Corporate upgrade path to windows 10?

You should still buy one 10 Pro volume license for the re-imaging rights.  Until someone says otherwise, you would need to install 7/8 Pro, upgrade in-place and accept the new EULA, then you can re-image the device (or just stick with the upgrade).

So about a year ago my company dropped its volume licensing agreement with Microsoft. All of our computers we order come with windows 7 pro pre-installed and licensed for windows 8 pro. However, because we have already over bought on our volume licensing when we ordered, we are still deploying our image with windows 7 Enterprise. We do not have licensing for windows 10 under the now cancelled agreement, only windows 7 & 8.Anyhow, so I can't use the enterprise upgrade path to 10, so I must use windows 7/8 and then upgrade to 10, THEN I can wipe it to do a clean install of windows 10. Is that correct? Can you make an Orchestrator playbook to install windows 7, upgrade to 10, then format and install windows 10 clean? I know that seems like a lot of fuss to just get windows 10, but it would be free as we have already paid for the licenses...

    Hi, if there is anyone of any influence who might read this, please, please, for you own sakes make an upgrade path directly from Windows 8.0 --> Windows 8.1, Update 1
    I cannot upgrade from W8.0 --> 8.1.
    I cannot upgrade due the the following error.  But I believe it is a silly error and can be overcome as some have managed:

    This is an issue I'm having with my personal PC but I also work in IT infrastructure and I think this needs to be sorted. This is going to become a BIG issue for many other people who have Vista/XP-grade systems with the requirements for 8.1.1 who will try
    to upgrade.
    Please can someone help?

  • Upgrade path to 8.1 pro using windows 8 pro keys

    Hi,
    I have a windows 8 pro upgrade license which I bought when windows 8 was launched and have been unable to use it on my existing computer. I would like to use this license on a new computer and want to know what is the correct version of Windows Complete
    Install to buy.
    One option for me is to buy Windows 7 Home complete install then upgrade to Windows 8 Pro and eventually to Windows 8.1 Pro through the windows store. This is too tedious instead can I buy Windows 8.1 Home and use the Windows 8 Pro keys to upgrade it
    to Windows 8.1 Pro directly?
    Please advise on the correct version of complete Windows to be bought so I can take advantage of my Windows 8 Pro license.
    Best regards,
    Jai

    Hi Jai
    I suggest you to follow upgrade path using your Window 8 pro upgrade license since you already bought it
    And I suggest also check whether this PC ready to upgrade to Windows 8.1, you can check using upgrade assistance to check if there is compatibility SW or device before you upgrade
    There is 2 method for upgrade to Windows 8.1
    1. buy upgrade key
    2. buy DVD
    Regarding upgrade key or buy the DVD, I suggest contact retailer or Microsoft sales

    Hi everybody,
    I'm currently upgrading our SCCM infrastructure to SCCM 2012 R2 after have finished with the upgrade from SCCM 2012 RTM to SP1 CU4, thus far everything works fine, but when I try to update any
    of the site servers, whether CAS or Primary, I'm getting the following error message in the Prerequisites Check:
    I've gone through the system requirements and prerequisites over and over again and I can assure you that every possible update, supported OS, feature set, SQL Server, check list, etc,
    etc, have been followed as per the official documentation available, however I'm stuck in this point, and surely enough I haven't been able to find out a similar case.Additionally I'm adding
    the ConfigMgrPrereq log (the relevant portion of it) in case someone could kindly take a look at it.

    I confirm that this one site is a secondary one that's attached to a primary site and this log is from the CAS server, I managed to tall it and delete it from that site, but still appears listed
    on the CAS management console, any idea how to force the removal of a secondary site that's attached to a primary from the CAS site when it has been removed already from said primary?
    I've already tried the
    Preinst /DELSITE XXX  command but it only works when the site to remove it's attached to the local site and certainly not from a CAS
    Finally,  the version, build number and everything is correct, no idea what could be the problem, does anybody know a way to bypass this or force the re-evaluation of this rules, I've got
    the impression that it's being cached somehow.
    Any help would be highly appreciated,
    Thank you.
    Marcelo Estrada MCP-MCTS-MCITP-MCSA-MCSE

    Hello again everybody,
    I've finally managed to fix this up, in the end I had to delete those entries manually from the database as Garry suggested. After this was done the upgrade has gone through as expected with no further ado and has finalized already, now moving on to the
    primary sites.
    If anybody out there is facing the same issue, what I did was to delete those "stubborn" records executing the following statements over the CAS database:
    DELETE
    FROMServerDataWHERESiteCode='XXX'
    DELETE
    FROMSC_SiteDefinitionWHERESiteCode='XXX'
    And this is pretty much about it. I'd recommend to take a proper backup first though as best practice.
    Thank you all anyways for your answers and comments,
    Marcelo Estrada MCP-MCTS-MCITP-MCSA-MCSE

  • Error Message: "This upgrade path is not supported"

    Scenario
    During the process of upgrade to Windows 10 Technical Preview, we may encounter the error “This upgrade path is not supported. Please close Setup and re-launch from the root of the media or go back and pick a different installation
    choice.” in the Compatibility report.
    Analysis
    Step 1: Perform the scenario 1: the upgrade installation fails.
    Reproduce this error following the steps below:
    Download the Windows 10 Technical Preview ISO installation file.
    Extract the ISO installation file to C:\New folder, and now the location of the installation file is
    C:\New folder\9841.0.140912-1613.FBL_RELEASE_CLIENTENTERPRISE_VOL_X64FRE_EN-US\.
    Click setup.exe from the installation file, and then click
    Install now.
    Setup is starting, and then get two options Upgrade and
    Custom which is the classic setup wizard which we can see during booting from DVD.
    Click Upgrade to run upgrade installation, however, the error occurs.
    It seems that it is impossible to perform upgrade installation to Windows 10 Technical Preview, although it is fine to click
    Custom to perform clean installation which cannot keep the personal setting and applications.
    However, what we want is upgrade installation, not clean installation.
    Step 2: Perform the scenario 2: the upgrade installation works fine.
    If extract the ISO installation to C:\New in the above step2, click the
    setup.exe from the installation file C:\New\9841.0.140912-1613.FBL_RELEASE_CLIENTENTERPRISE_VOL_X64FRE_EN-US\, the upgrade installation would work fine, which is as shown the following two figures:
    Step 3: Check the setupact.log
    file which contains information about setup actions during the installation of the two scenarios.
    Scenario 1: Check the setupact.log file of the scenario 1. The detailed information is shown as below:

    Scenario 2: Check the setupact.log file of the scenario 2. The detailed information is shown as below:
    2014-10-14 19:08:04, Info UI Determining whether we should run ConX or legacy setup

    According to the two logs, we can get the following points:
    In scenario 1, it would invoke the SetupPrep.exe in the source folder directly to perform an installation preparation. However, it failed to recognize the path
    C:\New folder\9841.0.140912-1613.FBL_RELEASE_CLIENTENTERPRISE_VOL_X64FRE_EN-US\Sources\SetupPrep.exe. Then it would launch legacy setup.
    In the scenario 2, Windows setup would be redirected to the ConX setup to perform upgrade installation automatically.
    So, what is the difference of the scenario 1 and 2 to bring the different results of upgrade installation?
    Workaround
    Based on lots of testing, we find that if there is no space in the extracting location of the ISO installation
    file, the upgrade installation would work fine.
    What’s more, we can get the meaning of the two setup models in the setupact.log:
    Legacy setup: it is same with setup from DVD boot.
    ConX setup: it would check the compatibility and language UI for upgrade preparation, then perform migration and upgrade directly.

    Hello,
    I would guess that existence of a space in the folder name is what the issue is.  Try removing the space from the folder name and see if works. New_Folder for example

  • Recommended upgrade path for 9.0.2.0.1

    Hi,
    Could you please help me in finding the recommended upgrade path for Oracle Application Server 9.0.2.0.1?
    What would be the sequence of upgrade and can we install in the existing oracle homes?
    The current scenario is given below:
    Host #1 - Infrastructure Installation with OID database (9.0.2.0.1)
    - Seperate portal database with portal schema
    Host #2 - Middle tier installation (9.0.2.0.1)
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sindhiya V.

    If you are upgrading to 10.1.2, the upgrade process is automated and the error reporting is very good (in case you run into any issues). Please check the Upgrade and Compatibility Guide available at
    (For Windows - http://iasdocs/iasdl/1012win_doc/upgrade.1012/upgrade/toc.htm
    (Oracle® Application Server Upgrade and Compatibility Guide 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) for Microsoft Windows )
    and For Unix - http://iasdocs/iasdl/1012sol_doc/upgrade.1012/upgrade/toc.htm).
    (Oracle® Application Server Upgrade and Compatibility Guide 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) for UNIX )

    The upgrade of AS to 10.1.2 has gone through complete QA cycle and is a robust and easy process.
    If you are upgrading to 10.1.3.x, then it's a different process; since there are lots of significant new features in 10.1.3. You will need to install the new Application Server and deploy your application.
    Note, for database access, Oralce has re-implemented the dataso urce in 10.1.3.x releases. so for the config file data-sources.xml, it's automatically converted to the new format file underneath. So your existing data-sources.xml should work. But you could use admin.jar command to convert the file manually as well. please check service guide data source chapter.

  • Upgrade path for Cisco Secure ACS 4.X Solution Engine 1113 Appliance.

    Hello,
    I am having Cisco Secure ACS 4.X Solution Engine 1113 Appliance, and is running on version Cisco Secure ACS Release 4.1(1) Build 23 and now want to upgarde it to the latest version. Need to know the upgrade path for the same. As per my information ACS 4.1(1) runs on windows server and releases post to 5.X uses Linux. Please guide how can i upgrade Appliance 1113 from 4.1 to 5.x

    Hi,
    Cisco ACS 1113 appliance doesn't support ACS 5.x version. 1113 appliance supports till ACS 4.2.1 version.
    Cisco ACS SE 1120/1121 appliance models are required for ACS 5.x
    The upgrade path for ACS 4.1 to 4.2.1 version can be found in the following link :

  • NW 7.01 on Oracle 10.2.0.4 - Upgrade Path to NW 7.4 on Oracle 11.2

    Hi all
    One of our clients has a 2-system-BW-landscape (2 physical hosts) based on the following versions:
    * Windows 2008 R2 SP1
    * Oracle 10.2.0.4.0
    * Oracle Client 10.2.0.4.0
    * NetWeaver 7.01 SP7
    * SAP Kernel 7.01 Patch 94 64bit UC
    As you can see 60% of the setup is no longer in maintenance. The client does not have sufficient hardware ressources for a third physical host.
    I wonder what is the best approach (upgrade path) to update to
    * Oracle 11.2.0.4
    * NetWeaver 7.4
    * Kernel 7.41
    * Oracle Client 11.2.0.4
    My inital thoughts:
    Upgrade Kernel from 7.01 64bit UC to 7.20 (non-EXT) 64bit UC
    Upgrade Oracle InstantClient from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.4
    Upgrade Oracle from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.4
    Upgrade NetWeaver to 7.4
    I know there are a whole lot of SAP Notes about these topics, but maybe one can already suggest a way to go.
    What do you think?
    BR Michael

    Hi Michael,
    These sequence of steps which you described looks good.
    Upgrade Kernel from 7.01 64bit UC to 7.20 (non-EXT) 64bit UC
    Upgrade Oracle InstantClient from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.4
    Upgrade Oracle from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.4
    Upgrade NetWeaver to 7.4
    Steps 2+3 can be combined together and you will be left with only 3 steps.

  • Ciscoworks 3.2.1 Upgrade Path

    We have Ciscoworks 3.2.1 (Windows Server).  We also currently have Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 (appliance) for wireless management.
    I'm getting a bit confused trying to determine the appropriate upgrade path for the LMS server.  I'm wondering if I should be upgrading the existing server to Prime Infrastructure 1.2 which will run on the windows server or migrate the wired management to the Prime Infrastructure 1.2 appliance?  I like the idea of one management portal for both wired and wireless networks.  Does Cisco take a module based approach to the licensing of the Prime Infrastructure products?  In other words, do I need to simply buy the "LMS module" for use on the existing appliance?  The Windows Server has dated hardware so I would also need to confirm that it supports the upgrade if that is the recommended path.
    I'd like to hear what others have done that have made the switch to Prime Infrastructure from LMS.

    LMS and Cisco PI are intended to merge in coming period, but in Cisco PI it almost run a parallel to LMS and is not the complete replacement of LMS.
    Every new release comes out with more LMS featured baked inside Cisco PI. Hence I recommend you to keep your LMS for LAN Management tasks.
    Cisco PI is an complete and evolved upgrade to WCS/NCS. You can upgrade the following Cisco Prime Network Control System products to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2:
    •Cisco Prime Network Control System 1.0.0 (NCS 1.0 MR2, 1.0.2.29)
    •Cisco Prime Network Control System 1.1.0 (NCS 1.1 FCS, 1.1.0.58)
    •Cisco Prime Network Control System 1.1.1 (NCS 1.1 K MR1, 1.1.1.24)
    On Server side, I think CPI can't be installed on LMS Windows server as it has to have a virtulized environment. You should keep and treat both separately. However, if you have got the LMS 4.2 license with CPI , you should upgrade your LMS to version 4.2 and get CPI to manage wireless infrastructure.

  • Need an upgrade path from Adobe Photoshop Elements v1.0

    I have a customer who has somehow made Adobe Elements 1.0 continue to work for all these years.  Is there an upgrade path to get her to the latest version?
    Thanks

    If it is photoshop elements 1, there is no database (catalog) to backup, since pse 1 did not have an organizer.
    The organizer started with photoshop elements 3 on windows and photoshop elements 9 on macs.
    Just verify that in fact it is photoshop elements 1 by going to Help>About Photoshop Elements
    This what the splash screen should look like when you do that

  • Standard Upgrade Path from VMWare Server?

    I've been using VMWare Server for years to test my software. Specifically I have 2 "beige box" PCs running CentOS running VMWare Server running various versions of Windows Server as domain controllers and file servers as well as numerous workstations. I have a complete mini multi-domain Windows network. When I run the tests for my software it really pushes the 2-3 vms involved with a lot of network communication and some disk activity.
    With care and some brute force this has worked well. At least I don't need a stack of PCs. And it's free so it's hard to complain. But unfortunately it's not terribly reliable. The web interface stops working - sometimes only after a day. Clocks drift causing authentication issues. Generally bad things happen if I try to run more than 2 images on the same server. I've gotten to be pretty good at combating these problems but I'm hoping to find something a little more reliable.
    So now I'm willing to actually pay for something (gah!) and I would like to upgrade. But VMWare has so many products I just have no idea what I should be looking for.
    What is the standard upgrade path from VMWare Server?
    Mike

    Ok. Two people say use ESXi so I guess I'll just try to burn an ESXi DVD and see what it's like. But ...
    Is performance really good enough to compile large projects and do backups over and so on?
    VMware Server has worked well enough for me over the years but performance was not like real hardware. But the real problem was reliability. If I ran more than 2 VMs at a time, eventually they would just get their tentacles in a tangle and I would have to kill them and delete lock files and bah! I'm going to assume by your endorsement that ESXi doesn't have any of these problems.
    Also, the machine I'm using is a lowly DELL i660 i3-3240 with 8GB of memory. I paid $429 USD for it at a local consumer electronics store! This is no server. Will it even work?

    I am trying to upgrade EPM 8.9(8.49.23) to EPM 9.1 (8.53.08). During dataconversion step the AE process finished succssfully in few seconds. When i see the log it says "There are no conversions to run for upgrade path PF89 (18028,10003)". Please let me know why it didnt do any conversion. Am i missing something?

    yes, that app engine didnt inserted any rows. So now when i tried to drill down i found that there was no data in the "new demo" database on table UPG_DATACONV. That is the reason for all this.
    When i applied required for upgrade patch in demo it said couple of patch already exists so those update i skipped. Now when i check upd877654 has a step which imports the data in this table. my change assistant told that the update is already available in my demo so i skipped. Now i am not sure what to do.
    I tried reimporting the data and running the analyzer again. But worried that there can be any issues due to this.

    Windows 8.1 upgrade suggestions:
    There are some important steps to take prior to doing the upgrade.  Review this MS posted document. Be sure to run the upgrade assistant.
    Be sure that Windows 8 has all of the latest MS updates installed. There are prerequisite patches that are required.
    Be sure that you have at least 40 GB of hard disk free space.
    Back up your data to external media.
    Make a Windows 8 recovery media to external media before doing the upgrade.  I prefer to use a third party hard drive imaging program.
    Temporarily disable the antivirus software.
    You will need to reinstall your programs after the upgrade so make note of which ones are required.
    Check the HP Support site for Window 8.1 updates for your particular PC.  If you don't see any updates then your PC has not been tested/certified with Windows 8.1.

    I've been running 64-bit Windows 8 Consumer Preview very nicely for several months and want to upgrade to 64-bit Windows Pro on my Pavilion a1440n. When I've tried to install from within the OS I get weird messages indicating that it can't be installed on a USB Flash drive (which I'm not trying to do). When I tried doing a clean install I got an odd message saying that certain installer files were missing and it would not complete. I called Microsoft customer support and the agent there thought my cpu would work because it wouldn't support Hyper-V, even though I understand that it optional. From running coreinfo.exe I can see that I have the PAE, NX, and SSE2 on the cpu enabled as meets requirements.
    When I ran through th HP site I saw that this machine has not been tested. Is there any way of getting confirmation that Windows 8 Pro 64-bit will or won't run on my machine? The HP Product code for it is ER904AA#ABA.
    Thanks!
