Corners and edges settings have no effect on Win 8.1 Stream 8

On my Stream 8
PC Settings -- Under PC and devices -- Corner and edges -- Corner navigation, there are on/off settings for upper left and right.
Upper Left (if on) - click, switch between my recent apps
Upper Right (if on) - touch, show the charms
Neither work as advertised.  Tried toggling on and off.  No effect.
Not the end of the world as we know it, but wondered if others have run into this as well and is there a fix.

This was discoverd by someone shortly after the stream 7 release.. many of the edge swipe commands wouldn't work. If you use the selector box on the desktop you will see the digitizer is configured so that no touch is registered from about 3-4 pixles of the outer edge of the screen. This makes it hard to impossible for some edge swipe commands to work. Luckly the main ones work like swiping the right side, but alas a bit of a bad oversight on HPs end.

    I'm using a pc, (windows 8.1,) and I cannot get a thick and thin line with CS6. I want to draw, but I cannot get any linework like I should. I also use Sketchbook Pro, and ToonBoom, and I get wonderful linework. But not with Photoshop.
    None of the brush tool settings have any effect, even in the preview. Is there a setting I need because I'm using a pc and not a mac?

    Thanks for your response,

  • Keyboard Backlight Settings have no effect vaio Control Center

    I have a Sony laptop, model SVE14A35CXH, and my backlit keyboard does work, it's just that the settings in Vaio Control Center, under Keyboard Backlight, the settings for that have no effect on the actual keyboard backlight. I make the setting to never turn on, for both on battery and plugged in, the keyboard still comes on when a key is pressed. I change the setting to turn on in low light, turn off after 60 seconds, it always turns off after 15.  Any time I change the backlight settings, the actual keyboard backlight always turns on in low light conditions, and always turns off after 15 seconds if a key is not pressed. The settings have no effect on what the backlight does. Help would be appreciated.

    Hi Derp-Derpinson,
    Are you using a retail version of Windows? You mentioned before that you did a complete fresh install of Windows 8. Please follow the troubleshooting guidelines below:
    Power Cycle - remove the battery and all peripherals -> press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. This will drain the electricity of the unit. Check again the backlight.
    Reset BIOS.
    Make sure that these drivers are installed or updated: (Sony® Firmware Extension Parser Device Driver, Sony® Shared Library, Hotkey Utilities). You may go to eSupport to download the drivers.
    You may also reinstall Vaio Control Center.
    Hope these work.

  • Compiler warning PLW-05003 parameter at IN and COPY may have side effects

    For the following Procedure:

    PROCEDURE lob_replace

    p_what IN VARCHAR2,
    p_with IN VARCHAR2 )
    AS

    dbms_output.put_line('p_with = ' || p_with);
    n := dbms_lob.instr( p_lob, p_what );
    dbms_output.put_line('n = ' || n);
    IF ( NVL(n,0) > 0 ) THEN
    dbms_lob.copy( p_lob, p_lob, dbms_lob.getlength(p_lob), n+LENGTH(p_with), n+LENGTH(p_what) );
    dbms_lob.write( p_lob, LENGTH(p_with), n, p_with );
    IF ( LENGTH(p_what) > LENGTH(p_with) ) THEN

    END IF;
    END IF;
    END;
    When I compile this, I receive the following warning "Warning(15,5): PLW-05003: same actual parameter(P_LOB and P_LOB) at IN and NOCOPY may have side effect"
    Line 15, column 5 is:
    dbms_lob.copy( p_lob, p_lob, dbms_lob.getlength(p_lob), n+LENGTH(p_with), n+LENGTH(p_what) );
    I'm reading about the NOCOPY Compiler hint at
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/appdev.920/a96624/08_subs.htm#12813 but I'm not for sure what exactly the issue is here?
    The syntax for dbms_lob.copy is:
    DBMS_LOB.COPY (
    dest_lob IN OUT NOCOPY BLOB,
    src_lob IN BLOB,
    amount IN INTEGER,
    dest_offset IN INTEGER := 1,
    src_offset IN INTEGER := 1);
    Do I need to copy the p_lob to another variable, not sure what do here?

    Hi,
    Is this really a stand alone procedure, or is it in fact part of a package?
    That warning usually comes when parameter is declared with NOCOPY in specification but without in body. Or vice versa.
    Could this be the case?

    Peter

  • My hand me down MPC keeps repeating the start up chime and nothing comes on and no buttons have any effect. Any ideas?

    MY "hand me down" Mac Book Pro has decided that it will not boot up. I just get the first chime repeating over and over and none of the keys seem to have any effect at all. I cannot get into safe mode etc. My nearest Apple S tore is about 40 miles away. Any ideas out there?

    Alanmeats,
    Do you know the year of production (e.g., "15-inch Late 2011")?
    Never mind - it looks as if it's a mid-late 15" 2009.
    It's sounds as if your problem is something mechanical - a bad drive, something, that will simply not allow the system to boot. Do you have the discs that originally came with the machine (gray discs)? If so, you can try booting from Disc One and see if you can boot into recovery mode. If not, you'll need to call Apple, with your serial number handy, and purchase a set of the machine-specific discs that came with the system (10.4.9 or 10.4.10 or perhaps even 10.5).
    Then you can see if you've a hardware or system problem.

  • Volume Settings Have No Effect

    Hey Guys~
    Wondering if anyone else has this issue and if so, have you found a work around?
    When I make changes to the volume of a clip on the timeline, that change does not take effect.  The setting stays put, but is not actually applied to the clip.  I want to mute a clip, but even with the volume set to 0%, the volume remains the same.
    Any ideas?  Everything else seems to be working ok.
    Update:
    So I deleted plist for iMovie and the changes I made took effect, but any additional audio changes I made did not take effect.
    Message was edited by: mjcollinge76

    Thanks for the inquiry and feed-back.  Tech support advised me to unlock the preference dialog box when I was logged in as the administrator.  We changed the volume setting to mid-way on the scale and rebooted but the volume preferences reset to minimum volume with Mute ticked.  He also had me try what I assume is a reset of defaults on boot-up.  I held the Command/Option/P keys and operated the power on switch, then immediately held down the R key which put the computer through a different start up sequence.  Once again the volume was muted and indicated minimum when I checked.  No luck either when we created a New User account and set the volume control to mid-way as previously mentioned.  Other approaches he suggested were too involved for me to accurately relate but involved deletion of some files associated with the sound system.  No joy which is why I have sought other advice.  Thanks anyway for your interest!

  • Finder settings have no effect

    Hello all,
    I am very new to Profile Manger so please bear with me. The instatution I work for is getting ready to switch our 150 macs from MCX management to profile based management. I seem to have incountered some strange behaiver when trying to use the "Finder" payload. I want finder to show all connected Hard disks servers, CD's, and external disks so I have checked these options in Profile Manger. When I push the settings to my test machine they do not take effect, after looking at the installed profile I noticed that it does not show any finder payload, however it does show "Restricted Media". After seeing this I went back into Profile Manager and disabled the finder payload, this removed the "Restricted Media" payload from the installed profile. I then decided that I could just use custom settings and try to use the old MCX keys but this also did not work.
    Any ideas?

    Hello lilchub101,
    I am probably not the expert you are waiting for, but I have been working on Profile Manager during the past days, so I can share with you what I have recently learned.
    I did manage to push a "Finder" payload to my test machine. I did this at a user level (meaning that I create. As far as I understand, this is not what you have been trying to do since you settings concern an "IT MacBook Pro". No per say your setting shouldn't work though. And yes, the Media Restrictions correspond to the modifications you are applying to the Finder.
    More details about what I have been doing:
    First experience:
    1. On the Profile Manager web iterface, I clicked on Users, chose a particular user, then Settings and clicked Edit. I Configured a OS X > Finder payload by deselecting all checkboxes of the "Show these items on the desktop" section, except "Hard disks". I clicked on Ok, then Save... and Save again. Since I enabled the "Device Management" option in Server.app for Profile Manager, I then clicked on "General" to make sure that the "Profile Distribution Type" was set to "Manual Download" for this user.
    2. As the user, I connected to myserver/mydevices and downloaded/installed the profile specific for this user (actually, I first downloaded and installed the Trust Profile, but did not enroll the device at this point).
    3. The settings were correctly applied. Just one (nasty) detail: the checkboxes in the Finder settings were not grayed out but, still, the user wasn't allowed to make changes to the Finder settings.
    Second experience:
    1. I removed the profile from the user's device and went back to profile manager
    2. I removed the Finder payload in the user's Settings and chose "Custom Settings".
    3. I uploaded a file named com.apple.finder.plist containing exactly this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
      <dict>
        <key>ShowHardDrivesOnDesktop</key>
        <true/>
        <key>ShowExternalHardDrivesOnDesktop</key>
        <false/>
        <key>ShowRemovableMediaOnDesktop</key>
        <false/>
        <key>ShowMountedServersOnDesktop</key>
        <false/>
      </dict>
    </plist>
    4. Ok, Save, save etc.
    5. On the client side, I downloaded and installed his profile. Note that the profile description is ugly from the user side.
    6. Concerning the checkboxes, the result is the same that in the first experience. Yet, the remaining settings are still editable by the user. The reason is that *all* possible settings are specified when configuring the payload using the Profile Manager gui, whereas only those specified in the pllist file are forced in the second experience.
    That's it! In your case, it might be useful to actually check what profiles are actually present on the client computer. You can use the "profiles" command for that. You can have a look at http://krypted.com/tag/profile-manager/.
    I hope this helps! Good luck.

  • Some Windows 8.1 GPO settings have no effects

    I´m trying to customize Windows 8.1 visual look By setting some GPO:s, and even when I see with resultant, that my settings are inherited, they has still no visual effect. These settings are:
    "Force a specific default lock screen image" - still there is default lock screen, not mine.
    "Prevent the wizard from running." - when new user logs in, the wizard is launched.
    I´m just wonder, is there a known bug why these settings does not work or has no effect?

  • HT2490 my audio volume control defaults to mute whenever I start the computer.  Preference settings have no effect.  Technical support couldn't help.

    Audio preference settings continually default to minimum with Mute ticked whenever I start up.
    Technical support could not help desite 30 minutes or more of trying various approaches.
    The technician "proved" that it is a system issue and not an individual "user" setting that is affecting the computer.
    Any ideas about what is causing the problem and how it might be fixed?

  • Composite Settings Have No Effect?

    The composition settings were working fine until I retimed an animation clip that was set to "Darken".   No, the composite settings don't work on this clip or ANY other clip in my timeline.
    What the heck happened?

    I've figured something out....still struggling to make it look right.
    - Composition Settings do NOT work in a Storyline. It wasn't the retiming that broke it, it was putting it into a story line, which I did to this and other clips in order to be able to put a transition on them.
    - I can't add a transition to the clip unless it is in a Storyline or a Compound clip.
    - Transitions do NOT work in Compound Clips - for the duration of the transition, the clip is solid black, and then suddenly comes on after the transition is over or the transition just has no effect.
    The only solution I can find to this is to add a white fill generator than I can apply a transition to and lay it over the top, but it's not going to look the way I want it to.
    this portion of the video is an off-white background and I am trying to eliminate the pure white background of the animation clip I am using - normal solution is setting composite to darken or multiply. FCPx just added about 15 steps to accomplish this.

  • Post Leopard install, caps and num lock have opposite effect

    Not sure what I did as I was running Leopard just fine on my MB Pro rebooted and found my Num Lock light was on. Turning it off resulted in the keyboard behaving as if it was on. Also when caps lock is on I get lower case, i.e., normal behaviour when Caps lock is off. When caps lock is off I get ALL UPPER CASE AND CANT GET LOWER CASE.
    What did I do? I've checked keyboard settings, but can't seem to find anything that I might have inadvertently done.
    Mark

    Actually this is a new feature of Leopard.
    The developers have been wanting to rewrite some of the conventions that we use when operating computers, such as the much boasted about (and fraudulently claimed that they invented) multi-touch. and so they patented the reversal of these keys for us all to think, wow this is amazing and new! Apple are so cool and hip, nothing like those copycat MS people!!!
    But seriously. Try fixing disk permissions (in disk utility) and also reset the System Management Controller by removing all power and cables into the computer for at least 15 seconds.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446
    Good luck, and if all else fails try doing a clean install. I assume that you only did an upgrade so that u wouldn't have to reload all the data from the computer!?!

  • Firefox won't load, even after reinstalling 9. This suddenly happened last week. it tells me there is an error loading the page. This only happens on this particular computer and no settings have knowingly been changed

    About a week or two ago, Firefox stopped loading. It tells us that the page in unavailable. This only happens on our home computer which is a Dell running Windows XP. I think this happened after we upgraded. Today, I tried reinstalling Firefox and it still tells us that the site is unavailable. (Windows Explorer also tried to block the download). I cannot figure out where to look on the computer for programs that might be blocking access.

    I have decided to dedicate this thread to the wonderful errors of Lion OSX. Each time I find a huge problem with Lion I will make note of it here.
    Today I discovered a new treasure of doggie poop in Lion. No Save As......
    I repeat. No Save As. In text editor I couldn't save the file with a new extension. I finally accomplished this oh so majorly difficult task (because we all know how difficult it should be to save a file with a new extension) by pressing duplicate and then saving a copy of the file with a new extension. Yet then I had to delete the first copy and send it to trash. And of course then I have to secure empty trash because if I have to do this the rest of my mac's life I will be taking up a quarter of percentage of space with duplicate files. So this is the real reason they got rid of Save As: so that it would garble up some extra GB on the ole hard disk.
    So about 20 minutes of my time were wasted while doing my homework and studying for an exam because I had to look up "how to save a file with a new extension in  mac Lion" and then wasted time sitting here and ranting on this forum until someone over at Apple wakes up from their OSX-coma.
    are you freaking kidding me Apple? I mean REALLY?!!!! who the heck designed this?!!! I want to know. I want his or her name and I want to sit down with them and have a long chat. and then I'd probably splash cold water on their face to wake them up.
    I am starting to believe that Apple is Satan.

  • Include Develop settings in metadata have no effect

    Hi.
    I've just discovered that option in the "Catalog Settings -> Include Develop settings in metadata inside JPEG, TIFF and PSD files" have no effect.
    I tested this with JPEG and TIFF inside LR 3.3 RC1, but it looks like this issue is present even in LR 2.x too.
    No matter what you option is, develop settings are always included into the XMP.
    I have exported the same image with this option on and off and they are binary equal except creation date in the XMP.
    Develop settings are always there, no matter what you have selected in options.

    This is sounding like normal behaviour.  It should only apply when writing metadata back to original files.
    The 'include Develop settings in XMP' checkbox dates back to the early days when ACR was just starting to be able to process rendered files.  It was automatically opening any rendered files into the ACR dialog if there were Develop settings found in the metadata.  The checkbox prevented those settings being written to those originals so that you could open directly into PS and bypass the dialog, and additional options have since been added to the Camera Raw preferences in Bridge/PS to allow you to use or ignore those settings too.
    Once the files are being exported, there's a line in the metadata that says <crs:AlreadyApplied>True</crs:AlreadyApplied> which prevents those Develop settings being applied again.
    If you want to exclude Develop settings from exported files, you can either check the 'minimize embedded metadata' checkbox in the Export dialog to remove all metadata, or use Jeffrey's Metadata Wrangler plug-in to specify which metadata to exclude.
