Corel Graphics Suite features not found in Photoshop/Illustrator?

I only recently started using Photoshop, mostly because I couldn't afford it, and for years I have been using Corel Graphics Suite (Draw & Photo Paint) for all my editing.
Now, through school, I am learning my way through Illustrator and Photoshop, however there are a couple of features in the Corel products that I'm not finding in the Adobe products, so I thought I'd ask the pros.
The first is the Interactive Object Transparency Tool in Photo Paint. This allows you to fade out the edge of an image or an object, such as in the example I've posted below. I can't figure out a way to do this as well in Photoshop. The gradient tool only provides a gradient to a color fill, not an object, and masking/feathering just isn't cutting it. Is there a tool similar to this in Photoshop, or how would I get this effect?
The second feature is in Draw. After placing an image into my document in Draw, I can click a button and edit that object in Photo Paint, so I can easily go back and forth between the two applications. Illustrator doesn't seem to have this capability, at least not that I can find. Is there anything like this in Illustrator? Corel Draw seems to be a combination of both Illustrator and InDesign, in that it can also handle multi-page documents like magazines and such, and this feature makes it really easy to edit images. With the Adobe products I have to edit the image in Photoshop, save it and then place it into Illustrator and that's just so many extra steps.
I appreciate any info anyone can give me, since I am really trying to learn the Adobe products, as I realize that these are the industry standards. Since Corel products will export and import Adobe files, I've been using this just fine up to this point, but I am anxious to learn Adobe. Thanks!

As already mentioned, you create a gradient on the mask. As they are just custom channels, pretty much any tool works on layer masks (including filters) as they would on any isolated arbitrary channel. PS is far superior in this regard once you understand the concept. you just need to clear your mind from CDRs awkward, complicated and limited methods.

Not correct. You can "Edit Original" from pretty much any Adobe app. If it doesn't work, you may simply have a configuration problem on your system where another program has "stolen" file associations, preventing this from working correctly. Additionally, depending on how the file is used in AI, it may become uneditable, which can happen if you meddle with transparency options or blending modes there. This, however, is also logical as AI simply tries to retain the appearance, so you will have to decide where you do some of those things in teh first place... In any case, check the Links panel and Info palette in AI for the status of linked external documents.

The naming convention can be misleading.
People use CC when they mean CC 2014. aka v. 14 and v. 15 respectively.
But Adobe is labeling their products as suite groups. CS 6, CC, CC 2014.

Download and install Bridge CC, then in the Bridge Edit menu > Color Settings choose the color settings you want to synchronize your CC apps to.

All Automate features not working in Photoshop

I first noticed the problem when I tried to "Edit in Photoshop" from Lightroom 3.0. The photo would never launch in photoshop when I selected this feature. Then I tried exporting photos from Lightroom onto my desktop and opening them in photoshop (which worked), but then when i tried to create a panorama through the Automate feature or do the HDR option, nothing would happen. No error message, no swirling beach ball of death, just nothing.
I have since uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop (CS5) and updated it multiple times, still not working. Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

That sounds like Lightroom has lost track of Photoshop.
Please ask in the Lightroom forum how to get Lightroom working again.
As for the automate features: are you missing any plugins, like Scripting Support?

NVIDIA Graphics card is not found on my U510 ideapad

I bought this specific laptop because it said it came with a NVIDIA GeForce 625M (1GB) graphics card installed. I have downloaded several drivers, and always get the same error. It says that a NVIDIA device cannot be found on my system. I have the U510 IdeaPad. I have gone into the control panel and checked out the display adapters, and nothing shows up for NVIDIA; just Intel (R) HD 4000. I would like to know how to access my NVIDIA graphics card, because as far as gaming goes, I can do next to nothing with the Intel card.

Can you verify that this card was present before,
There are models that does not have the Nvidia on it but Intel HD alone.
You can send me the Serial Number of your computer through private message and let me check your system's Original Configuration.

Windows 8 add features not found

To install Windows media center I need a product key and to add the feature. Finally I've got the key but the search for "add feature" only brings up "Turn windows features on or off". Is there another step that I'm missing?

I am too experiencing this issue. I have typed 'add features' in Settings but I don't see any option to add a feature.
However, I have definitely seen this option before because I remember being asked by some window to enter my Product key to add features.

P.S.: Regarding activation. If you are using Enterprise edition downloaded by your Software Assurance program, the ISO image you are downloading is pre-pidded and already has a MAK key embedded into ISO media. That is, once installed, Windows 8 Enterprise
Edition automatically starts seeking for available MAK activation server in your network area. However, this requires your IT specialists to roll out Windows 8/Windows Server 2012 MAK activation server because Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 are using new
activation that is not supported by MAK activation server software used to activate volume license kits in Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2. Because it's no surprise that your IT did not do that yet, Windows cannot find any activation server. That requires
you to enter key that you get from your MSDN subscriber page.
That's how I understand the issue with the need to use slmgr -ipk <key> and then run slmgr -ato or slui 3 to activate Windows using entered product key.
P.P.S.: As for adding features, that's the whole mystery. I've removed all installed KB patches that I've installed so far, but I can't get the add features option back... ;)

has disappeared!

Some EC-CS features not found in BCS

in EC-CS there are two quite important features which don't see in BCS. They are:
1) Multy-period consolidation (for consolidation several periods at once).
In budget consolidation it's often required to consolidate annual figures in monthly detail. Due to the fact BCS can't process several periods at once, we have to perform consolidation 12 times per budget. Has anybody got experience how to simplify the procedure? I guess multy period consolidation in EC-CS was the standard way to do this.
2) Equity aging report settings in CoI.
In BCS I can't see the way to post to MI items with subitem breakdown, in other words to map CoI activities to movement types (which was possible in EC-CS). This is required for Shareholder's equity report where each equity item (including MI) must be broken down by movement type. What are practical recommendations?

Knowing how sophisticated the stockholders equity report might be in the former SU countries, I see here 2 issues: 1) a construction of the report itself, in general and 2) breaking down the MI.
Issue #1, IMHO, is to be solved by proper combination of items/subitems and movement types. MoveTypes might be assigned/determined in different stages of data flow: in ECC, manually, during data load to/from staging cube, in BCS. Everything is dictated by the complexity of the report and the dataflow features.
Issue #2. Frankly, I do not think that a reclass might help you to get what you need. Probably, sufficient number of subitems in equity and items for counterpart MIs would service better.
And a little advice reg. you BEx query -- it's not necessary to use cell editor. You may use the following trick.
Set several equity items in a column. And one of this items and a specific MoveType in a row (setting up the item is optional). Doing so, you'll get amount of this (row) item accompanied by the determined MoveType on the intersection of a column and a row. Most likely, just in one cell only. It's much easier than using the cell editor.

In internet explorer 7 (win) there is a zoom option in the lower right hand of the screen. It enlargers everything by zooming in, not just text. I works well, and does not break most web sights. You also have the option of enlarging text, which affects text only, but that breaks most web sites.
In safari (mac) there is a small/large A at the top left. It enlarges only the text, not other things like pictures. It breaks most web sites and quickly makes them unreadable. Does apple not have the equivalent of the zoom in/out on Internet Explorer 7?
I am trying to address this: I find most web text (particularly on a high resolution monitor) to small to read comfortably.

Leopard provides a magnification or zoom function using the mouse scroll wheel. It's in Universal Access under Seeing, Zoom, Options. The default is to use the Ctl key with the scroll wheel.

Java 6 pakage names not found running Java 5

I have a JSP trying to use a bean class compiled under Java 6, but running under Java 5. The problem is with the handling of the Java package name. The package is 'com.myCompanyname'. The class should go in 'WEB-INF/classes/com/myCompanyname'. But if I put it there and run the JSP on a Java 5 appserver, I get an error: 'jsp:useBean can't find class com.myCompanyname.myClass'.
In other words, if I want to use a Java 6 feature not found in Java 5, all Java 5 or earlier users of my product will not be able to use the new version of my product. I can't force my customers to upgrade to Java 6 just for my application. Most of you know how hostile customers get when you tell them they have to upgrade their OS, AppServer, JRE, etc. to run a new version of your product.
Any suggestions?

All well and good, but I'll never be able to add any features to my product that require post-Java 5 classes.
Now, I understand that it is sometimes unavoidable to become incompatible between releases. But only for just cause. I don't feel this is just cause. It strikes me as a rather willy-nilly decision to change how package names are handled this far into the Java development process. What could possibly be the advantage of making this change? In fact, I don't even know what change was made, the new release just broke my old classes.

Standard brushes not working in Photoshop or Illustrator

I have a lot of standard brushes that came with the CC brush library that are not working with any of the programs they come with. When I hover over the brushes they say "Type: Sketch Brush This brush format is not supported by Photoshop/Illustrator"
So where can I use these brushes then? I would like to create brushes using the Adobe Brush CC program on my phone/tablet, but I can't use them in my programs. ... What am I doing wrong here?

They are probably brushes from Adobe Brush. You have to target them in Brush to either make them work in AI or Photoshop.

CS6 photoshop message 'could not load the fast core routines module because the file was not found'

my CS6 photoshop is giving me the message 'could not load the fast core routines module because the file was not found'. this started happening after i used a trial of photoshop CC and decided not to stay with it. my photoshop is part of my CS6 suite and i am only getting this message with photoshop, my ilustrator keeps working just fine..... does anyone know how to fix it? thanks.

I did a search on my system and found the Photoshop has a fastcore plug-in. Creative Cloud includes a subscription version of CS6 version 13.1.2. I do not know if you installed that or not. The cc un-install may have done something. You may need to use Adobe Cleaner then Install The Perpetual CS6 version of Photoshop CS6 version 13.0.6 Mac or Photoshop CS6 version 13.0.1.3 PC and not the subscription CS6 extended version 13.1.2. Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 If you need to download the CS6 installer Download CS6 products.
You may also be able to recover your cs6 using an old system backup

Photoshop CS6 updated Raw and now get message saying "Could no complete your request the file was not found." Help

I updated CS6 Camera Raw as it would not read my D7100 raw files. Since that I cannot open jpegs.
Also, I go to Photoshop - About Plug-In - Camera Raw and get a pop up window saying "Could not complete the Camera Raw command because the file was not found."

I apologize, guess I wasn't very good in giving info. It is on a Mac running Snow Leopard. I did the CS6 updates through Help/Updates but that did not update to where my camera (Nikon D7100) raw files could be read. I searched around on Adobe's site for the Camera Raw update that took care of reading them, forget what page I finally found a download link on but the update was a singular installer for Camera Raw. Once updated Photoshop CS6 stopped being able to 'find files' even when the file is dragged onto the Photoshop icon, or through the menu's Open. I have since uninstalled everything reinstalled the suite from the original installer. I know have a Photoshop that will open jpegs but just not my camera's raw files. Thanks for any help that you think might take care of the problem. I am not going to update the Camera Raw unless I can find out what happened and what to do to prevent it. I switched my camera to take jpegs until if and when I solve the mystery. :-) Thanks!
