Cork board/no faces

I tried to us faces but nothing works. I went to events Dbl clicked a photo, clicked name and no box for facial recognition. In the tutorial I should of had a box and then typed in a name. I had to drag my cursor to the photo before getting a box. After naming a few photo's I went to the cork board and no images appeared. Faces did recognize the same person even after choosing this person several times I was thinking maybe due to a defective HD that I had replaced, maybe when the saved data was replaced into the new HD that something got lost in iPhoto(faces) and now it will not work as it should.I do not use faces often but would like to know why this happened and how to fix it without loosing my photo's. Thanks

My iPhoto is doing the same thing! I have thousands of pictures tagged with names and been using it with no problem for about two years, then one day last week, no people on my cork board, just the "welcome get started" greeting. The individual pictures are still tagged, but there are no pictures on the corkboard. I even tried entring new people but still no luck.
I think that the software still has them becuase on the side menu bar it shows "faces (55)". I am getting ready to upgrade to iLife '11 but would like to get this fixed first so it doesn't carry over.
I have spent hours tagging people! Any ideas?

  • Re-run Faces detection + Cork board not working?

In some of my albums, Faces obviously hasn't properly detected any faces at all. Is there a way to force iPhoto to re-detect Faces again?
Also, I've added around 100 names or so – but still my Cork board looks like this:
    http://i42.tinypic.com/b3q33k.png
I'm running iPhoto '09 with around 35,000 photos.

That won't work for the OP's problem.
Basically, iPhoto does 2 things for Faces. Initially it scans your entire collection for any faces. Some people have reported that trying to mess around with iPhoto during this phase screws up the process. My advice would be to leave it alone.
After the scan FOR faces, you then identify faces and iPhoto will try and help you out with that.
There is currently no option to "re-scan" photos for faces; however, check out this threat at MacRUmors:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=7007848
    face_blob.db
    face.db
These two files hold data for Faces. Read carefully, backup your photo collection, and try at your own risk, but they've been able to get a re-scan using these files. Be warned that any faces data you have currently will be erased. Also, try doing this overnight depending on the collection size you have. A 20GB+ iPhoto Collection should take at least a couple hours if not more.
    Hope this helps, Kalman

  • No faces on the cork Board

After upgrading to the new version of iPhoto. I initially turned off the scan because I didn't have the time to deal with it. Yesterday I went back and started the scan and it ran for 400 minutes but when nit finished there are no photos on the cork board. Is there something else I need to do start using this feature?
    Thanks
    Dan

iPhoto does not identify all the faces and know that there are a certain number of people. It may assume that one face may be person A or it may be person B. It may think that several faces of person A may be different people. This makes it difficult to put the faces on the cork board.
What it has done is identify in the photos what it thinks are faces. Once you start putting names to those faces, especially when you identify several faces as the one person, iPhoto can then start matching more photos to that person.
What would be handy would be a way to see all the photos that iPhoto has identified faces, especially ones where you have not confirmed whose face it is.
The hard part is when iPhoto does not identify a face at all. You have to go through every photo to see if there are unidentified faces and tag the missing faces yourself.

  • Faces on cork board

I have just started using faces and just noticed that the title picture on the cork board of one of my grand children was not a good choice. How do I change the picture in the box on the cork board.

  • IPhoto faces cork board doesn't show faces

I am running iPhoto version 9.6 on my 2009 iMac with OS X Yosemite.  The pictures on my cork board are almost all blank.  If I look at individual pictures they are all properly tagged.  When I run Find Faces the computer seems to see the faces in the blank pictures and asks me to confirm that the blank picture is who it believes it is.  I recently had to have my hard drive replaced by my local Apple store AND they upgraded my OS when they did.  I suspect that the cork board is not finding the correct file but it appears to just be the cork board.  Furthermore, the area to the right of the cork board says 617 faces and 6,853 photos, 21 videos, 12.5 GB so it's referencing something.  When I run Find Faces it will show about half of the pictures and when I tag faces they DO show up in my cork board.  Thank you in advance for any solutions or help you can provide.  I am only reasonably computer proficient so please provide a clear roadmap to the solution if you have one.

That sounds promising.  Where do I find the iPhoto library?
If you only have one iPhoto Library, you can simply launch iPhoto while holding down the options-command keys. Keep holding down both keys until you see the Library First Aid panel.
iPhoto will then repair your current iPhoto Library.
By default you will find your iPhoto Library in your Pictures folder. It will show with an icon like a fan of Pictures.

  • Blank cork board

my faces cork board is suddenly blank. If I click on a blank picture in the cork board it opens a window that shows pictures with faces. How do I get the cork board to show the faces? iPhoto 9.5.1 existing machine OSX 10.9.4

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work

  • New to apple...How can I keep FACES from sending every new face to cork board?

Hi. new to apple. How can I keep 'Faces' from sending every new face to the corkboard? I have all I need for now! thx.

    Welcome to the family!!
By 'every new face' are you implying new ones that you've named, or simply ones that Aperture detects?

  • Faces will not identify any of my photos

I recently installed iLife '09 and have gone through the Faces "Get Started". I have chosen two faces that are fairly common among all of my photos and added 5 for the cork board. Faces has yet to identify any of the others remaining in my library, instead the little wheel just spins and spins.

I am having a similar difficulty. Here are my specifics: I had over 15,000 photos in my iPhoto'08 Library. I upgraded to iPhoto '09. It scanned for hours and came up with over a 100 places. The Faces was 0 as I hadn't identified any of the faces in my photos. I identified about 8 faces. When I double clicked into any of the faces on the cork board, all I saw was the spinning wheel presumably looking for matching Faces. I opened up iPhoto on a few different days and let the spinning wheel go and go. No suggested matches. Today I decided to listen to the introductory video and while it was playing the Face open on the corkboard actually populated the screen with a couple of hundred suggested matches. It was amazing and so accurate. Completely thrilling. I reviewed the suggestions, confirmed most, declined some and left some unconfirmed. (There are many more photos of that Face in my library but it was thrilling to see the ones that it had found.) Clicked "Done" and then went into the Events folder to look at some other photos. When I went back to the same Face, I expected to see the confirmed faces up top and the ones that I had neither confirmed nor declined below the line. The confirmed photos were above but nothing was below the line. I tried another Face and there were no suggested matches. I closed iPhoto and relaunched it. The same situation. I went into the discussions forum, saw Old Toad's suggestion to AltCmdreopen iPhoto to rebuild the database. Did it and all of the faces info was missing. After gnashing my teeth, I went into a photo to identify a face and I was not given a face box/name label on a photo with an obvious face. I added the face, identified it. Did a couple of the same face and went into faces. It immediately said no matches. It was the same face that iPhoto found so many faces for initially. I did the rebuild again and same situation. So there is my long detailed response. I think that iPhoto has potential and can clearly identify faces but something is wrong with it.

  • How can I remove an e-mail address from iphoto 9.5.1

I have one bad e-mail address in Iphoto and it wont let me correct it or enter an alternat e-mail address for that person.
I have erased the offending address from gmail and any other place I could find it but could do it in iphoto.

Where in iPhoto are you seeing an offending email address for a person? Has it been assigned to a face?
Then you need to edit the address in Faces view.  Select the Faces stack on the cork board in Faces view, open the Info panel,  and click into the textfield for the email and edit it. Does that work?

  • All photos disappeared from the corkboard of Iphoto, and when I try to put the new faces there,it does not register anything. The names appear under the photos, but the board remains empty.

All the faces disappeared from the cork board in my Iphoto. When I add a name to a photo it appears there, but nothing appears on the board, there is just the message, how to start.I had alrady lot of faces there and they suddenly all disappeared.I have no idea what to do, or how to start putting up the faces on the board

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Multiple Faces for the same person

I found this unanswered archived post, which is expressing exactly the same problem I'm having...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2099862
When tagging photos there are multiple entries for the same person listed. In particular for three people (my kids) who have a lot of photos for each person. On the Cork board there is only one entry per person, so this is not a multiple face entry there.
I was living with this for a while, but now I have my iPhone and can sync faces photos with it, I can see again there are multiple entries listed for these three people, yet there's nothing I can do in iPhoto to consolidate them.
Has anyone else come across this (like the person in the above thread - which didn't get answered) and found a solution to fix up iPhoto? Clearly it's something odd going on in the Faces database thinking there are different entries tagged, but is still showing them together in the Cork Board.

I would like to know how you got the multiple entries to appear. I'm having the same problem with my daughter. The only issue is, she is two and does not have any address book entries. I think I may have typed her name out several times when adding her name to a face instead of associating the photo with the existing entry. iPhoto recognizes they are the same places in some places, but not in others. I started a new post...

  • Why does a face show up on my iPad when I have deleted it from aperture

I am using aperture to tag a modestly large library (about 22,000 photos) all for personal use. I've been going through these photos and tagging faces. As a sort of "holding pen" for faces that I wasn't sure about in the unnamed faces strip at the bottom of the faces page, I put ?? (i.e., two question marks) as the name for a bunch of photos. Then I went through that face and either put the right name in, when I was able to see the full picture, or deleted the face - i.e., clicked the little x in the upper right hand corner of the box surrounding the face.
Most of the images disappeared just fine, and the "??" face no longer appears on the cork board in my aperture. I can find no evidence anywhere that I can see that the ?? face tag still exists in aperture.
But it must, because when I sync with my ipad, there is a face called ?? and there are pictures in it. When I look at those pictures in aperture on my Mac, I can't find the face - I must have deleted it.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how to stop it?
I have been having trouble with aperture syncing in other ways - I was getting a variety of errors in itunes when syncing the ipad - and so have gone through many steps, including repairing permissions in my aperture database, repairing the database, regenerating previews, turning synchronization off and on, repairing permissions on my hard drive, deleting the preferences (plist) file, and so forth, but even doing a clean installation of the photos onto my ipad (i.e., turning off sync and deleting photos on ipad, then turning it back on and putting the photos back on from aperture after doing all the above steps), I am STILL getting this ?? face.
All help will be gratefully received.

Homesharing has issues that have not been fixed over several versions of itunes and ios.
Only kind of fix is go back through your library and retag it.

  • Can't seen Faces on iPhoto, but can on ATV and iPod Touch!

So, this is very odd. I recently upgraded my Apple TV to the v3.0 software, and synced Faces across. It looks very similar to iPhoto (same cork board, for example), though I don't think the ATV has the actual Faces tech (no focussing on the face during Ken Burns slide shows, for instance).
This inspired me to update my Faces in iPhoto. But, horror of horrors, the Faces feature seemed back at 'Factory Default' -- i.e. 'click here to start adding faces'. I didn't, just in case I wiped the Faces library that is clearly still there (otherwise no sync with my ATV and iPod).
Has anyone any ideas on how to get iPhoto to recognise my Faces library again?
    Cheers,
    Richy

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
I want to be able to name the face, but not have the friend's face show up on my corkboard.
    Not possible I'm afraid.
I can reject the faces that do not belong to my children, but the other children's faces keep popping up all the time,
    Try zooming into the pic.

  • How can I more easily set the Key Photo for a face?

I know I can scrub across the face on the cork board to select, but this is completely unusable if you have more than 20 or 30 photos. By way of example: I have 1,700 photos of a person going back more than ten years. I want to choose a recent photo as the key. The order of the photos when you scrub is totally different than the order when you open the face. I can't right click -> set key photo or Photos -> Set Key Photo when I'm looking at the individual photos of that person.
Is scrub-and-select really the only way to do this? I know iPhoto lets you right-click -> set key photo after opening a specific face.

I'm replying only in case no-one else does.  To the best of my knowledge, as you have found, the only way to select the face shown on the corkboard in Faces view is via the "skim-and-spacebar" method.
(Well, there is a second identical way: click the info button ("i") and skim-and-click.)
There is no parallel in Faces to the "Set key photo" command available for Projects.
Fwiw, the User Manual refers to the Faces key photo as the "Snapshot".
Feedback might be worthwhile:  "Aperture→Provide Aperture Feedback".

  • Faces scan does not return any tags

I have now for about 3rd time scanned my entire library for faces (meaning deleting the face_whatever files over again). Every time the scan is run, it takes about 5 hours (65 GB of pictures).
After the scan is done, there are exactly no face suggestions to be found anywhere on the cork board.
I am getting quite frustrated, Google Picasa never acted this way on my previous computer. I am thinking of going back to Picasa if this issue doesn't get solved soon...

After the scan is done, there are exactly no face suggestions to be found anywhere on the cork board.
1 - have you watched the faces tutorial? -- http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/#faces
2 - the process does not include initial addition of faces on the corkboard - the scan identifies potential people in a photo and you start the corkboard by selecting photos and identifying people in the photo - *those people that you identify are then added to the corkboard* and when you open their corkboard entry you will get suggestions for other photos that contain that person - *you accept or reject each suggestion* and the number of photos grows. Nothing is ever added to the corkboard without your action to approve it.

No problem - do what ever makes you happy - I'm not sure why you think that threatening the users here that you are going to leave makes you feel any better about anything - but what ever
