Corel Burn.Now -- Specifications? Comparison to Windows 7 Built-In?

Has anybody used this tool that came bundled with my new Lenovo 530 and 64-bit Windows 7 Professional SP1?
I want to burn data CDs and DVDs for offline storage and archival. I need to know the file system used by this software (e.g., UDF, ISO 9660, Mode, Level, Joliet, etc.) and disk format (e.g., Disk-at-Once, multi-session, disk not closed, etc.) in order to assess compatibility with other readers and operating systems. There is precious little specific information in the "User Guide" provided with the progam.
The same questions apply to the Windows 7 built-in disk burner in "Mastered" format -- I would never use "Live File System" format, whatever that is.

Two addenda to the previous post:
1) Ulead Burn.Now 4.5 (aka. "Corel Burn.Now") doesn't know explicitly about different track "Modes" (e.g., Mode 1, Mode 2 Form 1, etc.) and gives you no direct control over that. (Nero 2014 **appears** to do this, but my trial copy refused to write data CD-Rs in anything but Mode 1.)
2) The best way I've found to get good diagnosis of a CD-R is to use ISOBuster free -- a really fine program! -- JCW2

Windows has a software updater built into Windows and when you install the Boot Camp drivers then it will install an Apple software updater also. I believe Windows is set to automatically download and install your updates as does the Apple software Updater. They both will update the individual files it needs to periodically.
"Microsoft updates" and "Windows updates" are basically the same thing in Windows. Are you talking about the "Windows support software" when downloading from Boot Camp Assistant? Apple installs a software updater for it's Boot Camp drivers in Windows 7 so you can do it manually or automatically.
The "Hot Fix" your referring to is only for certain motherboards built from other Windows only computer manufacturers and does NOT pertain to any Apple computers.

Problems unzipping files downloaded from Firefox using Windows built-in extractor tool

I am running Firefox v26 on a Windows 7 (64-bit) PC. I work for a library that is able to reproduce digital audio books that we can download from the Library of Congress's National Library Service (NLS) for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. I use Firefox to download a lot of zipped audio books for my job. The file formats found in one book's zipped folder often include the following file types: .3gp (they're like a more compressed MP3 audio file), .mp3, .ncx, .opf, .pncx, .ppf, .smil, .md5, .dtd, .ent, and .ao.
If I use Windows' built-in extraction tool to unzip an audio book I have downloaded via Firefox the extraction process ends prematurely and acts as if it was successful, but in reality some files are were never extracted. For example, I downloaded a zipped audio book that contained 21 files and weighed in at 87.6MB. The built-in Windows extraction tool only unzipped 2 files weighing in at 30.3MB.
I have downloaded this same zipped audio book using Google's Chrome v31 and IE 11. Both downloads unzipped successfully using Windows' extractor. To make things even more bizarre, I *was* able to successfully unzip my audio book that I downloaded using Firefox using a 3rd party extraction tool called Extract Now. Because I tend to use this 3rd party program to extract my audio files I don't know at which version of Firefox this problem started. All I know if that this hasn't always been the case.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps with extracting files.

Finder CD burn fails to read on Windows if "/" character in filename

I purchased my IMAC less that 6 months ago. It's great. I also have an EMAC which is a couple of years old. It's great too. I've discovered what I believe is a problem with the IMAC. I recently burned a CD from the finder that would not read from a Microsoft Windows box. I discovered that the problem is related to having a forward slash in the filenames. Many of the filenames contained a forward slash. In the Windows Explorer window those filenames appear with an unexpected string like #3748. Windows XP returns an unknown error trying to copy those files to the Windows hard drive. When I burn a CD using exactly the same files using exactly the same method on my EMAC, Windows can read the CD just fine. I noticed that the forward slashes had been replaced with a hyphen. I removed the forward slashes from the filenames and reburned the CD the same way on the IMAC. Windows read it just fine.
I believe that the IMAC is incorrectly creating the CD for files that contain a forward slash in the filename. I updated with all the current updates prior to trying the CD burns.
The method is:
1) insert blank CD
2) double click CD icon on desktop to bring up a finder window with a burn button
3) from a finder window drag and drop the files to the finder burn window.
4) click the burn button
5) try to read from a current up to date Windows XP box
Has anyone else experienced this same problem?
Would someone please try this on their IMAC with Tiger 10.4.7 and see if you encounter the same problem?
I'd like to determine if this is a wide spread problem or just local to my IMAC.

Thanks for the post. The files were pictures and video clips taken at a local Naval Air Show. "F/A-18C" is the formal name for a type of military jet aircrcaft. I was surprised (and pleased) that the IMAC supported the use of those characters that are reserved at the UNIX level. It made my filenames more meaningful and accurate. As long as the MAC handles the translation behind the scenes OK, it's an excellent enhancement to the MAC OS. You make a good point that there are other reserved characters. I know there are additional characters that are reserved in both UNIX and Windows filenames.
From a user perspective, after burning a CD, a dialog box pops up stating that the CD can now be read on windows and other platforms. The MAC help on burning CDs states similar things. Evidently that is not really true. At least there are a number of caveats such as the filenames created on the CD must conform to the file naming rules for the platform on which the CD is to be read. I beleived that the IMAC was performing any filename translations necessary to make the CD truely compatible.
I realize that this condition is not a MAC OS bug. The MAC is producing an ISO compliant CD based on MAC OS filenaming rules. However, it's important for MAC users to know and understand what the caveats are. I can't find any reference to these filenaming caveats anywhere, even in "The Missing Manual" by David Pogue and it has a section on Exchanging Data with Windows PCs that point out other good exchanging factors.

ITunes 7.6 "Disc Burner or Software Not Found" - Windows XP

- I have searched far and wide for this answer, but to no avail. Please, if you can, give me some help here, as I spent have the night looking for solutions. -
My wife's iTunes suddenly started giving the error message "disc burner or software not found." There are many multiple posts about this across the net, but no one seems to have an answer. Here are my specs...
Windows XP
HP Laptop, NEC drive
Daemon is NOT installed (never was).
There is no 3rd party burning software (Nero, etc) on the computer (never was).
Windows is fully up to date.
Itunes is fully up to date (installed 7.6 mere hours ago).
The drive is good; CD ripping works.
Under Advanced, iTunes does list the drive, but under the diagonstic, it doesn't come up.
No changes have been made to the system in ages; it just suddenly started giving this error.

Step 3: Clearing upper and lower registry filters
Clear the registry filters for Device Manager error codes 19 , 31 , 32 , or 39 :
Unplug all non-essential external plug and play devices, especially cameras.
Click Start , and enter "regedit " into the Start Search field.
The registry editor window appears.
Select Computer in the main window.
Click File , Export , type a filename that is easy for you to remember, and click Save .
A copy of the registry has saved for back-up purposes to the Documents folder. If problems occur after using these steps, browse to the file and double-click it to restore the registry.
Click the plus sign ( + ) next to the following items in the list:

SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
Select 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 . Make sure you have selected this exact key name.
Select the LowerFilters value and press the Delete key. Confirm the deletion by clicking Yes .

If an UpperFilters value is also listed, select UpperFilters in the right window and press the Delete key.
Confirm the deletion by clicking Yes .
Delete all other UpperFilter and LowerFilter values within the 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 key if they exist.
Close the registry editor and restart the computer. The disc drive should now be recognized by Windows. You may need to uninstall your disc recording software, restart the computer, reinstall the CD/DVD writing software, and then restart the computer again if the software no longer recognizes the drive (see next step).

Nothing personal to you or Rajshee, but this is exactly why I absolutely despise these "community forums" (not just Adobe but any company). I called the Tech Support phone line today after digging and digging for a phone number, and they told me the exact opposite, and they did it a lot faster than it was possible to get a forum response. (That's really not personal, because you can't control that, but it's a fact.)
Their answer: As long as I'm signed in with the same ID, I can try, say, Photoshop CC on my iMac at home and also try Acrobat Pro CC on my Windows 7 machine at work. Same account, same login, one trial.
This makes complete sense to me as I'm financially on the hook (potentially) for the same package. If I give away my login to someone else, which I wouldn't do, I'm still on the hook. This is why the cloud approach to software is such genius and I applaud it.
BTW, 99% of the "community forum" wrong answers come on Microsoft sites, so don't feel bad.

The virtual machine isn't a partition on your hard drive, it's just a file. You can delete the vm by going into Paralells preferences or just drag t to the trash. Bootcamp will partition your hard drive for a Win 7 install.

Now playing feature in windows messenger no longer works with latest iTunes

I recently updated iTunes to version 7.1.1.5 but now the "Now Playing" feature in windows live messenger no longer works. I had no problem before the update. Any suggestions, as i find this rather annoying

yes you need the updates and patches.
Only some of the drivers that Windows will automatically install at times
and always make sure to insure it is using restore points
do all the maintenance andsuch as normal
use MS Security Essentials for AV is really top notch
Clean disk space
Use WinClone new program to inisure you have a restore image

My experience with Win98 is that it is not a very stable system, regardless of software used. For example, Win2000 and XP are far more stable than 98. I've had it crash on its own if I leave the computer on for several days.
I wouldn't recommend running programs for long time (few days) on this OS.
This being said, can you be more specific in your question. What kind of stability problems did you have, which VIs did you run (if possible post them here), did you change the interrupts and priority levels on those VI, do you get error messages or blue screen....

Windows built-in IKEv2 clients are not finding a valid machine certificate

Hi All,
I'm trying to connect windows built-in clients to a Cisco IOS IKEv2 headend. I want to use EAP to authenticate the clients with there AD credentials. For EAP, I need to use certificates so I will use self-signed certificates as I don't have a CA.
Once I have ceated a certificate for the headend, i import this on the clients Trusted Root Certification Authorities. But when I try to connect the client to the headend, I get an error message from the client "Error 13806: IKE failed to find valid machine certificate". It seems that Microsoft is having issue with the certificate.
Does anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong?

Mail's Preferences do not affect what is seen at the other end, they are only for local display. To have the recipient see your desired font, you must set it individually for each message in the New Message pane (also you should make it different than what is set in the Preferences, because of a bug). Or you can use custom Stationery.
A workaround used by some is to create a signature in your desired font and begin your message in the first line of the sig.
If these options are not satisfactory, best to switch to Entourage or Thunderbird.
