, then go away. Now it is happening all the time.
If I try to enter aol email, I receive the message: "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing FF process, or restart your system.
And I can find no way to close it when that happens.
Would really like to have this solved. Do not believe it is a computer or internet problem - just had my computer repaired because of a faulty disc drive. It is a three year old Dell, with Windows XPSee "Hang at exit":

I originally posted this question to the community section and was advised to post it here. Please bear with me as this will be a long post. I'm including the scenarios involving this reoccurring issue, the trouble shooting steps I've already
taken and the results of several diagnostic tools and logs.
I have a Sony VAIOS VPCEBB33FM lap top since 2011. I have had this issue on an off for a long time. I'm at my wit's end. Any new insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Scenario Details
1) Some times it's on and off through out the day, sometimes it won't work all day, and once in a while it will work fine for the entire day.
2) I've had this issue across several wireless services, Clear Network accessed with WiMax, Library Wi-fi, Comcast cable internet using wireless router and Wi-fi, and Comcast Xfinity Wi-Fi, to name a few examples.
3) Other devices in the household or library will work with no problems such as my smart phone or my roommates' laptops or desktop computers.
4) Once in a while, the built-in wireless adapter is not found and I have to reinstall the driver. Also the diagnostic tool has had to reset my adapter on an increasing basis.
5) I had my hard drive replaced in December 2014 and my system restored from the System Restore disks that came with it when I bought the laptop. Even though I've been online on an infrequent basis it worked just fine for a while. Now that
I've been online a bit more I'm having the same issues again.
Below are my attempts at trouble shooting so far but I still have not been able to consistently resolve my DNS issues
1) Restarting my adapter
2) Turning off my laptop and removing the power supply for 5-10 minutes before turning it back on.
3) Using the IP Config in Command Prompt
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
4) Using the NetSh reset in Command Prompt and restarting my laptop
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /flushdns
[restart laptop]
5) Configuring the TCP/IP in several settings
Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click Properties.
I have used the following settings:
a) Obtain an DNS server address automatically
b) OpenDNS
208 67 222 222
208 67 220 220
c) Google DNS
8 8 8 8
8 8 4 4
6) Updating the driver for my Intel Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6250 AGN and Intel Centrino(R) WIMAX 6250 from the Intel website previous having my laptop wiped clean in 2014. It still did not resolve the issue. My laptop
manufacturer as not come up with an driver update for my adapter since 2010. I haven't tried to update the adapter driver from Intel's website since having my laptop repaired due to the fact that Intel strongly recommending using the manufacturer's updates
instead and frankly it didn't make much of a difference when I did it the first time.
7) The last one I've tried as of today is going into Services and changing the start up type to automatic for the following:
Computer Browser [changed from manual to automatic]
DHCP Client [already set to automatic]
DNS Client [already set to automatic]
Network Connections [already set to automatic]
Network Location Awareness [changed from manual to automatic]
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) [already set to automatic]
Server [already set to automatic]
TCP/IP Netbios helper [already set to automatic]
Workstation [already set to automatic]
...and I'm still having DNS issues.
My only guessing are that my laptop came with a lemon adapter that needs to be replaced, some advanced setting(s) that I'm not aware off, or my firewall/anti-virus is interfering. I've used Symmantic Anti-virus and Firewall in the past and currently
Avast Anti-Virus with Microsoft Network Firewall. I've had DNS issues with both anti-virus/firewall set ups.
Below are the results from the diagnostics and tests that I've ran.

Hi fellas,
I got a new CPU for my maschine, which runs on ARCH-x86_64 Kernel 3.6.10. So far everything went fine but one thing:
At boot, only of the two cores is recognized. This is only the case in Arch, both BIOS and Windows show both Cores. I rebuilt my initramfs and reinstalled linux, but none helped.
I realize, there are several topics around the www and this board, but none of them helped me in my case.
I tried some things, like booting the LTS-Kernel.
Any ideas how I can solve this issue?
I got the outputs of dmesg (system boot):
I think the relevant Lines are around 0.17000.

Logic 9 Session Suddenly Not Responding
Greetings,
I am suddenly having issues with a very important Logic session that I have worked on for months (and haven't had any issues with until now). The problem appeared seemingly overnight. I can open this particular session, the files and plug-ins load, and the arrange window is displayed. And then, I cannot do *anything* without getting the color spiral (which spins seemingly forever), until I option+command+escape and see that Logic is not responding. I force quit and get the following details (pasted below).
FYI - I tried to open other Logic Sessions, and all seem to be working fine. I have tried deleting my preferences, opening the session without my audio interface, I have reinstalled my operating system, and a 3rd party plug-in or two (that I suspected was the problem), and the problem remains.
PLEASE HELP!

When you do that, the assigned controller no longer functions as a normal message in Logic, and instead is used to control the currently active automation parameter on the current Arrange track. Try going into the Automation preferences and turn off Automation Quick Access.

Your help is greatly appreciated. You stated that you can ping ACS from the router, did you try sourcing the packets from the GigabitEthernet 0/0 interface (which is the one TACACS+ will try to use, given the configuration that you posted)?
What does the network path between the router and ACS look like (ie, any firewalls, NAT, etc)?
Can you connect to port 49 at the ACS IP address from the router sourcing the packets from GigabitEthernet 0/0 ?
Are you using VRFs?

@Location VARCHAR
Look closely at this. How many characters can @Location contain? You did not specify, so perhaps you think some appropriately large default value is used. Guess again. You did a similar thing with cast (multiple times) - which is handled
differently. Don't be lazy.
WHERE C.calendar_key = CK.Calendar_Key
Go review the join to the CK table. It is an outer join. Yet you have included criteria in the where clause that requires a match in the unpreserved (@CalendarKey aka CK) table. This effectively transforms that join from outer to inner.
Was that intentional? Probably, but then you don't need to use an outer join
FROM pdi.PDI_Warehouse_952_01.dbo.calendar C,
pdi.PDI_Warehouse_952_01.dbo.Organization O
Evolve. We do not join in the where clause any longer. You should be joining using join operators. And perhaps more importantly, why do you need to dump a resultset into a table variable at all? Note that your join is a cross join
since there is no relationship between calendar and Organization - intentional? Given the rest of the logic, it seems that you don't really need to do this.
ISNULL(CONVERT(INT, IIF.End_Inv_Qty,0), '0') as [Adj Qty],
Go review the documentation for convert. You supply a style, but does it do anything? We don't know what datatype End_Inv_Qty is, but I assume it is numeric (and not float). So what do you intend? And you convert it to integer but
use a character '0' in the isnull function. Your lack of consistency can lead to issues that are difficult to find and resolve.
CAST(C.Day_Date as DATE)
Why are you doing this? You defined the column in your table variable as datetime. You cast the value you use to populate this column to datetime. I'm guessing that you only really care about the date portion. The name you used for the
column implies this. So why bother with datetime in the first place?
And one last suggestion. If you disallow the use of NULL for the @EndDate argument (simply supply the same value for both date arguments) you can simplify the logic that populates your table variable (or its replacement) and greatly eliminate the confusion
and chance for errors that nullability requires. -
1) Compressor artifacts and 2) Processes not responding
The whole reason I switched from Windows/Premier to Mac/Final Cut was to avoid broken software. I'm beginning to think the Mac is no better. Well, that's not entirely true. I think OS X is more stable than any version of windows but DVD Studio Pro 4.0.2 is a step back in stability at least for me. Before upgrading to Tiger and FCS, I could reliably build and burn DVDs. Now I can no longer pry a complete working DVD out of DVDSP4.
I've got so many problems and so many questions I don't know if I should post them all in one message. I guess I'll keep them in one message but try to keep it short.

BACKGROUND
I shoot and edit a weekly local soap opera: http://www.shadesoflife.net
Each time I complete four episodes I create a DVD with these four episodes on it for the cast. This DVD I'm working on is for episodes 92 through 95 and I'm adding chapter marks and scene indexes to the DVD. By using the DVDSP templates and the correct drop zones, this has been quite easy, except for the fact that I can't seem to get the video to import any more.
Actually I got three of my four episodes to import just fine. These were exported from FCP as stand-alone QT movies and included chapter marks. Episode 94 would never finish the background compression step when importing into the DVDSP project as an asset.
Because of the suggestions I read in other articles in this discussion group about this kind of problem, I deleted the episode 94 audio and video assets from the project along with all menus which referenced them. I then started Compressor and transcoded the Episode 94 stand-alone QT movie and got these two files as a result:
"SOL-094-DVD PCM Audio-.aiff"
"SOL-094-MPEG-2 60 min Fast Encode-.m2v"
Next I imported these assets into the DVDSP project and used them to build the menus. This went smoothly. But, when I run the DVD simulation in DVDSP, episode 94 shows serious artifacts which render it unwatchable.
QUESTIONS: What Compressor encoding settings should I be using? What is the meaning of "60 min" and "120 min" in the encode settings? If I use a "120 min" setting will the file be bigger or smaller?
As I set here after reading the similar problems people have posted and the solutions and work-arounds people have suggested I see that a number of processes are not responding, according to the activity monitor. Generally this means that something is broken, but what. After rebooting OS X, running Compressor and then DVDSP I see the following processes that are not responding:
- compressor
- coreaudiod
- DSPX_AEncoderServer
- DSPX_EncoderServer
- two copies of MediaServer
When I exit DVDSP all but the top two disappear. What is "not responding" a symptom of?
I could sure use some help here. Thanks.
Peace,
Rob:-]Same here :
It seems this problem started after updating QuickTime Player 7.0.2
when I open the Simulator in DVD 3.0.2 I can see (in Activity Monitor) 2 processes coming up : DSPX_AEncoderServer and DSPX_Encoder.
Instantly they turn red and get (Hung) added.
The 'inspect/open files' for DSPX_AEncoderServer:
/ (/dev/disk0s9)
/dev/null
/dev/console
/dev/console

/System/Library/Frameworks/QuickTime.framework/Versions/A/Resources/QuickTime.rs rc
/System/Library/Frameworks/QuickTime.framework/Versions/A/Resources/English.lpro j/Localized.rsrc
So, in both files it stops with QuickTime.
We have QuickTime Player 7.0.2
So, if you read this, can you please help !!!

I can confirm that iTunes will now open and is functional. It seems that if the application can't access some internet resource immediately when it launches it will immediately lock up and never come back! No offline mode??!?!
