Coreaudiod stack shots freeze audio causing major issues for music performances

Dear all,
I've been experiencing a very annoying issue : is several applications (Itunes, Mozilla, Safari, Ableton, etc. - everything that does audio) is get occasional, irregular freezes. The audio would freeze for about 20 sec, videos that are playing would freeze too. After this 20 sec freeze thing continue normally. If for example a track plays in iTunes and freeze at the 1'00" mark, it will continue playing from there after the approx. 20 sec freeze is over.
Other apps opened in the background (text editor for example) remain functioning.
The issue is hard to repeat and irregular. I work professionally with audio so this is a nightmare - it ruins recording sessions and I need to be able to count on faultless, stable playback for live  performance.
OS is 10.8.5 - I cannot upgrade to 10.10 at this moment since my firewire audio interfaces (Mackie Onyx + Motu Ultralite) will most likely not be compatible with the newest mac OS (as stated on the audio interface manufacturer's website).
Macbook pro model is late 2011, 2,4gHz processor, 8gb Ram
This issue happens both when using the internal soundcard and when using external audio interfaces.
Every time this freeze happens,  a list like this appears in console :
" coreaudiod : Disabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is active"
" coreaudiod : Disabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is inactive"
" coreaudiod : Disabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is active"
" coreaudiod : Disabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is inactive"
" coreaudiod : Disabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is active"
" coreaudiod : Disabled automatic stack shots because audio IO is inactive"
(sometimes the list of enabled-disabled is longer)
troubleshooting i've tried so far :
1) I have recently done a clean install of the OS, manually copying the necessary files and installing the applications. I was obliged to do this since my hard disk failed 2 weeks ago and my mac had become very unstable. I've been working on 10.8.5 for a long time and haven't encountered this issue until after the clean install.
2) updating all necessary firmware
3) updating adobe flash
4) creating a com.apple.audio.ServerSettings.plist file  with xcode and placing it in the library/audio folder with this content :
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
  <key>AllowStackShotsDuringIO</key>
  <true/>
</dict>
</plist>
a tip i found here : http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/91297/coreaudiod-spams-system-log-enabl ed-automatic-stack-shots-because-audio-i… After doing this i didn't have the problem for 1 whole day, afterwards the same issue popped up again.
5) manually quitting the coreaudiod process in activity monitor and restarting - this also seemed to help for a while but didn't last
Any hints and help are extremely welcome - I need this issue to be solved asap since i need to be able to depend on a stable audio environment for professional reasons.
Thanks a lot in advance,
K

Oh and I also tried :
* P-Ram reset
* repairing permissions, verifying disk and hardware diagnostics - no apparent issues there
thanks

    I have been having MAJOR issues for the last few months:
    1.) My iTunes keeps shutting down on me, after 5-10 minutes of being opened and starting updates, or if I play music. I restart iTunes and it just does it over and over again.
    2.) I have homesahring ON on both my desktop PC and my AppleTV 2nd gen, but my AppleTV cannot access the computer. I have restarted and reset both PC and AppleTV over and over, but still no luck.
    Any suggestions?

    Only that you may wish to resolve issue 1 before looking at #2. The best forum for that would be the iTunes for windows community.

  • Freezing after overheat/start-up freezing... major issues

    Hi guys,
    Quick back-story is that my G5 runs my Pro Tools HD system. I left the control room for a while and forgot to turn the AC on. Yep, stupid. The room got very hot, but keep in mind... I have NO idea if this was part of the problem or just coincidence. I came back and the machine was frozen on the display-saver. I forced down, restarted and it's never been the same. I've tried every trick I know... resetting PRAM, verifying disk permissions, starting without extensions and I even tried to reinstall OSX, but it even freezes from the startup disk. It says the memory is O.K. in About this Mac.
    So, I booted from the CD to see if I could do a verify disk from the CD, and it just freezes a couple minutes in every time. Every once in a while, I'll get it to start up properly.... then I'll launch a few programs and it just cold freezes after a few minutes. It's not a kernel panic or a spinning wheel... just a hard freeze.... mouse stops working, you know the drill.
    So, I'm somewhat fearful that the issue here is hardware-related. I'm trying to continue to do an Apple Hardware test from the CD, but freeze-city.
    I can generally sort my way though this kind of thing. I've had gobs of these over the years, but this seems different in the way it's behaving.
    Yes, I can take it to a shop. Just wondering if anyone has any speculation or ideas I may have missed.
    (More back-story, I run Pro Tools HD on the PXI-X cards, so I have to have a G5... Mac Pro won't work for me, so I could buy another used G5 if I had to, but it's the set-up that's the nightmare.)
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi WCR-
    I'm somewhat in the same boat. If you see my threat (G5 2.0 DP June 2004 Won't Boot!) I am experiencing similar symptoms. I've replaced every component in my box except the power supply and both processors - and everything I experience leads me to believe the problem is a blown processor, the "1" position. Now my machine won't even see CPU1 - just CPU 0. If you can keep it alive long enough, download the disk image for Apple Service Diagnostic from apple.com and see if you can run diagnostic tests on the CPU's alone. That will at least answer that question.
    Unlike your situation, I got the computer in a broken state, so I don't know if heat is what caused the issue.
    I guess that doesn't really answer your question, but at least don't go dropping a boat load of money on a new logic board, because it hasn't fixed my problems - it probably won't fix yours either.

  • IE settings causing major issues

    Dear All,
    We have deployed the netweaver EP (2004s) 2 months back on a production environment, mainly with ESS functionality.
    We have around 2000+ users in varying geographical locations in varying business units all controlled through a one network. However, each business on its own may have Active Directory additionally installed. There have been numerous complaints that the portal does not function properly when AD is installed.
    Is there some additional settings that need to be set up where AD is installed?
    We have not faced any difficulties where AD is not installed. However, some users keep complaining that the IE settings have to be reset after some time. i.e clear the temporary internet files etc. Users are not the IT savy and this is causing a major headache for us. Is there a workaround to this?
    Thanks for any assistance in advance,
    Antony.

    Hi Brad,
    Machines with XP SP2 are not facing issues. However, as we have rolled out ESS for 2000+ users, we are facing issues when it comes to IE 7. Java script errors come up and the log off functionality is not working.
    If we apply SP10 i assume these issues will go away. But still users complain that they have to re-delete cookies as the portal is not getting displayed prpoerly after some time. PC's connected to AD environments are forcing the deletion of cookies at the time of machine startups. Is this recommended?
    Antony.

  • Major issues for DBA

    Hello friends
    please anyone tell me what are the five major issues which cannot solve by DBA

    Since it was an interview question so you could replied like this :
    1.DBA can'not help in issues which is/are related to hardware problem.
    2.Any issue which is directly dealt by OS internals i.e. thread handling, memory allocation by OS etc.
    3.DBA is helpless to solve those issues which are related to that technology's typical aspect; i.e. What is Assembly in ASP.NET, how does Fantom read deal in non-oracle db.
    4.Sometime DBA can not do anything to help faster running of a web application, which is cookies, session related etc.
    5.Anything issue which is related to download and install RPM, DLL, Exes are not generally handelded by DBAs.

  • Links Pallette Causing MAJOR issues

    Hi Everybody!
    What should have probably been my FIRST place to turn when this issue started occuring, has somehow turned into the last place I have come for answers.
    With that said, hello! Please help me!
    Currently ailing me is my LINKS PALETTE.
    After a long day of prepping a file for some flexo plates (today, for example, I have been working on the same file for upwards of 8 hours, attempting to sandwich 4 different designs into a neat & tidy AI file), my computer tends to get nauseous. Illustrator crashes, and I hope that I've saved my file recently enough that I don't have to go back and re-do a ton of work. Of course, with my fingers perpetually command+s-ing, my file is fine, in the same state it was before my Illustrator hiccup. Or is it?
    Glancing over the file, I realize that the majority of my links are missing. Upon further inspection, I realize that they are not just missing, they are now "blank". And there are now many copies of them, also "blank". Some are left intact, some multiplied one on top of another, and others left to whatever this new "blank" thing is. Totally arbitrary, extremely annoying, and in the flexographic industry, extremely dangerous. The last thing I need is for a file to go to press missing an image! As an operator, it'll be MY head that rolls.
    Currently some of my co-workers are experiencing the same phenomenon, but until today, were a bit leery about admitting to it for fear that it was operator error. Other co-wokers are not experiencing this at all, and are even capable of opening the same files without seeing a disasterous links panel.
    Please see the below screen shot. I haven't the slightest.
    there should only be like 1 or 2 of each of those links.
    Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
    Catie

    Yes I am.
    it's generally not a good advice to do that.
    For some people working directly on a server works. For others it won't. Illustrator is very prissy about working directly on remote volumes. The technote makes it clear.
    The problem is that trouble may sometimes be caused by very little things or options you least think of. You'll need to double check every piece of hardware and software/drivers involved in order to make this work. It doesn't mean anything if it works for your colleagues. You are connected via a different cable, maybe a different switch or router and maybe your computer is set up differently.

    I'm not a techy, but I did see on another thread to run EtreCheck.  I called up Apple Support a few months ago, before Mavericks, as my system was running slower.   The Apple tech said I have plenty of room on my hard drive and to just delete stuff of of my desktop.  So I did - didn't really help. Hello,
    Yes, your Mac is seriously lacking of RAM. 2 GBs of RAM simply will not cut it on OS X Mavericks.
    The real world working minimum RAM is really 4 GBs and more is better of you can afford it.
    Your year and model Mac can take a total of 8 GBs of RAM.
    Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
    OWC carries that 8 GB RAM kit.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/Macbook_ selector
    Also, you have some older PowerPC Apps, extensions and plugins that need to be removed as older PowerPC applications no longer work on OS X since the introduction of OS X 10.7 Lion.
    Kernel Extensions:
              [not loaded] com.Belcarra.iokit.USBLAN_netpart (2.0.2) Support

    I do not know what all these are for, but if it is for connected hardware devices, you need to see if there are any new updates from each device maker's websites.
    You appear to have two USB LAN remote control extensions that could be causing issues as one is for OS X 10.3 Panther and it is very old. The other one looks old, too!
    If you do not use any of this hardware any longer on your Mac, you can find these to delete and Trash in the System>Library>Extensions folder.
    User iTunes Plug-ins:
              iLike: Version: 1.0 Support
              PPC Bundle: Version: (null) Support
              iLike Bundle: Version: (null) Support
              Tiger Bundle: Version: (null) Support
    These look like older PowerPC Pllugins. for iTunes which will no longer work.
    These are in your User>Library folder which is hidden from the user, now (kinda ironic, that).
    In the Finder, click the Go menu and hold the Option key.  The Library folder will appear under the Go menu until you release the Option key.
    Open this folder and look for the iTunes>Plugins folder and drag these to the Trash and empty.
    Make sure to update all of your installed  third party software if there are OS X Mavericks updates that can be applied.
    You may need to, ACTUALLY, go the third party developers' websites if there are no updates through the Mac App Store.
    Update all of your Web browser Internet plugins, extensions and add-ons also.
    Also, if you have any connected  third party devices, like non-Apple keyboards, mice, drawing tablets, hubs, card  readers, etc, you need to update the drivers for these devices to OS X Mavericks compatible versions by going to the device makers' websites and search for newer software and driver updates.
    After you have completed all these activities (minus the installation of new RAM) restart your Mac.
    Good Luck!

  • Disabling Bonjour causes MAJOR issues with Itunes

    In case anyone doesn't know, Itunes now ships with a service called Bonjour, which shares your files without asking you, online and via bluetooth.
    Disabling this service makes Itunes completely unusable, therefore we are being FORCED to share our personal files without consent... how can this be legal?
    Anyone know where/how/which version of itunes was the last without Bonjour?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Wow I really didn't expect this post to be heard let alone be responded to in such detail!  Thanks so much for listening to my frustrations..
    Most of all I feel iTunes Match falls just short of what in needs to be because its missing a few minor features. With a minor update to how it works these issues could be completely resolved.
    The cloud, in my opion, could act as more of a background operation.   If it was just a way to access music not already synced manually, it would allow for users to still control what music gets synced and the rest goes to the cloud.. in the background.  Instead of removing the features that allow users to check with playlist, songs, albums and artists they want to sync, instead keep this option.  The cloud would hold the complete library.
    This minor difference would make it something that would not remove any existing functionality while still enjoying all the benefits of the cloud.
    Until I get to have control of the sync manually and use the cloud I will have to cancel my itunes match because its causing more problems than it solves.
    FYI  all of my apple cloud services are currently off because of similar issues.  There needs to be a ballance between simplicity and user control.
    Steve's war with Google doesn't allow me to merge my contacts with theirs becasue you are specifically limiting it to happen. Google has to exploit loopholes to make everything sync by going around Apple's roadblocks.   Its a real bummer.

    hi i just like to say i had a similar fault though i would be surprised if it causing yours,but you never know,my fault was my laptop lid, [9 months old] it contains the mic ,and when the lid was in a certain angle crackles could be heard worse when i had my external sound card in, it was a faulty membrane [ lid to body] easily missed by engineer because it was the same angle all the time it happened,good luck, PS you English is very good

  • Automatic Red Eye on Import causing major issues

    Hi everyone,
    I am a new user to PSE 7 and the other night I was bringing all my photos into the organizer.  I chose to use the automatic remove red eye on import and to suggest stacks.....everything seemed to go fine, but i noticed after the import that many photos had blue/black blotches on the faces of people near their eyes.  is this some red eye failure of some sort?
    the majority of the ones that this happened to were low quality/low rez pics so I initially chalked it up to that, but i did notice that it did this to some of my high quality high res pics as well.
    so my questions are (1) can this be fixed without redoing the catalog? (2) has anyone else had this happen/ is there something wrong with my install?
    Thanks in advance

    Everyone has this happen, unless they know to turn it off beforehand. (The auto red eye feature has a bad habit of acting like this.) You'll need to disable this in both the photo downloader and the Organizer preferences. Then select the photos with the problem and go to Edit>Version Set>Revert to Original. Luckily, PSE made a version set with your original, so all you need to do is to delete the new versions.
    Since you stacked your photos, you may need to expand the stacks or unstack them to see them all.

  • Galaxy S4 KitKat Update Causing Major Issues With Data Speed and Text Messaging

    Dear All,
    My company has over 40 phone users and since the KitKat update has pushed out we are experiencing two major isssues:
    Many of our phones are only getting 3G in places that historically before they had blazing fast 4G.  Most message boards say to power off, remove the SIM card and replace.  This gives only temporary relief.  We get 4G for 10 minutes, and then it reverts to 3G, and it is slow 3G at that.  I have seen where some have gone and gotten a replacement SIM, but they indicate this is not a long term solution.  I have also seen that a hard reset/factory reset is being proposed.  However, this seems ridiculous to do to over 40 devises where the obvious cause is the update.  Has anyone found the answer to this one?
    Many users, including myself are now having outbound text messages fail.  We have to resend them over and over to get them to go through.  This problem is pretty widespread through the device pool.  I am unsure what could be causing this.  The messages fail regardless of if the phone is connected to wireless or not.

    I have had the same problem with my phone. Called tech support and after they contacted Samsung the solution is a factory reset to fix the problem and they are supposedly working on a fix for it. After doing the reset Friday, I have to restart my phone multiple times during the day to get messages to send. I also notice only 3G where we always had 4G. Called tech support again and was given the option to send phone in to have it repaired or get a refurb under warranty. Not sure what I am going to do yet but I can see it is definitely not just my phone. Of course the techs say they have not heard of this before.

    I would like to get some input and possible direction on the issue below... I am new to PL/SQL. Thanks in advance.....
    ..... The system is in the middle of processing a “For” step, i.e. a given “For” step is incomplete.
    ..... The script instructs the system to process a second “For” step with the same “for-loop variable” as the incomplete “For” step.
    When the above takes place, the system processes the second “For” step incorrectly. Instead of starting at the first value in the second “For” step’s list of values, the system begins in the middle of the value list.
    I need to change the current implementation so that if a "For" loop is encountered that has the same “loop variable” as a “For” loop already being executed, the “state” of the previous “For” step is discarded, and the state for the new “For” step is initialized to the first value in its list.
    -- Used for "for" steps
    TYPE for_list is table of varchar2(4000) index by binary_integer;
    TYPE for_loop_state is record (
    list for_list,
    next_index integer
    TYPE for_loops_list is table of for_loop_state index by steps.output_param%TYPE;
    all_for_loops for_loops_list;
    procedure for_step(list_string IN varchar2, ret_var_name IN varchar2, end_for_label IN varchar2) is
    state for_loop_state;
    end_idx number;
    list_value varchar2(4000);
    begin
    pkg_util.log('ret_var_name value after begin: ' || ret_var_name, 'I');
    -- get the current for list state, based on its output variable name
    if all_for_loops.exists(ret_var_name) then
    state := all_for_loops(ret_var_name);
    else
    state.next_index := 0;
    list_value := parse_next_param(list_string, 1, end_idx);
    -- end_idx is thrown away; for loops only have 1 input parameter (the list)
    state.list := get_for_list(list_value);
    all_for_loops(ret_var_name) := state;
    end if;
    if state.next_index < state.list.count then
    pkg_session_values.put(ret_var_name, state.list(state.next_index));
    all_for_loops(ret_var_name).next_index := state.next_index + 1;
    else
    all_for_loops.delete(ret_var_name);
    jump(end_for_label);
    end if;
    end;

    There is so much of your code hidden from view it is impossible to tell you anything other than perhaps suggest a methodology.
    Create a single variable with a known value and use dbms_output to view it as it steps through each piece of the puzzle. Determine when the value does something you don't want.

  • How difficult is it to load software on to a Mac running Lion that was written for Windows Xp,Vista. Can it be done without causing major issues.

    I am interested in getting a medical simulation program but it is available for Windows only. Is it possible to run it on a Mac system?

    You'll need to buy:
    - a Windows emulator for Mac
    - a version of Windows to run in the emulator
    I dimly remember putting that stuff on my wife's computer several years ago & it's been fine.
    Google: windows emulator macintosh
    Macs used to come with their own Windows emulator, but you had to log off one OS & log on to the other one.  Flipping back & forth was not good.  A better approach allows you to flip between OSs like flipping between applications.
    I seriously down if you can still buy Windows XP.  Stay away from Vista.  Windows 8 gets good press.

  • HELP Calibrating causing major issues

    After I calibrated my workouts my average pace has gone WAY up and before I calibrated everything was well and everything seemed pretty well accurate. I don't know how to change it back to the original and I don't even know how calibrating works and why it's screwing everything up!! SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME
    Intel Inside Pentium 4   Windows XP

    Is a treadmill really accurate for calibration? We do have these expensive ($8k) treatmills in the studio. Can I really trust the reading there? My nike+ipod is off by more than 100m against the treatmill on a 1000m run. The treatmill shows 1100m and Paula Redcliff says: You've completed 1 kilometer Thanks for any advice!
