Coreservicesd eating my RAM

coreservicesd is using roughly 340MB of real memory.I did not expect any issue with mac when work
on it,but this app. or task seriously took my RAM day by day.
Thank you

Please forgive me if my question is unrelated to this thread. I am not a techie, but am trying to figure out why the coreservice folder opened by itself on my iMac, OS 10.5.1 ... and then disappeared. Is the system trying to tell me something? I don't know where this folder is located and it doesn't show up with a Spotlight search. The console is logging THEPROCESS_HAS_FORKED_AND_YOU_CANNOT_USE_THIS_COREFOUNDATION_FUNCTIONALITY_YOU_MUST _EXEC() to debug. Could this be related to the problem being discussed here?
(There are software problems as well, but nothing seems related to the screen saver. But coreservicesd seemed a close match.)

  • Coreservicesd eating up RAM-Memory

    Hello,
our Server (xserve late 2009) 10.8.4 is starting fine, but after some while, the coreservicesd RAM-usage is getting bigger and bigger...
After some Time ist has up to 9GB from 12GB total RAM...
This causes swapping of files and heavy disc-usage..
Our server is 2,26 Quad-Core with 12 GB Ram
Any idea, what can be the reason for it?
    Thanks,
    Fabian

    Hi
If you have it turned on then turn off the screensaver. You should not be running OS X Server with a screensaver set anyway.
    HTH?

  • Final Cut Pro X is eating my RAM.

I'm not sure what is going on here, but Final Cut Pro X totally eats up my 20 Gigs of RAM. The background tasks window shows zero activity, and all I am doing is trying to make cuts to the footage in my timeline. After an hour, the interface is sluggish (to put it mildly) and 4 out of 10 cut actions cause the program to crash.
I even tried opening the program and doing nothing. It STILL eats my RAM up in roughly an hour.
I have opened other projects from Final Cut 7 for some kind of comparison and I have not experience the same issue. Granted they are two completely different programs.
    Any ideas?

Well, my setup works sweetly with 8 GB Ram.
Here I go with the same old boring checklist . . .
If you're getting crashes, autosave problems etc, there is more than likely some conflict on your system drive.
Create a new (admin) user on your Mac system and try FCP X from there.
I did this, and FCP X worked perfectly on the new account, meaning there was definitely a conflict on my existing system.
To be absolutely certain my MacPro's system was squeaky clean, I then did a clean reinstall (not TimeMachine) and FCP X has worked reliably ever since.
FCP X application should be in your Applications folder and ideally, your project and events should all be on an external HD and not on your Mac system drive.
I have over 3700 clips distributed between five events at the moment and FCP X is coping very well most of the time.
It helps to work without the waveforms displayed as these slow things down considerably.
Do you have FC Studio or a version of FCP on the same drive partition as FCP X? This is known to cause problems and not advised by Apple.
I quote from the Apple Support Website (23rd Sept 2011).
"It is strongly recommended that you install Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, and Compressor 4 on a startup disk that does not have Final Cut Studio (2009) already installed. Use Apple's preferred installation procedure when upgrading one version of Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Studio to the next. This procedure is not unique to Final Cut Pro X."
Note that Apple use the word "strongly" - some people prefer to ignore this, and then blame Apple for all the sins on earth.
    I don't.

  • Yosemite is eating more RAM

Hi i upgraded to Yosemite from Mavericks and now i am facing that my mac is eating more ram. please suggest me a solution for this

More RAM would mean that more apps could be open and run more efficiently. Remember, the OS requires a minimum of 1gb of RAM, FCE requires a minimum of 1gb, and then there's all those background processes running that you don't see; each with their own RAM requirements. So if you want to have FCE running along with a few other apps, more RAM would be recommended.
It would also help to keep things running smoothly if a minimum of 10 to 20% free space is maintained on all hard drives.

  • Weirdest Logic behavior (Deleting tracks will eat up RAM)

    Hi,
I've been a Logic 9 user for quite a few years (4-5yrs at the least) and have never experienced anything like this.
I'm currently working on a film project which requires using at least 25-30 Kontakt loaded tracks. My computer,  2.6Ghz i7 16gb Ram running on 10.7.5, has been handling this ram/cpu eating project fairly well for the past few weeks. I've been very careful while working and I'd purge any unused samples loaded on Kontakt. Usually I'd have at least about half of my RAM unused (6-7GB). Even in an intense action scene my computer was rarely frozen.
Now, I'm done with my sequencing and for the past few days I've been spending my days exporting/ bouncing in place my tracks so that I could mix them once they are converted to audio tracks. Once I'm done converting midi to audio tracks I always pack them into the folder and delete the rest of midi tracks.
THE WEIRDEST EVENT OCCURS WHEN I'M DELETING MY TRACKS, LOGIC WILL EAT UP MY RAM LIKE MY SISTER EATING A CHOCOLATE. Deleting a single track would consume AT LEAST 1gb of memory loss. After deleting 5-6 tracks my activity monitor shows that my computer only has about 4-6mb of ram left. By then, my logic session is nearly frozen and I have to run my memory cleaner app to free up my ram space.
This is perhap the most bizzard logic phenomenon that's ever occured and I'm very puzzled at this moment. I guess the best solution at this point for me is to reinstall logic 9 but at least I'd like to hear opnions from Logic gurus out there. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It doesn't jump for me however I'd thought I put my 2 cents in and ask if anyone else gets this behavior:
I'm in a similar situation. I want to 'clean up' the session. I have a bunch of xtra tracks I didn't use or multiple instances of the same track, from 'mute and create new track' feature. As I start to delete the extra tracks, when I get to the 3 - 6th track, Logic will re-initialize the audio core driver. All virtual instruments will 'blank' out, and it will take anywhere from 8 - 20 seconds for Logic to 'boot' them all again. It was acting very bad a month or two ago, it would re-initialize after 3 deletes. Lately, It's more like if I delete 8 or more tracks. (I usually don't have that many to delete) This is not consistant, it DOESN'T always happen.
    Is anyone else experiencing this?

  • Firefox Eating Away RAM on my Leopard Machine

I am not sure if it is the right place to post this. I use Leopard on my 2GHz Macbook with 2GB RAM. Istat dashboard widget always shows that Firefox (v3 beta 5) is eats away all my RAM (between 260-300MB)? Is it some memory leak problem of Firfox or something to do with OSX? Should I not worry considering I have enough RAM? Any solution to give limited food to starving and greedy firefox.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • Premiere CC 2014 eating up RAM

When I work in Premiere CC 2014.1, as was the case in prior versions, it is soaking up my RAM.  Below are screen shots of when I first open Premiere, up to about 10 minutes later, when almost all of my available memory is shown as used (Premiere gets pokey when working in the timeline at that point).  I have no other programs open.
    I'm on a 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon mid 2010 Mac Pro
    32 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB (this card is a recent upgrade...was having the same issue with the previous ATI Radeon)
    OS 10.9.5
    Apple Pro Res 422 media
I have Preferences>Memory set to optimize for Memory and have 28GB available to Premiere.
I'm not using any third party plugins on the timelines I'm working on (nor any effects), though I do have plugins loaded.
I have had this issue when working on my internal Seagate 7200RPM drives as well as my external eSata RAID drives.
Does anyone else have this issue?  Any thoughts as to what might be happening?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    --jon--

My Premiere Pro CC 2014 also freezes when I try to export. I do not get any error messages, it just freezes and I have to restart my computer. The only way I can render is to Queue to Media Encoder CC 2014.
I have tried posting my problem many times but this Community Forums will not accept my post and keeps telling me to 'try again later .m4'.

  • ITunes miniplayer eating up RAM

When I have iTunes playing music in miniplayer mode, it uses up quite a bit more RAM than when it is playing music in full-window / minimized mode; e.g. >3 GB for miniplayer vs ~1.7 GB for full window. I'm surprised to see such a difference in RAM usage, and if anything, I'd have expected the miniplayer to use less RAM than the full window mode, not 2x more.
It's almost as if there's a memory leak in the miniplayer mode.
If I'm in miniplayer mode, and see the RAM usage growing, I just switch to full window mode, minimize that window, and the memory usage decreases significantly almost immediately.
Has anyone else seen this, or does anyone know what may be causing this to happen? I prefer to use the miniplayer whenever I can, but not at the cost of significant additional RAM usage.

A few people have reported this with the 10.6.x iTunes versions.
If you've got what they've been getting, it seems to happen when the main iTunes player is set to Cover Flow rather than List view.
If you set iTunes to List view prior to switching to the Mini Player, does that stop the excessive CPU use while in Mini Player?

  • ML eating up RAM!!!

    Hi,
I use an early 2011 13" MBP with 4Gb RAM and just upgraded to ML a few days ago. The sole reason for upgrading was the AirPlay feature.
Haven't done a "clean install". Downloaded ML from the Mac AppStore and installed it.
Immediately after installing ML, I have been having the major RAM issues. I mostly use the MBP for word processing and Emails.
I have noticed that the RAM usage has increased. Typically only about 1Gb Ram is Free.
Whenever I start the MBP from about half hour of sleep mode, the FREE RAM drops down to 2 to 5 Mb within 5 to 10 minutes, leaving me no option but to reboot, that to by keeping the power button pressed to force shut down!
After rebooting, it works OK with about 1 to 1.5 Gb free till I shut it in sleep mode and restart the MBP, after which the same problems crop up again...
Earlier with the Snow Leopard OS, I used to restart the MBP maybe once in 8-10 days. That too in most cases because the battery had totally died!
Need some help to sort this out immediately...
    Ciao,
    Jesal

I wouldn't even attempt to run Mountain Lion with 2GB of RAM! But what you're seeing is normal. If you want to have more free space, you'll just have to install more RAM. Here's what my RAM configurations looks like right now:
That's 1.12GB 'free' out of 16GB. But I don't worry about it... and it doesn't slow anything down.
If you want to purchase more RAM, I would recommend going to the Crucial website and using their System Scanner app to upload your configuration. Crucial will recommend the upgrade paths.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Mountain Lion EATS-UP RAM and BATTERY!!!

Since I had the BAD idea to install Mountain Lion I have had only trouble.
    1) Given the fact that Safari deosn't start and hangs endlessly, unless I ALWAYS force reload the pages, and given the absence - a REAL LOSS! - of functionalities like RSS which were in Safari 5.1.7 but not in Safari 6, I had to drop it as my favorite browser after MANY YEARS, and pass to Firefox which is FLAWLESS.
    2) Another MAJOR issue that I want to mention is the fact that with M.L. my free Memory at startup, with the same login items, has gone down from an average of 6.9/7 Giga to a 5 Giga or less.
    Even freeing memory doesn't help.
    3) The other problem is a HORRIBLE DOWNGRADE ALSO IN BATTERY LIFE which has STARTED the moment I installed M.L.
Instead of the usual 7-7 1/2 hours, I now get about 3 1/2 hours.
I have done PRAM reset and permission repairs (which, BTW, take EVEN 10 minutes!!!) but to no avail.
And on top of it, EVERYTHING is much slower than with Snow Leopard!
A MAJOR SYSTEM UPDATE IS NEEDED URGENTLY!
This system for now s*u*c*k*s feet fungi! ...And one cannot go back to the previous system!!!

Thank you Thomas. Some common sense, respect and politeness helps.
Unless... I have no right to be upset at a system that was put out and for which I even payed (a first in 25 years for me with Mac) and someone finds "offensive" (who is he, the system's mom or child?) some very harsh (IMHO with reasons) criticism of this system!
To begin with, it would REALLY help if, INSTEAD OF SHOOTING answers  which are NOT answers, one took the time to read the question well and to try and understand if the person who asks is a newbie or not (in my profile there is a 25 years of Mac experience), and may be NOT insisting on the creation of a new user account when a few messages above I had already written that:
"I not only created a brand new user account, I actually ever re-formatted the whole disk and re-installed the system ANEW, one week after the first install and after innumerable problems, and NOTHING CHANGED".
I consider the REPEAT of such a suggestion just disrespectful, since I had written that I had already done all that and more, and I find it also also upsetting, after one week of PURE **** with my computer, something NEVER experienced before.
In the meantime, I disabled the [for me] useless and actually annoying "Notifications" even eliminating it from the toolbar, and free RAM at startup jumped immediately UP about ONE GIGA, back to 5.2 out of 8, and, after using freemory pro (even if it really bugs me to have to do that everytime I startup!) I gain another giga, and I am back to something more normal like 6.2 out of 8.
However, no way for me to have Safari start without forced reloading (while Firefox is flawless) and I also still have the rest of the BUGS, not last of which is with Mail showing the "blocked plug-in" (after  re-installing a brand new FlashPlayer with the new system installation) and not allowing Control-F in address field, which I had done since Mail was invented.
As another person, probably another "idiot" like me who doesn't know that Mountain Lion is perfect and it is all his fault, (I quote him): "I send out 'stuff' to a distribution of people (Bcc, of course) and always take pains to remove the original sender from the list. I then used to put the cursor in the list of distributes, hit Command + A then Command + F and "find" whomever it was I needed to omit. This handy feature is now disabled. Sigh."
I really resent that some people at Apple are so much under windoz influence that they have been eliminating one by one the great characteristics that made Mac a DIFFERENT system, above all a USER FRIENDLY SYSTEM.
Now it is much less so, and on top of it you have Mac users in this forum, who probably started with a PC (which I NEVER touched) who get upset when one points out the flaws in the new creations...
Besides some politeness and empathy, he should learn some English: it is "in the same VEIN", not vain...like his remarks... ;-)

  • Bridge is eating up RAM memory?

When I download images from my DSLR to my Mac, the images are cached by Bridge. As they are cached, I can watch the amount of "Inactive" system memory increase in Mac OS's Activity Monitor utility. If I download 8 GB of images, 8 GB of "Free" memory is assigned to inactive memory.
When I close Bridge this memory does not convert back over to free memory, but remains allocated as inactive. Combined with "wired" and "active" memory, I eventually run low of free memory while running other apps, slowing down my system. As much as 2/3 of my 16 GB total memory can be allocated as inactive. To convert this inactive memory back to free memory, I must restart my Mac. When I launch Bridge and other apps again, inactive memory appears normal in Activity Monitor at around 125 MB, and usually remains under 2 GB depending on what apps and files I work with.
Is this memory usage by Bridge after downloading images normal or do I have a problem? Thanks.

Here are Mac OS Activity Monitor readouts showing what I am experiencing:
    Before downloading images from DSLR:
After downloading images (No other apps open, only Bridge):
After Bridge is CLOSED via menu bar,  Adobe Bridge CS6 > Quit Adobe Bridge CS6:
    After Mac OS is restarted:
My problem is that when I have Photoshop and other apps open after downloading images, "Free" memory can drop to less than 500MB. As you can see above, when Bridge is closed, the "Inactive" memory is still assigned as in use, not "Free."
I have noticed that once Free memory is used up by other apps, then memory appears to be reallocated from Inactive to Active as it's needed. Not sure if this is slowing down my system. Relative to what Chris just wrote above, is this normal? Thanks.

  • Process, SecurityAgent: User, _securityagent ?? Eating up RAM

Hey there. I'm running 10.10.2 with updated server software. I don't run much of anything. I run server for Software updating my home machine, Time Machine server, File Sharing, and netboot/netimage for my small shop.
I also run a Minecraft server, which runs on its own from my main user. That server requires me to run DuckDNS as well.
I have been seeing multiple instances of the SecurityAgent process pop up, and I can't figure out what is causing it. I've read some things that suggest it is a normal OS X process, but I can't imagine this many of them running at once to be normal.
    Any thoughts?

Sorry, I somehow missed that. AFAIK, you can only apply incremental updates while booted on the volume you want to update. Next step is to boot with the install disk and do an Archive & Install installation, saving user and network settings. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120 for details.

  • Using RAM slots 3&4 (vice 1&2) on a Neo2 Platinum

I was having some issues that seemed RAM related so I ran Memtest and it showed one stick with lot of errors, but the other seemed fine.  I only ran it on each stick for a short time because I got 34 errors in 20 seconds on one stick, but the other was error free for about 10 minutes.
I pulled the bad stick (temporarilly running 1x512) and everything was fine for one day, but I just got another memory dump BSOD.  Now this stick shows errors.
I'm curious if maybe Dimm1 on my board could be eating my RAM.  I've already got 2x1GB sticks on the way.  Should I just put them in slots 3&4 and not worry about slot 1, or am I asking for more problems that way?  Also, has anyone heard of Neo2 Platinums's destroying RAM?
    Complete specs in sig.

You can run two dimms in slots 3 & 4 as an alternative to slots 1 & 2 according to Jim Flynn who seems to know what he is talking about here:       https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=88800.0
Do you get errors in MEMTEST with slots 3 & 4?
The errors in memtest require some troubleshooting with the assistance of CPU-Z which will tell us the SPD and actual operating timing values of memory (cas, tras etc) for each slot on the SPD and MEMORY tabs.  What voltage are you using for your dimms?  Are you overclocking?
You might not want to insert your new memory until you figure out what is going on with your slots, as I imagine a faulty slot (and maybe faulty configuration too) could damage memory.
Post CPU-Z and MEMTEST results for slots 3 & 4 and maybe one of the memory gurus here will lend a hand.  I believe errors in tests 5 & 7 are timing errors while the rest are bad ram.
    Good luck.
